In February 2017, Stokes was bought by Rising Pune Supergiants to play in the Indian Premier League during the 2017 season. He made his maiden Twenty20 century against Gujarat Lions, hitting 103 not out from 63 balls, including hitting seven fours and six sixes.

He was named as Most Valuable Player for the 2017 season. For the 2018 season, he moved to Rajasthan Royals having been bought for £ 1.7 million, the most expensive player in the 2018 IPL auction.

During the 2021 IPL, Stokes suffered a finger injury which ruled him out from the entire season after playing in only one match. He pulled out of the 2022 edition as he wanted to focus on his country’s Test team. He was bought by Chennai Super Kings to play in the IPL 2023 season for INR. 16.25 Crore (£1.6 million) in the IPL 2023 auction.

Though there were many questions regarding his participation in the IPL 2023 event, a report confirms that Ben Stokes confirms that he will be available for the IPL 2023 season.

As per IPL 2023 Schedule, Chennai Super Kings will play their first match of the tournament against defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31.

England skipper Ben Stokes was seen grappling with his left knee on day 3 of the ongoing second Test match against New Zealand. The knee injury allowed him to bowl just two overs in the entire day as he was seen limping off after the end of the day’s play.

Stokes has been dealing with a chronic knee problem since he took over as captain and while Collingwood admitted the issue is “always there”, he insisted Stokes “knows how to manage it”.

The all-rounder has gradually started bowling less and less, having delivered several short-pitched spells last summer which put his left knee under severe pressure.

Speaking in August, Stokes explained that “when nothing is really happening” he wants to take responsibility and “run in and hit the wicket as hard as I can and try and make something out of nothing”.

Ben Stokes Likely To Leave From IPL 2023 Early

While Ben Stokes is expected to captain the Chennai Super Kings, Stokes is expected to leave the IPL 2023 early to get part in Ireland as preparation for the upcoming Ashes.

“The worry with Stokes is that he does not do anything at half-tilt, and he has been injured at the IPL before. Stokes is expected to captain CSK too and will no doubt throw himself into the task like he does when he becomes England’s enforcer” Nick Hoult further wrote in his piece for the Telegraph.

Ben Stokes has played 43 IPL so far and scored 920 runs and bagged 28 wickets which include 2 half centuries.
