The 28-year-old Abhimanyu who has been playing in the domestic circuit, has been named the replacement for Indian star Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The Men in Blues is scheduled to play in a three-match ODIs and T20Is series and a two-match test series in India’s South Africa tour 2023. The T20I series ended in a draw and the ODI series concluded with the victory of India 2-1.

The Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained an injury in his right ring finger during the second ODI against South Africa on December 19. He underwent scans and confirmed that he’ll receive his treatment further treatment.

On this occasion, BCCI has officially confirmed the replacement of the player. “Mr Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an injury to his right ring finger while fielding in the second ODI against South Africa in Gqeberha.”

“He underwent scans, and following an expert consultation, the BCCI Medical Team has ruled him out of the remainder of the tour. He will be reporting to the NCA for further management of his injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Abhimanyu Easwaran as his replacement,” said BCCI.

Abhimanyu Easwaran had an impressive run in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy where he amassed 272 runs in four innings with a strike rate of 91.28 and an average of 90.67.

On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav sustained an ankle injury during the third T20I match on India’s South Africa tour in 2023. He went for scans last week on his return to India from South Africa which revealed he suffered a Grade-II tear in his ankle.

Suryakumar has been India’s stand-in captain for their recently concluded T20I series against Australia and South Africa. With the ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to begin in June, the player’s injury will be a major setback for the men in blues.

The injury occurred during the third T20I match of India’s South Africa tour. Suryakumar who had scored his fourth T20I century earlier that day, injured his ankle while picking the ball. He was assisted off the field by the physios and fellow player Ravindra Jadeja.

TOS will be updating the Indian players list for the upcoming Test series for cricket fans. The first Test of India’s South India tour will be played between December 26 and 30 at SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium.
