America Premier League launched in New York; Inaugural edition to take place in Texas

After the announcement of return of the sport cricket in LA Olympics after 128 years, the inaugural edition of the American Premier League is Launched in New York and set to take place in the United States.

The International Cricket Council and USA cricket had approved a new tournament and it is said to be played in T20 format. The inaugural edition is set to be hosted at Moosa Cricket Stadium in Texas.

The tournament will be played amongst seven teams named as Premium Indians, Premium Paks, Premium Aussies, Premium Afghans, Premium Windies, Premium Americans and Premium Canadians.

The ICC and USA cricket have decided to organize the event between December 19 and 31, 2023.

“American Premier League will prove to be a milestone in USA cricket, where opportunity meets talent,” said Mr. Jay Mir, founder of the league. “There are over forty international cricketers participating in the league.”

Former ICC Media manager Lara Richards said: “America is a new hotspot in world cricket, and we are very excited to be associated with American Premier League.”

The USA local players will have great opportunities in the league. The international cricketers also set to take part in the league which could upgrade America cricket to next level.

The tournament will be broadcasted through Television & OTT platforms in India, Australia, USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Caribbean & MENA countries. Marron media holds the exclusive rights of American premier league.

The league will be a step to increase the popularity of the sport in USA. The recently played MLC 2023 had a great response and with the include of the sport in Olympics, it will be great opportunity for sport to get familiar in America.

Recently, the cricket sport have been added to the Olympics which is scheduled to begin on 2028 at Los Angeles.

The international multi-sport is scheduled to take place from July 14 to 30 in Los Angeles, California. The ICC has confirmed that Cricket is set to return for Olympics. The sport is said to be played only once in the Olympics in 1900 in Paris.

The Olympic berth represents the achievement of the ICC which has been working for the game to be included in the Olympics for the past few years.

The development of the proposal is online and was submitted by the LA28 and Paralympic Games, which includes T20 format along with the games baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash to the IOC (International Olympic Committee for the potential inclusion of the game in the upcoming Olympic games in 2028.

The format is expected to be approved during the IOC session in India, during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next week.

The reports from the ICC said that it was a two-year process to add the sport to the upcoming Olympics which will be taking place in Los Angeles.

“The International Cricket Council (ICC) is delighted at the decision of the organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics to recommend cricket for inclusion at the Games. “After a two-year process, in which the ICC worked closely with LA28, the list of sports to be added in LA included cricket, which will now be put forward for approval to the IOC,” said the ICC in a statement.
