Yes, you heard it right, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni is set to miss the season-opening match against Gujarat Titans on March 31 due to a niggle in his left knee.

Ahead of the season start, Chennai Super Kings bowler Mukesh Choudhary has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2023 owing to an injury.
“Although Dhoni came for the practice session on the eve of the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, he didn’t bat in the nets on Thursday. He was involved in a long discussion with Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten, with whom he won the 2011 50-over World Cup”, says a report.
MS Dhoni’s struggle with the knee injury has become a talkative point in recent times. That too during the intra-squad practice match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, he was initially hesitant to come to bat and was seen seated with a kneecap.
Though he came out to bat eventually, he was struggling to run and was seen limping every time he pushed for a two. There were instances when he even paused mid-way, before limping to the crease. And right through that evening, he didn’t keep wicket as well.
In the absence of MS Dhoni, CSK requires a new wicketkeeper and notably needs a CAPTAIN. Ben Stokes who is seen as a successor is already nursing a niggle himself.
CSK will next go for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad to fill the captain vacant. CSK would look at Devon Conway to take the gloves and in case the Kiwi opener doesn’t start the game, one of Gaikwad or Ambati Rayudu will keep the wicket.
Later that evening CSK CEO said that “As far as I am concerned, the Dhoni is 100% playing. I don’t know about any other development”.
As per IPL 2023 schedule, CSK will play the first match of the season against defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31 in Ahmedabad.
