Natarajan Explains Why He Can’t Show Fake Aggression vs Australia

T Natarajan who plays a crucial role in Australia vs India T20I series-winning explains the reason for not showing any aggression while he took the wickets. T Natarajan took 8 wickets while playing 1 ODI and 3 T20I in total in the Australia series.

T Natarajan in Australia vs India Series

One of the striking aspects of Natarajan’s performance in his first trip with Team India has been the calmness he exudes in pressure situations. In particular, he hardly shows ‘aggression’ even after picking crucial wickets. Speaking to Murali Kartik for host broadcaster Sony, Natarajan explained why.

“I have never been aggressive and that’s how I have been since my younger days. I can’t fake aggression. Each time I take a wicket, all that I do is just smile and go,” Natarajan said.

“I’m very happy. Just to get a chance to play against a quality side like Australia has been extraordinary. I have no words to describe the feeling.

“I came here with no expectations. I just wanted to do my work. I anyway came here as a net bowler and got a chance only because of an injury. People here supported me a lot too, they motivated me and I got confidence.”

Natarajan said the key to his performance in Australia vs India was keeping things simple and focusing on execution.

“I always believe in my strength. My strength has always been the ability to bowl those yorkers and cutters. I ask the wicketkeeper and the captain about the wicket and bowl my variations accordingly. I didn’t want to change too much, just wanted to do what I did in the IPL and execute clearly,” he said.

“I have not looked to do anything different from what I did during the IPL. You don’t change too much when something is working for you over a period of time.”

Natarajan’s performance even impressed captain Virat Kohli, who had in a nice gesture passed on the series trophy to the left-arm pacer.

“Special mention to Natarajan — because in the absence of Shami and Bumrah he has been the guy who has stood up and really delivered under pressure. Outstanding for the fact that he is playing the first few games at the international level, looks very composed, he is very sure of what he wants to do,” said Kohli while speaking to reporters after the third T20 International which India lost by 12 runs.

“Natarajan is a very hard-working guy, a humble guy and you feel happy for the guys working hard for results and making the team win. I wish him all the best. Hope he continues to work hard on his game and keep getting better because a left-arm bowler is always an asset for any team. And if he can bowl that well and consistently, it will be a great thing for us heading into World Cup next year,” he said.

Pakistan Cricketers Leaves Quarantine, Set to Train for 1st T20I vs New Zealand

New Zealand vs Pakistan: Pakistan cricketers are set to leave quarantine in Christchurch on Tuesday after testing negative for COVID-19, New Zealand health authorities said.

The visiting Pakistani cricket team has a contingent of more than 50 players and officials have been isolated in their hotel for two weeks and were under strict mandatory isolation under New Zealand’s stringent COVID-19 protocols.

Pakistan cricketers Set to leave the quarantine

Pakistan cricketers have been confined to their rooms and are unable to train for most of that time after 10 coronavirus cases were detected among the group with head coach Misbah-ul-Haq complaining about the ‘mental’ and ‘physical’ impact on his players.

“Top professional athletes require a certain environment to prepare so that they can perform at the minimum expected levels every time they represent their countries,” Misbah said in a statement.

He said Pakistan “respect and understand” the health and safety regulations, but “there is no denying the fact that the implementation of certain regulations has affected our athletes, both mentally and physically prior to an international series”

However, the New Zealand health ministry on Tuesday confirmed that all the latest swabs have come back negative and the majority of the group has been cleared to leave the hardcore quarantine.

“After extensive testing and completion of their time in managed isolation in Christchurch, the Canterbury (district) medical officer of health is satisfied these people pose a very low risk to the community,” it said.

The NZ health ministry said one person will be kept in isolation at the Christchurch quarantine hotel to ensure the recovery from the coronavirus was complete.

Azhar Ali led Pakistan will travel to Queenstown for training ahead of their first T20I of the three-match series against the Black Caps in Auckland on December 18. Both Pakistan and New Zealand will play two Tests after the completion of the T20I series in New Zealand.

