“Sam Didn’t Take it to Heart” Alex Carey Opens on Kohli-Konstas Should Bump Incident

Australia Wk-batter Alex Carey has talked about the on-field altercation between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the fourth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

He said that the youngster did not take the issue seriously. Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas have bumped their shoulders during the first innings of the Melbourne test. Following the incident, Virat Kohli was fined 20% of the match fee as he agreed to the offence charged by the match referee.

The incident occured after the 10th over of the morning when Kohli and Konstas bumped shoulders while moving across the pitch once the over ended.

Both players looked back for a death stare and exchanged words before Konstas’ partner Usman Khawaja came in between, although the verbal dual didn’t last long.

Alex Carey talked about the battle saying that the both the players shook hands and added that the young batter didn’t take anything to heart.

“Not that I’m aware of. I think I saw a photo of them shaking hands and a little tap on the back. Oh, it’s Test Cricket. Yeah, I’m not 100% sure. But Sam didn’t take it to heart.”

Carey also lauded Sam Konstas for his batting at MCG smashing fifty in his debut. “Yeah, I was a spectator that first session and I probably had the emotions, the 90-odd thousand that were there. At times, I couldn’t watch it; at times, I was cheering, but just the energy he brought, it was something different.”

“I probably wasn’t expecting that amount of difference, but he played a style of cricket that, yeah, was probably new to India as well,” said Alex Carey.

“We’ll wait and see how he plays out here (SCG). I don’t think that’s his blueprint every Test match, but to be able to throw a few punches early and get a bit of momentum for us, the opening partnership was probably just lacking that intensity.”

Australia secured a unassisable 2-1 lead in the BGT with an 184-run victory in the fourth test at Melbour after the third match resulted in a draw. The final match of the five match series will begin on January 03 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
