    Steve Smith Enjoying Ice Bath

While Australia are yet to resume international cricket after the game was suspended in March due to coronavirus, swashbuckling batsman Steve Smith was recently seen enjoying an ice bath after a long time during this forced break.

On Monday, the 31-year-old took to his official Instagram account and posted a picture of him taking a dip in an ice tub.

Along with the picture, Smith revealed that Australian celebrity trainer Luke Zocchi had convinced him that ice baths are not that bad.

“It’s been a long time between ice baths but this week somehow @zocobodypro has convinced me they aren’t so bad,” Smith wrote along with a picture of him in the tub and Zocci standing outside.

    Warner’s Reply:

Smith’s fellow batsman and opener David Warner, who has been quite active on social media during the coronavirus lockdown with his hilarious videos with family, was quick to reply to the former Australia skipper’s post.

Warner commented, “Been telling him for years about ice baths.”

Recently, Smith was also seen enjoying some catching practice with his daughter.

“When you’re locked up what do we do girls!! 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ practice catching 😂😂 #family #cricket #fun” the Australian batsman posted along with a picture of him with his family playing cricket.

The first ODI between Australia and New Zealand on March 13 was the country’s last international match before cricket was distrupted due to the novel virus.

Australia are likely to tour England for three-match ODI series and as many T20Is in September.

Smith, who is currently ranked the No.1 batsman in the world at the moment in the Test cricket, was all set to lead Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 IPL which was slated to take place from March 29 to May 24. However, the tournament was  postponed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in April indefinitely in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

IPL 2020 Gets in Card As ICC Postpones T20 World Cup After Weeks of Speculation

    0
BCCI is keen on hosting the IPL 2020 in a window between September and November first week

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has a cleared route to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020 after the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the postponement of T20 World Cup 2020 on Monday.

After weeks of deliberation, the ICC said on Monday said the ‘decision to postpone the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was taken after careful consideration of all of the options available’ and its ‘number one priority has been to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the sport’ in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ICC also said that its member nations ‘now have the clarity they need around event windows to enable them to reschedule lost bilateral and domestic cricket’.

Chances for shortened IPL 2020 brightens

The postponement of the T20 World Cup has brightened the chances of IPL 2020 which missed the April-May window as it was postponed until further notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As it turns out, the BCCI is keen on hosting the IPL 2020 in a window between September and November first week, India Today reported after the Indian board’s Apex Council meeting on Friday.

The Asia Cup, which was scheduled for September-October, was also postponed due to the pandemic, the Asian Cricket Council confirmed earlier this month.

    Asia cup T20

The BCCI has more or less zeroed in on the United Arab Emirates as the host nation for IPL 2020. While BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, had told this publication, that India will be the first choice venue to host the IPL, the discussion at Apex Council meeting leaned towards the UAE, considering the rising Covid-19 cases in India.

Apart from the reduced quarantine period, the BCCI also believes that the UAE, being a travel hub, is well connected. Medical facilities and previous experience of hosting the IPL may work in the UAE’s favour.

Ganguly though maintained that the BCCI doesn’t want the year 2020 to end without an IPL.

The BCCI is now targetting a shortened window of 5 to 6 weeks for IPL 2020. UAE, which had hosted the first leg of IPL in 2014, was zeroed in as the front runner as the BCCI expects the quarantine period in the wake of the pandemic to come down to a day or so during the window targetted for the IPL.

While several international sides have begun their training camps, the BCCI is yet to arrange one for its contracted players.

    Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Ganguly said the BCCI is hoping to have a training camp for India players in August-September.

“We tentatively, if at all the IPL happens in October, maybe August-September would the time where we can pull the players out and get together for 15 days. The Asia Cup has been cancelled. But the players have been training.”

    Training camp in Ahmedabad?

The subject of training camp for the contracted players also came up for discussion during the apex council meeting.

Dharamsala and Ahmedabad were discussed as two options where a bio-bubble can be created but Dharamsala was ruled out because of lack of accommodation.

Ahmedabad now seems to be the front runner for hosting the training camp if the BCCI conducts a training camp for the players. It was noted that players cannot train at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru because of the existing situation with regards to the pandemic.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to begin training camp for the Men in Blue, batsman Suresh Raina was recently seen enjoying a practice session with fellow teammate Piyush Chawla and Mohammad Shami.

