Despite being no official announcement from BCCI, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are set to join as the coaching staff who were retained from the previous staff under Rahul Dravid.

Nayar and Doeschate have been appointed as the assistant coaches while the appointment of the new bowling coach remains uncertain, However, Morne Morkel proves to be a strong contender with a high chance to take on the role in Gambhir’s coaching team. Recently, Gautam Gambhir has revealed his desire for Morne Morkel to be part of India’s coaching staff.

All Nayar, Doeschate, and Morkel have previously worked with Gambhir on various occasions in his coaching career in the IPL. Nayar and Doeschate were part of the KKR coaching staff which led the side to the third title in the IPL 2024. Morkel has also worked with Gambhir at Lucknow Super Giants for two years.

T Dilip and Abhishek Nayar will be travelling with the India squad who are set to feature in the Sri Lanka tour. But it is unclear whether Doeschate will link up with the side or not.

He is currently part of the US coaching staff for the LA Knight Riders in the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC). He may join the team directly in Colombo while there is no clarity in Morkel’s plans.

The Indian team will depart from Mumbai to Colombo on a private flight at 01:00 PM on Monday. It is expected that BCCI will formally unveil the completed list of India’s coaching staff.

With a media conference planned for July 22 at a five-star hotel in Andheri, the newly appointed T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will address the team. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has already traveled to Colombo for the ICC Annual meet and will meet team India in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka tour will begin with the T20I leg starting on July 21 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
