Shoaib Akhtar Urge PCB to not Waste a Bowler like Amir

Shoaib Akhtar backs Mohammad Amir who recently announced his retirement. Amir highlights that mental torture imposed by PCB is the sole reason for this drastic move.

    Akhtar on Amir retirement

Akhtar has urged the board to not waste a bowler like Amir. In a tweet, he also said that if given a chance, he can do wonders with the left-armer.

“Give @iamamirofficial under me and then see the wonders he does on the ground. Na zaaya kerain us ko,” Shoaib Akhtar.

Amir, who had earlier announced Test retirement in June 2019 said, that he doesn’t want to play under the current PCB regime. He went on to say that he got a wake-up call when he was ignored for the series against New Zealand.

    Amir announced his retirement

Mohammed Amir announced his retirement on December 17 2020 which was later shared by Pakistan journalist Shoaib Jatt.

“No, I am not going away from cricket. If you have seen the way the atmosphere over here and the way I have been sidelined. I got a wake-up call there when I was not selected in 35 boys. If I don’t get selected in the 35-member squad, then it means to wake up call for me,” Amir said in a video shared by Pakistan journalist Shoaib Jatt on social media.

“I don’t think I can play cricket under this management. I think I should leave cricket this time and i am being tortured mentally.

“I don’t think I can tolerate any more torture now i have seen a lot of torture from 2010 to 2015. I was away from the game and sentenced for my mistake i am being tortured again and again that PCB invested in me.

I still give credit to the two people from PCB. I returned after completing the sentence of five years. Not that I returned after a year. Sethi Sahab and Shahid Afridi, were the two people whom I will thank forever. Both of them supported me at a tough time. The rest of the team said that we will not play with Mohammad Amir,” Amir said.

Meanwhile, PCB said, “This is a personal decision of Mohammad Amir, which the PCB respects, and as such, will not make any further comment on this matter at this stage,” PCB said in a statement on Thursday.

VVS Laxman Analyses Virat Kohli and Suggest a Couple of Advice

    0
    VVS Laxman advices Virat Kohli
    VVS Laxman advices Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricketer and star batsman VVS Laxman analyses current Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Laxman knows a thing or two about playing Down Under Kohli.  In his time, VVS Laxman has managed to showcase resilience and patience when he faced the Aussies on more than one occasion.

The most unforgettable of them all will have to be the patient 281 he scored alongside Rahul Dravid (180) to snatch victory from the Aussies during the March 2001 Kolkata Test. India went on to win the match by 171 runs after being given a follow on.

Speaking exclusively on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, former Team India batsman VVS Laxman analyses Virat Kohli’s captaincy and areas in leadership he needs to improve ahead of the Test series against Australia.

    VVS Laxman on Virat Kohli

“I think he has done a fantastic job for Team India as a Test match captain. If you see, for four years, the Indian team was the No. 1 Test-playing nation in world cricket. Only this year, Australia took over as the No. 1 Test-playing nation.

    Virat Kohli
    Virat Kohli

What I really like is that he leads by example and that’s what you want to see from a leader. The way he creates the value system, the way he creates the culture within the team.

I mentioned so many times, the intensity and the body language he shows when he’s on the field, whether he’s batting or fielding, I think he leads by example and that is so infectious. It rubs off on all of his team-mates and that’s why he’s a perfect role model of how a captain should be.”

“Yes, there have been certain things which he requires to improve and as we all know, till you hang your boots, everyone requires to introspect and get better. There’s still work-in-progress as far as captaincy is concerned.

Laxman wants Kohli to improve in these two

Couple of things I think Virat Kohli can improve. When we covered the Indian team matches, there were certain times when I felt that he becomes little defensive, especially with his field changes.

    Virat Kohli test debut
    Virat Kohli

When a new batsman comes in and two quality spinners are bowling, he has a fielder in the deep, allowing the batsman to easily get his eye in and probably rotate the strike. So, sometimes probably that is one thing which I feel Virat Kohli can improve on.

The second thing is chopping and changing the playing 11. With experience, I can say that any player, whether experienced or a newcomer, wants that stability, security so that he can focus on performing to the best of his abilities for the team. That’s something which Virat Kohli can definitely improve on,” Laxman added.

