India Loses its Core players in the Test series:Says Ravi Shastri

    Eye for Eye

After an “eye for eye” whitewash series against New Zealand, India set to play two test matches. India whitewashed New Zealand in T20I(0-5) for which New Zealand whitewashed India in ODI(3-0) format.

Ravi Shastri on speaking to TOI from Hamilton,”We need 100 points to be in contention to play at Lord’s (in the World Test Championship final). Two overseas wins out of six Tests will keep us in good stead. We play six Tests overseas this year (two in NZ and four in Australia). So, that’s one objective. The other is to play like the world’s No. 1 Test team – because that’s what this team believes in more than anything else. On the Test front, that’s what we’re looking at.”

    Sky remains the limit

Ravi Shastri(Head coach of India) is excited to drag in some new faces and makes themselves count. Prithvi Shaw who returned to test match is expected to perform better to lock his position in the squad. Shubman Gill is expected to debut in the first test match at Hamilton. He also added “Both are supremely exciting talents. Regardless of who gets into the XI in Wellington, the fact of the matter is they’re here, part of India’s national squad, and from here on they should know that the sky remains the limit”.

When Shastri speak about Shubman Gill he says that Gill has been watching closely for the past two years by him along with the Indian captain Kohli and other senior members. “He’s phenomenally talented. His approach to batting is very clear and he exhibits a very positive mindset. That’s very exciting for a boy who’s just 20 going on 21,” says Shastri.

Either Shubman or Prithvi one will get into crease as opener along with Mayank Agarwal,  he added “They’re all from the same school, you know. They love facing the new ball, enjoy a challenge. Rohit is unfortunately out (with a calf muscle injury) so that puts Shubman and Prithvi in contention to open with Mayank. That competition is necessary and that’s what makes a bunch of 15 look strong and stable”.

    Prithvi Shaw and Agarwal
    Prithvi Shaw and Agarwal

    Team lose its core

When the topic move towards the ruled out players as Rohit Sharma is out of New Zealand tour due to his calf muscle injury. Also the absent of Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma cause a heavy levy as his team lose its core players. “Around four to five of our core are missing. Bhuvi could’ve been extremely useful in the conditions here, but never mind. That’s why I said, having options available are always in the best interests of the team,” says the head coach.

The responsibility has been loaded upon  Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as Ishant Sharma is not back with full fitness meanwhile Bhuvneshwar has not been fully recovered from injury. “That’s precisely how they’ve been managing their workload right now. The T20s were important because that’s the format that’s important this year and the next (because of the T20 World Cups). Test cricket is always paramount. We can only hope the rest of the boys return fully fit at the earliest,” he added.

According to Shastri “That 5-0 win could’ve been 3-2, 4-1. As we might acknowledge, the eventual result is what counts. The series was ours no doubt but the 5-0 sweep was like an icing. Now, the thing is how convincingly we can pull off matches like that. Bilaterals are the perfect space to try new things, mix things up, get in some new faces. That’s what we’ve been doing. Around four to five guys in the team right now are less than 22 years of age. It’s up to them how they take advantage of these opportunities coming their way.”

    Shastri on KL Rahul

He also mentioned about KL Rahul who execute a glorious performance in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand.“It’s almost like he finds himself all the more involved because of the added responsibility. He’s in a great space and some rest will do him a world of good,” said Shastri.

“Hanuma Vihari” the New Opener for India in Test Matches?

    0
    Vihari
Vihari saved India in practice test match against New Zealand

    India’s top order failed

In the ongoing 1st practice test match between New Zealand and India at Hamilton, India started batting in first innings. Where the opener Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal return to pavilion without performing as expected. As India is in the number one position in test matches the performance from this duo scatters everyone belief. Prithvi Shaw lose his wicket when India not even scored a single run, followed by Agarwal(1) and the most expected Shubman Gill also lost his wicket in the very first ball.

Ajinkya Rahane return to pavilion when he scored just 18 off 30 balls, India now lose 4 wickets from scoring 38 runs in total. India now need a quick comeback from losing the wicket which is provided by the Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara.  This duo involved in 195 run stand off and provoked India from sinking. Pujara gone for 93 and Vihari who made a ton in the practice match return pavilion(retd out) for 101. After his wicket India got cleaned for 263 runs.

