Munaf Patel Likely to be Named as Delhi Capitals Bowling Coach

Former Indian cricketer Munaf Patel is being considered for the bowling coach position at Delhi Capitals. The team is undergoing significant changes following Ricky Ponting’s departure as head coach.

Hemang Badani has been appointed as Delhi Capitals head coach meanwhile Venugopal has been named as the Delhi Capitals director of cricket.

Venugopal’s appointment means Sourav Ganguly to step down or be shifted to another role within the franchise. A lot seems to be happening at Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025.

“I have to plan for next year’s IPL. I want to win the IPL for Delhi Capitals once. The mega auction is next year, and hence I have started planning from now on. Let me break the news. Ricky Ponting will not be the head coach of the Delhi Capitals.

Geoffrey Boycott was right, as Pointing has not been able to take the franchise forward in the past 7 years. I have to speak with the franchise and ask them to look at Indian coaches. Let’s see how I Perform,” Ganguly said.

“Hemang Badani will take charge as head coach for the upcoming two seasons. Additionally, Badani’s former India teammate, Venugopal Rao, will serve as the team’s director of cricket,” said a report.

Both Badani and Venugopal Rao have a mutual professional understanding and as per the report, Delhi Capitals has granted them the freedom to select the support staff.

“Both Venugopal and Badani have been involved with the franchise’s subsidiaries elsewhere—mainly in the ILT20 in the UAE and Major League Cricket (MLC) in the US.”

“Incidentally, both those sides—Dubai Capitals and Seattle Orcas—are owned by Delhi Capitals co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi of the GMR Group.”

“The JSW group is the other co-owner of the Delhi side, and the GMR group currently holds the reins of the franchise management that alternates between the partners every two years.”

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals franchise is likely to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

With October 31 being the deadline for the franchise to reveal retentions, Rishabh Pant‘s future with the team remains uncertain. With the reports suggesting the franchise will retain Pant, it cannot be said further for sure.