Kohli Scripts Record as First Asian Captain to Win Series in all formats in Australia

Indian skipper Virat Kohli emerges as the first Asian captain to script a record by winning the series in all formats in Australia. Virat achieved this feat after beating Australia in the 2nd T20I match against Australia.

Virat Kohli scripts record against Australia

Among various record as player Virat Kohli set a new record against Australia as a captain. Kohli had led India to a 2-1 win in the 2018-19 Test series and followed that up with a 2-1 win in the ODI series. Now under his captaincy, India has gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing T20I series.

While India had drawn the T20 series on that last tour, they managed to clinch it this time by winning the first two matches. The third match takes place on Tuesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

India had won a T20 series in 2016 when MS Dhoni’s side won it 3-0. Dhoni had also led India to a triangular series win in Australia in the 2007-08 season.

Despite bringing India success in white-ball cricket, Dhoni’s team always failer to emulate the same in Test cricket. His team had suffered the embarrassing 4-0 whitewash in the 2011-12 series.

Dhoni also lost the ODI series 4-1 in 2015-16. Dhoni also jointly led the Indian side in the 2014-15 series where India lost 2-0.

It should also be noted, that no other Test-playing nation from Asia – Pakistan, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh have won a series in the longest format Down Under.

    Australia vs India 2nd T20I

India set to chase a mammoth target of 194 in the second T20I against Australia. Shikhar Dhawan’s 52 and captain Virat Kohli’s 40 along with a 22-ball 30 from K.L. Rahul helped India bring the equation down to 14 runs needed off the last over in their chase of a target of 195.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya took the limelight again as he smashed two sixes in the last over to help India win the second T20I of the three-match series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday.

Pandya, who had back-to-back sixes in the second last over bowled by Andrew Tye, was on strike against Daniel Sams and took two runs off the first ball. He then hit the second ball wide of long-on and cleared the boundary.

BCCI plans to host England for a full series across various venues in India. England are scheduled to tour India to play ODI, T20I, and Test match series in India from Feb 2021.

    England tour of India 2021

According to a report in the Daily Mail, talks between the BCCI and the ECB are on in full swing with plans for four Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is to be played in India.

There were suggestions that the teams could be based out of a single city with matches in nearby venues, but the BCCI is planning for a full tour with multiple venues. One of the venues is set to be the newly built stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Test series will begin in February while the white-ball series will be held in March.

Earlier, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had confirmed that the tour will have four Test matches. Earlier BCCI planned to host five Test matches. The decision to scrap a Test has been taken as 2021 will see the ICC T20 World Cup later in the year in India.

Two T20Is have been added to the series, taking the total to five T20s apart from four Tests and three ODIs.

“England is touring India for four Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is,” Ganguly said. “It is easier to have bilaterals than having eight-nine-ten teams, which gets difficult, but we have to keep assessing the situation.

“A lot of people are talking about the second Covid wave. We’re already hearing of cases being on the rise again in Mumbai and Delhi, so we have to be careful and make sure everything is in order.”

Ganguly had said BCCI was working towards having the series and IPL 2021 in India. He also confirmed that UAE will be a backup venue. The UAE had successfully hosted IPL 2020, which Mumbai Indians won.

“The next IPL is five months away and we’re very much trying to have it in India,” Ganguly said. “I always tell people that they need to be here to see what the IPL means to India. We’re also going to be hosting domestic cricket in India.”

Michael Vaughan Heaps Praise on All-Rounder Hardik Pandya

Former England captain Michael Vaughan heaped praise on Hardik Pandya after his massive performance in 2nd T20I vs Australia. India chased a mammoth target of 194 runs where Hardik scored 42 runs off just 22 deliveries.

Post the match Vaughan said Hardik has a great chance to take over from Virat Kohli as the ‘next global superstar’. Especially considering there are two ICC events in India over the next three years. As India holds the right to host 2021 ICC T20 WC and 2023 World cup.