    Idea of opening

Vihari made an impressive performance and proved his presence that guides India towards a descent score. He comes up with an idea of opening the innings in the upcoming Tests against New Zealand, although he’s “not been informed anything” by the team management.

Vihari states : “You have to understand what shots to avoid on these pitches – initially at least,” Vihari said. “Then if you can control it in your mind then I feel it’s not so difficult to adjust. But once you have a certain gameplan and if you can stick to it, then I feel it’s easy enough to adjust.

“In international level, you have to be thinking on your feet. And I was quick enough to adjust my games according to the conditions so whenever I bat next, New Zealand or Australia, wherever it is, it is up to me what I want to do with my game and how quickly I adjust and I’m happy that I could do it.”

“Sometimes you have to understand the team combination as well,” Vihari explained. “You can’t get disheartened by it. I understood as well when you are playing at home, we play 5 bowlers. It’s obvious that one batter has to miss out. So I took it in my stride. And I thought when I bat next for my team, I’ll just go out there and follow my process and not try too much or not try to prove anyone but do my basics right and stick to my processes.”

    Versatile Vihari

He also opened for India before, at the MCG in 2018 after their regular openers went into a rut. In the last year’s West Indies tour he scored one hundred and two fifties in four innings. So Vihari can play in his own game or as per the team’s needs.

“We experienced that against New Zealand A as well. When the wicket flattens out, they try to experiment with the short balls and I’m sure even Neil Wagner will come up with the same ploy., We’ve seen it before in the Australian series and the home series for them. We are prepared for it. We’ve got that good experience in India A as well. They did come up with short balls when we played against New Zealand A. Today as well they bowled quite a number of short balls. It’s good exposure for us,” Vihari said.

Healy had a stellar 2019 and won the top awards for both ODIs and T20Is in the Australian Cricket Awards earlier this week. Australia captain Meg Lanning has backed star opener Alyssa Healy to put behind poor form and come good at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020.

In the Australia women’s tri-series Healy failed to show off her performance. Though Australia won the trophy by beating India in finals Healy just scored 15 runs in five matches. In the tri-series against India and England, she returns pavilion with a sequence of 9, 1, 0, 1 and 4.

    Lanning’s beleif

Despite of her poor performance Lanning believes that Healy would come back to World cup in perfect form. Lanning states “It hasn’t been ideal for Midge [Healy], but I along with the rest of the team are half expecting her to come out and whack it around in the first World Cup game”.

“I’m sure every bowler in the world is nervous about bowling to her because she’s definitely due. She’s fine, you go through patches in your career where you don’t make runs, and she takes the game on for us, so she’s going to take risks and sometimes that doesn’t come off.

“I’ve got full confidence she’ll play a big role for us in the World Cup and if it’s not her day, then it’s got to be someone else’s, we can’t rely on one player to win it for us. Midge’ll come around really quickly, she’s got a good attitude and she’s ‘keeping really well, which is great for the side, so we’re not too worried.”

Chance to shake off the rust

Before the initial match against India on 21st February in World cup Australia plays two warm-up games against West Indies in Brisbane and South Africa in Adelaide. Which have a chance to Healy to show her performance and make a come back in perfect form in World cup.

    England’s 200

Roy and Buttler are at the crease Roy who aggressively played in 1st T20I set in strike who smashed a six in the first over from Fortuin. Ngidi in his first over uproot the Buttler’s wicket with his length ball that’s a good start from South Africa. But the dangerous man ROY is still in strike who joins hands with Jonny Bairstow. This duo added 52 runs for the second wicket down. Bairstow got bowled out for 35 from 17 that includes 2×4 3×6.

    Moeen’s play

Roy lost his wicket to Shamsi and walked back to dressing room when he is 10 runs away for the half century. After Jason Roy’s wicket England struggled to make a partnership and lose wickets sequentially. All rounder Ben Strokes joins with Moeen Ali and sums up 50 runs for the next wicket where England scored 176 when Moeen Ali lose his wicket for 39 from 11 delivery. Stroke played aggressively and added 15 runs in Nigid’s last over. Thus England ended up with 204 runs in the allotted over.

