Tim Bresnan receive death threat for dismissing Sachin Tendulkar

England fast bowler Tim Bresnan has revealed that he and Australian umpire Rod Tucker both received death threats after taking Sachin Tendulkar‘s wicket on 91, denying his 100th international century, during the 2011 Test at The Oval. “This ball, it was probably missing leg anyway, and umpire Hill (Tucker), Aussie lad, shot him out. He was on 80-odd as well [91], definitely going to get it (his century). We win the series and go to number one in the world,” Bresnan said on the ‘Yorkshire Cricket: Covers Off’ podcast.

“We both got death threats, me and this umpire, we got death threats for ages after. I got them on Twitter and he had people writing to him to his home address and stuff, getting proper death threats going — ‘How dare you give him out? It was a missing leg,” he added.

According to Bresnan, Tucker had to step up his security due to the death threats.

“I caught up with him a few months later and he was like, ‘Mate, I’ve had to get a security guard and stuff.’ He had police protection around his gaff in Australia,” the 35-year-old said.

Tendulkar had to wait for quite some time to achieve the unique feat of 100 centuries as he went without scoring a ton in four outings in the 2011 World Cup and also missed the West Indies tour.

The right-handed batsman completed his 100th ton against Bangladesh in 2012 and became the only batsman in the world to do so.

Tendulkar made his debut in the Test cricket on November 15, 1989. In the same year on December 18, he played his first ODI match.

The cricketer has the most number of runs in the longest format of the game, amassing 15,921 runs. Along the way, Tendulkar scored 51 Test centuries, most by any player.

Things are no different in ODI cricket as Tendulkar tops the list of most runs in this format as well. He has accumulated 18,426 runs in ODI, which includes 49 tons.

Tendulkar represented the country in six World Cups during his career that lasted for 24 years. He was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad.

Former Team India cricketer and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar recently shared former South Africa president Nelson Mandela’s quote on social media to state how sport has the power to change the world.

Athletes have been fuming after a Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was charged on Friday with murder in the death of unarmed 46-year-old Floyd.

Cellphone footage of the white officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck prompted a wave of protests across the United States.

Along with the quote, Sachin also shared a video posted by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The short clip is from the 2019 men’s ODI World Cup final, which was won by England.

“Without diversity, cricket is nothing. Without diversity, you don’t get the full picture,” ICC had captioned the video.

“Nelson Mandela once said, ‘Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite the world in a way that little else does.’ Wise words,” Sachin tweeted.

Sachin Tendulkar threatened Sourav Ganguly to send him back home and end his career

“Sachin also gave a lesson to all the players in the dressing room, doubting himself on his abilities after the two-Test series. Sourav Ganguly, who was new to the team went up to console the skipper. When he walked up to Sachin, the then captain told him to get ready for the next day’s morning run. Ganguly did not turn up for it and that is when Sachin threatened him that he will send him back home and end his career,” Vikrant Gupta said on a YouTube video for SportsTak.

After that day, Ganguly worked hard and made sure he never gives Tendulkar a chance to thrash him.

Former chief selector Kiran More feels MS Dhoni is still in fit and form for the upcoming International tours. Dhoni keeps quit on controversies regarding his retirement which arises after BCCI exclude his name from the Central contracted players of the current year.

After the world cup 2019 semifinals where India lose to New Zealand, former skipper made himself unavailable for the upcoming series at that time. After a lot of hurdles Dhoni expected to make his return through the IPL 2020.

Earlier former Indian cricketer Sehwag and Australian bowler Brad Hogg throws their view on Dhoni’s possible return to Indian squad for T20 world cup. Sunil Gavaskar too insist Dhoni to retire from the cricket.

He was fit, I saw him in the nets

However, former chief selector Kiran More has expressed his thoughts about Dhoni’s future, claiming that the former Indian skipper looked fit while practising.

