PCB gets mail from ICC on India’s unwillingness to tour Pakistan for Champions Trophy

    0
    Pakistan vs India

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Sunday that India had informed the International Cricket Council about its unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled in February-March next year.

“The PCB has received an e-mail from the ICC, stating that the BCCI has informed them that their team will not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025,” PCB said in a statement.

“The PCB has forwarded that e-mail to the Government of Pakistan for their advice and guidance,” said a PCB spokesperson.

PCB made no further comments on the ICC e-mail but its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi had said on Friday that Pakistan would unveil its policy when they get something in writing from the ICC.

The BCCI had earlier intimated to the global cricket body about India’s inability to travel to the neighbouring nation, leaving the PCB with no option but to organise the Champions Trophy in the ‘Hybrid Model’.

Naqvi had also said that the ‘Hybrid Model’ was unacceptable to Pakistan.

India has not sent its cricket team to Pakistan since 2008 when they last came for the Asia Cup under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy. Pakistan has toured India for a bilateral white-ball series in 2012-13, the T20 World Cup in 2016 and the 50-over World Cup last year.

As reported earlier, India will play all its matches in Dubai and the high-profile India vs Pakistan tie will also be held in the UAE.

“This is an ICC event and BCCI has informed the global body that it won’t travel to Pakistan. It will depend on ICC to inform the host nation about the development and then close in on the scheduling of the tournament. The convention is to announce the schedule 100 days prior to the commencement of the event,” a BCCI source had told PTI on conditions of anonymity a few days back.

Dubai is the best location for India’s matches as it has the highest capacity among three stadiums, and all the essential infrastructure is well in place after hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup last month.

Last year, the Asia Cup, which was hosted by Pakistan, had to be held in a ‘Hybrid Model’ after India refused to tour the country.

SA bowlers restrict India to paltry 124/6 on a bouncy pitch in second T20I

Indian top-order suffered a collective meltdown against disciplined South African bowlers on a bouncy pitch, managing a way below par 124 for six in the second T20I here on Sunday.

SA skipper Aiden Markram had little hesitation in selecting to bowl once he won the toss, and the bowlers vindicated his call with a stellar effort.

The Proteas bowlers hit the back of length line and the natural bounce on the pitch did the rest. Abhishek Sharma’s dismissal was an example for this.

The left-hander’s underwhelming outings in T20Is continued as his miscued pull off a climbing delivery from Gerald Coetzee ended in the hands of Marco Jansen, who made the first strike dismissing Sanju Samson (0, 3b).

Samson, who had become the first Indian batsman to score back-to-back T20I hundreds, gave himself space to heave Jansen over mid-off, but the opener paid a heavy price for needless pre-meditation to get bowled.

Jansen started off with a wicket maiden and the rest of the SA bowlers hardly offered any freebies for Indian batters to shake off the pressure.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who shuffled across a tad too much, missed a fuller delivery from Andile Simelane to get trapped in front of the stumps, and it was the pacer’s maiden international wicket.

India ended the Power Play segment on a poor 34 for three.

Axar Patel (27, 21b), who was moved up the order played a couple of delectable shots including a punch through the covers off Keshav Maharaj for a four, was India’s most assured batter on the night.

But the left-hander backed up a bit too far as Hardik Pandya’s straight drive took a deflection off spinner Peter Nqabayomzi’s hand before rattling the stumps. Axar did not even wait for the review to walk away from the field.

In the interim, India went through a boundary-less period between the 10th and 16th over, which was ended when Arshdeep Singh mowed leg-spinner Peter for a six.

Even an accomplished hitter like Hardik Pandya (39, 45 balls), who found some late steam, had to wait till his 28th delivery to find a boundary, underscoring India’s struggles on the night.

    South Africa’s Brilliant Bowling Restricts India to 124/6 in 20 Overs | 2nd T20I

South Africa won the toss and they chose to bowl first in the 2nd T20I against India.

Indian Batters started to struggle from the first over. Last Match centurion Sanju Samson gone for a three ball DUCK. Indian batters started losing thier wickets in the upcoming overs one after another.

After 4 overs, India were just 15 for 3 & they lost Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and the Skipper, Surya Kumar Yadav.

Tilak Varma and Axar Patel takes the game forward from there.

Everything was going right till that moment. Markram comes to bowl the 8th over and it wasn’t going good. Both Tilak and Axar were trying hard to get boundaries.

It was the last ball of Markram’s first over. The ball was tossed up and Tilak Varma drives it up towards cover but Miller sticks out his right hand and plucks it out of thin air.

Axar Patel showed some promising form, connecting well with the ball, but was unfortunately run out at the non-striker’s end due to an unlucky deflection from Hardik Pandya’s straight drive off the bowler’s hand.

Rink Singh didn’t stay as he departed for 9 runs from 11 balls.

Arshdeep Singh stays strong on the non-strikers end and it was Hardik Pandya who faced most of the balls from then. Arshdeep came in after 15.2 Overs and at that time, Hardik Pandya was just 14 runs from 23 balls.

