Angelo Mathews smashed his 16th Test century during the match against Afghanistan. Having scored three ODI centuries, he had his first Test century on the home tour. He smashed 100 runs on 185 deliveries on seven fours and 3 sixes.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl. Sri Lanka had a positive game in the match where they contained Afghanistan to set up a high score.
Afghanistan scored 198 runs in the first innings of the Test. Vishwa Fernando bagged four wickets while Asitha Fernando and Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed three batters each.
Rahmat scored 91 runs on 139 deliveries which includes 13 fours. He missed his century when Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed him in the 46th over. Noor Ali Zadran was the second-highest scorer for Afghanistan with 31 runs.
Sri Lanka scored 80 runs by the end of day 01 with no loss of wickets. While resuming the match, Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka started their match on 42 and 36 runs respectively.
On this occasion, Dimuth completed his half-century while Madushka was caught at leg slip by Noor Ali Zadran on Naveed Zadran’s over.
Kusal Mendis was caught out on a deep square leg from a bouncer by seamer Nijat Masood. Dimuth scored 77 runs on 72 deliveries which includes 12 boundaries.
He was caught out by Ibrahim Zadran during the over of spin bowler Qais Ahmed. Afghanistan has bagged three important dismissals to contain the Sri Lankan side.
Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimai had a partnership of 150+ scores after the dismissal of the top-order batters. However, Sri Lanka aims for a higher total by the end of day 02.
