The out break of deadly corona virus made a huge impact globally and postponed many major events. As corona virus spreads rapidly the Indian government advice and even force peoples to stay isolate in order to avoid the social spreading. Regarding the Indian government’s advice many celebrities tweet the importance of the social distancing. BCCI postponed the Indian Premier League due to the same.
Sachin regards Social distancing
Indian former player Sachin Tendulkar made his tweet regarding the awareness of social spreading. Tendulkar backed PM Narendra Modi’s decision of a nationwide lockdown for the next 21 days to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus pandemic. Addressing the nation on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide lockdown in the country which will go on till April 15, 2020. Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “Simple things are often the hardest to do, because they require consistent discipline and determination. Hon’ble PM @narendramodi ji has asked us to #StayHomeAndStaySafe for 21 days. This simple task can save millions of lives. Let’s all unite in this war against #COVID19”.
Simple things are often the hardest to do, because they require consistent discipline & determination.
From Virat Kohli to Ravichandran Ashwin, many cricketers took to social media to back PM Modi’s move in the battle against coronavirus. Prior to this, PM Modi had announced a “janta curfew” on Sunday (March 22) as a measure to safeguard Indian citizens from the coronavirus threat.
Road Safety Champion Series
Sachin Tendulkar made his return to field through the Road Safety Champion Series, which has been called off due to the corona impact. In his first match, Tendulkar turned the clock back scoring 36 runs. The batting legend struck seven boundaries during his stay at the crease. He opened the innings with Sehwag as the two scored 83 runs for the first wicket partnership which helped India Legends beat the West Indies legend.
Due to the out break of corona virus many sports event have been called off globally. This serious situation makes peoples to panic and leads them to self isolate. Many government and health organization advice and even force peoples to stay isolate in order to avoid the social spreading.
IPL postponed
The corona virus made it’s impact globally where many countries struggles to make their next move to control the spread. BCCI postponed cash-rich Indian Premier League tp April 15 due to the same. BCCI after discussing with IPL franchise made this statement and also hints that IPL would cancelled if its cross it’s deadline(April 20).
BCCI search for it’s possible way to host the IPL because BCCI would lose huge money if the tournament went down. After having a conference call with IPL owners BCCI decide to host IPL around the last of April or at the beginning of May if the pandemic extends.
Cricket Australia regards T20 World cup
Apart from the league the upcoming T20 world cup too is in oscillation. The tournament has been planned to host by Australia later this year. Due to this global issue Cricket Australia previously announced that it would cancel all in and out matches. At that time Cricket Australia announce that it would host T20 world cup later this year.
According to Indian Express, “the ICC is likely to have at least preliminary discussions on the fate of the world cup when its 18 member board of directors including heads of the 12 test playing nations hold a teleconference on March 29. It was supposed to be a full-fledged meeting over three days in Dubai before the coronavirus situation forced a change in plans.”
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to take a call on the seventh edition of the mega-event on March 29. The body officials from all international boards will have a teleconference for discussing the matter concerned. According to the reports, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will represent India at this conference.
However, Australia is expected to have a lockdown for more 6 months. In that case, the tournament will be either postponed or cancelled. Another edition of T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen in India in 2021. So we could see any one of these tournaments getting cancelled.
The world has come to a standstill due to the spread of coronavirus. The outbreak of the virus has forced all the vital events in the world to be suspended. The government has announced lockdowns to most parts of the world and has advised maintaining social distancing. The disease has taken over 15,000 lives worldwide.
Many Indian players awaits to show their form in IPL 2020 to get their slot in upcoming T20 world cup. Many senior players stand in their last leg to get into International squad. Australia is scheduled to organize T20 World Cup 2020 after IPL. So the league remains a golden opportunity for many of the cricketers to throw their names on the desk of the selectors.
4. Sanju Samson
The young wicket-keeper Sanju Samson has been in the spotlight for a long time. He has terrific numbers in the domestic tournaments. The selector gave a clear message to Rishabh Pant by picking Samson in the final T20Is against New Zealand. However, the Kerela batsman could not impress the selectors with his performance.
It is well known that Pant and KL Rahul stands ahead of the 25-year-old wicket-keeper batsman for the T20 World Cup. But the continues poor form of Pant has put his position in doubts. And Samson still has a chance to turn things around if he delivers well with bat and gloves in the upcoming IPL edition.
However, if the league gets cancelled, it is well-understood that Samson might lose up his spot for the T20 World Cup 2020.
3. Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik played a very famous knock against Bangladesh in Nidahas Trophy in 2018 final. He hit last-ball six to save men in blue from an upset. Since then he was a regular name in the Indian T20I side. He was also named as the backup wicketkeeper for World Cup 2019 and he played at No. 5 in the semi-final of that tournament.