“It’s very difficult, it’s his call. It’s going to be tough, not going to be easy. Mind says you want to, but the body does not allow. Before IPL, he was fit, I saw him in the nets, he was raring to go,” Kiran More was quoted as saying by multiple outlets.

“In tennis, guys of 34, 39 are on top of their game. Now if you are disciplined, if you keep your mind and body strong you can make a comeback. Ashish Nehra made a comeback and did very well,” he added.

    IPL Updates

Sachin Tendulkar Controversies: 13 Instances When the Maestro Paid the Price for Being Who he Was

    Sachin Tendulkar Controversy moment

Sachin Tendulkar has been India’s darling since his debut in 1989 and has largely managed to stay away from controversies for a major part of his career with his squeaky-clean reputation and gentlemanly demeanour — on and off the field.  But even his great reputation could not help Tendulkar from getting him dragged into a few controversies. It’s rightly said that only a fruit-laden tree will get pelted by stones.

Following are the incidents where it seemed the maestro paid the price for being Sachin Tendulkar:

Mike Denness bans Sachin Tendulkar for ball-tampering

It was a moment that shook the cricketing world. Tendulkar, the epitome of integrity, was accused by match-referee Mike Denness of ball tampering during an India-South Africa Test match at Port Elizabeth. While four players  [Virender Sehwag, Deep Dasgupta, Harbhajan Singh and Shiv Sunder Das] were charged for excessive appealing, Tendulkar was accused of ball-tampering and was handed a one-match ban. Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was banned for one Test and two One-Day Internationals for his inability to handle his players.

However, the fact that a finger was pointed at Tendulkar caused a huge uproar. Both sides played the next Test without Denness’ supervision and it was stripped off its status.

The move caused uproar in the Indian parliament, press termed Denness as racist, and the Indian cricket board threatened to call off the tour. Indian public took to the streets and burnt effigies of the Englishman.
With Denness, unable to explain his actions, Ravi Shastri famously stated, “If Mike Denness cannot answer questions, why is he here? We know what he looks like.”

Subsequently the ban on Tendulkar and Ganguly was lifted.

    The Ferrari incident

Fiat gifted Tendulkar a Ferrari for equalling Sir Donald Bradman’s feat of 29 Test centuries. Even as India’s then Finance Minister Jaswant Singh offered to waive custom duties to import the car, the rules didn’t allow waiver of custom duties for gifts. However, the public didn’t receive it well as the waiver wasn’t within the rules. A few public spirited citizens took up the matter to the Delhi High Court in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). To assuage the controversy, Fiat India paid the duty.

Sons of the soil controversy involving Bal Thackeray

India boasts of unity in diversity and Tendulkar is one icon who symbolises that spirit. His statement “Mumbai belongs to India. That is how I look at it. And I am a Maharashtrian and I am extremely proud of that, but I am an Indian first,” tugged the heart of the nation and lived up to his tag. However, it didn’t sit well with the then Shiv Sena Supremo Late Bal Thackeray, who criticised Tendulkar for “leaving his crease” and stepping into the political arena.

    Monkeygate incident

In what was one of the most controversial cricket matches in recent history, the second Test between Australia and India witnessed the Monkeygate incident where Harbhajan Singh was accused of passing racist remarks against Andrew Symonds and calling him a monkey. While Australians took offence to that and Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden bore witness to that incident, the off-spinner defended himself by saying that he used a common Hindi slang ‘maa ki’ and didn’t pass any racist remark.

The panel accused Harbhajan and suspended him for three matches, before Tendulkar came to his defense and his word was taken. Eventually, Harbhajan’s penalty was reduced to a fine.

In his book True Colours, Adam Gilchrist wrote, “Tendulkar, who’d said at the first hearing that he hadn’t been able to hear what Harbhajan had said — and he was a fair way away, up the other end, so I’m certain he was telling the truth — now supported Harbhajan’s version that he hadn’t called Symo a ‘monkey’ but instead a Hindi term of abuse that might sound like ‘monkey’ to Australian ears.”

