Tom Moody Pin Points the Pujara’s Mistake For his Failure in Aussies Test

Former Australian legend Tom Moody analysis the batting style of Pujara and explains the reason for his failure in the ongoing Australia series.

Tom Moody Analysis Pujara’s batting style

Tom Moody said his(Pujara) style doesn’t do anything to threaten the bowler or throw him off guard, which in turn, allows the bowler to settle due to which he is struggling in the on-going series.

“One observation I have with Pujara… there’s no question about his quality, he’s a very fine Test batsman. But one thing I will say is that his style of play allows the bowler to hone in on a dinner plate and remain in that competitive length and line, where another proactive batsman is reversing the pressure back on the bowler and they are finding it hard to find a dinner plate,” Moody said on ESPNCricinfo.

“There’s a small sort of window on a very good length and line. So Pujara is never quite forcing a bowler like Hazlewood to or a Pat Cummins off that length because he is resolute on his defence. And if they are allowed to stay in there, the ball is going to just bounce a little bit more, seam a little bit more and his bat is going to be sitting there for that.”

    Moody praises Thakur and Sundar

Moody went on to talk about how many Indian batsmen, including Pujara, threw away a good start and how Thakur and Sundar’s partnership saved the day for the visitors.

“They were saved by the partnership between Thakur and Sundar. If the partnership hadn’t evolved, we’d be talking about the fact that the top order all got starts, except for Shubman Gill, and failed to cash in on what was a pretty good batting surface,” Moody mentioned.

“I think we’ve seen today how a good a surface it was at the Gabba and to get a start as a top-order batsman in a Test match and get yourself in and not convert to something substantial, is something you do kick yourself for and a number of the top-order batsman did that through some indifference strokeplay and you have to give credit to the Australian bowlers.”

BCCI Likely to Host Ranji Trophy 2021 in Prior to IPL 2021

BCCI is on the verge of hosting the Ranji Trophy 2021 before the IPL 2021. Ranji Trophy 2020 has been postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic which plays a massive lose for the Indian domestic circuit players.

BCCI pays Rs 40,000 per day to the players for the four-day Ranji Trophy matches. Which is the main source of income for more than 800 domestic cricketers.

BCCI might look to host the Ranji Trophy 2021 to back the domestic circuit players. The BCCI has also given the green signal to host women’s senior games but is yet to decide whether to go ahead with junior cricket this season.

BCCI Might Host Ranji Trophy 2021 before the IPL 2021

During Sunday’s Apex Council meeting of the BCCI, secretary Jay Shah sought feedback from the members whether they preferred the 50-overs tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy or Ranji after the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 ends on January 31.

Also, it is learnt that BCCI seeks to host the IPL 2021 in its regular window of March- April.

“The Apex Council had a discussion on the issue. And Jay bhai was of the view that players earn more in Ranji Trophy as compared to Syed Mushtaq Ali. The livelihoods of domestic cricketers depend on the four-day game. The operations team has been told to go ahead and make a concrete plan for the Ranji Trophy,” a BCCI official said.

With 38 teams playing in Indian domestic cricket, logistics and mobility could be a big task. The board had taken verbal feedback from state associations and many wanted to host the T20 and 50-over competitions. However, it is learnt that a few players requested Shah to host the Ranji Trophy instead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The dithering over junior cricket is due to the bio-bubble situation as the board feels dealing with it will be a tougher task for that age-group.

Sachin praises Siraj and Thakur for their impressive performance in 4th Test vs Australia

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praises Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur after the duo combined to pick nine wickets while bundling out Australia for 294. Shardul took four while Siraj picked his maiden five-for on day four of the fourth Test at The Gabba.

    Sachin praises Siraj and Thakur

The legendary batsman congratulated Siraj for his feat and showered praise on Shardul saying that his performance has kept the match and more importantly the Test series alive.

“Well done Mohd. Siraj on your 1st fifer and @imShard on your important all-round performance which has kept the Test rather interesting so far and more importantly, the Test series alive,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Last week, while analysing Siraj`s bowling, Tendulkar had said that it was the Indian pacer`s ability and not pitch that brought the ball in on the opening day of the final Test. The legendary Indian batsman praised Siraj and explained how the Indian speedster was able to bowl the inswing on day one of the fourth Test.