Raina took to his official Twitter handle and posted a video of him hitting the nets with spinner Chawla and fast bowler Shami during the weekend.

“When you nailed your practice this week and ready to enjoy the weekend practice with none other than @MdShami11 & piyush Chawla. Keeping the momentum going!Good start to the weekend! Enjoy the little victories, Happy weekend!,”Raina wrote along with the video.

On a work front, Raina last represented the national side during an ODI series against England in July 2018.

Raina was scheduled to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020)–which was slated to take place from March 29 to May 24 but was postponed indefinitely by the BCCI due to coronavirus pandemic.

Suresh Raina Talk about Selectors’ Ignorance

After Yuvraj Singh, Indian batsman Suresh Raina has now criticized the national team selection process. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Raina said that the national selectors should have been more responsible in their treatment of the senior players.

“I think selectors should have taken more responsibility towards the senior players. No matter how big a player you are at the end of the day you always play for the team, you perform, you go home and if you don’t get to play the next morning, then you have to know the reason why I am not getting the batting on the net,” Raina was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak’s Senior Editor Vikrant Gupta.

“Tell me if I have any deficiency then I will work hard. Someone will have to tell me where to work hard. If he does not know, then there will be a doubt in his mind somewhere. When the cause is not known, how will he improve?” he added.

Suresh Raina talk about selectors’ ignorance, MS Dhoni’s future

Suresh Raina underwent knee surgery in August 2019 and is getting better day-by-day. He hasn’t played for team India since July 2018. However, the CSK batsman is yet to give up on his ambitions to play in blue colours.

“When you play Ranji Trophy no one comes there to watch the match. Then you wait for IPL because you get the chance to face world-class bowlers. And if you are getting paid by the IPL franchise, then you have to perform in every game. Pressure is very high in IPL. A T20 game is not easy but tough. There is not even time to think. If you get hurt during IPL, you don’t get recovery time.”

Raina also added that he has learned a lot from this experience and that if he ever becomes a selector in the future, he would make it a point to inform the player the reason for him being dropped.

Steve Bucknor Admits Two Mistakes in 2008 Sydney Test that Cost India the Game

    0

Former International cricket umpire Steve Bucknor admitted to ‘two mistakes’ in the controversial Sydney Test in 2008 between Australia and India that might have cost the visitors the game.

In a match which is remembered for its infamous for ‘monkey gate‘ spat between Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan Singh, Bucknor admitted that even though mistakes happen, those two errors have haunted him since then.

In an interview to Midday, Bucknor said: “I made two mistakes in the Sydney Test in 2008. Mistake one, which happened when India were doing well, allowed an Australian batsman to get a hundred. Mistake two, on day five, might have cost India the game. But still, they are two mistakes over five days. Was I the first umpire to make two mistakes in a Test? Still, those two mistakes seem to have haunted me.”

With no DRS back then, Bucknor remained unmoved when Symonds, batting on 30, edged a delivery from Ishant Sharma. The second mistake could be a reference to Rahul Dravid’s wicket on the last day of the Test with replays confirming the ball had flicked his front knee roll on the way.

“You need to know why mistakes are made,” Bucknor said. “You don’t want to make similar mistakes again. I am not giving excuses but there are times when the wind is blowing down the pitch and the sound travels with the wind. The commentators hear the nick from the stump mic but the umpires may not be sure. These are things spectators won’t know.”

As a result of the umpiring error, Bucknor was removed from officiating the third Test in Perth by ICC. Bucknor, however, had a glorious career and reflected on his journey. “I stood in only four Tests and three ODIs before that [1992 World Cup],” Bucknor recalled. “And I was the only umpire from the Caribbean at that World Cup.

So I didn’t know if I was good enough to be there. During the tournament, I was told I was doing very well. The captains had good things to say. My aim was to be among the six umpires for the semi-finals. I would have been happy to even be a reserve umpire. I stood in the New Zealand versus Pakistan semi-final in Auckland. And after the match I was told, ‘Bucknor, you’re doing the final.’

