CSK’s training camp at the MA Chidambaram stadium will also be attended by three-time IPL-winning captain MS Dhoni, who underwent a coronavirus test like his teammates and tested negative.

Dhoni needed to undergo the Covid-19 test to fulfill the SOP set by the IPL Governing Council. He has been spending time at his farmhouse in Ranchi ever since the lockdown began in India in March.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is the only high-profile name who will miss CSK’s training camp while bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji is likely to be the only member of the coaching staff present.

The other members of the staff, including head coach Stephen Fleming and assistant coach Michael Hussey, are likely to join the squad in Dubai on August 22.

Jadeja will however be reaching Chennai in time to join his teammates on the flight to Dubai on August 21.

CSK chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan meanwhile, confirmed that they were hopeful that Lungi Ngidi and Faf du Plessis, both from South Africa, would reach the UAE after September 1. South Africa has currently sealed its borders to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

The only other South African player in the CSK franchise, Imran Tahir, will join the squad directly after taking part in the Caribbean Premier League that is scheduled to be played between August 18 and September 10 in Trinidad and Tobago.

“India’s Name Written On the Trophy In Advance” Former Pakistan Skipper Inzamam Recalls the Match Organised for BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration

    0
Hotel tariffs reach ₹ 1 Lakh on Ind-Pak match

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has portrayed an occurrence from 2004, where they played an ODI against India at Kolkata. It was the event of BCCI’s Platinum Jubilee festivities.

“India had invited Pakistan for the celebrations of platinum jubilee of BCCI. It was organized in a grand style. Former players from Pakistan were invited, politicians were also there.

Imran Khan was there. BCCI had invited all Indian captains. When the first innings ended, they made them take rounds of the ground in small batches,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.

    India set a mammoth Target:

India, in that match, had batted first and scored a mammoth 292/6. Where Virender Sehwag scored 53, while Yuvraj Singh was the superstar with 78 off 62 balls.

Inzamam uncovered that such a major objective had never been pursued at the Eden Gardens and the organizers had written India’s name on the trophy during the innings break itself.

“So there was a lot of pressure for that match. BCCI had arranged for a big trophy for the winners. India won the toss and batted first. They scored 292 for six. 293 was never chased before there. I remember they wrote India as the winners of the platinum jubilee cup. They were so confident because they had a very good team. India always had a good team. That score had never been chased there before so they were confident of winning. The celebrations began at lunchtime,” Inzamam said.

The Century that Changed the Game:

But a century by Salman Butt took them to the finish line comfortably.

“It was just one match so the pressure was much more. The second big pressure was of Imran Khan, who was watching the match from our dressing room.

I have played under Imran Bhai. He had kind of taken over captaincy. Salman Butt was batting with me. He suffered cramps. So a teammate came running in with a message.

I thought I’m the captain who is sending me messages. He told me that Imran Bhai has said Salman Butt is having trouble with his hamstring. Tell him to retire hurt, take treatment, and then go back onto the field. I sent Salman back. He came back and scored a hundred.”

India vs Pakistan BCCI Platinum Jubilee Match 2004

“I remember Younis Khan who was our best at that moment had got out for a duck in the chase. Shoaib Malik and Salman Butt put together a good partnership and then I walked in when Malik got out.

I took time in the beginning, couldn’t score freely in the first 30-40 balls but gradually upped by scoring rate. Salman at the other end was playing really well. He scored a hundred,” recalled the former Pakistan captain.

“In Calcutta 1 lakh people watch the match. They make a lot of noise for their home side. 15-20 thousand had come to watch us practice a couple of days before the match,” he added.

Karun Nair Recovers Completely After Testing Positive for COVID-19

    0
Karun Nair Recovers from Corona virus

India and Kings XI Punjab batsman Karun Nair had tested positive for COVID-19 recently but has now completely recovered, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.

Nair tested negative on August 8 and will undergo three further tests before flying to UAE with the KXIP side.

Nair is the first IPL player to have contracted the virus. On Wednesday, the Rajasthan Royals management announced that their fielding coach, Dishant Yagnik, had tested positive for the virus.

Recently, KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia had called for regular testing of players in the IPL, saying even one positive case can kill the tournament.

“We are very concerned about the safety of the players and all others involved. Even if there is one case, the IPL could be doomed,” he had said.

The IPL governing council then laid out stringent protocols including multiple tests and week-long quarantines for players after reaching UAE.

Nair has played 69 IPL matches, scoring 1464 runs at a strike rate of 128.53. He has represented KXIP since IPL 2018.