“When Mohammed Siraj was bowling, I had a couple of guys say that the ball hit the crack and it nipped back something which I observed was completely different. Mohammed Siraj, when he was bowling outswingers, (reflecting on the shiny surface of the ball) this is the shiny side and what he would do is he would get his fingers behind the ball and release it,” Tendulkar said in a video posted on his Twitter.

“So the seam is pointing towards first slip, or sometimes second slip, and when he wanted to bowl in cutter which moves off the seam, instead of going behind the ball he went off the pitch,” he added.

Mohammad Amir decides to withdraw his international retirement under one condition. Amir claims that if there is a new management in place then he will definitely makes his way back to the Babar Azam led Pakistan International team.

Earlier Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on 17-12-2020.

Amir decided to Withdraw his retirement

According to the latest developments, the out-of-favor Pakistani cricketer has reportedly volunteered to come out of retirement in order to play for the Babar Azam-led side on the international circuit.

“I will approach the board myself and tell them that I am available if there is a new management in place. I don’t think that the issues with current management will be resolved now because mindset doesn’t change in a day.” Amir was quoted as saying by Samaa TV.

In the meantime, the speedster isn’t happy about the reports around him. He was clear cut in saying that he would be available to play for Pakistan only when the present team management retires. He urged the media houses to stop spreading false news for the sake of publicity.

“I would like to clarify that yes I will be available for Pakistan only once this management leaves. so please stop spreading fake news just to sell your story.“

The 28-year-old speedster played 36 Tests, 61 One Day International (ODIs), and as many as 50 T20Is for the Pakistani national team. Amir also plied his trade with Galle Gladiators in the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL).

Earlier, Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has backed coach Misbah by defending the management’s decision to snub the pacer from the national squad. Azam had asserted that Amir’s performances were not up to the mark.

Akhtar Praises India for their Impressive Performance in Test vs Australia

Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar heaped praises on lower order of team India who outperformed in the 4th test vs Australia. Team India loses its aggressive lower-order players owing to player’s injuries.

India’s Jadeja, Ashwin, Vihari, and Bumrah were ruled out owing to injuries. Cricket experts suggest that team India would suffer a lot without its skipper Virat Kohli’s service. Team India then without an option left dragged T Natarajan, Thakur, Washington Sundar, Siraj, and Saini into the squad.

Australia set a target of 369 in the 1st innings. While chasing Indian batsmen struggled to face Australia’s aggressive blowing attack and walks to Pavillion soon. India loses it’s top 5 wickets while scoring 161 runs.

Scoring just half of the target while losing 5 wickets pushed India towards the struggle. In an unexpected way India’s Washington Sundar and Tharur scored 62 and 67 runs respectively and dragged India to score 336 runs for 10 wickets loss.

    Shoaib Akhtar praises Team India

This unbelievable play of these two young guns catches the eyes of many senior players and experts. Especially Shoaib Akhtar praises that half of team India is far better than the full Australia squad.

    Washington Sundar
    Washington Sundar

“Most of their players are injured but this is the beauty of the Indian team that despite all the setbacks, they are playing with kids (referring to debutant T Natarajan and Washington Sundar, along with Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj) who never would have thought in their wildest of dream that they’ll have to play against Australia in such a scenario.

With Australia coming with full strength and India stopping their onslaught, I’d believe that this half Indian team is better than fully-fit Australia,” the former quick said on a video on his YouTube channel.

India lost Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Hanuma Vihari – all this after Virat Kohli had already returned to India after the first Test.

    Bumrah
    Bumrah

“With so many injuries, only two big-name players have left – Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. Inexperienced Indian players are up against a ball of fire but they are making sure that Australia is being tested. Now imagine, if with this team, India can grab hold of this Test match, I would assume this would become India’s biggest Test series in history,” he said.

Despite such setbacks, India had bowled Australia out for 369 in the first innings, picking up the last five wickets for 95 runs. Debutants T Natarajan and Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur picked up three wickets each.

“You enter the final Test but you don’t have the team. And yet, they’re fighting. This is the character I’m talking about. I won’t call it a B team, but if with this they are able to strengthen their grip on the Test, and even if are able to draw, I’d believe it will be a historic moment. There’s a lot to be proud of,” Akhtar said.