“I remember in 1996, West Indies versus Australia in the semi-final. I was in Delhi and I left my hotel room when Australia were 15 for 4. I went down to the lobby and told them to book my tickets to Jamaica. I then packed my bags and got ready to leave the next morning. That night, West Indies lost. I was sad because I wanted West Indies in the final. But personally, I was happy. Once the game was over, I was told, ‘Bucknor, first flight out to Pakistan for the final.”

New Zealand speedster Trent Boult on Monday gave the training session a miss on the second day of the camp at Bay Oval.

Boult was not feeling well and stayed away as a precaution. Senior Kiwi cricketer Ross Taylor stated that he is hopeful that the pacer would be fit to attend the third day of the camp scheduled to end on 24 July.

“I think he’s just tired from his eight overs bowling at us yesterday. Obviously, with what’s going around, you’ve got to be a bit smart around things like that. Hopefully, he’s fine and raring to go tomorrow,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Taylor as saying.

Notably, New Zealand Cricket is currently having a camp for cricketer from the national men’s and women’s teams based in North Island.

Earlier, New Zealand was declared coronavirus free and mostly all restrictions imposed to combat the virus were lifted in the country. There were reports that the country has offered to host the blockbuster Indian Premier League but there has not been any confirmation on the same.

New Zealand Women’s Team Resumes Training:

The players of the New Zealand women’s cricket team have returned to action for their first training camp in Lincoln on Monday after the coronavirus pandemic put the game to halt in March this year.

The official Twitter handle of the White Ferns posted two pictures from New Zealand’s first post-lockdown camp which is currently underway.

The White Ferns revealed that the players from the Wellington cricket team, Canterbury Cricket and Otago cricket team have attended the first camp, while the players from Auckland Cricket, Northern Districts cricket team and Central Districts cricket team will return to camp next week at Bay Oval.

Recently, all-rounder, Sophie Devine was appointed as the new captain of the New Zealand women’s cricket team on a full-time basis, while Amy Satterthwaite was named as her deputy.

Devine will take up the role of the full-time skipper of the New Zealand women’s team with this split-squad training camps, beginning in Lincoln next week.

The duo’s appointment came as the White Ferns look to prepare themselves for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2021 in New Zealand early next year.

IPL Updates: IPL 2020 Likely to Be Held from September 26 to November 8

    IPL 2020 updates
    IPL 2020

The 2020 editon of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has a tentative schedule but it is one that franchises and the BCCI’s broadcasting partner are yet to fully agree on.

According to a report in the Times of India, the BCCI has settled on September 26-November 8 as the tentative window for the IPL 2020. That would mean playing 60 games in 44 days.

However, franchises and broadcast partners Star have reservations about the schedule.

For their part, Star wants the tournament to be held a little later so that the final ends on Diwali (November 14) as as to generate maximum revenue with ads, particularly since the coronavirus pandemic has affected them financially.

For their part the BCCI are not keen on this schedule since the Indian cricket team have an important series away to Australia in December and the players will have to arrive in the country well before that date to undergo a period of quarantine.

“If the IPL concludes by November 8, the team can fly to Australia by the 10th, undergo Covid tests and start practice and warm-up matches so that the first Test can begin as scheduled,” a senior board official told TOI.

    IPL 2020 updates

“Also, India might want to play a day-night warm-up game ahead of the proposed day-night Test, and that will add days to the schedule,” the official added.

There remains little clarity on other aspects of the tournament as well. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has previously stated that they would like to host the tournament in India itself.

However, various reports state that UAE would be the likeliest destination for the tournament were it to go ahead.

UAE Favourites For Hosting IPL 2020:

The United Arab Emirates has emerged as the top contender to host India’s training camp along with Ahmedabad and Dharamsala being the other options discussed at the BCCI Apex Council meeting. With India’s COVID-19 caseload exceeding a million mark, UAE is favourite to host this edition of Indian Premier League which is scheduled to be held between end September and mid-November.

    Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Indian cricketers, who have not played since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, could well resume their training in Dubai, the likelihood of which will increase significantly if the UAE gets to host the cash-rich league.

The issue was discussed in the virtual Apex Council meeting on Friday but the final call will be taken by the IPL Governing Council.

“If the IPL is held in the UAE, then it only makes sense the Indian cricketers train there before the tournament. They have a good infrastructure in place. UAE is the most likely choice for the IPL with India getting increasingly unsafe (due to COVID-19),” a BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“The other likely options are training camp in either Dharamsala or Ahmedabad (at the renovated Motera Stadium) with a bio-bubble in place. But the cases continue to increase in India, so UAE will be the safest option,” the official added.

