Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the ongoing test against Australia in Galle after testing positive for COVID19.

Mathews’s COVID result came after the second day of the first Test. Sri Lanka Cricket named Oshada Fernando as the replacement player for Angelo Mathews.
A Sri Lanka Cricket statement confirmed the news, “He (Angelo Mathews ) was found to be positive during a Rapid Anti-Gen Test Conducted on the player. The test was done, as the player was feeling unwell. He has been isolated from the rest of the team members and is following covid-19 protocols.”
Mathews will be in isolation for five days. In the first test of 2 match series, Sri Lanka won the toss and opt to bat first, and scored 212 runs for 10 wickets loss while Australia scored 321 runs for 10 wickets loss.
Sri Lanka Cricket in their official Twitter handle writes: “Angelo Mathews tested positive for Covid-19. He was found to be positive during a Rapid Anti-Gen Test Conducted on the player.

The hosts began their second innings 109 runs behind Australia. Australia leads the WTC points table with 6 victories while Sri Lanka holds 6th position on the table.
