The last time India lost against West Indies for five successive home ODIs was way back in Jan 1988. West Indies is touring India with heavy heart losing 15 ODI bilateral series straight and ended up that streak against Afghanistan recently by winning 3-0. As they already won the 1st ODI of this 3 Match Series, they would be eyeing on to clinch the series before heading to Cuttack for 3rd ODI.
West Indies had won the toss and elected to bowl first. Below are the playing XI for the 2nd ODI International 2019 at Visakhapatnam.
India vs West Indies Playing XI for 2nd ODI:
West Indies Playing XI:
West Indies has made 2 changes from which they have played in the 1nd ODI in Chennai.
On 23rd May 2018, Ab De Villiers has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket, which lead to surprise all over the cricketing fraternity with age and form behind him to continue at international stages. He’s still riding on his top form, where he had scored 37-ball 51 runs in the recently concluded Mzansi Super League final. The loss was against his fellow South African Faf du Plessis, who lead his side Paarl Rocks to triumph chasing 148 runs in just 14.2 overs.
In the press conference after the triumph, there comes the most anticipated question on Ab De Villiers Retirement and he getting back to national colours for T20 International. Faf responded in way, “I’m so used to that question now”.
He further adds to the question of wanting De Villiers to come out of retirement.
“People want AB to play and I am no different, Those conversations [with De Villiers] have been happening for two or three months already – what does it look like, how does it look over the next year, and that’s where it starts”.
Faf has tagged his long-time friend as a beast in the T20 format and said they have only 20 matches before heading to T20 World Cup in 2020, which won’t be that hard for his standards.
“T20 cricket is a different beast; it’s not a lot of time away from home. If you are a full campaigner you have to really get stuck in and spend a lot of time on the road. Test cricket now is the most important thing but also the T20 World Cup is not too far away. I reckon there are 20 T20s over the season, which won’t be that hard. Those conversations have already taken place and will do before the next T20 series starts”
Former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher has been appointed as head coach of South Africa recently. He’s no different in the stand of getting back AB De into Proteas team and said, they can’t leave the best player of the nation when they’re heading into big events like T20 World Cup.
“When you go to a World Cup you want your best players. If you feel he’s one of the best players, then why wouldn’t you want to have conversations with him? If there are a couple of issues you’ve got to iron out, if it’s for the best of South Africa, absolutely. Let’s try and do it.”
There is a lot has been happening even out of South Africa’s dressing room. Graeme Smith has been appointed as Director of South African cricket, even after withdrawing from the run last month. Jacques Faul is now the chief executive and obviously veteran Mark Boucher as head coach. Du Plessis had seen the positive side of it and said anything can change in a week of time and what happened in South African cricket is no different from it.
“A lot can change in a week, We’ve seen that first-hand. It was the dark ages last week and there’s a little bit of light this week and that’s very good. It’s very important; it will help the dressing room and even the supporters. Everyone wants the team to do well, everyone wants to make sure we get the right people in the right positions. It’s good that there is a bit of positivity around in and there’s excitement in the air, for myself included.”
South Africa will be playing against India in the T20 World Cup as their first game on October 24th, 2020.
Cricket Australia has announced their ODI squad which will tour India in January. Players who had been part of the World Cup squad in 2019 didn’t cut into this new-looking squad. The players who’re part of losing side in the semi-final against England includes big names like Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Nathan Lyon, while Jason Behrendorff is left out of the squad due to injury.
To look in that way, the players who’re part of the world cup is replaced by New-Emerging red ball Cricketer Marnus Labuschagne, who is expected to make his debut directly. Kane Richardson, Ashton Agar, Josh Hazlewood, Ashton Turner, and Sean Abbott.

While asking about the team selection, the Cricket Australia insisted that it was selected based on their recent T20 Series performance against Srilanka and Pakistan.
“The performance of the top order at home through the T20 series was very strong so we look for that to continue in the Indian ODI series,” said team selector Trevor Hohns.
Marnus Labuschange, who is in red hot form in red-ball cricket had only seen uphill since making his debut in test cricket in October 2018 against Pakistan. The Selector also backed up new players who made into the squad to start off their summer.
“We also believe Marnus Labuschagne is ready for his international white-ball debut after his strong form for Queensland in this form of the game” he added.
On Peter Handscomb:
“Peter also doubles as a backup ‘keeper if required while Ashton Agar adds to the squad with his all-round abilities”
On Ashton Turner:
“Ashton Turner has proven himself in India with his ability to adapt to local conditions as did Peter Handscomb who joined the squad at the most recent World Cup”
On Spin Bowler Ashton Agar, who is going to accompany with his partner Adam Zampa:
“Adam Zampa and his growing combination with Agar is also something the selectors want to see more of while Nathan Lyon remains in the one-day squad selection frame.”