Besides UAE, Sri Lanka has also offered to host the IPL. The UAE partially staged the tournament in 2014 due to the general elections in India.

Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah Ruled Out of First England Test Due to Thumb Injury; Abid Ali Cleared of Concussion

Khushdil Shah ruled out of 1st Test against England

Pakistan’s cricket board (PCB) said all-rounder Khushdil Shah will miss the first Test against England with a fractured thumb but batsman Abid Ali is expected to return to training this week after being struck on the helmet while fielding on Sunday.

A 31-member Pakistan contingent, including 20 players, arrived at England as six out of their 10 corona virus-contaminated cricketers were kept down despite returning negative when tried the subsequent time.

Left-handed batsman Khushdil has been ruled out for up to three weeks after injuring his left thumb while batting during Saturday’s training session in Derby.

“As the nail is intact and there is no injury to nail bed, the orthopaedic surgeon, team physician and team physiotherapist expect Khushdil to resume physical training by the end of the next week,” the PCB said in a statement on Sunday.

Team mate Abid was struck on the helmet while fielding at forward short-leg during an intra-squad match on Sunday.

The PCB statement said that Abid has shown no signs of concussion but has undergone a precautionary CT scan which has also returned normal.

“Abid is absolutely fine and will be available to resume training on Wednesday following Tuesday’s rest day,” team doctor Sohail Saleem said.

“He underwent a precautionary CT scan which has also returned normal.”

Pakistan will play three Tests and as many T20Is. The opening Test begins at Old Trafford on 5 August.

    Harmanpreet Kaur highest score

On this day three years ago, Harmanpreet Kaur played a knock for the ages as India beat Australia in the Women’s World Cup semi-final at Derby.

Harmanpreet’s hard-hitting 171* helped India score 281-4 in the first innings. In response, Australia were bundled out for 245.

India were in a decent position when Harmanpreet came into bat; however, they needed one big innings to provide the imepetus and set the foundations for a big target.

Harmanpreet would go on to do both with startling ease, hitting the Aussie bowlers all around the park. Her knock consisted of 20 fours and 7 sixes and she scored a strike-rate of 148.69.

Scoreboard pressure was on Australia early and it showed. Openers Nicole Bolton (14) and Beth Mooney (1) departed cheaply. To make matters worse, skipper Meg Lanning was dismissed for a duck.

Ellyse Perry managed to score 38 but once she was dismissed, India sensed a chance at wrapping things up early.

Resistance eventually came in the form of Ellyse Villani (75) and Alex Blackwell (90) but Australia were losing wickets on a regular basis and the lack of big partnerships came back to haunt them.

Deepti Sharma (3-59) was the pick of the Indian bowlers. She was ably supported by Shikha Pandey (2-17) and Jhulan Goswami (2-35).

The knock was an eye-opener as well for fans who suddenly believed that India could actually do the unthinkable and bring home the trophy.

Harbhajan Singh Backs Himself to Succeed in Skill Test With Current Best Spinners From India

    0
    Harbhajan Singh

He entered the Indian dressing room as a gangly teenager and even after 22 seasons, 40-year-old Harbhajan Singh backs himself to come out on top in a one-on-one “skill” battle with the best spinners in the country.

“If you still want to test me by pitting me for a battle of skills against those youngsters you consider best in the business, please bring it on,” Harbhajan, who has a career T20 economy rate of under 7 with 235 wickets, told PTI in an interaction.

Age at one level is over-rated, feels the veteran of 103 Tests and 236 ODIs.

“You can talk about age if the ball while fielding goes between your legs or your knees are gone or you have done in the shoulder which is the reason you can’t give that force.

“But yes, I have been on the field wearing those India colours for at least 800 days (playing time). I have been an achiever who doesn’t need anyone’s sympathy. But yes, if it’s about skills, bring the best in India and I am still ready,” he said.

But can he be at his best from IPL to IPL without playing domestic cricket?

“To each his own. If someone feels he wants game time, good for him. If I bowl 2000 balls at the nets for a month, the amount of top-level cricket I have played, it’s good enough,” said Harbhajan, who turned 40 earlier this month.