The Tamil Nadu cricketer has not played for the national side since India’s poor World Cup snub. However, he has continued to impress in the domestic circuit. He scored 301 runs at an average of 33.44 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 418 runs at an average of 59.71 and a strike-rate of 121.15 in the Vijay Hazare tournament.
Since his absence from the team, Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have played in the middle order. But the fans felt that the team requires someone more experience in the lower order. Manish Pandey struggled to score quick runs at the death overs, which the 34-year-old cricketer can do with ease. This is what makes Karthik a perfect choice for the finisher role.
So IPL 2020 is a very good opportunity for the wicket-keeper batsman to prove his worth again. He can seal a T20 World Cup spot and turn over his fate. But if the cash league gets called off, it is almost over for the cricketer.
2.Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been on a horrible run since the start of IPL 2019. He was India’s premium bowler in white-ball cricket but now he is only a backup bowler. He was also dropped by his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in middle of the league. In IPL 2019, the chinaman could pick only 4 wickets in 9 games and gave away runs at an economy of 8.66.
Since the World Cup in England, the spinner has played only 3 T20Is picking 4 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja are being given more preference than the Uttar Pradesh spinner.
The 25-year-old cricketer has a chance to get his rhyme and confidence back in IPL 2020. It would have helped him in winning a spot in T20 World Cup squad. But the things have gone bad for the spinner as the IPL is under dark clouds of the virus. If the league gets cancelled, he might end up losing his spot for the mega event.
1.MS Dhoni
The India legendary wicket-keeper, MS Dhoni, has not played any competitive cricket since India’s world cup exit. He made himself unavailable after the mega-event and his name hits media when BCCI released central contract players list without MS Dhoni’s name. When many fans doubted his participation in IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came forward to confirm their skipper’s participation.
Dhoni reached Chennai on March 2 where he received a roaring reception from Chennai franchise. Dhoni also joined his franchise training session in March to prepare for the tournament. Dhoni’s training video with team players went viral specially Dhoni’s five sixes in five consecutive balls. But later the league had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the virus.
It is also no secret that IPL 2020 is the only platform for the former skipper to walk back into the national team. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri and newly elected selectors also mentioned that Dhoni’s performance in the IPL will decide his future.
But if the cash-rich league gets cancelled, nobody is gonna hit more than the CSK skipper. This might put an end to his international career forever.
Due to the increase in corona virus spread many suggest to stay isolate in order to avoid the spread. The cash-rich Indian Premier League has been postponed to mid of April amid corona virus pandemic. Earlier IPL franchise agreed to play the tournament behind the closed door with a condition where they request foreign players to get involve in the game.
BCCI announced to host the IPL on April 15 but also hints that the tournament would cancelled if it cross the deadline (April 15). On March 16 IPL owners had a conference call and announced that they could bear the lose if the tournament get cancelled. If the tournament get cancelled the BCCI is in verge to lose a huge amount in order to avoid the loss BCCI search for the possible way to host IPL.
IPL owners Conference call
On March 24( Monday) BCCI planned to hold a conference call along with IPL franchise regarding the schedule of the tournament. After the conference call a BCCI official has stated that BCCI might organise the tournament if the situation permits it by 30 April or even by the first week of May 2020.
“The latest we can wait is till the end of April. If the first game isn’t played by the first week of May then it will be almost impossible to have the league this year. Even if we have to wait until the end of April to follow all the procedures, we can take a cue from the South Africa edition and conduct the league successfully.
BCCI hopes to host IPL
“If you remember, that was the shortest IPL with 59 games played over 37 days and we can do the same. But certain measures will have to be taken,” the official was quoted as saying by News18.
The official also added that BCCI might do away with a lot of stadiums to avoid the travelling time. In such case Maharashtra can be a good option as it has three fully functional Cricket grounds.
“You cannot travel around the country in such a scenario. If we get the necessary permissions, we will have to stick to a place like Maharashtra where we have three stadiums in Mumbai and a stadium in Pune. I am sure this will then help us ensure that teams not only get fresh wickets to play but also there is minimal travel involved.
But before that, the government must deem it fit to organise tournaments. Public and player safety is the priority as the BCCI President has time and again said,” the official elaborated.
Since India’s semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand in August last year, MSD made himself unavailable for selection. During his break from cricket, the 38-year-old also served for the Indian Army too.
In his absence Pant and KL Rahul’s name were enrolled and gave a chance to prove them self. Where KL Rahul use this golden opportunity and show his best as compared with Pant. Recently in an interview Indian former player Virender Sehwag advice Indian team to go along with their current squad where Indian domestic legend Wasim Jaffer defends Dhoni and points the importance for his presence.