Nair is also the first high profile Indian cricketer to have tested positive. The Karnataka player has played six Tests and two One-Day Internationals for India, scoring 374 runs. He has also made a triple-century in the Chennai Test against England in 2016, making him only the second Indian batsman to achieve the feat.

The IPL, which has been shifted to UAE due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in India, will begin on September 19 and run till November 10.

IPL to Play in BioSecure Environment:

The BCCI has sent an exhaustive 16-page SOP to teams for the smooth conduct of the tournament. It requires players, support staff, team officials, and owners to be part of a bio-secure environment.

Wadia himself has not decided on traveling to the UAE for the IPL but said safety can’t be compromised.

“We have to adjust and acclimatize to the (bio-secure) environment. One case could kill the IPL. Extraneous circumstances require ordinary people to do extraordinary things,” he added.

CSK Chief Executive Viswanathan States “THIS” Reason for Ravindra Jadeja’s Absent For Chennai Training Camp

    0
Reason for Jadeja not attending CSK Training camp

Ravindra Jadeja won’t be a piece of Chennai Super Kings’ six-day IPL molding camp, which is scheduled between August 15 and 20 in Chennai. The allrounder is the main player’s name missing from the camp for Indian players and will feature skipper MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu among others.

Jaddu Won’t Be a Part in Chennai Training Camp:

“He has personal commitments,” Kasi Viswanathan, the Super Kings chief executive officer said, explaining Jadeja’s absence. But Jadeja will reach Chennai in time to board the flight to Dubai on August 21. The camp will focus on fitness primarily, along with some cricket training too.

Viswanathan said the Tamil Nadu government had allowed kept in touch with the Super Kings to lead the camp at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, behind closed doors. Bowling trainer L Balaji will be the main individual from the coaching staff present at the camp.

Reason for IPL franchise to pack exclusive net bowlers

Head trainer Stephen Fleming and collaborator mentor Michael Hussey, are probably going to join the crew in Dubai by August 22 Viswanathan stated.

CSK Hopes South African Players Would Join the Clan Soon:

Viswanathan said the Super Kings were “hopeful” Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi, two of the three South Africans in the crew, would arrive at the UAE after September 1. As of now, South Africa has shut its fringes as a measure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and nobody can go all through the nation without government authorization.

“When we spoke to Faf and Ngidi they said yes, we are coming. They have said that they will only be coming after September 1,” Viswanathan said. It is not clear whether both players would be part of the group of South African players participating in the IPL and take a charter flight.

The third South African player, Imran Tahir, will join the crew after completing in the Caribbean Premier League in Trinidad.

Viswanathan also said the South African backroom pair of Eric Simons (bowling consultant) and Greg King (physical trainer) would join the squad in Dubai on August 21.

backup venues for 2021 T20 World cup if India fails to host

With increasing in coronavirus positive cases the cricket makes its way back by playing behind closed doors in the bio-secure bubble. Earlier ICC postponed T20 World Cup which scheduled to play in Australia this year(2020) and gave rights to India to host the 2021 T20 World Cup.

Where Australia again hosts the T20 World Cup for the year of 2022 followed by 50 overs World Cup scheduled to play in India with a new ODI super league to determine qualifiers For 2023 WC.

2021 T20 World Cup Backup Venues:

With COVID-19 situation evolving every day around the world, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been kept among the back-up venues for the 2021 T20 World Cup should India fail to curb the spread of the dreaded virus in the country.

    ICC T20 World cup trophy

While locking on back-up venues has been a standard practice for every ICC Event, the situation around the virus makes it significant this time around.
As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Sri Lanka and UAE have been kept among the back-ups for the showpiece event in 2021 in case India fails to flatten the curve by then. India is currently the third-worst hit country in the world in terms of positive cases with over 2 million cases and 45,000 deaths.

BCCI Hosts Two Major Events in 2023:

As the COVID-19 positive reports keep increasing in India, BCCI moves the showpiece event of the year 2020 to UAE. After ICC’s announcement of the T20 World Cup 2020, BCCI took the decision of hosting the 13th edition of IPL in UAE.
The BCCI has maintained that it doesn’t want to host three big tournaments including 2023 IPL and World Cup back-to-back and came to a consensus about hosting the 2021 T20 World Cup in the ICC Board meeting. However, the recent outbreak of coronavirus in Australia played a part in Cricket Australia agreeing to host the T20 World Cup in 2022.

Race for IPL 2020 Title Sponsor Heats Up After Vivo Exit – Amazon and Dream11 Are Potentially Onboard

    0
Updates on IPL 2020 Tittle Sponsor

Since the IPL 2020 re-scheduled to UAE the race for title sponsorship for the league is getting serious. Vivo is exiting from the title sponsor after 2 profitable years with the Indian Premier League. It was started in 2018 when Vivo came into contract with BCCI for 5 years.

