CBI Files Case on IPL 2019 Betting Scam; Says Betting Network Influenced 2019 IPL Results

The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed two cases to probe the betting network in the 2019 IPL on the allegations based on inputs received from Pakistan.

    IPL 2019 Betting Case

CBI adds that a case has been filed in the matter. “This network is influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League matches based on inputs received from Pakistan. In the garb of betting related to IPL matches, they are cheating the general public by inducing them for betting,” said the premier investigation agency.

For betting purposes, the said network opened bank accounts using fake IDs in collusion with unknown bank officials, said the central agency.

“These bank accounts have been opened by submitting forged details such as multiple dates of birth and without due diligence done by the bank officials,” said the CBI.

“A part of money received from the general public in India on account of such betting activities is also being shared with their associates based in foreign countries using Hawala transactions. As per information, the said network of individuals is involved in cricket betting since the year 2010,” it said.

The agency has also found unscrupulous financial activities of accused Dileep Kumar, a resident of Delhi, and Hyderabad-based Gurram Satish. The two, along with their associates, were in touch with a Pakistan-based suspect identified as Waqas Malik through a Pakistani phone number.

The FIR also alleges that the domestic cash deposits in bank accounts which defy economic rationale are valued at over Rs 43 lakh from 2013 onwards in the case of Dileep Kumar.

In the other case on similar charges, the CBI has booked Rajasthan residents – Sajjan Singh, Prabhu Lal Meena, Ram Avtar, Amit Kumar Sharma – as accused along with unknown bank officials and other unknown private persons.

Lalit Modi Throws Lights on IPL 2019 Match Fixing

During IPL 2019, former commissioner of Indian Premier League (IPL) Lalit Kumar Modi has alleged that match-fixing took place during an IPL match played between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

He tweeted a video of the match in which DC wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant can be heard on the stump mic saying that the next delivery would be hit for a four, and it exactly happened as Robin Uthappa hit the very next ball from Sandeep Lamichhane for a four.

“Is this a joke or cannot believe this. Match-fixing to the highest order. When will @iplt20 @bcci.tv @icc @bcci ever wakeup,” Modi tweeted.

7 Arrested in 2019 under betting case

In the IPL 2019 season, during the KKR vs RCB match, cops arrested a group of individuals from the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for being involved in cricket betting.

A team of Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) and Detective Department (DD) arrested a group of seven persons from F1 Block at Eden Gardens for their involvement in cricket betting, the police said.

These people were placing bets on the match between Bangalore and Kolkata. 14 mobile phones and one betting accessory was also seized from their possessions.

“The group was nabbed on Friday after the ARS and DD received information from a source regarding betting at Eden Gardens for VIVO Indian Premier League cricket match, which was played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB),” police said.