    Michael Vaughan praises Hardik Pandya

The all-rounder Hardik Pandya makes massive runs in the ongoing Australia tour where Hardik scored 90(1st ODI), 28(2nd ODI), 92*(3rd ODI). In the T20 format Hardik scored 19(1st T20I), 42*(2nd T20I).

“He has to look at the next three years. With the next T20 world cup being in India, obviously, the IPL being in India, the next 50-over World Cup is in India in 2023, Hardik Pandya has got a great opportunity to become the next global superstar,” Vaughan said in a video with Cricbuzz.

    Michael Vaughan

MS Dhoni, he had that mantle for many years. Virat Kohli has it now. It’s generally the Indian players that get put onto that pedestal and I think Hardik’s got a chance to be the next superstar.”

    Hardik Pandy Broke his bat

“I am trying to figure out my bats now. My match bat got broken in the first ODI which I was playing for the last three years, so the whole series, all these five games, I have been trying to figure out which bat I should bat with,” said Pandya who hit two sixes to finish the match after India needed 14 in the last over from Australia pace bowler Daniel Sams.

Pandya said that he did not want to leave the game to the last ball and went for the big hits.

“I felt two big hits (would do), since the last couple of games I was not able to connect so I thought a few things before coming to this game, and happy with the way it turned out… More than the six I wanted to finish because I have seen a couple of games, where with 6 off 3 balls, the game can go to the wire and I wanted to finish the game early,” he added.

“Special mention to T Natarajan as well. I thought he should be the Man of the Match because the bowlers struggled here and he had a really good game.”

England all-rounder Tom Curran withdraws from Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL10). After announcing the withdrawal Curran apologised to Sydney Sixers fans for his decision. He said he is feeling the fatigue after playing in biosecurity bubbles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Tom Curran Withdraws from BBL10

Tom Curran’s pull-out comes days after England teammate Tom Banton withdrew from BBL10 side Brisbane Heat for the domestic Twenty20 competition which starts Dec. 10.

“I’m really sorry not to be playing in this year’s Big Bash,” 25-year-old Curran said in a Sixers team release on Monday.

“As you’ll already know, it’s been a very challenging year and I’ve been in (bio-security) bubbles since July.

“I feel very lucky to play for the Sixers. Loved my time with you all over the last two seasons. I can promise you, this decision was not taken lightly.

“I will hopefully be back for many years to come, recharged and ready to go again, but for now I just need some time, normality, see family and be home.”

    Tom Curran

Curran, the Sixers’ top wicket-taker last season, was scheduled to join the team after Christmas after spending two weeks in quarantine upon arrival in Australia.

On Saturday, Banton cited similar reasons for his decision to withdraw from his Brisbane Heat contract for this season.

Both Curran and Banton were part of England’s white-ball squads before heading to the IPL in the UAE. They were in South Africa where COVID-19 outbreaks have disrupted England’s tour.

    The Sixers support Curran’s decision

After announcing his decision Sydney Sixers shows their support for his decision ahead of the BBL10 season.

“The varying conditions we are asking our players to play cricket in worldwide is taking its toll and we understand Tom’s need for a break over this BBL season,” Sixers General Manager Jodie Hawkins said.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli set new records as captain after the T20I series win against Australia. In the tour of Australia India set to play 3 ODIs, 3 T20I’s, and 4 Test match series.

    Australia vs India

India continued its aggressive impact by winning the first 2 T20I matches. The back to back victories made India to claim their T20I trophy. Indian debut player T Natarajan strengthened the Indian bowling unit by uprooting crucial wickets in both ODI and T20I.

With the massive run chase in the second T20I India register their victory in the T20I series against Australia.

Virat Kohli new Records as Indian Captain

With the T20I series victory against Australia, Virat Kohli set a few new records as a captain. Virat became the first India captain to win the T20I series in South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia (SENA countries).

MS Dhoni had led India to wins in South Africa and Australia but series victories had eluded him as skipper in England and New Zealand.

However, under Virat Kohli, India won the T20I series in South Africa and England in 2018. Earlier this year, India registered a 5-0 clean sweep against New Zealand in New Zealand. The win in the ongoing series in Australia helped the India skipper complete the quartet.