Following that incident, Tendulkar earned the ire of the Australian players and fans.

“…despite the unparalleled greatness of his achievements, some Australians lost respect for him when he gave completely different accounts of what took place as a key witness in the Harbhajan Singh-Andrew Symonds racism meltdown,” Malcolm Conn wrote in Herald Sun.

Recently, in an excerpt of Ponting’s book ‘Close of Book’, he questioned Tendulkar’s role in the controversy.

A few Australians haven’t forgiven Tendulkar for his support for Harbhajan.

    The Flag Controversies

It was a controversy in which his name was unnecessarily dragged. Prior to the start of the 2007 World Cup, the Indian team was in Jamaica and the Indian High Commission invited them for a function. At that get-together, a cake bearing the colours of the national flag was cut by Tendulkar. Such a depiction isn’t allowed by Indian law and Tendulkar found himself in a muddle.

A case was filed against him in a Court in Indore. Delhi Police too received a complaint for his act.
However, it was surprising considering the fact that the function itself was organised by representatives of the Indian government, who should have known the law.

Tendulkar found support from various Members of Parliament and the Indian cricket board as they stated that the incident should not be blown out of proportion.

Vinod Kambli’s statements on a reality show

Tendulkar and Kambli plundered tons of runs together and their friendship was an example to many youngsters in the country. Even as one rose to the pinnacle of the sport and the other failed to live up to his precocious talent, their friendship stood the test of time. However, things changed when Kambli made an appearance on a reality television show Sach ka Saamna (The Moment of Truth). On that show, contestants were asked questions and their answers were verified by a lie detector analysis. Kambli was asked whether Tendulkar could have saved him from his self-destructive tendencies. An emotional Kambli answered with the positive — which was confirmed by the machine. The good old days were gone.

Adam Gilchrist’s book sparks a fire

Australian wicket-keeper batsman Gilchrist’s comments on Tendulkar in his autobiography caused quite a stir. Gilchrist wrote that Tendulkar was the last person to shake hands with the opposition after a game ended. However, the part where he questioned Tendulkar’s honesty during the Monkeygate scandal is what started a storm. With a number of members of the Indian cricketing fraternity hitting back at Gilchrist, he called up Tendulkar to clarify that his comments were taken out of context.

    Shoaib Akhtar’s “Controversially Yours”

In a candid autobiography, the flamboyant Akhtar said that Tendulkar is good, but isn’t a match-winner. Given his fantastic record in games won by India, this statement seemed baseless. When asked for his thoughts, Tendulkar said that it was below his dignity to respond to Shoaib.

    Shoaib Akhtar’s “Controversially Yours”

    Tendulkar the actor

Tendulkar is the million dollar baby of Indian cricket as he opened the floodgates for the players into the commercial world. However, he demanded a tax exemption before the court for a part of his income by arguing that he had earned it as an actor. Tendulkar has featured in a number of television commercials and his lawyers argued that he had done that in the capacity of an actor and not as a sportsman. This too wasn’t received well by the public who believed that the millionaire had pockets deep enough to pay the said taxes.

Moving into a new house without permit

Tendulkar’s palatial home in Mumbai became the talk of the town. Right from its construction to its inauguration was covered by the media. However, after Tendulkar performed the house warming ceremonies, it was revealed that he didn’t have the necessary permits to enter his new home.

Tendulkar was imposed a fine of Rs 4.75 lakh by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for moving in to his new house in Bandra without the Occupancy Certificate.

    Federer incident

In the aftermath of the victorious 2011 ICC World Cup, Tendulkar felt that he deserved a long break and skipped the entire tour to the West Indies. Even as the Indian team played the Test series in the Caribbean, Tendulkar was watching Wimbledon and caught up with the legendary Roger Federer. Many felt that he should have been playing instead of socialising in London.