But due to unwanted issues and public clashes from both sides, it is ended in 2020. The Chinese company Vivo was under the radar of objections and criticisms from the past few months. It could be the reason for delaying the IPL 2020 new schedule for UAE.

In the middle of ragging pandemic, BCCI has opened doors for the new sponsors and set the bar high to 300CR financial revenue. The IPL’s strength will be decided in the next few days because the race of sponsorship is starting from 14 August.

BCCI has changed the official partners from three to five and set the average commitment of 40CR for each sponsor. However, it is a tough task to raise 300CR in a short time after the sudden exit of VIVO.

On Monday 10 August BCCI released a formal tender notice to the interesting parties as an expression of interest (EOI) for the title sponsor. The tender is open for companies having at least 300CR revenue and the date of application is 14 August. BCCI will announce the final sponsors on 18 August and giving a seven-day window to respond.

Vivo’s exit left a huge deficit in the sponsorship market and no one knows if the Five new sponsors could fill the gap or not. Moreover, it is the time for India to show the world that Indian Cricket can sustain despite the pandemic.

The gossips high on the roof about the involvement of Amazon and Dream11 for the race of Title Sponsor. However, the sponsorship is for a four-month window only. But it is a Win-Win situation for India and Sponsors also.

Industry sources also said that BCCI has received a non-official chatter from E-learning APP Unacaemy and credit card company Cred to join the Sponsorship. Byju, Ecom Giant Amazon, and sports fantasy platform Dream11 continue to be the race.

The beverage making company Coca-Cola also talked about the issue to spice up the game. They are also waiting and looking up for the right time to place their bid.

“We are currently observing how the market situation is evolving and we are evaluating the opportunities that are available. As a company policy, we cannot comment on any speculation,” said a spokesperson from Coca-Cola India.

Pandemic Rage changed the financial strategies for each business. The potential candidates are playing the cards very carefully to reap up the maximum benefits out of the deal.

Chennai Super Kings Confident of Having MS Dhoni As Captain Till IPL 2022

    0

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings are keen to have their captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni until at least the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league, the team’s chief executive informed. Dhoni, however, will turn 41 during that time.

The former Indian captain, Dhoni, has not played professional cricket since India’s semi-final exit against New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2019 in England.

But he is all set to return to the cricket field when he will be leading CSK in the delayed IPL in the United Arab Emirates, starting from next month.

Even though Dhoni’s comeback to the national team remains under doubt after this year’s T20 World Cup was also postponed, the wicketkeeper-batsman remains an influential figure in Indian cricket and has personally dropped no hint of retiring from international cricket.

MS Dhoni Will Continue As Captain Atleast Till 2021:

CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan, though, is confident of getting Dhoni’s service for another two years in IPL.

“We don’t worry about him at all. Yes, we can expect MS Dhoni to be part of both (IPL seasons in 2020 and 2021) and probably for even the next year, 2022,” Viswanathan told India Today television late Tuesday.

Dhoni, who has led CSK to IPL glory on three occasions, and remains the only player to have captained the yellow team since the inception of the tournament in 2008.

Viswanathan further said that he is aware of how Dhoni has been training in indoor nets in Ranchi.

Viswanathan said he had only seen media reports that Dhoni has been training in indoor nets in his home state of Jharkhand.

“But we don’t have to worry about the skipper,” he said. “He knows his responsibilities and he will take care of himself and the team.”

The CSK players are due to arrive in Chennai this week before leaving next week for Dubai where the IPL will start on September 19 after being moved because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Postponed The Inaugural Edition of The Lanka Premier League

    0

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has postponed the debut release of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) to the month of November 2020. Similar to the Indian Premier League(IPL) Sri Lanka planned to host their domestic league under the name of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) this year(2020).

Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the well-settled IPL too faces lots of hurdles and finally decides to host in UAE after nearly five months away from its actual date of hosting in March.

There were five teams planned to play the competition named after the urban communities of Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Dambulla, and Jaffna and supposed to play 23 games.

The matches were scheduled to start on August 28, subject to endorsement from the administration and Ministry of health however the 14-day necessary isolate period ended up being an issue with regards to foreign players.

The 14 days isolation which is a must for the passengers onboarding to other countries faces the problem. IPL 2020 which scheduled to play in UAE follows a strict bio-secure with lots of changes in timing as well.

The tournament will see matches starting from 7:30 PM IST and will also witness 10 doubleheaders.