Team India Likely to Skip Asia Cup 2021

Team India may not participate in Asia Cup 2021 which was rescheduled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

India may not play in Asia Cup 2021

The Asia Cup was supposed to be played in 2020 in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup but it had to be postponed after India decided to go ahead with the Indian Premier League. Pakistan, who will host the tournament in a different country, however, are going to suffer another hurdle with India is all set to once again turn its back once again.

    Asia Cup
    Asia Cup

“Further, the Asia Cup – even if it was scheduled – would’ve probably been played around the same time as the ICC Test Championship final. If India don’t make the final, the industry would’ve preferred the Asia Cup instead. Now, chance of such a thing happening look bleak so it’s a kind of catch-22 right now,” say those tracking developments.

India set to host SA and NZ

The BCCI wants to host South Africa and New Zealand post the England series in August-September as a preparation for the home T20 World Cup. There is a possibility of India hosting Sri Lanka to make up for the absence of a tournament like the Asia Cup but that will spell doom for Pakistan.

    India vs South Africa
    India vs South Africa

“Australia and South Africa had initiated a battle for Boxing Day some years ago, which Cricket Australia clearly won. That battle may resume, who knows? India will fight to keep its October-November (Dussera-Diwali) window to play at home and ensure IPL gets a larger window (March added to the April-May). These are matters that’ll test the efficacy of the upcoming FTP,” say those in the know.

In the meantime, the Asia Cup not happening is likely to upset the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) more than any other country. The 2019 edition of the tournament was PCB’s to host, which the Ehsan Mani-led board had decided to first host at a neutral venue (UAE) and later decided to share it with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

“We’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out,” sources add.

BCCI Likely to Add Only One Franchise in IPL 2022

BCCI may include a 9th team in the upcoming IPL 2022 tournament. Earlier BCCI approves to include 2 more teams to the existing 8 teams in the IPL. Owing to the shorter time inclusion of additional team skips from IPL 2021.

BCCI decides to add 1 team in IPL 2022

In the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Ahmedabad last month, the members had given approval to the inclusion of two new franchises in the IPL.

    BCCI president Ganguly
    BCCI president Ganguly

However, as per TOI, BCCI is likely to add only one team to the cash-rich league due to the following issues:

    A) Introducing only one franchise now will allow the Board to reap better value for the 10th team in the near future, as simultaneous bids have the potential to cap the value in prevailing market conditions.

    B) Adding two teams will force the BCCI to change the format of the league in order to fit the entire season within the existing timeframes (annual cricket calendar). The change in format will mean renegotiation with IPL’s partners in a year when IPL’s media rights will be up for bidding again. Instead, a nine-team IPL will mean only 74 matches – on a home & away basis – which is clearly being seen as a more feasible line of approach.

    C) As the International Cricket Council (ICC) gets busy finalising its next Future Tours Program (FTP) and member boards argue in favour of an eight-event cycle, the BCCI is mindful of the bigger picture – of extending the IPL window by at least a month. Extension of the window will mean deriving better value from both – the media rights auction as well as the auction for the 10th team.

    D) With just two seasons left before the new IPL rights cycle gets underway – tender for which is expected to be floated this year-end – the BCCI does not wish to disturb the applecart at the moment.

    E) And most importantly, the Board expects the legalities involving artibrations with Deccan Chargers and Kochi Tuskers to be resolved in the meantime.

    New Team inclusion tender date

The tender is likely to be floated anytime beginning March.

“All said, it’s a well-thought move. The BCCI will clearly benefit in the short and long run because it’ll derive better value from the 10th franchise in the future, doesn’t really disturb the ecosystem for now, buys them more time to put their own house in order,” industry executives say.

Those who are privy to developments say “the idea is also to maintain the quality of the tournament, which means ensuring quality cricketers are available to make for a 10-team pool. Now, is that the case? The ecosystem can only expand in line with talent and manpower. That balance has to exist,” they add.

With the 2023 50-over World Cup of the ICC being shifted from the February-March window to October-November, the BCCI has begun to see the ‘potential larger window’ to accommodate a bigger IPL. The board has been eyeing the month of March to be included for the T20 league and has the support of major cricket boards around the world.

“It is the smaller boards, who did not want BCCI’s comeback in the ICC and are pushing for the eight-year cycle of global events to work, who are not in favour of what India’s looking at. But from an industry standpoint, that’s not how it works. The IPL is like the elephant in the room and it’s going to make space for itself,” add those tracking developments.