Also, Virat Kohli has become the first India captain and the second overall after Faf du Plessis to lead a team to series wins in all 3 formats in Australia. Kohli helped India to a historic Test series win in 2018-19 after which they registered an ODI series win as well.

IPL 2021 Will Rolls Out with New Format as BCCI is on Verge to Add 2 more Teams

BCCI is eyeing to host the IPL 2021 with a new format in the league matches. The decision comes after the BCCI’s decision of adding two more teams in IPL 2021.

    IPL 2021 Mega Auction date

Post the IPL 2020 the major talk start to arises on behalf of the IPL 2021 mega auction date. If BCCI plans to add additional teams then the mega auction will be the possible solution for the board.

BCCI is in the mood to arrange the mega auction before the IPL 2021 as it had added to the AGM agenda. Hence, fans will get the confirmed news about the mega auctions just after finishing the AGM at the end of December. Regarding the IPL 2021 mega auction, a trustworthy report suggests that

“Time constraints are there but the full auction will be in the interest of everyone. IPL Governing Council will formally decide on this in next 3-4 weeks and communicate to everyone concerned,” a person in the know of things told Insidesport on condition of anonymity.

Possible new teams in IPL 2021

As per the latest reports, Adani Group owned by Gautam Adani and RPSG owned by Sanjeev Goenka are the frontline contenders for the two new IPL teams.

There isn’t any conclusive evidence yet, but Adani Group and Goenka Group are the frontrunners to buy the ninth and tenth teams of IPL 2021.

Adani’s in the past have shown their interest in buying an IPL team. With Ahmedabad now boasting of the biggest cricket stadium across the world, their interest will grow manifolds.

Goenka, on the other hand, had been the owner of Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) in the past and will surely throw their hat in the ring when BCCI comes out with a tender.

    Rising Pune Supergiant
    Rising Pune Supergiant

    New format for IPL 2021

The new format will be followed after BCCI’s approval of the new two teams to play in IPL 2021. The addition of two more teams will increase the number of league matches to play on compared to the latest edition of playing with 8 teams.

According to a report, there will be a change in the IPL format from the 2021 edition as the organising committee is eyeing to go back to 2011 when ten teams used to participate in the tournament.

As per the new format, the ten teams will be divided into two groups of five each. All the sides will play 13 matches in the league stage – facing the other four teams in their group twice (home and away game) and competing against the five teams from another group once.

Currently, eight teams lock horns with each other twice in the league stage before the top four makes it to the playoffs. So, the number of matches for each team in the round-robin format will increase to 18 from 14 if two more teams are added in the T20 extravaganza leading to a lengthy IPL.

South Africa vs England 2nd ODI has postponed due to ‘unconfirmed’ positive COVID-19 tests. After the completion of 3 T20I matches, the Proteas has scheduled to play three ODI matches against England.

The initial match of the series has postponed before an hour of the match. Owing to one of the SA players tests positive for COVID-19. The second match of the series also faces the same due to ‘unconfirmed’ positive COVID-19 tests.

South Africa vs England 2nd ODI Postponed

Cricket South Africa and the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a joint statement that the decision had been taken while they “await the outcome of the independent ratification of the two unconfirmed positive COVID-19 tests from the England camp and the continued health and wellbeing of both playing groups”.

“Once the findings of this review have been received, CSA and ECB will then discuss how best to proceed concerning the remaining two matches of this ODI series,” the statement added.

CSA said the England players and management underwent an additional round of tests on Saturday evening. This happens after two members of staff at their hotel tested positive for the virus.

The staffs were tested after it emerged that the unnamed South African player had tested positive despite reportedly not having left his team’s “bubble”.

Mike Atherton fears on series cancellation

Former England captain Mike Atherton, now a commentator and journalist, had said he feared the entire series could be under threat after Sunday’s match was cancelled.

    Mike Atherton

Atherton said the new positive cases had “ramped up” the concern that the England camp already felt after the opening match was postponed.

