‘MS Dhoni Not At All Thinking Of Retirement, Very Determined to Play IPL’, Says Dhoni’s Manager Diwakar

    0
    Dhoni retirement updates

MS Dhoni turned 39 on July 7 and hasn’t played professional cricket for nearly a year. His last match was against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup semifinal.

However, Dhoni has no plans to retire according to his manager and childhood friend Mihir Diwakar.

Asked whether retirement has crossed Dhoni’s mind, Diwakar told PTI:

“Being friends, we don’t talk about his cricket. But looking at him, he’s not all thinking about retirement.

“He is very determined to play the IPL. He has worked really hard for this. If you remember he was there in Chennai one month in advance before everything was shut down.

“He has maintained his fitness regimen at his farmhouse and will start practice after the lockdown is lifted. Everything now depends on how fast the situation returns to normalcy.”

Recently, former India captain Sourav Ganguly said Dhoni was not just a great finisher but a great overall player.

“One of the great players in world cricket. Not just a finisher, I think everyone talks about the way he finishes lower down the order…he batted at No. 3 when I was captain. He got 140 against Pakistan in Vizag. I always believe that he should bat up the order because he is so destructive,” Ganguly told Mayank Agarwal in a video show for BCCI.

“You know the best player in the shorter format can hit boundaries at will. You look over a period of time, the history of one-day cricket…the best players can find the fence under pressure consistently and M.S. Dhoni was one of them.”

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said Dhoni would become the permanent ‘boss’ of CSK in 10 years.

“In 10 years from now, my feeling is that he’ll be a permanent fixture in Chennai as the Chennai Super Kings Boss,” he said.

WATCH : “Asia Cup 2020 has been called-off” Claims BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

    Asia cup 2020 updates
    Asia cup 2020

Media executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Samiul Hasan Burney trusts Sourav Ganguly’s cases that the Asia Cup 2020 stands dropped has no legitimacy and rather it’s up to the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) to choose the destiny of the competition.

BCCI president Ganguly on Wednesday declared the wiping out of the Asia Cup. Even though the previous India skipper didn’t offer clarification or explanation for it, the inability to choose a host country appears to have purportedly reassessed the competition.

“In December, we have the first full series. Asia Cup 2020 has been called-off which was scheduled to take place in September,” Ganguly told ‘Sports Tak’ in an Instagram live session.

However, Hasan has countered Ganguly’s claims, saying an announcement of such importance can only be made by President of the ACC. “The statements made by Sourav Ganguly have no impact on proceedings. Even if he passes comments every week, they do not hold weight or merit,” Hasan said.

“The decision regarding the Asia Cup will be taken by the ACC. The announcement can only be made by the president of the Asian body Nazmul Hasan. To the best of our knowledge, the schedule of the next ACC meeting is yet to be announced.”

Watch Ganguly’s Instagram live with Sports Tak:

The PCB and the BCCI have been at loggerheads over the booking part of the Asia Cup. The fifteenth version of the competition was planned to be held in September and in May of 2019, the ACC affirmed that Pakistan will have the occasion.

Be that as it may, because of pressures among India and Pakistan, the BCCI mentioned the PCB to change the scene, or direct India’s matches outside of Pakistan because of security concerns, ideally in the UAE.

In February this year, Ganguly had said that the Asia Cup will be arranged in the UAE and that the two India and Pakistan will play, however, the cases were turned somewhere around PCB director Ehsan Mani.

From that point onward, there and been to and fro data concerning the competition before Ganguly reported it’s wiping out on Wednesday. Be that as it may, Hasan’s remarks appear to give another curve to it. Indeed, even BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury accepts the Asia Cup despite everything gets an opportunity to proceed.

“As far as I am concerned ACC management is working on Asia Cup 2020. They are also exploring other options if the tournament cannot be hosted on scheduled time,” he said.

England vs West Indies 1st Test

The wait is finally over. The much-awaited day has finally come as international cricket is all set to resume once again after-action around the world came to a halt in March in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. England and West Indies are all set to lock horns against each other in the first of the three-match Test series at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton to kickstart international cricket.

If the pandemic does not end anytime soon, this series is likely to become the template for other countries to follow to play international cricket. The series will take place behind closed doors and in bio-secure stadiums. Players and officials will live at the on-site hotels at each ground and be screened daily for symptoms and regularly tested for COVID-19 based throughout the match.

