IPL 2024 Playoffs: The playoff rounds of the IPL tournament will decide the winner of the IPL season. Post the league match completion, the top 4 teams in the IPL points table will enter the playoff round.

The top four teams will play 2 qualifiers, and 1 eliminator to shortlist the IPL season finals playing teams. Check out the list of teams that qualified for the IPL 2024 playoff below:

IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualified Teams

As per IPL 2024 Schedule, the first match will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 in Chennai.

Among 10 teams playing in IPL 2024 tournament, the top 4 teams in the IPL 2024 points table will be qualified to enter the IPL 2024 playoff rounds from which top teams will lock horns to play the IPL 2024 finals.

But ahead of the IPL 2024 tournament, some players may withdraw or be ruled out of the tournament owing to various reasons. The franchise will name a replacement player for the withdrawn player if needed or will prefer to continue to play with the remaining squad.

Following is the status of the 10 teams who were competing in the tournament for the IPL 2024 Playoffs:

IPL 2024 Group A Playoff Qualified Teams

As per the IPL grouping system, 5 teams(MI, KKR, RR, DC, LSG) are placed under Group A. Check out the  IPL 2024 Group A Points Table below:

IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances: Since the 2022 IPL edition, a team is required to score at least 16 points to qualify for the playoffs. As it is a 10-team tournament, a team is required to register at least 87 victories in their 14 league games. If multiple teams score the same 16-point mark, the team with better NRR will be considered for the playoff spot.

RCB IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have won just 5 games out of their first 12 matches and their playoff chances are still in oscillation. Royal Challengers Bangalore can reach a maximum of 14 points if they win their remaining two fixtures. And then they have to depend on the results of top teams.

CSK IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Chennai Super Kings are currently placed at the 4th spot in the IPL 2024 points table. Though they look comfortable at the moment, CSK need to win at least 2 of their remaining 3 games to enter the playoff round without much trouble.

To qualify for the playoffs a team requires at least 16 points. Keep that in concern, CSK can afford only one defeat in their remaining 3 games. If CSK wins all their remaining games, then Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co can comfortably enter the playoff round.

MI IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Since the introduction of 2 news in IPL 2022 season, no teams have qualified for the playoff with less than 16 points. If we follow the same, Mumbai’s chances of qualifying for the playoff round are next to impossible as they managed to score only 6 points in 10 games play played so far.

If Mumbai win all their remaining games they can score only 14 points which is 2 points less compared to the 16 points mark. Mumbai Indians also need to rely on other teams’ results to get a chance to enter the playoff round.

Mumbai Indians become the first team to be disqualified from the IPL 2024 playoff race.

RR IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Rajasthan Royals with 16 points from 11 matches nearly sealed their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs with 3 matches remaining to play. Though RR lost those 3 matches they can still qualify for the playoffs with their decent run rate.

KKR IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Kolkata Knight Riders bagged 16 points in 11 games and are on the verge of qualifying for the playoffs. KKR needs just one win in their remaining 3 games to be qualified for the playoffs. KKR’s position in the top 4 will be decided based on the result of their remaining matches.

KKR becomes the first team to be qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs. 

SRH IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Sunrisers Hyderabad who bagged 14 points in their first 12 games needs to win at least one of their remaining 2 matches. If they manage to register a victor in their remaining 2 matches they will end up scoring 16 points which is the required points to qualify for the playoffs.

An extra win will make their path comfortable if not then they need to maintain a better run rate compared to the other teams with the same 16 points.

PBKS IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Punjab Kings’ chances for the playoffs are still not in a healthy condition for the IPL 2024 playoffs. With a win against CSK at Chepauk, PBKS bagged 8 points in 10 matches they played. Punjab needs to win all their remaining 4 games to achieve the 16 points count which could lead them to enter the playoffs comfortably.

If not, PBKS needs to win at least 3 of their remaining 4 games which could make them score 14 points. With 14 points and a better run rate, PBKS needs to rely on other teams’ results for their playoff chances.

Punjab Kings becomes the second team to be eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoff race after Mumbai Indians.

LSG IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Lucknow Super Giants currently bagged 12 points in 12 games they played so far. If LSG wins their next couple of games they would bag 16 points but the qualification scenario needs something as dramatic as Delhi Capitals’ qualification scenario.

GT IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

IPL 2022 winners Gujarat Titans are nearly having a tough time this season. Like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans are also aiming to qualify for the playoffs with a maximum of 14 points. However, their net run rate is (-)1.320 gives them lesser chances for their qualification.

DC IPL 2024 Playoffs Chances

Delhi Capitals need to win all their remaining two matches to increase their playoff chances. If Delhi wins their remaining 2 games, they could end up bagging 16 points which is quite good for qualification but CSK and LSG also share the same point with DC.

As of now, CSK holds the 4th spot with a better run rate compared to DC. If CSK wins their remaining 3 matches, then DC will suffer a massive blow in their playoff race.

Though the teams to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoff will be announced post the league matches, the schedule for the IPL 2024 playoffs and final will be announced earlier.

IPL 2024 Playoffs Stadium

The playoffs of the IPL will feature 2 qualifier matches with one eliminator and 1 final match to decide the winner of the tournament.

IPL 2024 Playoffs Date

The IPL 2024 playoff will begin to post the IPL 2024 league match completion. Following are the dates of the IPL 2024 playoffs:

• Qualifier 1 – May 21, Tue
• Eliminator – May 22, Wed
• Qualifier 2 – May 24, Fri
• Final – May 26, Sun

IPL 2024 Format

IPL 2024 Format: The format of the IPL 2024 edition will be the same as the previous year but there will be changes in the venues. Following are the details of the IPL 2024 Format:

• The ten teams are divided into two groups of five.
• A random draw was used to determine the groups and who plays whom across the groups once and twice.
• In the group stage, each team plays 14 games facing the other four teams in their group two times each (one home and one away game), four teams in the other group once, and the remaining team two times.
• IPL Points Table system: The team winning a match will be awarded 2 points. The losing team will not receive any points. In case of a draw or no result, both teams will be awarded 1 point.
• A four-game playoff stage following the Page playoff system is held after the group stage. Four games will be played in the playoffs.

IPL 2024 Playoffs Rules

The playoffs consist of two Qualifiers and one Eliminator. Qualifier 1 is played first, followed by the Eliminator and then Qualifier 2.

Qualifier 1: The first Qualifier is played between the top two teams in the points table. The Qualifier is like a semi-final. The team winning this game goes straight to the IPL final. The loser of Qualifier 1 takes part in Qualifier 2 – for another shot at the final. Thus, the teams finishing in the top two spots of the points table get two bites of the cherry – they have two chances to qualify for the IPL final.

Eliminator: The Eliminator is played between teams who finish at the third and fourth position in the points table. Like the name suggests, the team losing this match is out of the competition. The winner of this match goes into Qualifier 2.

Qualifier 2: The loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator play this game. This again is like a semi-final and the team winning this game moves into the final.

IPL Final: The final and the most crucial juncture of this prestigious competition is played between the winner of Qualifier 1 and the winner of Qualifier 2.

Who qualified for IPL Playoffs Most of The Time?

Chennai Super Kings(CSK) qualified to the playoffs for the most number of times in the IPL tournament. CSK entered playoffs 12 times out of 15 seasons played so far. For the first time in IPL 2020, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs.
