    “To just try and lighten the mood and to make sure that Srinath got back to normalcy, during practice before the game when the match hadn’t started yet, he asked me to switch trousers. He said, ‘Take my trousers, put them in Srinath’s bag, and pull out his trousers and keep it away wherever you can, be it in your bag, be it in my bag. Just take it away’.”

    Srinath didn’t even notice that he was wearing shorter trousers. “Srinath doesn’t even care. He finishes his practice, gets back to the dressing room, puts his trousers on, gets on the field, bowls the first ball, and people are laughing on the field. The Indian side is laughing on the field, and little does he realise what’s happened,” said Badani.

    “Then someone points at his trousers and said, ‘Sri, look at your trousers, they’re so short!’ That’s when he realises that something is on, and something is wrong. Actually, what has happened after that is, because of this banter and lighter moment, he gets back to being normal and bowls a brilliant spell.

    “But he had to come off the field after the first over, he changed his trousers, he asked me, ‘What the hell is happening, kisne kia [who did it]’ and all that. I said I have no clue. I innocently put my hands up and said, ‘I don’t know, Sri, what you’re talking about. I don’t know what’s happening!’ And [he] eventually changed his trousers, went back in, and he bowled a brilliant spell.”

    Srinath took one wicket and gave 41 runs in the 9 overs that he bowled, thus ending up with the second-best economy rate in the attack in that match behind Harbhajan Singh. India, however, went on to lose the match by 16 runs.

    The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has reported the beginning of the postponed domestic season from August 1 when County Championship will get in progress. Country cricket was initially planned to begin in April yet was deferred due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    Considering it a ‘noteworthy advance’, ECB CEO Tom Harrison said the arrangement and arranging will be dependent upon the rules from government and clinical experts.

    “It is a significant step for our game that we can approve the start of the men’s domestic season for 1 August and one which will be welcomed by everyone connected with County Cricket,” he said.

    ”It follows extensive consultation between the 18 First-Class Counties, the Professionals Cricketers’ Association and ECB and has only been achievable thanks to the significant hard work that continues to occur as we prepare for a domestic season unlike any the game has faced before.

    “It must be stressed that the safety of our players, staff and officials has been the priority through all discussions and Government guidance will continue to shape our planning and preparation.

    “Planning for the return of the women’s domestic game remains ongoing, but our commitment to women’s domestic cricket is unwavering and we look forward to sharing further news shortly.”

    International cricket is set to return next month with England hosting West Indies for a three-match Test series.

    “More than anything on the field, we share a great relationship off the field. Knowing each other so well, understanding each other’s comforts and discomforts, that is very important,” Rohit had said while speaking with Mayank Agarwal and Dhawan on the series ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ hosted by bcci.tv.

    “We shared rooms together when we went on India A tours. So we have got a lot of history together. As a person, we both know each other quite well and that helps a lot on the field.”
