Virat Kohli meets MS Dhoni
Virat Kohli was delighted after meeting MS Dhoni before the IPL 2024 first match between RCB and CSK on Friday. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have been played together since Virat’s debut in 2008.
Kohli started his career under the captaincy of a Jharkhand-based cricketer. Over the years, Kohli developed immense respect for Dhoni as he guided him to grow as a batter and captain.
After the meeting, the 35-year-old Kohli was seen excited about playing in front of the fans at the Chepauk.
“Playing against Chennai is obviously always a special occasion, a big game, and the southern derby as they call it,” Kohli told RCB Bold Diaries before the opening game.
“It’s nice to play in front of very passionate Chennai fans. And good to catch up with MS, it’s been a while,” he added.
Kohli took over Dhoni as India’s test captain in 2014 during the tour of Australia. Dhoni passed the captaincy of ODI and T20I format during the year 2017. After India lost the semi-final match in the World Cup 2019, Dhoni retired from international cricket.
Recently, MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of the Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2024 and Ruturaj was named as the CSK’s captain.
MS Dhoni has handed over Chennai Super Kings’ captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the start of TATA IPL 2024,” CSK wrote in a statement.
“Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019 and has played 52 matches in IPL during this period. The team looks forward to the upcoming season,” the statement added.
Dhoni had led the side to five titles in IPL and led 2 times to Champion League T20 titles. Ravindra Jadeja replaced Dhoni as the CSK skipper, but the latter returned as captain when the team struggled at the beginning.
Coming to the tournament, the first match is set to kickstart at 08:00 PM IST right after the opening ceremony at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