    Shwaas controversy

Shwaas was a Marathi feature film that was eying an Oscar nomination. To fund their campaign, Tendulkar was ready to auction some of his gear to raise money. However, that gesture was called into question by a few political factions who believed he could fund the programme with his own money instead of giving away his bats etc.

    Sahara advertisement controversy

In 2012, the Indian team’s sponsors Sahara started a new chain of retail outlets. Their campaign centred around the fact that families might consume adulterated food if they shopped elsewhere. To spread such a message, Tendulkar was shown following a Hindu ritual of circling a funeral pyre before lighting it. The ad was for Sahara Q Shop, which spoke about the ill-effects of adulterated food.

PCB Retains Bismah Maroof as Captain, Announce Enhanced Contracts for Women’s Team

Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday sacked national women’s team head coach Iqbal Imam but retained Bismah Maroof as captain for the 2020-21 season.

The board also announced enhanced central contracts for nine women cricketers and also a nine-player emerging category.

The board said it had made a 33 percent enhancement in the Category A contracts and given 30 and 25 percent raises in the B and C Categories as well.

It said that as part of promoting women’s cricket and incentivising aspiring cricketers, it had also enhanced match fee and prize money for domestic events by 100 percent, domestic daily allowance raised by 50 percent.

In a continuation to last year, the Pakistan national women’s team will travel business class on all flights longer than five hours.

The board’s newly introduced emerging players list includes 16-year-old Syeda Aroob Shah, 15-year-old Ayesha Naseem, 22-year-old Muneeba Ali Siddiqui, Fatima Sana, Kainat Hafeez, Najiha Alvi, Rameen Shamim, Saba Nazir and Sadia Iqbal.

The main central contracts list includes Bismah Maroof and Javeria Khan in category A, Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig and Sidra Nawaz in B category and Anam Amin, Nahida Khan, Nida Dar and Omaima Sohail in C category.

Chief selector Urooj Mumtaz said the international performances over the past 12 months, fitness standards and the players’ ability to contribute in both white-ball formats were key measures that formed the criteria for the selection.

Bismah Maroof Disappointed Over ICC’s Decision

As reported earlier, Pakistan and India are the teams that have to share points as the sides failed to play a bilateral series against each other. Which made the Indian women’s cricket team to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2021 by virtue of being the top four.

Replying to that the 28 year old Bismah Maroof pointed out that after a review and understanding of the decision, the legal team may consider going to ICC if it seems necessary.

In a video conference Maroof was heard saying that the verdict was disappointing. She explained that the Pakistani group had been waiting a long time to play alongside India.

She reveals that the Pakistani Board was working on it but it failed to get any response from the Indian side. The video conference was arranged by PCB. It has to be noted that in light of numerous terrorist attacks and mischiefs on the border, the Indian government has thrown any idea of having a sporting relation with Pakistan off the table.

Rohit and Dhawan share great friendship and understanding both on and off the field and the camaraderie between the two has always been praised by others

On Friday, BCCI shared a trailer of Mayank Agarwal chat show’s Episode 2 of ‘Open nets with Mayank‘, where Rohit and Dhawan were having a fun conversation with India’s Test opener. In the video, Rohit shared an incident where Dhawan started singing in the middle of a match.

Shikhar Dhawan Started Singing During a Match

“We were playing in Bangladesh in 2015 as I was standing in the first slip and Shikhar was in third slip. Suddenly he started singing very loudly. The bowler was already in his run up and the batsman, Tamim Iqbal, was left amazed. He didn’t understand where the noise was coming from,” Rohit told India Test opener Mayank as Dhawan was in splits.

“It might not sound as funny right now but when it happened on the field we couldn’t control our laughter, it was really funny,” Rohit added.

Dhawan went on to say that his sense of humour is very spontaneous.

“When Jatt ji and Hitman are in conversation, expect nothing less than entertainment,” BCCI’s tweet read along with the video clip. The full video will come out soon, the tweet said.

