Andre Russell will be missing the remaining matches of the T20I series of England’s tour of West Indies 2024 due to a left ankle sprain and has been replaced by Shamar Springer.
It’s worth mentioning that injuries have frequently marred Russell’s career. The all-rounder has missed out on several key assignments due to fitness issues.
Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph received a two-match suspension after expressing frustration with the field placements during the 3rd ODI against England, storming off the field in protest and leaving West Indies with only 10 players on the field for a while. He later provided a public apology and also reconciled with Shai Hope.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy said, “Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field. We will be friends… but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable.”
Miles Bascombe, Cricket West Indies director of cricket said: “Alzarri’s behaviour did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged.”
The right arm pacer replaces shamar Joseph who went wicketless and conceded 45 runs in the three over spell in the first T20I at Kensington Oval.
England won the first two T20Is in Barbados and have left West Indies with a must win situation for the remaining three matches.
The third match of the T20I series will be played on November 15 at Beausejour Stadium which will also host the last two matches on November 16 and 17.