“The said decision was taken by SLC in consideration of the health guidelines stipulated by the Ministry of Health subsequent to the meeting held with the Health Ministry Authorities,” the board issued a statement on its website.

“We had a discussion with the health authorities and the 14 day quarantine period for anyone entering the country is compulsory. So it’s difficult to play the tournament at the end of August”, Newswire quoted Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva as saying.

“We will play the tournament in mid-November after IPL” he added.

All the matches were supposed to end on September 20. Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is slated to be held in UAE from September 19 to November 10.

Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders To Travel UAE With 10 Exclusive Net Bowlers

    0
Harbhajan Singh Likely to miss IPL 2020

The Indian Premier League moving its base to the United Arab Emirates for the 2020 version may end up being a surprisingly beneficial turn of events for in any event 50 unheralded cricketers, who are set to go with the eight groups as “exclusive” net bowlers.

The franchises all these years have been using local bowlers for nets apart from the junior fringe players but the strict bio-security measures for the tournament mean that all franchise will have to arrange for quality bowlers during practice sessions.

While BCCI has capped the squad strength (players) to 24, the franchises have not been specified contingent volume which will vary from team to team but it could be safely assumed that most of the eight sides will not avail any local net bowlers.

Teams including Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals affirmed that they are setting up a program of net bowlers. The rundown involves for the most part top of the line, U-19 and U-23 state level cricketers who will get the opportunity to bowl to likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Rishabh Pant for near a month.

“If all goes well, we are planning to take around 10 bowlers exclusively to UAE for the practice sessions. They will be accompanying the team and will remain till the tournament starts,” Chennai Super Kings CEO Kashi Vishwanathan told PTI on Tuesday.

KKR Too Planned to Pack 10 Selective Bowlers:

The Kolkata Knight Riders also confirmed that they will also have 10 net bowlers in their roster, likely to be handpicked by former Mumbai captain and their academy coach Abhishek Nayar.

“It will be a blend of players of who have played Ranji Trophy while some of having played U-23 and U-19 national level tournaments,” someone who is privy to developments in the KKR camp informed.

The Delhi Capitals are also taking around six net bowlers who will be a part of the team’s “bio bubble”.

“They will be staying with the squad and will travel with the team for the net sessions,” a franchise source said.

The Rajasthan Royals are also on course to finalize the number of net bowlers they will carry. Royals as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore can fly out bowlers from their own respective academies.

“Someone like former India U-19 Aditya Thackeray could gain a lot if RCB decides to take him for net sessions where he can bowl to a Virat Kohli. Aditya is a part of the RCB developmental squad,” a senior talent scout of a franchise said.

It is expected that there will be a healthy number of spinners in the overall net bowlers’ list.

“On slow Dubai tracks, it will be important that teams stack up their line-up with more spinners, especially for humid conditions. You will see a lot of left-arm spinners and wrist spinners who have played a decent level cricket being included apart from the pacers,” the talent scout said.

MS Dhoni ‘just doesn’t age’ Says Chennai Super Kings Batsman Shane Watson

    Shane Watson and MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings batsman Shane Watson said his captain MS Dhoni ‘just doesn’t age’ and can proceed to play into his 40s.

Dhoni, who turned 39 recently, last played professional cricket in the World Cup 2019. He will turn out for CSK in the IPL which is set to start on September 19 in UAE.

“MS still loves playing. He is an evergreen cricketer and it feels like he just doesn’t age. Look, with the kind of skills he has and the hard yards he puts in, MS can go on and play into his 40s,” Watson told Times of India.

“MS has been able to manage his body well. The way he is able to run consistently and showcase skills behind the stumps is just incredible. I am a big fan of MS and would want to see him continue playing whether it’s for CSK or internationally.”

Watson said CSK’s chances of doing well in the IPL are high and explained that the slow pitches will suit their team.

“CSK’s chances are as good as all the other teams. Our team’s biggest plus has been the presence of experienced players and some exciting younger players. We have a terrific side led by MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming. With the kind of balance that our side possesses, I see no reason why we can’t have a terrific season ahead,” he said.

“The pitches are going to be on the slower side. We have some high-quality spinners in our side and we should be able to capitalize.”

    Watson Recalls 2019 IPL Finals:

CSK had a heartbreak in the IPL final of 2019, losing to Mumbai Indians by one run. Watson, who starred with a half-century before being run out in the final over of that game, said it’s important to start afresh.

“It’s always shattering to come this close to winning the tournament as we did in the final against Mumbai Indians last year. MI was one of the dominant teams in 2019, and for us, to have come this close was a terrific effort. There were so many positives for us from the last season and we will look to take that and start afresh this year,” he said.