However, the team is still yet to settle for a proper keeper in red-ball cricket. During India’s Test series against New Zealand, Pant was taken ahead of Wriddhiman Saha who once again failed to deliver.
While the fans and critics have called for Saha’s inclusion in the playing 11 ahead of Pant on multiple occasions but Wriddhiman has finally spoken on the relationship he shares with Rishabh.
“We (me and Rishabh) keep joking around. We train together and we keep talking about the game and otherwise also. He always tries to give his best. There are few things which we have had a chat about,” Saha told IANS.
“I have told Rishabh a few things which he will try according to his comfort zone. He will try during training. It’s not like he will do it for one day and it will work. So, if he feels those things will work for him, he will try and implement them in his training.”
“It’s not like tips. It’s a discussion. I have told him these are things I follow and it makes my job easier. You can also try them and see if it works for you. See it’s very personal. But yes, we do discuss wicketkeeping,” he added.
“Life and family comes first. Then you can talk about sport. We all sacrifice a lot for the sport but eventually if a lot of people are hampered, that is not necessary,” Wriddhiman said.
“So, we need to take necessary precautions. For the time being, we all have to wait and when the situation gets better, we all will look to do well in the IPL.”
“We are not going out at all. People are also coming over less and even if they are, we are maintaining the required distance while talking. The child is safe. He is at home all the time and we are making sure whenever he is touched, our hands are properly sanitized,” he added.
Former Team India spinner Venkatapathy Raju has expressed his thoughts on why MS Dhoni was appointed as the Indian captain. Earlier in 2007, Raju was part of the official selection committee which appointed Dhoni as the Team India skipper.
MS Dhoni’s achievement
Indian skipper MS Dhoni bags three important trophies for India under his captaincy which makes him as a best. The “cool” character makes him to stand unique from other captains and players.
Venkatapathy’s open talk
M.S. Dhoni was named the captain of Indian Team for the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 held in South Africa in September 2007 and remained till 2016 in test matches Dhoni remained captain from 2008 to 2014. After this long period Venkatapathy Raju one of the official selection committee which appointed Dhoni as the Team India skipper opened his talk on the reason for his selection.
“Any player has to keep playing and performing to be in the contention. Be it domestic, India-A series or any other competitive cricket. You don’t have to prove to others, but prove to yourself that you belong there,” Raju told Sportstar in an interview.
“Playing international cricket is never easy. It demands a different level of fitness and skills. For that, you have to be in the thick of it.”
“I remember how I struggled coming back into Indian team after a three-year gap because of the totally different kind of intensive training in the Indian team as compared to playing Ranji or other first-class tournament,” he added.
“The guiding principle of the panel was simple – only consistent performers and match-winners will be considered for selection. We could do this because we watched most of the matches with focus on certain fringe players, who could go on to play for India. This is where the India-A series concept really helped us,” the former cricketer claimed.
“So, when it came to naming Dhoni the captain, he was the only one performing under pressure. His calmness and the way he handled things impressed all of us. It was a unanimous decision by the panel and we decided to go with him.”
“The other reason being many of the players, who were senior to him, were coming back from injuries or long breaks. So, we thought Dhoni was the best option and now we have no regrets given his phenomenal achievements as a player and a leader,” he further added.
Dhoni’s struggle
The captain cool is in trouble to make his return to Indian team for International tour. Previously BCCI announced that Dhoni’s performance would grab him a chance but due to the corona virus out break BCCI postponed the IPL to mid of April.
The out break of corona made Indian cricket fans to worry about the upcoming IPL. Due to the out break of corona, the BCCI postponed the 13th edition of Indian Premier League to the mid of April.
IPL Franchise decision
Previous the announcement IPL franchise agreed to play the match behind the closed door where they request to permit the foreign players against the visa restriction imposed by Indian Government. BCCI made the announcement after their meeting on March 14(Saturday) and hints IPL may called off if it cross it’s deadline(April 20).
Previous Conference call
After this announcement IPL owners had a conference call on March 16 and comes out with a decision focusing the safety of the peoples. But the BCCI is in no mood to give up on its hopes of conducting the IPL and is reportedly planning to stage the tournament in July-September if things do not improve in the coming days.
The Indian cricket board report a decision that if it can’t host the IPL in the country, it would move to a different venue. The board is also ready to host the tournament at a later date even if all the players will not be available. Thus contrary to the recent reports, the BCCI is not ready at all to cancel the IPL this year altogether.
“The 2009 IPL – in South Africa – was played inside 37 days. That’s five weeks and two days. If that kind of a window is made available, the IPL can be held partly in India and partly overseas, or the entire tournament can be shifted, depending on how the Covid-19 situation is globally,” a source told the Times of India.