VVS Laxman also went on to highlight the biggest challenges Team India could face in the opening Pink Ball Test at Adelaide that begins from December 17th, “I think it’s the batting line-up and it’s the opening combination.

When we see the practice games, I was surprised that KL Rahul was not playing the only practice match with the Pink Ball. That means he is not in the fray as far as the first Test is concerned, which means it has to be decided between Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill.

Prithvi Shaw, low in confidence, Shubman Gill hasn’t played a single Test match, so inexperience is there as far as the opening partner, who is going to open with Mayank Agarwal. So, that’s the biggest question I feel Virat Kohli has in front of him.”

Mohammad Amir Announces his Retirement from International Cricket

Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday(17-12-2020). Earlier in 2019, Mohammad Amir announced his retirement from Test Cricket in July 2019. He played a total of 36 tests since his debut in 2009.

    Mohammad Amir Debut

    T20I

Amir made his debut in 2009 ICC World Twenty20 against England on 7 June, when he was just 17 years old. He took his first international wicket on his very second ball and conceded only 1 run in his first over.

    ODI

After his successful World Twenty20 tournament, he made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 30 July 2009, taking 3 wickets and also scoring 23 runs. In an ODI game against New Zealand, he scored 73*, batting at number 10 which was a world record at that time.

    Test

He made his test debut in July 2009 against Sri Lanka. In his first Test against Sri Lanka, he took 6 wickets, and later against Australia, he led his team to the victory, which was Pakistan’s sole Test victory against the men from Down Under in 15 years.

He took 7 wickets in the match and awarded Man of the match. Amir became the youngest bowler to reach 50 wickets in Test cricket. Mohammad Amir announced his test retirement in July 2019 inorder to focus on limited over format.

Reason for Amir’s ban from cricket

However, his career faced a downward spiral when he was banned for five years over his involvement in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal during the tour of England in 2010.

In August 2010, the English newspaper published allegations that Amir and fellow bowler Mohammad Asif deliberately bowled no-balls during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England in return for payment from a betting syndicate.

    Amir’s Carrier After the Ban

On 29 January 2015, ICC gave him permission to play domestic cricket before the official expiration of the ban. As a result, Chittagong Vikings signed him for the 2015 Bangladesh Premier League.

He was also acquired by Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League and took a hat-trick in 2016. Amir also represented Essex in the 2017 English county season.

    International comeback

Amir made his comeback to international cricket in the tour of New Zealand in 2016 where he finished with 5 wickets in 2 matches. 2016 Asia Cup was a turning point in Amir’s career as he was the pick of the bowlers.

His best performance came against India when he reduced the Men in Blue to 8 for 3 while defending just 83 runs. Virat Kohli was so impressed with his performance that he gifted his bat to Amir after the game.

    2017 Champions Trophy

Amir played a leading role in Pakistan’s formidable pace attack and helped the side won its maiden International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy title back in 2017. Playing in the final, he took the wicket of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Virat Kohli in quick succession. It was his dream spell which won the trophy for his team.

    2019 World Cup

In May 2019, he was named in Pakistan’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, after PCB named their final fifteen-man squad for the tournament. On 12 June 2019, in the match against Australia, Amir took his first five-wicket haul in ODIs.

He finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker for Pakistan, with 17 dismissals in eight matches.

Mushfiqur Rahim hits social media for his rude behavior against his teammate Nasum Ahmed. The incident took place in the eliminator game between Beximco Dhaka and Fortune Barishal.

Nasum Ahmed and Mushfiqur Rahim – Rude behavior

The incident happened in the 17th over of the second innings when the opposition — Fortune Barishal — needed 45 runs off 19 deliveries. On the last ball of the over, Afif Hossain lofted the ball over fine-leg, hoping to grab a boundary and ease the required run-rate.

Both Mushfiqur and Nasum ran in for the catch and were almost going to collide when the former plucked the ball. However, in the heat of the moment, Mushfiqur, upset with Nasum, almost hit him in anger.