The ICC has also confirmed teams will be able to substitute any player who shows signs of COVID-19 during a Test match. Saliva ban, non-neutral umpires, extra DRS reviews are some of the other changes that will be seen in the series as cricket attempts to get back on track.

The experience will be different for the players as well as fans in these testing times but there is no denying that a good contest between the bat and ball is all that the cricket world is hoping for.

Both the teams will be short on match experience although they enter the game on the back of an intra-squad warm-up game. West Indies had stunned England in the home series last year and will be looking to replicate that performance again while the hosts will be eyeing the revenge.

    Watch Day 5 Highlights:

    Captain’s view:

    England Skipper:

Ben Stokes (1/2), on his first Test as England captain: It’s great that we’ve been able to play cricket. We are used to playing in front of a lot more people. It’s been amazing to be involved in getting back into cricket, in terms of viewership. Both sides had a lot of time to build up with the camps. West Indies had a lot of time getting ready in Manchester. It was a hard-fought Test. The skills and the level of cricket played was fantastic.

You have to believe that 200 is enough, and if you don’t, you’re already losing. We should have got more runs in the first innings. We weren’t ruthless enough to make our batting innings count, despite getting into good positions.

I would still have batted first because the first innings runs count. If we made 400-500 runs, we really would have taken it away. But it has been a massive learning curve for the batting line-up and the young guys.

Ben Stokes (2/2), on leaving out Broad: I don’t regret leaving Stuart Broad out, and we are fortunate to leave someone like him out. I would be upset if he didn’t show the passion he did in that interview, and he’s nowhere near done.

If he plays in the second Test I hope he walks off with some wickets. Pressure shows itself in different ways, and some hectic running goes on in the middle, and there are chances we didn’t take. Lots of positives in retrospect, and a good learning curve this game.

In terms of fitness, we had a long build-up period, so it’ll be interesting how everybody pulls up for the next Test. I’ve loved captaining England, but this is Joe’s team and I welcome him back.

Jason Holder | West Indies captain: One of our best victories. Yesterday was the best day I had in Test cricket. All the bowlers toiled hard yesterday, and it was a hard-fought day of Test cricket. I don’t think any team knew. We had been sat at home doing nothing.

We had time to prepare, but you never know. John took a blow today, but hopefully, he will come through. We knew what was at stake yesterday evening. We knew we had 98 overs, and we had to go to 7 PM. Alzarri and I thought we would bowl till 6:30 and the other two would take over.

It would’ve been difficult to push for a win if we didn’t bowl extremely well on a flat pitch. Blackwood was outstanding. Disappointing to see him get out on 95 but that’s how he plays. Jermaine always tries and never short on effort, and today was his big moment.

Man of the Match: Shannon Gabriel Man of thr Match

Player: Shannon Gabriel (Bowler – 9 wickets for 137 runs)

I wasn’t doubtful about my fitness. I knew I would play. I knew the work that I put in would take care of itself. I am still a bit stiff, but there are a few days to recover for the next Test match.

Based on their workload, the fast bowlers I mean, they should be able to come through, depending on the recovery. However, the guys are pretty fit for the series.
The guys were confident coming here after the win in the Caribbean last year, and we knew if we prepared well, we would be able to perform.

Sachin Tendulkar Opens Up On England All-Rounder Ben Stokes’ Captaincy Style

    0

The excitement drawn around witnessing Ben Stokes lead England for the first time has touched new heights every day. From his teammates to former English cricketers and captains, all have backed Ben Stokes to do an impressive job as the skipper.

And Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the latest one to step forward and shed light on Stokes’ approach as a leader. The 29-year-old all-rounder will lead England in the opening match of England’s home season in Southampton and is the 81st Test captain of the nation.

With Joe Root deciding to skip the first of the three Tests against the West Indies, the ECB installed their Test vice-captain as the stand-in-skipper. And after his heroics in the 2019 World Cup and Ashes, admittedly the focus is dead set on Stokes.

Sachin Tendulkar has no doubts on Ben Stokes’ decision to lead from the front like he always does. The 47-year-old has even backed the New Zealand all-rounder to put on a defensive approach when the team needs it.

Tendulkar went on to mention that as long as one has controlled aggression, it can produce desirable results and the southpaw has that in his repertoire.

