ACC Announces Reserve Day for IND-PAK Clash in Asia Cup 2023

The highly anticipated IND-PAK clash is scheduled to be played on September 10. With the reports from the weather sources confirming rain threat during the match day, the ACC announced a reserve day on September 11.

If the weather affects the game on Sunday, it will continue on Monday from where it stopped. Considering its high anticipation only this match in the Super Four has a reserve day. The finals will also have a reserve day in case of rain.

The rain forced the IND-PAK match to end with no result in the group stage match on the continental event. Again rain interrupted the IND-NEP clash which was then decided by the DLS method where India India won the game and qualified for the Super Fours.

The Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusinghe was not happy about the announcement of reserve day saying the rules of the tournament should not be changed in the middle.

“I haven’t seen this kind of thing in another tournament, this changing rules in the middle of the tournament,” he said at a press conference.

“I am sure there is a technical committee that has representations from every participating country. They must have decided for some other reason. Yes, it is not ideal. We would love to have an extra day also. Other than that, I don’t have much to comment because they have made a decision.

“Once you have made a decision, we don’t have much say. If we were consulted before, we would have a comment. Since it is already made, I don’t have any concerns. We just get on with what we are asked to do.” He concluded.

On this occasion, Jasprit Bumrah has joined the side for the practice session on Friday evening at R. Premadasa Stadium. He has returned to the side after his absence in the match against Nepal due to the birth of his first child.

His arrival has coincided with the ACC announcement for reserve day. Fortunately, there has been no rain in Colombo since morning, which raised hopes for the practice session.

If the weather cleared up during the match day, Bumrah could return to the action in a high-intensity match after his return from injury. He didn’t get a chance to bowl in the group stage match against Pakistan due to the intervention of rain.

The final match of the Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium. If the finals get interrupted by rain, the match will be continued on September 18.
