    Bumrah Praises Rohit Sharma’s Leadership for Opting Out in Sydney Test

    The ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has praised Rohit Sharma’s leadership as he opted to rest as one of the positives in the Indian team. Bumrah came out for the toss at the final test match in Sydney.

    Rohit has been struggling to score runs in recent test series scoring only single digits in the ongoing series. India made an extraordinary move to replace their captain with the five-match series hanging in the ropes.

    Rohit has scored only 164 runs in 8 matches since the Bangladesh series. He missed the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and failed to perform in the following matches.

    With Rohit Sharma being left out, Shubman Gill has been named in the playing 11. The indications that Rohit Sharma was evident with head coach Gautam Gambhir refusing to confirm the captain’s availability on the eve of the match.

    During the toss, Bumrah said that there is ‘positive’ change in the dressing room.

    “Yeah, the chat was pretty good,” he said. “We’re trying to keep the spirits positive and obviously trying to keep the positives in mind and keep the learnings as well,” said Bumrah.

    “Obviously, our captain [Rohit Sharma] has shown his leadership as well. He’s opted to rest in this game.

    “So that shows that there’s a lot of unity in our team. There’s no selfishness. Whatever is in the team’s best interest, we’re looking to do that,” he said.

    To be noted, Bumrah captained the side during their 295-run win in the first test of the series at Perth. India trails the series 2-1 but with a chance to square the series and thereby retaining the trophy.