“Certainly this match is off and I would be pessimistic about the other games,” said Atherton.

SA vs ENG 1st ODI cancelled

Three Twenty20 internationals were played before the latest scare. The second and third one-day internationals were scheduled to be played at Newlands in Cape Town on Monday and Wednesday.

Sunday’s opener was cancelled after it was initially announced that the start at Boland Park in Paarl would be delayed while the England party awaited the test results.

SA vs ENG 1st ODI cancelled
SA vs ENG 1st ODI cancelled

Graeme Smith, CSA’s director of cricket, said he was “deeply regretful” that the match could not go ahead “given the amount of time and energy that has been put in place to host a successful tour”.

Both teams are staying in what was labelled a “bio-secure environment” in a Cape Town hotel.

The teams checked in to the hotel on 18 November, although they stayed in separate areas. One South African player was found to be positive in tests conducted when the players arrived.

He and two other players who were said to have had close contact with the infected player were placed in isolation.

Two days later a second player tested positive. Who has been part of the “bubble”. The planned intra-squad practice matches later cancelled.

All the remaining South Africans came through a fresh round of tests a day before the first of three Twenty20 internationals. Which played without any health issues.

But alarm bells went off when a new positive diagnosis involving a South African player. Which received on Friday, leading to the initial postponement. The match postponed an hour before the scheduled start, of the first one-day international.

SA team doctor Shuaib Manjra said after Friday’s postponement that he was concerned about a possible breach of the bio-secure bubble. He said he was surprised because he had confidence in the arrangements around the tour.

All the SA players were tested again on Friday evening. It was announced on Saturday that all had returned negative results and that the series would start on Sunday.

What if South Africa vs England series cancelled

The possible cancellation of the remaining matches will have serious implications for cash-strapped Cricket South Africa who were due to earn a reported $4.2 million (3.46 million euros) for the television rights.

Brisbane Batsman Tom Banton Withdraws from BBL10 for THIS Reason

England and Brisbane Heat batsman Tom Banton has decided to withdraw from the BBL10. The 10th edition of BBL has scheduled to begin on December 10.

    Tom Banton withdraw from BBL10

With less than a week ahead, Tom Banton has decided to withdraw from the tournament owing to bio bubble fatigue.

The England batsman has been under bio bubble restrictions since England’s home summer and throughout the IPL 2020 in the UAE, where he represented the Kolkata Knight Riders.

“It has been harder than I thought, spending so much time in the hubs and bubbles, and I came to the realisation that it wasn’t doing me much good. I know the Heat looked after me really well during the BBL last year and I was confident that they would understand when I spoke to Boof (coach Darren Lehmann) and Lynny (captain Chris Lynn) about going home to regroup,” Banton said in a statement released by the club.

“I’d like to thank the fans and members who are getting ready to support the Heat during the tournament and pass on my regrets to them that I won’t be there. I will miss playing in front of the crowds at the Gabba and the Gold Coast who were so passionate about the Heat and hope that I can repeat that experience again in the future.”

Brisbane Heat head coach Darren Lehmann’s view

Banton, who is still in a 2-year contract extension with Brisbane Heat, is set to return for the next BBL season. The 22-year-old right-handed batsman had the full support of the Heat head coach Darren Lehmann.

    Darren Lehmann
    Darren Lehmann

“Look firstly Tom is a terrific young man. He’s an impressive person and someone who we know would not have made a decision like this lightly and not without a great deal of soul-searching. After speaking with him at length, the best option for him is to head home to his family and loved ones and give himself every chance to recover. We’ve always been strong as a club that your family comes first and so we back his decision 100 percent and hope he is feeling restored and mended very soon,” Lehmann said.

“It is a very challenging time for many people and cricket is no exception. There is no normality or work-life balance which is so important, especially in elite sport. The well-being of the players is paramount and I am sure everyone – fans, coaches, administrators, sponsors – recognizes that. We shouldn’t be critical of individuals making tough decisions so the best thing to do is to support them and back them.