India plans to host New Zealand and South Africa prior to the T20 World Cup 2021. It is learnt that the tour will have more T20Is and fewer Test matches just as a preparation for the marquee event.

Talks are also on to get South Africa for a short series to compensate for the series which was cancelled due to the pandemic in March last year.

India plans to Host South Africa and New Zealand

The New Zealand tour of India was scheduled after the T20 World Cup but the BCCI is reportedly keen on having it prior to the event. According to New Indian Express, India will also host South Africa in October as part of preparations for the World Cup.

India’s domestic season, which was delayed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, finally took off earlier this month with the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The tournament is being played in a bio-secure bubble.

A decision on Ranji Trophy was expected to be taken in the meeting on Sunday but the members could not find a consensus, despite BCCI president Sourav Ganguly batting firmly for the prestigious first-class tournament.

“The president remains committed to Ranji Trophy but a few others were not on the same page and wanted to host Vijay Hazare Trophy instead (50-over event). The operations team has been asked to work on the logistics for Ranji Trophy, which is obviously a much bigger challenge in the current circumstances,” a BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

“It will be either Ranji Trophy or Vijay Hazare and it will be decided by the end of next week,” the official said.

The domestic season for women will start in February which will be followed by the resumption of India’s international cricket. It’s likely that India women will start off with a series against Sri Lanka.

“It is likely to be a full fledged domestic season for women and there will be finally some cricket for our international stars with Sri Lanka and South Africa coming to India,” the official added.

BCCI continue to push tax exemption

The BCCI will also continue to push for tax exemption by the government for the men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled in October-November.

“BCCI is in talks with the government. Even if the desired exemption is not granted, the board will go ahead with hosting the World Cup. It may give up an amount from its ICC revenue kitty,” the official claimed.

Rishabh Pant Shows his Another Face While Standing Behind the Stump

Current Indian test wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant shows his funny face while standing behind the stump in the ongoing 4th Test vs Australia.

Rishabh Pant makes fun while keeping in 4th Test vs Australia

In the 37th over bowled by Washington Sundar Australian striker Wade tried to make a quick single. During the running wicket-keepers usually tries to make some warning for the batsmen.

In that scenario, Rishabh Pant makes a funny voice note which was captured by the mic stump. Soon fans start to comment on his funny voice note.

Pant has been involved in a constant back-and-forth throughout the series with Australia’s Matthew Wade, who as a keeper himself is no stranger to the act of winding up batsmen from behind the stumps.

Yet Pant took things to another level on Day 1 as, after Wade played a shot off Washington Sundar and ran a single, Pant let out what can only be described as a howl of glee that had his teammates amused.

Fans Reaction on Pant’s voice note

Fans on social media also saw the funny side of Pant’s moment of madness. Check out some of the best reactions below.

A Twitter fan mentioned as “Jo Bhi Bolo iske Presence Main Match Boring Lag Hee Nhi Skta Chahe Bowling Chal Rhi Ho Yaa Batting !!!!”(Whatever you say, I cannot seem to match the presence of its boring whether bowling or running)

Another fan mention to not to make commentary during Pant standing behind the stump. He mentioned as “There should be no commentary when Pant’s keeping !!!”.

Indian former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slams Rohit Sharma after his early departure in the 1st innings of the 4th Test vs Australia.

    Australia vs India 4th Test

Batting at first Australia poses a target of 369 runs for the 1st innings. India gets in pressure to build a massive opening partnership as they miss the service of strong lower order.

Post the 3rd Test vs Australia players including Ashwin, Bumrah, Vihari, and Jadeja have been ruled out owing to various injuries. Without the service of the senior bowling unit, India plays the final test with an inexperienced bowling unit.

Thus India’s top-order batsmen have given the responsibility of scoring big inorder to avoid the massive run chase in the second innings.

    Sunil Gavaskar slams Rohit Sharma

With tons of responsibilities, Rohit Sharma returns to Pavillion after scoring 44 runs. In the previous test, Rohit scored 26 and 52 runs in the two innings. These back to back non-appreciable innings made netizens to get frustrated.

Along with the fans Indian former cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar too joins the list and slams Rohit Sharma for his irresponsible innings.

