According to reports, Pacers Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj are set to miss the upcoming T20I series in England’s tour of India which is scheduled to begin in the second half of January.
Bumrah suffered back spams during the final test in Sydney, and could only bowl eight overs. He has been ruled out of India’s upcoming T20I and ODI series against England, a crucial preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Siraj who bowled 150 overs in the Border Gavaskar Trophy is being rested for the England T20I series to manage his workload.
Meanwhile Akash Deep will be missing the tour after sustaining a back injury ahead of the Sydney Test. Akash who is yet to make his white-ball debut has caught the attention of the selectors with his impressive performance in red-ball cricket.
However, his injury has ruled him out of the England series. Both Akash Deep and Bumrah are set to report to the National Cricket Academy for rehabilitation.
With just over a month left for the ICC Champions Trophy, BCCI will make sure all their star bowlers are available for selection in the right shape.
Bumrah has a huge medical history of injuries and had missed a lot of major tournaments in the past, and now cannot afford to miss another one.
As per the reports, Bumrah will be selected for the squad but if the injury is grave, he will sit out for the entire group stages and is expected to be fit for the knockout stages.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami has recovered and is most likely to get the NOC for the Champions Trophy. Shami has been sidelined since the ODI World Cup 2023 due to injury and has recently returned to competitive cricket and has performed well for Bengal in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The selection committee is expected to attend Bengal’s matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout round to closely monitor how Shami performs.
