India has won all four matches they have played in the ICC World Cup 2023 and stands second with New Zealand topping the list with a net run rate.

With India scheduled to play their next match against New Zealand, the all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to miss the upcoming game and will be joining the side for the match against England.

BCCI gave an update on the player saying. “Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised to rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20th October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India plays England,” in a release.

The incident happened during the  9th over by Hardik Pandya. During the 3rd ball of the over, Litton Das played a straight drive where the Indian all-rounder tried to stop the ball with his right leg and slipped in the process.

He got injured in his leg and Physio came out to have a look. He was taped to his ankle and stood up. When he realized he couldn’t run properly, he walked out of the field and the remaining over was thrown by Virat Kohli.

He was rushed to the NCA in Bengaluru and was treated by specialist doctors from England. The BCCI mentioned that he would receive some injections and be given a 7-day break.

“He pulled up a bit sore,” Rohit Sharma said after the game against Bangladesh. “There’s no major damage. That is good for us. But honestly, with an injury like that, you’ve got to assess every day. So we just hope that he pulls up well tomorrow morning. And then we will assess, whatever is required for us to do as a team, we’ll do that,” he concluded.

With Hardik injured, the Indian side could lose the balance in the line-up. India will have only two options to fill the place. Suryakumar Yadav has more favor to fill in the squad as he proved his performance through his bat in the ODI series against Australia last month.

India has to pick between Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami. Considering the performance and seaming conditions in the Dharmsala, Mohammed Shami will be the choice for the fill-up in the squad.

India will be facing New Zealand on October 22 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.
