Ahead of the BBL 2023-24 season, the former Australian Test captain, Tim Paine was named as the new assistant coach of the Adelaide Strikers.
Paine Named as Adelaide Strikers’ Assistant Coach
Former Australia player and Test captain Tim Paine announced his retirement from first-class cricket in March 2023. He was forced to step down from the captaincy after a controversy hit him and his family. Pat Cummins took over the captaincy after Tim Paine and retained Ashes.
Tim Paine was appointed as the assistant coach of the Adelaide Strikers ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League. Tim Paine has been working as a part-time coach of the Australian U19 team and Australia A will be playing a series against New Zealand A in the upcoming week.
Tim Paine is one of the most experienced players who has played over 400 professional games in his 18-year career. He has led the Australian team for 23 Tests between 2018 and 2021 and played a total of 35 tests in his career.
He had an average of 32.63 with a highest score of 92 with a total score of 1,100 runs and had scalped 157 wickets as a wicketkeeper. He has played a total of 35 ODIs for Australia.
Jason Gillespie a former Australian bowler and the coach of Adelaide Strikers said that Paine’s joining as assistant coach can bring the required changes to the franchise.
Tim Paine has joined the Adelaide Strikers in the BBL as an assistant coach. “Tim has all the skills to be a fantastic coach,” said Gillespie.
“The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play.”
Tim Nielson, strikers General Manager is happy and excited about Paine’s arrival this summer. “Tim is a great addition to our team and will help us in so many ways this season. A gifted keeper and Test-level batter, Tim will be invaluable working with our players both on the field and with the bat. His ability to provide effective, direct feedback is top class and we really look forward to him getting up to Adelaide,” Nielsen said.
Cricket Australia has announced the schedule for the 13th edition of the Big Bash League which starts on December 7, 2023. The tournament will feature 8 teams with 44 matches, which consists of 40 league games and four knock-out fixtures.
Brisbane Heat, the runners of the previous serious, will kick off the tournament playing against Melbourne Stars at the Gabba. Perth Scorchers will be having their first match against Melbourne Renegades on December 10.