On Seam Bowlers Sean Abbott and Kane Richarson:
“In terms of the bowling group we are sticking with combination that are performing well. Sean Abbott and Kane Richardson are in the squad following the successful T20 campaign”
As we all know, Glenn Maxwell who took an indefinite break from cricket due to mental health is set to return to cricket in the Big Bash League(BBL) starting today. Trevor Hohns has said the management will monitor Maxwell and his performance in BBL before entering into the international stage.
The CA Selector said, “It is great to see Glenn Maxwell returning to the game in the Big Bash League. We will closely monitor his form after what would have been disappointing 12 months in the one-day game by his standards.”
On the other, Australian Coach Justin Langer is set to skip India tour and handed over the role to Andrew McDonald, who also insisted other staffs in team to take some break as well.
“I can’t be telling all our staff to look after themselves and make sure you have time to recharge and have time with your family and then not do it myself. As one of the leadership group it’s important to show that not only are we focused on getting the balance right for the players but equally the coaches and staff, head coach included”
On Asking about McDonald, he said.,
“Macca’ is an exceptional coach in all forms of the game and has been fantastic since coming on board. He will do a great job with this squad. We are in very, very good hands.”

England’s All-Rounder Ben Stokes is named as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019. This came after his heroics in World Cup Final and Mind-boggling innings in Ashes against Australia.
Unbeaten 84* Runs in Cricket World Cup 2019, where he also added another 8 runs in the super over.
Scores another sensational 135* runs at Headingley Carnegie in the Ashes Series against England, which is also touted to be one of the greatest test innings in English cricket.
Ben Stokes also crowned with SPOTY overtaking Lewis Hamilton and third-placed Dina Asher-Smith.
By no-surprise, Twitter is full of wishes for Stokes from all over the world.
Virat Kohli has shown his disappointment with the decision taken regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s run out in 1st ODI against West Indies in Chennai. After India’s victory in the T20 Series as 2-1, the Indian team headed to Chennai from Mumbai for the first ODI. West Indies had won the toss and elected to field first.
In the course of play when India is on 268-5 at the end of 47th Over, Keemo Paul came to bowl his 6th over of the innings. He got Kedar Jadav’s wicket of his third ball, caught by Pollard at long-off, which made Jadeja to take the strike of the next ball. Jadeja strikes the ball to silly mid-off region and tried to take the single, where Roston Chase came and forced a direct hit. The umpire (Shaun George from South Africa) was in a good position to call it out or direct it for a third umpire decision, but he carelessly left it though Roston chase appealed for it. The bowler came back to deliver the next ball. After seeing the reply on the big screen, west indies from the dug-out insisted Jadeja is short of the crease and asked Pollard to appeal for it, so did pollard.
Soon after, pollard appealed it again, the on-field umpire had gone for third umpire’s referral and given it as out. It should not be the right way of giving out, though the batsman was out, where Kohli standing near the boundary line with angry face. On asking about that particular dismissal in the post-match presentation, he fumed in a way that he hasn’t seen anything like that in cricket before. Here’s what Kohli said,
” The fielder asked about the run-out and the umpire said not out. This dismissal end there. The people sitting outside cannot tell the fielder and they can’t ask the umpire about reviewing the runout. I have never seen this in cricket. I don’t know where the rules are. The referee and the umpire has to take that up and decide. The people sitting outside the field shouldn’t dictate what happens on the field and that’s exactly what happened there. “
On the other hand, when asking about the same in the post-match presentation, Pollard said “At the end of the day, the right decision was made and that’s the most important thing for me.” Pollard was a happy man without any doubt as they have made a record run chase at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer had stitched on to a 218 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket, where the later registered his swash-buckling 5th ODI Century scoring 139 runs off just 106 deliveries.
Apart from that, on asking about their team’s loss in the first ODI of the series, Kohli was on his positive sides of the Indian team as he lauded Pant and Iyer’s responsible Innings though himself and Rohit failed at the top order.
“Very good signs for us with the performances of Iyer and Pant. Myself and Rohit not clicking today gave a good opportunity for the youngsters to stitch together a partnership. You try to go in with as many options as you can.”
He further added about the bowling option with which they have gone in this match,
“We thought six bowling options would be enough. We thought six bowling options would be enough. I don’t think pitch changed drastically, they batted brilliantly. The spinners were getting help but they put pressure on our spinners brilliantly. Hetmyer’s innings was outstanding. We would have got 15-20 runs more had something not happened out there.”
Next ODI is scheduled on December 18th, 2019 in Visakapatnam, where India will go into the game as a must-win situation to equalize the 3 match series.
