PBKS vs MI Probable Playing 11: Punjab Kings is set to host Mumbai Indians after securing two victories out of six matches they played in the tournament. They secured victories in the matches against Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans while suffering defeat in the matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
On the other hand, Mumbai had a poor start in the season after suffering defeats in the first three matches but got to register two victories against Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore before suffering defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on the April 14 clash.
“It’s our time our top-order takes the responsibility. We’ve addressed the areas we need to look at to score runs. Also, coming into this wicket, it’s a challenge for the batters [across teams]. It’s unlike other wickets in India, it’s a challenging wicket for every batter. Especially for the visiting batters, because the nature of the composition is completely different. So, it’s an advantage for us I believe,” said PBKS Spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi.
“I can tell you over 10 years of experience, or 10 years of friendship with him, he’s really tough. And something like this is only going to motivate him. The way he’s taking it so far has been tremendous and very inspiring for a lot of us. Seeing it daily is not easy, but the guy is strong and he’s one of the toughest human beings going around in the world, and kudos to him for that. He’s not let anything affect him personally,” said Shreyas Gopal.
Rohit Sharma doesn’t have a great matchup against Rabada, but in the kind of form he is, it’s hard to beat against him. Against PBKS, Rohit scored 812 runs in 29 innings at a strike rate of 140.24 which also includes 7 fifties. Rohit’s last 5 T20 score stands as – 105*(vs CSK), 38(vs RCB), 49(vs DC), 0(vs RR) and 26(vs SRH).
Ishan Kishan can get off a blazing start if he survives the new ball spell from Arshdeep who has a good record against him. Ishan who is yet to expose his aggressive batting style in this tournament had a decent outing in his last 5 innings. His score stands as 23(vs CSK, 69(vs RCB), 42(vs DC), 16(vs RR), and 34(vs SRH).
Be it scoring runs or taking wickets, Sam Curran has been the go-to nab for PBKS. In Mullanpur stadium, the allrounder scored 98 runs and bagged 4 wickets in 3 innings.
Since 2021, in 1st innings, Jasprit Bumrah played 19 matches and bagged 34 wickets at an economy of 6.42 while playing 15 matches in 2nd innings and bagged 12 wickets at an economy of 6.97.
Suryakumar Yadav one of the finest T20 batters in the world currently looked in fine touch during his knock against RCB. Against PBKS, SKY scored 427 runs at an SR of 158.74 in 17 innings which also includes 3 half centuries.
Hardik Pandya is expected to bowl more given the reports coming in and generally gets to bat with enough overs remaining. The allrounder is expected to make his comeback in this match who is yet to score his maiden half-century of the season. Against PBKS, Hardik scored 246 runs and bagged 4 wickets so far.
Liam Livingstone with his power-hitting, he’s a good option with the ball and bowled well in the previous game. In his last three games, Liam bagged a wicket in each game and also remained handy with bat.
Gerald Coetzee bowls with a new ball, which is a good time to bowl in Mullanpur. Also, bowls at the death, which is a good time for wicket-taking anywhere. The bowler can also contribute with bat in the lower order. In his last 4 innings in IPL 2024, Coetzee scored 21(vs RR), 28*(vs LSG), 17(vs RCB), and 38*(vs DC).
The pitch at this venue has low bounce which is perfect for a skiddy bowler like Akash Madhwal. Akash who went wicketless in his last game against CSK is expected to make an impact in today’s game with his aggressive bowling attack.
Harshal Patel has a brilliant record against Mumbai Indians. In 13 matches, Harshal bagged 21 wickets in 13 matches at an economy of 8.06.
Arshdeep Singh‘s form has been patchy but on his day he can be very effective with new ball. Has a good record against Ishan Kishan. Arshdeep dismissed Kishan for 3 times while spilling just 25 runs.
Kagiso Rabada looks in superb rhythm and will be tough to handle in any phase of the innings, particularly with the new ball. Against MI’s top batters, Rabada holds an impressive record by dismissing Rohit Sharma 4 times(89 runs), Suryakumar Yadava 3 times(55 runs), and Kishan 1 time (58 runs) respectively.
Currently, Punjab Kings secured 8th position while Mumbai Indians secured 9th position in the IPL 2024 points table.