Middle Order Concern seems to be turned ON for Team India in this Series and it should not continue further.

Hardik was trying to connect the ball and he couldn’t able to connect except few balls. There were few drops in the last over allowed him to stay not out till the end.

At the end of 20 overs, India were 124 for 6 and Hardik Pandya was 39 from 45 balls.

The India tour of South Africa 2024 kicked off with a four-match T20I series. In the first T20I, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl.

Star opener Sanju Samson continued his impressive form, scoring a brilliant century. However, India struggled to maintain momentum after his dismissal, and the run rate dropped significantly. The lack of strong finishers in this match raised some concerns about India’s middle order.

On November 10, in the second T20I, Samson was dismissed for a duck, and India faced similar challenges. Each player tried to score aggressively, but no solid partnerships were established.

Axar Patel showed some promising form, connecting well with the ball, but was unfortunately run out at the non-striker’s end due to an unlucky deflection from Hardik Pandya’s straight drive off the bowler’s hand.

Credit is due to South Africa’s bowlers, who delivered a disciplined and effective attack throughout the match.

Hardik Pandya stayed at the crease until the last ball but couldn’t turn it into a big score. At the end of 20 overs, India posted 124/6, setting a target of 125 for South Africa. This will put pressure on the Indian bowlers to defend the total.

It is a very shattering experience: Ashwin on 0-3 White Wash to New Zealand

    0
    Ashwin MS Dhoni
    Ashwin with MS Dhoni

India’s senior off-spinner R Ashwin has described the 0-3 whitewash in the Test series against New Zealand as “shattering” and took the blame for the unprecedented drubbing at home.

This is the first time India suffered a whitewash in a series comprising three or more Tests at home, having gone unbeaten on their own turn for the last 12 years.

“We have been hit by a 3-0 loss by New Zealand. I read somewhere that it has never happened in India,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

“I know that in my career and experience, we do not have so many emotions when we play. But, it is a very shattering experience, which is the right word. I didn’t know how to respond or react to it for the last two or three days.”

Ashwin took responsibility for India’s poor performance in the series, and acknowledged that his own below-par performance has not helped the team’s cause.

“I expect a lot from myself. I am a guy who says I am the reason for everything that went wrong. I am also a big reason and a big part of it (series loss).

“I couldn’t contribute to the lower-order runs. As a bowler, I know that runs are a vital currency for a bowler. I started well in many places, then I threw it away on a couple of occasions. I put my best but it wasn’t enough,” Ashwin added.

The 38-year-old seasoned campaigner hoped the team would be able to learn from the embarrassing series loss.

“Losing is okay, as nobody is invincible. Our first mistake is to think we are invincible, and I do not think like that. After 20 days, when we reflect, we will have clarity,” he added.

“I expect closure, and there should be a conclusion. Only if there is a conclusion, we would be able to learn from it. There is no finish line, as there is only a starting line for what you do next.”

Ashwin managed just nine wickets in six innings at an average of 41.22, and his best figures in the series read 3/63.

“I kept asking myself questions and discussed a lot. If I wanted to complain, I used to complain to my kids. I put my best out there, but it wasn’t enough. I am a guy who says ‘I am the reason for everything that went wrong’, and I am also a big reason and part of it.

“I kept asking myself, ‘Why did I start well again and again, and leave it hanging? Where did we make a mistake? Did we lose our minds?’

“You need to give a push. When you bat, you cannot keep taking the punches.

“Every time, when I pushed the momentum of the innings, I just lost my wicket at the wrong time, and at the wrong juncture — feel very bad about it.”

Ashwin pointed out what worked for New Zealand and praised the Kiwis for their superb display.

“New Zealand played some fantastic cricket. At no stage in the series they bat out India, but had enough runs on the board for their bowlers to stay in the game. They defended well and there were no LBWs because of the speed of the pitch. It eliminated the pitch.

“They didn’t get hit in the legs. They just protected the outside edge. I think I couldn’t exploit it. I felt bad,” Ashwin said.

South African Fast Bowlers were in a nice rythm today as they are targeting the openers well and good.

Sanju Samson who created record with 2 consecutive centuries in the last two matches, didn’t get the timing right and gone for a duck. He was trying to be aggresive but it didn’t help like the last match. Jansen strikes right on his third ball and dismisses Samson for a DUCK.

    Samson b Marco Jansen 0(3)

Abhishek Sharma faced his first ball in the second over and started it with a boundary. But Gerald Coetzee strikes him on his third ball of his first over and got his wicket. It was a top edge and gone.

Abhishek Sharma c Marco Jansen b Gerald Coetzee 4(5) [4s-1]

Suryakumar Yadav was trying to take charge by timing the ball. But, Simelane get his wicket by an LBW call. This was pitched up by the bowler around middle and leg, and the batsman got beaten. Gets hit on the back shoe and the umpire reckons this was lbw.

Tilak Varma and Axar Patel are in the middle at the moment and trying to build a strong solid innings right from there.