“He is someone who is going to lead from the front, we have seen that on many occasions. He is aggressive, positive and when he has to be slightly defensive he is prepared to do that for the team. I always feel controlled aggression produces results and so far whatever I have seen, the aggression has been there but it is controlled. So this is what I think of Ben Stokes,” the Mumbai batsman said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Sachin Tendulkar confident of Ben Stokes coming in the league of Andrew Flintoff and Ian Botham:

Sachin continued by hailing Stokes’ for being mentally strong and emerging as a champion after what he went through three years ago. Tendulkar lauded his body language having seen it first and described it as uplifting and vibrant.

“For Ben Stokes from what he has been through in the recent past to where he is today it is a total transformation and it can happen only to someone who is mentally strong. When I first looked at him a few years ago, I could see his body language it was so positive and vibrant and that energy is infectious,” he added.

The leading run-getter in Tests and ODIs believes that in a few years, we will be treating Ben Stokes at par with the likes of Ian Botham and Andrew Flintoff and that he makes a significant impact on the field.

“I felt that he was one of those players where in time to come you look back and say Ben stokes, (Andrew) Flintoff, Ian Botham these are the leading all-rounders who played for England. I really rate him highly and his impact on the field is a major one,” he added.

Sachin Tendulkar Claims West Indies Skipper Jason Holder as the Most Underrated All-Rounder

    0
Sachin claims Jason Holder as as the Most Underrated All-Rounder

Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has opined that West Indies skipper Jason Holder is probably the most underrated all-rounder currently in the world.

It is always difficult to ignore a man who is 6’7″ tall and when you’re talented as well then it just becomes impossible to ignore. That is what Jason Holer is. A tall and lanky all-rounder talented with both the bat and ball.

    Holder as Most Underrated All-Rounder

Tendulkar’s remarks came as international cricket is set to resume after 117 days with England and West Indies up against each other in the first test match of the three-match series on Wednesday.

“Jason Holder is the most underrated all-rounder, because on the field, maybe you will look at Kemar Roach or Shannon Gabriel, but Jason Holder only when you look at the scoreboard, you realise that he has come in and taken three wickets,” Tendulkar told Brian Lara during the chat on Master Blaster’s app ‘100 MB’.

“When he is batting, he has scored those crucial 50-55 runs when it mattered, he is an underrated player but he contributes on a regular basis, he is a terrific player to have in your team,” he added.

During the course of the interaction, Lara also labelled Holder’s leadership as ‘critical’ and stated that it is not nice that Holder has not been handed the captaincy of the side for a prolonged duration.

Notably, Holder and Ben Stokes would be leading West Indies and England respectively in the first test of the three-Test series.

Ben Stokes Net Worth 2020: How Much Does the English All-Rounder Earn in a year?

    0
    Ben Stokes Net Worth 2020

England all-rounder Ben Stokes will become their 81st Test captain upon walking out for the toss during the first Test of the imminent West Indies’ tour of England in Southampton.

Named to lead the side in regular captain Joe Root’ absence, the responsibility will add a different facet altogether in his career which already sees him play vital roles across departments and formats in the English team.

Stokes, 29, had made his limited-overs debut during the English summer of 2011. In nine years as an international cricketer, Stokes is undoubtedly among the best all-rounders in the sport. When it comes to playing all the three formats, Stokes might arguably be the best in his category.

     Ben Stokes Net Worth 2020

Given Stokes’ prowess in all the formats, one doesn’t have to guess that he is among the highest-paid modern-day English cricketers. If a report in express.co.uk is to be believed, Stokes’ current England multi-format contract is said to be worth £925,000.

Stokes, who seems to have a knack of alluring ludicrously opulent deals in the Indian Premier League, has been twice sold among the highest-paid players. It is due to the same reason that Stokes’ estimated net worth until the start of this year was estimated at £8 million to put him amidst most well-to-do modern-day English cricketers.

Stokes, who used to earn £200,000 per year during his sponsorship deal with New Balance, now earns an even better amount after being signed by Gunn & Moore. Considering the pace with which Stokes is rising up the ranks and with age on his side, here is hoping that the star player gets to be England’s all-time richest cricketers.

