Former Indian Women’s captain Anjum Chopra wants the senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to represent India in the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.

Anjum backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and suggests that the duo’s presence is enough for the upcoming Men’s World Cup 2024 which is co-hosted by USA and West Indies.
Previously, BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rohit will be leading India for the marquee event, while Virat Kohli’s selection for the squad remains uncertain. However, the duo’s selection of the team will depend on their performance in IPL 2024.
While Speaking to the media, Anjum said the presence of this combo would be enough for the side to have a successful World Cup campaign and also recalled that it could be the last World Cup for them.
“When you have quality players like Rohit and Virat, you just can’t question their ability and utilization. Their presence is enough to boost the team’s confidence. They are accomplished players. They are world-beaters. India will require Virat and Rohit,” she said.
She went on to prefer Rinku Singh as the key player for India in the T20 World Cup and said Yashasvi Jaiswal will be playing an important role in the tournament.
Rinku and Jaiswal were impressive in the IPL 2023 where Rinku Singh scored 474 runs with an average of 59.25. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal amassed 625 runs, averaging 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61.
“Rinku Singh. The way he is performing and looking good. We have to see how much he can sustain, the day he sees or faces any failure, and how he comes back. He is going to stay and be around the team and system. He is the one player the entire country looks up to,” said Chopra.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is another name. Coming from an Under-19 setup, then IPL and now he is just amazing for the Indian senior team,” Chopra added.
India suffered a defeat in the ODI World Cup finals last November and will be looking forward to lifting the cup in the upcoming tournament.
India will be playing their first match of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 schedule against Ireland on June 05 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
