“A Good Headache to Have” Suryakumar Yadav on Emphatic Victory in 1st T20I Against India

T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was very glad about the side’s seven-wicket win in the first T20I on the Bangladesh tour of India 2024.

After bowling stars Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy set up the phase by hunting down Bangladesh batters for 127 runs, India chased the target in just 11.5 overs. Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya had their fine knocks in the match.

The captain was excited about the long-term prospects of having Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy in the T20I formats.

“We just tried to back our skills and what we decided in our team meetings, it worked out. The way the guys showed character playing on a new ground and the way we batted, it was great,” said Suryakumar Yadav at the post-match conference.

“It’s a good headache to have when you are on the field on whom to bowl. Every time you have an extra option, it’s a good thing.”

He also spoke about making some changes in the team but did not mention any specifics on the areas to have eyes on.

“You learn something new every new game. There are always a few areas to improve on, we will sit down and talk about it in the next game.”

Batting first Bangladesh scored 127 runs in their innings. Shanto scored 27 runs in top order while Mehidy Hasan scored 35 which is the highest score for Bangladesh in the match.

Responding to the target, India had a fiery start with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma scoring 29 and 16 runs. With Abhishek Sharma sent out on a run out, Suryakumar Yadav scored 29 runs before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahim.

After Mehidy Hasan picked the wicket of Sanju Samson, Nitish Reddy and Hardik Pandya completed the innings with 16 and 39 runs respectively in 11.5 overs.

Arshdeep Singh was named the player of the match after bowling 23 balls conceding only 14 runs and bagging three wickets.

Coming to the series, India leads 1-0 and Bangladesh will be looking to get back into the competition. The second T20I match of the tour will be played on October 09 at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
