Former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri claims that Virat Kohli who struggles to find his form needs to perform in order to stay in the Indian cricket team in the future. He also added that he can’t play for long riding on his “name”.
Karsan Ghavri on Virat Kohli’s Form
While missing the first T20I against England, the former Indian captain is expected to miss the West Indies T20Is. Being neglected in the T20I series the chances for Virat Kohli to enter the Indian T20I world cup squad have gotten into oscillation.
Karsan Ghavri says that Virat Kohli has to prove his worth in the ongoing T20I series against England to stay on the top priority for the T20I World Cup squad.
Earlier, many cricketers including Michael Vaughan and Ravi Shastri have asked Virat Kohli to take a three-month-long sabbatical. While the likes of Rashid Latif have been positive, and say that Kohli will come back to form eventually.
“Virat Kohli is such a great player for India but unfortunately for the last two years, we have seen him getting caught behind or caught in the slips while chasing the delivery outside the off stump. He has to look at this and improve.
He has to restrict those shots because if he keeps going like this and getting out and not getting runs, there comes a question mark – why is he not scoring?” Ghavri told.
“He has to prove his form in the current series. These days you can’t play for long riding on your name. Virat is a great player but only his name will not work. He has to perform and score runs.
This is how it goes. Everybody understands that he is going through a rough patch and it happens with every player. He has the hunger for runs, hunger for success in his heart but his personal form is quite disappointing,” Ghavri added in an exclusive interview to Jagran TV.
The second T20I against England will be played on July 9 in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Virat Kohli will return to the squad and will play under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