“Why? Why? Why? That’s an unbelievable shot. That’s an irresponsible shot. There is a fielder there at long oo, there is a fielder there at deep square leg,” Sunil Gavaskar told Channel 7 on Saturday.

“You have just hit a boundary a couple of deliveries earlier and why would you play that shot? You’re a senior player, there is no excuse, absolutely no excuse for that shot. An unnecessary wicket, an unnecessary wicket gifted away. Totally unnecessary,” Gavaskar added.

Notably, Rohit looked uncomfortable after playing that “irresponsible shot” as he seemed to have picked up a niggle in his legs. The opener gingerly walked back to the pavilion.

    Rohit Sharma on his Dismissal

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan was all praise for debutant Washington Sundar after he dismissed danger man Steve Smith for 36 in the Brisbane Test on Day 1.

    Zaheer Khan Praises Washington Sundar

Zaheer Khan recalls the moment of Washington Sundar receiving the cap from his senior R Ashwin. Former speedster Zaheer quotes that Ashwin passes the secrete mantra for dismissing Steve Smith.

All-rounder Washington Sundar on Friday became the 301st cricketer to represent India in the longest format of the game. He made his Test debut memorable by getting the prized wicket of Steve Smith who had scored a hundred in the previous match in Sydney.

“It seemed like Ashwin gave Washington Sundar the guru-mantra on how to dismiss Steve Smith, along with his cap, about the line to be bowled in these conditions. We saw that he was able to get the ball to drift like Ashwin although he is quicker in the air than Ashwin,” Zaheer said on Sony Sports Network.

    Washington dismissed Steve Smith

Washington, filling in for R Ashwin, didn’t disappoint his senior mate as he got rid of the danger man Steve Smith for 36, keeping the leg-side trap on just like Ashwin did for the right-hander throughout the three Tests.

Smith, who was looking good for another big knock in the series, flicked one only to give an easy catch to Rohit Sharma, stationed at short mid-wicket, off Sundar’s bowling.

The former Indian left-arm pointed out that Sundar could turn more lethal in the second innings as the pitch might offer more turn.

“The line which he bowls to the right-handers, he will give trouble to them, especially when his faster deliveries get grip from the pitch. Then his straighter ones can prove to be even better. So, I believe when he comes in the second innings, and there is help like that in the wicket, he will cause a lot of problems.

But the way he bowled his 22 overs, considering that there was not that much help from the pitch the way we have normally seen so far on this tour, I feel it was a very good day for him,” Zaheer further said.

New Zealand’s Sophie Devine slammed the fastest women’s T20 century during the Super Smash T20 on Thursday.

Sophie Devine records Fastest Women’s T20 century

The New Zealand all-rounder smacked a 36-ball hundred while playing for Wellington Blaze against Otago Sparks, as she went past the previous record, held by Deandra Dottin of the Windies, who had done so in 38 deliveries.

    Heart Warming gesture from Devine

However, during her innings, the Kiwi batswoman nearly hit a little girl on her cheek with one of her sixes. However, videos showed that the girl barely avoided a severe injury, as the ball brushed her cheeks. Respect Respect Respect …more worried about the kid instead of celebrating her century

In a heartwarming gesture, Devine walked up to the fan, sat alongside to check on her and even posed for a photograph.

The innings included nine fours and the same number of sixes as Wellington won the contest by 10 wickets.

Devine then needed no second invitation to blast the three-time defending champions to another quick finish, muscling 59 off 26 balls opening the batting, with the Blaze going on to reach their target with 6.4 overs to spare, and send themselves six points clear at the head of the ladder.

    Post-match interview with Devine

Meanwhile, reflecting on her swashbuckling innings, Devine spoke to stuff.co.nz and said, “Whenever you have an extended break away for the game, you get nervous about ‘Can you come back into it?’ so it was nice to spend some time in the middle and get a few out of the screws.

“For me, it was just about playing smart cricket,” she added.

“To know where my gaps were, trying to manipulate the field … I felt I knew where they were trying to bowl so if I could manipulate myself around the crease, open up areas of the field so yeah, pleased with the way it went today

“I think sometimes I get a little bit carried away … and I get a bit over-eager and play some rash shots, so it was nice to stick to some decent cricket shots today and finish the job.”