“Do it Your Way” : Joe Root’s Message to Ben Stokes Ahead of 1st Test

Joe Root's Message to Ben Stokes Ahead of 1st Test

Stand-in England captain Ben Stokes on Tuesday revealed a classy message from regular Test skipper Joe Root ahead of the first match of the three-Test series against West Indies at Ageas Bowl starting Wednesday.

Stokes will be leading England in the first Test after Root left the bio-secure bubble in Southampton for Sheffield, to be with his wife, who is expecting their second child.

“I haven’t been given much advice, although there”s been a lot of opinions flying around,” Stokes told reporters as per metro.co.uk.

“The best message I’ve received was when I got my photos done yesterday, with the blazer. Rooty just left a message on the hanger which said ”do it your way”.”

Stokes also said he will try to pick brains of some of the more experienced players in the side to help him on the field. He also stated that Root will be available for him from home despite being away from the team for family reasons.

“I’m going to be very open to opinions from other people and just because Joe isn’t here, that doesn’t mean I’m not going to use him,” Stokes, who will be England’s 81st Test captain, said.

“Joe has always been very open and willing to hear advice from other players so I think I would be stupid to go away from that.

“We’ve got so much experience in this team that it would be silly not to lean on that if I feel as if I need some advice.

“Because of Joe’s personal situation, we’ve been letting him deal with that and I haven’t been on him too much. But I know he’ll be at home watching and his phone will always be available if I need him,” he added.

Root is expected to return for the final two matches of the series which are scheduled to be played at Old Trafford, starting July 16 and July 24 respectively.

Shahid Afridi reveals Sachin Tendulkar scared moment

Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has reiterated that batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was ”scared” to face Shoaib Akhtar in some spells during their famous duels.

“Sachin obviously won’t say it himself that ”I’m scared”. There were some spells from Shoaib Akhtar in which not only Sachin but some of the world’s best also got shaken up,” Afridi told TV anchor Zainab Abbas in a chat on her YouTube channel.

“When you are fielding at mid-off or covers, you can see it. You can sense the body language of a player. You can easily understand that a batsman is under pressure, he is not at his usual best. I’m not saying that Shoaib has scared Tendulkar always but there have been some spells from Shoaib that have pushed some of the world’s best including Tendulkar onto the backfoot,” Afridi said.

WATCH Shahid Afridi Chat with Zainab Abbas

Akhtar got rid of Tendulkar three times in nine Tests and five times in 19 ODIs.

Afridi went on to add that Tendulkar looked scared to face off-spinner Saeed Ajmal too during the 2011 World Cup which India won.

“During the World Cup, he also looked scared of Saeed Ajmal,” Afridi said. “It’s not a big deal, players do feel the pressure at times and it becomes difficult.”

Shahid Afridi’s All-Time XI Cricket team:

The legendary all-rounder from Pakistan, in a career spanning almost two decades, played the game with possibly the best generation of the players. In his XI, Shahid Afridi has included five players of Pakistan, 4 players from Australia and one each from India and South Africa.

Shahid Afridi has chosen his teammate Saeed Anwar along with the fiery Adam Gilchrist to open the innings. While Saeed Anwar is one of the best openers produced by Pakistan, Adam Gilchrist is well known for his exploits in international cricket.

Shahid Afridi has slotted former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar at No.3 and No. 4 respectively. At no.5, Afridi has gone with Inzamam-ul-Haq, a World Cup hero and one of the best middle-order players from Pakistan. South African great Jacques Kallis has been slotted at no. 6 with Rashid Latif donning the gloves at No.7.

As far as the bowling department is concerned, Afridi has picked three fiery speedsters in the form of swing king Wasim Akram, Australian great Glenn McGrath and World’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar along with the legendary Shane Warne to complete the attack.

Here is Shahid Afridi’s All-time XI:

Saeed Anwar, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Jacques Kallis, Rashid Latif (Wk), Wasim Akram, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Shoaib Akhtar.

Sourav Ganguly top 5 moments in cricket carrier

Sourav Ganguly – who turns 48 on Wednesday(08/07/2020) – is credited to have backed and nurtured talent before MS Dhoni took over and transformed the side into title holders. Ganguly – assumed control over the captaincy mantle from Mohammad Azharuddin in 2000 during violent occasions. It was when coordinate fixing had shaken Indian cricket and fans had lost trust from the players.