Tell him that some of the boys who will play IPL this season like Ravi Bishnoi and Kartik Tyagi were born after he had made his Test debut, he starts laughing.

“It seems that you are trying to make me realise that I am too old but on a serious note if you see I started when Mohammed Azharuddin was the India captain. It has been a brilliant journey, full of ups and downs and I am grateful to God that I could live my dream for over two decades,” Harbhajan said.

“You always feel that you can achieve more but you should always be grateful for the opportunities you got to achieve what you wanted to – that is win matches for your country,” said the ‘Turbanator’, who feels that the COVID-19 induced lockdown has helped him get fitter like never before.

“What I couldn’t achieve for India? Well I would say, “shayad woh mere muqaddar mein thaa hi nahi par woh ek doosra nazariya hoga” (it was probably not in my destiny but that’s a different perspective).”

Looking back at his 22-year-old journey, Harbhajan said he treated every day like an exam.

“That every day was like an exam. A lot of papers went well and I got good marks and a few I didn’t do well as much as I would have liked.

“It was like a great leveller. When you played actively for India, you could never celebrate a good performance for days as there was another challenge right down the corner,” said the man with 711 international wickets across formats.

At times, he does miss the pressure of playing for India.

“It’s funny you know. When I used to play, there would be days when I wouldn’t like that insane pressure where you are feted one day and brought down to earth on another day after one bad match. I didn’t like it back then but now when I am not playing cricket regularly, I miss that pressure.

“Everyone will tell you that they love challenges but when in the middle of an every day grind, you start questioning yourself that why do I need to go through. But yes, sometimes, when I look back, there were a lot of days, I enjoyed that pressure that I have to win a match for India,” he said.

Will the 2020 edition be your last IPL?

“I can’t say whether this will be my last IPL. It depends on my body. After four months of workout, rest, yoga sessions, I feel reinvigorated just like 2013, when I had 24 wickets in that IPL edition,” said the man, who has 150 wickets from 160 IPL games in 12 seasons.

Picking Rohit Sharma’s Wicket Would Be a Dream Come True For Me: Naseem Shah

    Naseem Shah praised Rohit Sharma

Pakistan’s teenage bowling sensation Naseem Shah praised India opener Rohit Sharma, saying he has the ability to play all types of deliveries and getting his wicket would be a dream come true.

Naseem Shah, known for his raw pace, made his Test debut as a 16-year-old in Pakistan’s tour of Australia last year. He went on to pick up a 5-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in Karachi and picked up a hat-trick against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, thereby becoming the youngest bowler in Test cricket history to do so.

“Rohit Sharma has the ability to play all types of deliveries, be it short ones or good length deliveries. His records speak for itself and picking his wicket would be a dream come true for me,” Naseem Shah told Cricingif as quoted by the Pakistan Observer.

Shah also lauded Australia’s batting stalwart Steve Smith for his unorthodox batting technique and said that dismissing him would be a delight for Pakistan pacer.

“Steve Smith is very unorthodox in his batting technique and getting him out would be a delight for me. In the past, I have had the opportunity to bowl to him but picking his wicket would be a good experience, given his form,” Naseem Shah added.

During the conversation, Naseem Shah also revealed the names of 3 batsmen who would fill in his dream hat-trick.

Naseem Shah said that he would like to dismiss Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith and Joe Root on consecutive deliveries.

Currently, on an England tour, Naseem Shah will have an opportunity to dismiss Joe Root in the three-match Test series in England starting on August 5.

Australia Must Put Virat Kohli Under Pressure Early in The Series: Brett Lee

Former Australia speedster Brett Lee believes the Aussies will definitely be gunning for revenge when India travel Down Under for a mouth-watering Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. The four Tests of the series are currently scheduled to be played at Gabba, Adelaide Oval, MCG and the SCG respectively starting December 3.

The last time Virat Kohli and Co travelled to Australia, they got the better of the hosts 2-1 and became the first Indian team to win a Test series there. With batting heavyweights Steve Smith and David Warner back in the side this time, Lee feels Australia will be too hot to handle on home soil.

“To me, it’s one of the best series that you can look forward to. Australian will definitely want revenge but I know that India will come out and play their style of cricket which could definitely put Australia on the ropes. I personally think Australia will be too strong on home soil,” Lee told IANS.

