Former Cricketer Basit Ali has compared Rishabh Pant to Virender Sehwag after the wicket-keeper batter smashed a century in the second innings of the first test of the Bangladesh tour of India 2024.
After returning to cricket action from a car accident, Rishabh Pant showcased aggressive play forging a 167-run partnership with Shubman Gill, he scored 109 runs with 13 fours and 04 sixes before being dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
Basit praised Pant and compared his attack style to legendary opener Sehwag. During the first innings, he scored 39 runs in the opening test against Bangladesh. He drew parallels between Pant and Sehwag after witnessing the Southpaw’s attack against Bangladesh, highlighting that both players employed aggressive play as their primary defense in Test cricket.

“India has had two aggressive batters. The first was Virender Sehwag, who defended by attacking, often going for a boundary on the first ball. The second is Rishabh Pant, whose approach is similar. He plays attacking cricket exceptionally well, as seen against Bangladesh. He’s truly won hearts,” said Basit Ali on his YouTube channel.
With a partnership from Shubman Gill, India set a target of formidable target of 515 runs. When Pant completed his century, Virat Kohli stood and applauded his remarkable achievement.

India set a massive target of 515 against Bangladesh and the visitors responded well with a solid start in the second innings. By the end of day 03, Bangladesh scored 158 runs losing four wickets at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
