“Probably Not Going to Play” Adam Zampa Gives up Test Cricket to Focus on his 100th ODI

Adam Zampa has accepted his thin chances on Ashes and prepares for his 100th ODI match. The leg-spinner Adam Zampa is set to achieve this feat during the first ODI match of the Australia tour of England 2024.

Zampa has understood that his chances of playing in the Ashes are slim and plans to focus on his 100th ODI appearance.

Zampa played a crucial role in Australia’s win in the 2023 World Cup and is set to reach his 100th ODI cap during the first match against England at Trent Bridge. He is yet to make his test debut and admits that the chances are very low.

“Realistically, I’m probably not going to play in an Ashes in my career,” Zampa said at Trent Bridge ahead of Thursday’s clash. I’m OK with that. We have lots of Test cricket, and there’s still a bit of drive to play, but playing in an Ashes, especially against England in England or Australia, doesn’t seem to be on the cards.”

The Aussies’s test side depends on Nathan Lyon as the key spinner in red-ball cricket. With emerging talents like Todd Murphy and Mitchell Swepson also in the mix, Zampa’s chances have been limited. But he still remains regular with his white-ball career and the rivalry he enjoys with England in limited formats.

“I think rivalry in any sport gives depth to the games,” Zampa noted. “The Ashes has its own charm, but playing against England in any format is special. It’s a great rivalry, and it’s always a battle we look forward to.”

“I never thought I’d play this many matches for Australia,” he said. “It’s an incredible honor to represent your country, and to be doing it for the 100th time is special. Having my family here with me — my wife, son, and parents — will make it an even more memorable occasion.”

With the T20I series between England and Australia ended in a tie, the first match of the ODI series will be played on September 19 at Trent Bridge.