    De Kock’s aggressive strike

To win the match and to lead the series South Africa need to chase down the 204 target. With a surprise Bavuma to take strike against Moeen, with the captain at the non-striker’s end. Both played aggressively and scored 69 runs at the end of the power play. Bavuma retains his wicket through DRS when umpire signaled him out in Adil Rashid’s over. De Kock remains unstoppable and scored aggressively until he lose his wicket to Mark Wood. South Africa are left in the cold, High and dry an incredible knock by him. He deserved to be on the winning side today he scored 65 runs in 22 balls [4s-2 6s-8]. He script his name in top of the list of fastest fifty for South Africa in T20I’s.

    Jordan’s back to back wickets

South Africa starts losing wicket after their captain’s knock when all rounder Ben Stokes (right-arm fast medium) comes into the attack. As expected with a low full-toss outside off, he picked Miller’s wicket and left South Africa to concern. Though South Africa remains in safe side everything got upside down when Jordan plucked back to back wickets in 16th over. With a continuous yorker Jordan uproot the Smuts(13) and Phehlukwayo who gone for duck. In 17th over when Mark Wood released 19 runs added benefits for South Africa. Here comes the last over where South Africa is in need of 15 runs, Tom Curran in attack.

    Tom Curran the Saviour

When Pretorius strike a six and four in back to back ball South Africa move close towards  the victory. But everything scatters when Tom Curran uprrot the Pretorius’s wicket, where there is still hope as only three required from the last ball. But Curran took the last ball as slower ball down leg and claimed the Fortuin wicket and saved England from the series loss. Tom Curran’s unbelievable bowling strategy make England to win by 2 runs and kept alive in the series.

    1 run v SA, Jo’burg 2009
    2 runs v NZ, Hamilton 2018
    2 runs v SA, Durban 2020*

    Captain’s view

Quinton de Kock | South Africa : Great cricket played by both teams. They came out and fought till the end. They bowled really well at the death. I am sure the bowlers will come out and do better next time. Rassie thrives in such situations. He handled the pressure really well and happy for him. Disappointed that we didn’t get over the line.

Eoin Morgan | England captain : We would have liked to win both but we came out on the winning side today. The level of intensity was a considerable improvement in today’s game compared to East London. South Africa had the better of the batting conditions, the ball was skidding on, and our bowlers came up trumps. Quinny played extremely well, and the bowling performance was extremely good. Moeen was the standout with the bat, it was a match-winning innings looking at the way SA played and the way things turned out in the end. Jordan is one of our more experienced bowlers. He’s very calm and delivers when it matters, so he’s one you really want in your side. It’s a tough ground to bowl on and the wicket’s really good. About Tom Curran, it takes courage to bowl a gamble ball like the one out of the back of the hand, and a good catch by Rashid. This sets it up really well for the third game on Sunday.

    Player of the match

    Moeen Ali(England)

    Batting : 39 from 11 balls(3×4,4×6)

Was nice to go out and middle a few. Tried to put pressure back on the bowlers. We bat deep and that helps. It has been a reason why he have been successful over the years. When you are playing well, you need to keep it simple. Was glad to contribute to an England win.

When Jaiswal came back from South Africa he found trophy was lying in the table as broken into two pieces. The 18 year old Jaiswal was not upset on seeing the broken trophy which the most player would preserve for the entire life. Jaiswal’s coach Jwala Singh stated that the teenager doesn’t care about trophies and his main objective is to only score runs.

Jaiswal’s coach said : “This isn’t the first time! He cares more about runs, doesn’t fuss too much about trophies”.

Jaiswal said : “I played a bad shot, it wasn’t needed at that time. The ball came much faster than I expected. I had got a slower ball just before that,” he added “I was a bit nervous and he told me that I am doing well, and just take time in the middle. But it didn’t go our way. Nothing has changed for me, of course, it would have been great if we had won it but it’s not the end of the world”.

    New Partner- Muthoot Fincorp

The famous photo sharing platform Instagram shows ‘nil’ posts as they have deleted photos in that. This calamity day comes after they signed Muthoot Fincorp as their title sponsor for IPL 2020. RCB on Tuesday announced a three-year partnership with Muthoot Fincorp Ltd, a part of the Muthoot Pappachan Group, popularly known as Muthoot Blue.

    Excitement for change!

As the name from “Royal Challengers Banglore” to “Royal Challengers” in social medias it seems they initially start with a name change. This creates a hype on RCB even before the IPL starts. A statement had said : As per the partnership, there will be a “jersey-front” logo placement, which will be prominent on the playing and training jersey, in-stadium integration at home matches, digital and other highly visible media platforms.