Ganguly – whose career crossed for 10 years and a half, was known for his fortitude and hostility on-the-field. Ganguly – prominently known as Dada – played 113 Tests for India and scored 7212 runs at an average of 42.17. The left-hander from Kolkata captained India in 49 Test matches and drove India to success in 21 of the said 49 Tests.

Ganguly represents India in 311 ODIs and scored 11363 runs at an amazing average of 41.02 and captained nation in 147 ODIs, winning 76 of them.

As the Bengal Tiger turns 48, here is a gander at the top moment from his renowned:

Dream Start: Making his debut at 24 years old, Ganguly left a mark on the world at Lords turning into the primary Indian and the third cricketer on the world to score a hundred on debut at the notable setting. He scored 131 and it came against a considerable English assault that featured Dominic Cork, Allan Mullally, Peter Martin, and Chris Lewis. He shot to acclaim immediately and turned into the toast of the country.

183 versus Sri Lanka: Ganguly – who was not yet made the captain of the side – crushed a remarkable 183 off 158 balls against Sri Lanka in a World Cup match at Taunton. His runs indeed came against a quality attack including Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan. His rankling 183 included 17 fours and seven sixes. Ganguly – alongside Rahul Dravid put on a mammoth 318-run-remain to assist India with posting 373/6.

Natwest Glory: The Indian cricket crew was not viewed as great explorers, yet things changed in 2002 when Sourav Ganguly drove the side to an insistent success. India beat England in an epic final at Lords. And who can forget Ganguly removing his shirt and waving it from the gallery at Lords?

Sourav Ganguly has expressed his thoughts on 2002 Natwest final against England

Ganguly-Chappell Controversy: Things got ugly for Ganguly – who by then had become a major figure in Indian cricket. Once, previous Australian cricketer, Greg Chappell turned into the mentor of the Indian side – infighting in the dressing-room between the captain and the coach came to the fore in 2005. Soon, Ganguly was stripped of his captaincy and what followed was the exit door.

The Comeback Man: After the sacking of Ganguly, he didn’t surrender, rather he returned to the pound. Ganguly played a bunch of residential matches where he scored runs and persuaded the selectors, that he merited a spot in the side. In 2006, Ganguly was picked for the South Africa tour and he repaid the faith shown to him by the selectors by scoring a gritty 51 in the first Test against a solid South African bowling attack including Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and Andre Nel at the Wanderers.

IPL 2020 : After UAE And Sri Lanka, Now New Zealand Offers to Host Cash Rich League

    0
New Zealand Hasn't Offered to Host IPL 2020
New Zealand Hasn't Offered to Host IPL 2020

New Zealand has offered BCCI to host the annual IPL in case the annual league isn’t held in India due to the rising coronavirus cases in the country. India now has the third-highest cases of coronavirus infections in the world after Brazil and the USA.

New Zealand is the third country after UAE and Sri Lanka to have placed the offer to host the cash-rich tournament.

“Staging the event in India has to be the first choice but in case it is not safe to have it, then we will look at the overseas options. After UAE and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has also offered to host the IPL,” a senior BCCI official told PTI. “We will sit down with all stakeholders (broadcaster, teams, etc) and take a call. The safety of the players is paramount. There will be no compromise on that.”

If IPL does move out this season, it won’t be the first time that it will be staged outside India.

In 2009, due to the general elections in the country, the entire second season was held in South Africa.

In 2014, the opening few matches were held in UAE, again due to general elections in India. However, in 2019, BCCI managed to keep the league in the country despite elections in several states.

Among the three options, UAE seems to be the front-runner but Sri Lanka can also not be ruled out as it can prove to be cost-effective.

Time zone is the biggest issue with New Zealand as India has a seven and half hour time difference with the country. Even if the games are staged there late evenings, it will be 12:30 pm in the afternoon in India meaning office-goers, who may be working from home even, will miss the action.

Meanwhile, the much-awaited meeting of the IPL Governing Council could be announced soon in which the scheduling and issues related to Chinese sponsors could be discussed.

With anti-Chinese sentiments sweeping India after the violent clashes at the Galwan Valley last month, BCCI had announced it will review IPL sponsorship deals.

VIVO, a Chinese phone maker, is IPL’s title sponsor, paying BCCI Rs 440 crore annually as part of the deal till 2022.