Since catching the eye as an opening pair during India’s victorious 2013 ICC Champions Trophy campaign, Dhawan and Rohit have broken many records together and have been one of India’s most successful opening combinations in white-ball cricket after the legendary pair of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Report : Pakistan Cricket Board Reverses Decision of Terminating Contracts of 55 Employees

    Wasim Khan

The Pakistan Cricket Board has reversed its decision to terminate contracts of its 55 employees with chief executive Wasim Khan admitting that communication needs to be better on the part of the parent body.

The PCB came under fire on Thursday when 10 employees posted at Karachi’s National Stadium were served termination notices, most of them lower rung staff, being paid modest salaries.

Critics questioned the decision in existing circumstances when the COVID-19 pandemic had hit the economy hard. The other criticism was that while firing lower rung employees, the board was spending millions on hirings in senior positions.

PCB Reverses Decision of Terminating Contracts of it’s Employees :

On Friday, the board reversed its decision with CEO Khan admitting that they need to have a rethink on lay-offs.

He said in a statement: “Making changes is about timing and on reflection, the process and communication needed to be better. As a responsible organisation, we have reviewed our decision and acted quickly to withdraw the notices.”

Khan, however, added that PCB is over-staffed and it might not be sustainable in the long-term.

“The PCB will make necessary decisions in due course,” he added.

The PCB has possibly the largest setup among the cricket boards of the world as far as its staff strength is concerned.

Almost every chairman had made appointments to oblige friends and relatives and the staff strength is said to be approximately 800.

In recent months, the board has already released some 260 employees mostly ground staff after it changed the domestic cricket structure, doing away with the regional cricket associations.

These 260 employees including groundsmen, curators besides office clerks were working and getting some portion of their monthly salaries from the PCB besides their respective regions.

Earlier Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani has provided an update on the probable future of the Asia Cup amid coronavirus outbreak across the globe.

England Plan to Host Pakistan and Australia as Planned Before COVID-19 Pandemic

England plan to host Pakistan and Australia matches as planned

Resuming international cricket amidst COVID-19 scare demands guts on the part of all facets involved in the resumption. The same was highlighted by England Cricket Board Director of Special Projects Steve Elworthy in a recent interaction with Sky Sports Cricket.

“It’s an incredibly challenging but, at the same time, very rewarding project. What we are trying to achieve here is something that has never been done before,” Elworthy was quoted as saying on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast’s The Cricket Show.

Elworthy was obviously referring to the efforts around England hosting West Indies for a three-match Test series. Following a government directive which seems to be almost confirmed, England will host West Indies from July 8 to become the first country to host international cricket amidst the global crisis.

While spectators are highly unlikely to be allowed during these matches, Elworthy has expressed confidence in conducting them under “safe and secure” environment.

“We’re very confident and comfortable with the fact we’ve got a plan in place to deliver these bio-secure matches behind closed doors – in the most safe and secure way,” he said.

England plan to host Pakistan and Australia

There is no denying to the fact that the pandemic happening right before the English summer has affected their plans in more ways than one. Other than West Indies, England were also scheduled to host Pakistan, Australia and Ireland this summer.

Further speaking on the upcoming fixtures, Elworthy revealed that ECB (England Cricket Board) are in constant talks with PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), CA (Cricket Australia) and CI (Cricket Ireland) to put their best foot forward to conduct all matches as planned.

“There has been a huge amount of work done. The West Indies are the first team to arrive here but, at the same time, we hope to have Australia, Pakistan and Ireland come this summer.

“We have been speaking to them, we’ve been in weekly communication with all of them but, in this particular case, more extensively with the West Indies because their Test matches are about five weeks away,” Elworthy added.

While Pakistan are expected to tour England for three Tests and three T20Is, Australia are expected to play six white-ball matches. It will as late as September when Ireland are slated to play three ODIs in England.
