Indian star Virat Kohli is one step behind to equal the records of Sachin Tendulkar with the most centuries. He missed a chance during the match against New Zealand at Dharamsala where he scored 95 runs to help the side win the match by four wickets.
With that victory, India runs an unbeaten streak of 5 consecutive victories in the ICC tournament 2023. He helped the side to break its 20-year-old World Cup Jinx against New Zealand.
On this occasion, Virat Kohli is India’s leading run scorer in the ICC tournament and he is one century away from matching Tendulkar’s record with 49 centuries in the ODI format.
Chasing the achievement of his idol, the Indian star Virat Kohli was given a small piece of advice by batting legend Sunil Gavaskar to surpass the Master Blaster in the ongoing tournament.
Sunil Gavaskar says that Virat Kohli will surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the match against South Africa. Surprisingly it will be a better occasion as it will be his birthday.
“I don’t know about the 49th but I know about the record-breaking 50th. Kohli will slam his 50th ODI century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens and what better occasion than his birthday? It’s a sight when you slam a ton there because the Kolkata crowd gives you a standing ovation, and cheers for you, the air is filled with whistles and claps. It is a moment to savor for every batter,” told Gavaskar.
For that, he has to score one century in any one of the upcoming matches against England and Sri Lanka.
Virat Kohli smashed multiple records during the match against New Zealand where he became the first Indian player to score 3000 runs in all formats. He surpassed the Sri Lankan player Jayasuriya to become the fourth-highest run scorer in the 50-over format.
He recently achieved the feat of fastest to reach 26000 runs in international cricket. He achieved this in 511 games while Sachin Tendulkar achieved this milestone in 664 matches. He has an impressive average of 118.00 where he scored 354 runs in 5 World Cup matches.
India will be facing England in the 29th World Cup match on October 29 at Ekana Sports City, Lucknow.