Lungi Ngidi in his short international career, which has just turned two years old. He has already recoved from a stress fracture, a side strain and a slew of hamstring niggles, the latest of which kept him out of this summer’s Test series against England.

Previously in 3rd ODI, after his first five over which costs 52 runs, he came up with a final spell of 3 for 11 runs in four overs. In the first T20I against England at Buffalo park he scatters England batsmen hope by picking three wickets in the last over and paved the way for victory. He proved his ability to play in big moments by a death bowling spell that costs England three wickets in 1st ODI.

Ngidi(Player of the match) said : “It wasn’t a great day at Johannesburg, but here it’s not over until the last ball is bowled. Run in hard as you can. hit your length, and all of a sudden their team was on the back foot. Very fast-paced game, but it’s about how you bounce back. I didn’t panic under pressure, they seemed to be cruising but my job was to get wickets.”

     Ngidi credited Langeveldt

He credited Langeveldt for his mental strength,”He has had a massive impact in terms of the mental side having watched him and the way he used to bowl, he has given me a lot of confidence as a young player, knowing someone like that is now on my journey. He has made sure I back the skills that I am good at. Something like that on the back end, where maybe someone would say maybe a change of ball was needed or maybe a yorker, stick to what’s working and it worked out just well.”

    Ngidi’s yorker at best

When he bowled out Moeen Ali with an yorker in the last one where an LBW missed in the previous ball made an positive impact for South Africa. England lost 7 wickets for 44 runs in just 5.4 overs, where Hendricks who had chance to bowl in the 15th over started to build pressure before Ngidi.

He added : “We know that there are a lot of fast bowlers fighting for a spot so you’ve got to be on your A game, If you’re not quite there, someone else is going to come in and do the job you’re supposed to be doing. I don’t plan on letting anyone take my spot so I am just going to keep playing as best as I can.”

South Africa vs England 1st T20I in East London, where England lose the victory in a close call. England won the toss and decide to bowl, South Africa struggled at first after losing de Kock wicket. But Bavuma and Dussen paired and provided a much needed partnership and sums up 63 runs for the second wicket. Bavuma missed a half century by seven runs and return to pavilion when he scored 43 runs off 27 balls. Jordan took three wickets in last over but missed a hat-trick.

    England’s messy performance

England get down to the ground with a target of 178 to chase. Steyn, who returned to game after eleven months took Jos Buttler’s wicket and gains the position of leading wicket taker for South Africa in T20I formats.

England’s Jason Roy remains unstoppable from scoring and it seems everything under control. Jason Roy scored 22 runs in Smuts over and starts brutalising South African bowlers who had been deceived by a slower ball bouncer from Hendricks.

Both Morgan and Tom Curran were caught on the boundary needlessly. Lungi Ngidi’s final over was impressive but England’s failure to get over the line was more down to batsmen error than bowler induced. Pressure made the England batsmen to deviate from focusing in game, as they were in a need of only 7 from the last over.

In truth, things had started to go wrong earlier than the last seven deliveries. The confusion and poor game management of the middle order dogged the entire final third of England’s innings. The approach suggested a lack of clarity in what batsman were trying to do either to get a single or to for a big shots. when Moeen finally did get on strike, he advanced down the wicket and yorked himself and that added benefits for South Africa. Finally Ngidi controls the England from scoring and seized the victory with a difference of single run. This makes England to move up in their list of nearest margin defeat and also makes third against South Africa.

Eoin Morgan | England captain: Outstanding game of cricket. Experiences like these are valuable with a World Cup around the corner. Both teams left everything on the field. Losing a game by one run, you can try and make it up at some point, somewhere along the line. We didn’t take advantage of being in a commanding position. Ngidi really changed the game. Hopefully we will learn more and head to Durban on a positive note. He (Roy) is probably one of the top three batsmen in white-ball cricket we have ever produced. With the experience I have, I should have seen it through, and I’ll continue to use the method that I use, and hopefully win England more games. We’re learning a HUGE amount from each other and it’s been a very enjoyable experience in the dressing room.

Morgan told Sky Sports : “Even in a position of needing seven off the last over, with new guys coming in, we expected to win that game. But it’s a great game to play in because you get a feel for where guys are at, what skill level they can produce, and how their temperament is. So in terms of actually improving, I think it’s great for us.”

After all, it is the main area of concern for Morgan as he looks ahead to the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year