“It’s a setback for us, but we know there are people in our group, or those coming into our squad, who can rise to the occasion,” he added.

This was the 2nd setback for Brisbane Heat. As they confirmed spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman testing positive for coronavirus on Friday.

Virender Sehwag Backs India’s Decision of Jadeja-Chahal Substitution

    0
Jadeja Injured in 1st T20I against Australia

Indian former cricketer Virender Sehwag backs India’s decision of concussion substitute of Chahal for Jadeja in the first T20I against Australia. In the first T20I against Australia, Jadeja has ruled out in the second innings owing to an injury he faced in the last over of the 1st innings.

Jadeja was consequently replaced by concussion substitute Yuzvendra Chahal, who proved crucial for India with his impressive figures of 3/25 in the first T20I.

Australian side were not very much pleased with India’s move. But the 42 year old former Indian opener opined that India were absolutely right in replacing Chahal in Jadeja’s place.

Sehwag on concussion substitute for Jadeja

“From our side, it was a right decision as Ravindra Jadeja was not fit to play and could not bowl as well,” Sehwag, who is an expert on ‘Sony Six’, said.

“It was an opportunity which India got because he was hit on the head and when you are hit on the head, nobody can say that concussion will happen at that time. It takes time. You might get symptoms within 24 hours.”

Sehwag feels that Australians shouldn’t be complaining as they were the first beneficiaries of the concussion substitute rule.

Chahal gets in as concussion substitute for Jadeja
Chahal gets in as concussion substitute for Jadeja

“When Steve Smith was hit on the head, Labuschagne came out to bat in place of him and made runs. So, Australia also got that advantage. So I think Australia shouldn’t complain.

“They might have just one contention that Jadeja continued to bat and made runs but when you open your helmet inside the dressing room then you might witness some swelling, you might feel dizziness. There is a possibility.”

“I was hit on the helmet many times so I know how it feels but during our times there were no such rules.”

Sanjay Manjrekar questions on Indian physio

Ravindra Jadeja has a trainer tend to his leg during a break in batting against Australia.

Indian physio Nitin Patel’s absence on the field of play just after Ravindra Jadeja got hit on the head by a Mitchell Starc bouncer in the final over of the innings is a “breach” of concussion protocol, feels former India batsman-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar.

Jadeja injured in 1st T20 vs Australia
Jadeja injured in 1st T20 vs Australia

    Did India breached ICC protocol?

“There is one important breach of protocol that has happened,” Manjrekar said on ‘Sony Six’ on Friday. “I am sure the match referee will raise with India but one of the main things with that protocol, the moment you get hit on the head, they (physio) have to spend time with the batsman out there, asking how he feels.

“The physio (Nitin Patel in this case) has to come in and there are a certain set of questions that need to be asked. With Jadeja, it just happened, there was hardly any delay and he continued playing,” Manjrekar said.

    Tom Moody too raised question

In fact, former Australia cricketer Tom Moody also raised doubts about severity of Jadeja’s injury since it didn’t require medical attention.

    Tom Moody
    Tom Moody

“I have no issue with Jadeja being substitute (sic) with Chahal. But I do have an issue with a Doctor & Physio not being present after Jadeja was struck on the helmet which I believe is protocol now?” asked former Australia cricketer Tom Moody, who is now a coach and a commentator.

Manjrekar on his part said that Jadeja continuing to bat didn’t give any massive advantage to India as they added only nine runs after that but credibility of his injury can be questioned.

    Sanjay manjrekar
    Sanjay manjrekar

“He added just 9 runs, it wasn’t a massive advantage. But after that (hit), there should have been at least 2-3 minutes where India support staff should have come out. And then it would have looked a little more credible.”

However, Manjrekar agreed that match referee David Boon had no option but to allow India a concussion substitute.

“I would say one thing though, David Boon had no choice but to give India the concussion substitute because he would not have the courage to say he wouldn’t allow it because, at the time of impact, no attention was given,” he said.

“He had to give the concussion substitute once the request was made.”