Lee also had a word of advice to stop the juggernaut that is called Virat Kohli. The India skipper will once again be expected to have a huge say in the outcome of the series and according to Lee, if the Aussie bowlers are able to keep him under check from the word go, that could end up in rattling the superstar batsman.

Kohli finished as the third-highest run-getter on the 2018-19 tour but will be definitely eying the top spot this time, especially when his head-to-head battle will be against age-old rival Steve Smith, which wasn’t the case last time around.

“He is obviously a world-class player and Australia will have to make sure they’ve got clear concise plans to bowl to him. I think if they can put him under pressure early in the series that will allow maybe Australia to go on top of him,” Lee opined.

The big reason for India’s success on their last tour was the consistency shown by the bowlers. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah ended the series with 21 wickets, Mohammed Shami scalped 16 wickets while Ishant Sharma also did well with 11 scalps. Lee feels that Indian pacers these days don’t back down and are always up for the contest, regardless of the opposition or the conditions.

“I think with their height and agility they are able to bowl in all conditions, but it looked as though they are really up for the contest,” Lee said.

Bumrah has been an integral part of the Indian pace battery across formats for a while now. But the one concern that is usually raised with respect to him is his short bowling run-up. Former greats have time and again expressed concerns and stated it is difficult for Bumrah to remain injury-free with the super-fast pace that he generates with that small run-up.

“I think it’s a matter of him keeping strong and doing what works for him. Obviously, with a short run-up, it does put a lot of pressure on your body but at the moment it looks as though it’s working for him,” the former speedster said.

Lee, recently, announced his tie-up with SportsAdda — the one-stop-shop for everything cricket, football, and kabaddi. Commenting on the same, he said: “India is a vast nation with a great appetite for sports content, particularly cricket, football, and kabaddi. However, finding the right way to satiate that hunger is what I feel separates SportsAdda from the rest of the pack. They really seem to know how to best connect with the sports fan in pioneering ways with a voice that is not only informative and opinionated but witty and funny too.”

“In Brett, we not only have an athlete who has plied his trade at the highest level, but also one of the most passionate, smart and revered names in cricket,” Ashish Rana, spokesperson SportsAdda, said. “His commitment to excellence on the field is on par with ours in the digital world and together, we have some exciting stuff lined up for our fans that we cannot wait to reveal.”

    Dhoni New Look in lockdown

It’s been a long time since fans got a glimpse of MS Dhoni, with the former India captain limiting his public appearances, especially in the lockdown period.

Chennai Super Kings, though, came to the rescue of die-hard Dhoni fans with a short video where Dhoni made a rare appearance. Naturally, the video immediately went viral.

“The much-needed pawsitivity at 7! #Thala @msdhoni #WhistlePodu,” read the caption in the video uploaded by CSK.

Dhoni hasn’t played for India since the World Cup last year, where India exited in the semifinal. However, his manager and childhood friend Mihir Diwakar said Dhoni is not thinking of retirement yet.

“Being friends, we don’t talk about his cricket. But looking at him, he’s not all thinking about retirement,” he had said.

“He is very determined to play the IPL. He has worked really hard for this. If you remember he was there in Chennai one month in advance before everything was shut down.

“He has maintained his fitness regimen at his farmhouse and will start practice after the lockdown is lifted. Everything now depends on how fast the situation returns to normalcy.”

Dhoni turned 39 earlier this month on July 7. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said Dhoni was not just a great finisher but a great overall player.

“One of the great players in world cricket. Not just a finisher, I think everyone talks about the way he finishes lower down the order…he batted at No. 3 when I was captain. He got 140 against Pakistan in Vizag. I always believe that he should bat up the order because he is so destructive,” Ganguly told Mayank Agarwal in a video show for BCCI.

“You know the best player in the shorter format has the ability to hit boundaries at will. You look over a period of time, the history of one-day cricket…the best players can find the fence under pressure consistently and M.S. Dhoni was one of them.”

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said Dhoni would become the permanent ‘boss’ of CSK in 10 years.

“In 10 years from now, my feeling is that he’ll be a permanent fixture in Chennai as the Chennai Super Kings Boss,” he said.