Inspite of this decision Indian government advice not to conduct the tournament at this time. And also state government including Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh denied to host the matches.
IPL franchise’s Another conference call
Allegedly, the BCCI is also considering to call off the cash-rich tournament if the health situation gets too out of hand.
Last week, ANI reported that BCCI is set to hold a conference call with all the IPL franchises on Tuesday (March 24).
A BCCI source said: “BCCI and IPL franchise to have a conference call on coming Tuesday to discuss the process and further way of IPL 2020”.

Yuvraj, who played 304 ODIs for India and has scored 8,701 runs while Raina amassed 5,615 runs from 226 ODIs.
Manjrekar was also asked who he thinks was the right choice for number four and for the all-rounder’s spot in the T20 World Cup. Manjrekar picked Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya respectively.
Manjrekar also felt that the issue with Mumbai was “lack of exceptional leadership” in the Ranji trophy. Manjrekar was asked why the Mumbai Ranji team was not producing good fast bowlers and their bowling was a concern, to which he tweeted, “Mumbai Ranji cricket’s issue is simple. Lack of exceptional leadership. And I don’t mean only the captain of the team here.”
England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer always prove himself with the ball that too in Ashes series he never failed to show off. 4. Army symbol gloves in World Cup
In the India’s very first game against South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, he was seen, wearing keeping gloves with Army Insignia. A Pakistan minister also took a dig at Dhoni for playing with the Army badge. The ICC made it clear that Dhoni can’t wear the badge.
However, Dhoni got support from former Indian cricketers and the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The world’s richest cricket board asked the apex board to reconsider its decision and threw its weight behind Dhoni.
3.Fielding standards
In the same ODI tri-series in Australia, Dhoni took some calls as a captain, which came under scrutiny. He said that the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir had to be rotated to ensure that the fielding standards are maintained.
Former captain and then then chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar was also of the opinion that one should field the best eleven. Maninder Singh, another former cricketer, called the policy as “utter nonsense”. Dhoni wanted to give the young players enough exposure of playing on fields with big dimensions.
2. Verbal Altercation with the on-field umpires
In 2012, one more instance where Dhoni losing his cool surfaced. It happened during India’s away tri-series in Australia, also involving Australia. In the seventh ODI at The Gabba in Brisbane, he entered into a verbal altercation with the on-field umpires.
Michael Hussey was out in the middle and Dhoni took the bails off in a flash after Suresh Raina beat him with an absolute ripper of a ball. Hussey had grounded his feet, but third umpire Bruce Oxenford called for OUT.
On realising the error, on-field umpire Billy Bowden called Hussey back. The turn of events didn’t please Dhoni, who vent out his anger on the umpires, by any means. Hussey went on to score 59 with six fours, taking the Aussies to 288 for five. In the end, the home team came out trumps by 110 runs.
1. IPL no ball controversy in Jaipur
In IPL 2019, Dhoni lost his mind for a brief while. It happened during Chennai Super Kings’ league game against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The occurring took place during the fag end of the game when the pendulum was swinging way too frequently.
Dhoni wasn’t happy with umpire Ulhas Gandhe, who backtracked on a no-ball decision. On seeing the umpire’s change of mind, Dhoni charged out and confronted Gandhe. The heated argument took place for quite some time before sanity prevailed.
Bruce Oxenford, another on-field umpire, had to convince the CSK skipper to head back to the dugout. However, Dhoni was docked 50 per cent of his match fees after he admitted to the Level 2 offense of the IPL’s code of conduct.
Due to the out break of corona virus the world move into the next level where peoples isolate them self in order to prevent the social spread. The infection rage has been moved to an unexpected level. Government and various health organisation advice and even force everyone to stay in home.
Due to this many scheduled events including sports event has been postponed. The cash-rich Indian Premier League faces the same fate and postponed to mid of April. Due to the outbreak of corona many starts to follow the self isolation method in order to avoid social spreading. As a result every one starts to show them self in social media including celebrities and sports persons. Earlier Indian skipper Virat Kohli along with Anushka Sharma posted a tweet regarding ‘Janta curfew’.
New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan believes India opening batsman Rohit Sharma would have made the difference in the overall result had he played the two-match Test series in New Zealand earlier this month.
McClenaghan, 33, opined the same during a recent Q&A session which he conducted on his Twitter account. It is worth mentioning that McClenaghan warned his fans regarding not asking his favourite Indian player as it’s already his Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma.
Alright will give #askmitch a crack. No shit questions like who’s your favourite Indian player – you know it’s @ImRo45
Having last played for New Zealand during the first semi-final of ICC World Twenty20 2016 against England in Delhi, McClenaghan has since then become a freelance T20 cricketer and plays for various T20 league around the globe.
