Former South African captain AB de Villiers said he desires to play competitive cricket but has ruled out returning to professional leagues like the IPL or SA20.
The legendary cricketer has made it clear he is not considering playing for RCB in the Indian Premier League.
He revealed that his recent trips to training sessions with his children have stirred interest in him to play cricket again. He played his last international cricket in March 2018 and has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket since the IPL 2021 season.
“I might still play cricket one day,” told AB de Villiers.
“No confirmation whatsoever, but I am starting to feel it. My kids are putting me under a bit of pressure, and I feel like I could go to the nets with them.”
“If I enjoy it, maybe I will walk out and play a little bit of casual cricket somewhere again—nothing professional like the IPL or South African tours,” he said.
“Who knows? But we’ll see. I am going to try it again and see if this eye is still working. It’s a bit blurry, but this (the right one) is the dominant one, and it’s working fine. So, I’m doing it for my kids, and I am going to see if I can go out there and enjoy cricket again.”
“Nothing serious, though. We’re not talking about RCB and the big stuff. I don’t want to feel that pressure again. That’s the thing. So, wherever I go, I will have a bit of fun.”
AB de Villiers has been voiced about his interest in takin up coaching roles and had previously hinted at an association with RCB, which has yet to be confirmed.
Being a brand ambassador for the third season of SA20, De Villiers has been enjoying time with his family and friends. He has also maintained a strong connection with his fans via social media.
de Villiers was one of the stalwarts of modern-day cricket. With 8765 runs at an average of 50.66 in Tests, 9577 runs at 53.50 ODIs and a stellar T20I record.
He has amassed 5162 runs in 184 matches with a strike rate of 151. The star batter represented RCB from 2011 to 2021, having a strong bond with Indian star Virat Kohli and Bengaluru crowd.