    Mushfiqur Rahim Apologises

Following the incident, Mushfiqur has been fined 25 percent of the match fee, having found guilty of showing insulting gestures towards Nasum. The BCB issued a statement mentioning that it constitutes a Level 1 (2.6) offense. Additionally, one demerit point has been added to Mushfiqur’s disciplinary record.

Mushfiqur also issued a public apology on social media, saying that his gesture towards Nasum Ahmed was not acceptable. He also promised to not repeat it in the future.

    Another incident took place earlier

The incident took place in the 13th over of the innings when Nasum Ahmed was in the middle of the second over of his spell. Afif Hossain came down the track to play the ball towards the vacant mid-wicket region and aimed for a couple.

To stop the opposition batsmen from running two, both Mushfiqur Rahim and Nasum ran towards the ball and the former was successful in keeping them down to a single.

The Dhaka skipper then gestured to the batsmen as if he is throwing the ball and for some reason, turned to the bowler Nasum and repeated the action as if he was going to hit him.

The actions were similar to what transpired later in the 17th over and it seemed as if he was not happy with the bowler itself.

It’s not new with respect to Bangladesh cricket, quite a similar situation happened during Under-19 Final between India and Bangladesh.

Sachin Tendulkar Backs Ajinkya Rahane Ahead of Test Series vs Australia

Indian legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar backs Ajinkya Rahane ahead of the first test match against Australia. India is set to play 4 test matches against Australia scheduled to start from December 17.

Virat Kohli is set to leave to India to be with his wife for their first baby birth. Sachin believes that Ajinkya Rahane will do a great job as India captain when Virat Kohli leaves after the first Test match in Adelaide.

In Kohli’s absence  Vice-captain, Rahane will then step in as the captain for the remaining three matches.

    Sachin on Captain Ajinkya Rahane

Tendulkar, who captained India in 25 tests before standing down to focus on his batting, backed fellow Mumbai cricketer Rahane to successfully step into Kohli’s shoes as skipper.

    Ajinkya Rahane
    Ajinkya Rahane

“I’ve seen Ajinkya lead earlier. He’s quite a calm, composed guy, balanced guy. He’s aggressive but he’s in control,” Tendulkar told Reuters.

“I’ve seen him closely, he’s someone who wants to learn, who wants to grasp as many things as possible. I find him a very sincere, hardworking player.”

Tendulkar is confident India have the batting depth and talent to overcome the absences of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in their four-test series against Australia.

“Our batting has enough depth,” the 47-year-old, who remains the most prolific run-scorer in tests, said by telephone late on Tuesday.

“Rohit wasn’t there in New Zealand also, it’s not the first time that we are traveling without Rohit.

“Nothing is guaranteed … sometimes players get injured and are ruled out of a tournament or an entire series. One has to be prepared to play without whoever that individual is.

“Eventually it is about the team, not about individuals.”

Tendulkar expects batting to decide the series and said building partnerships would be crucial for both sides as their bowling strengths are evenly matched.

Australia vs India last Test series

In 2018, India defeated an Australian side without Steve Smith and David Warner, who were serving bans from a ball-tampering scandal, and Tendulkar said their return, plus the emergence of Marnus Labuschagne, would be made this series more difficult for the tourists.

    India won a four-Test series in Australia(2-1) in 2018-19
    India won a four-Test series in Australia(2-1) in 2018-19

“If you look at Australia’s batting lineup, it is far better than last time,” he added.

“They have more experience. Last time the experience element was missing, it was evident.”

Another concern for Tendulkar is that the series opens with the day-night match in Adelaide from Thursday, India’s first test since February and only their second ever under the lights.

“The last test should have been the pink ball match so that gradual transition is there,” he said.

“We haven’t played test cricket for 10 months and now the first test match that we will play will be with pink ball. Ideally players would have found a normal test match an easier transition maybe.”

New Zealand Pacer Lockie Ferguson Ruled Out of Pakistan Series

New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson ruled out of the home series versus Pakistan owing to a partial stress fracture to his lumbar spine. The injury will require four to six weeks of rest before returning to training, New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Wednesday (December 16).

Lockie Ferguson Ruled Out of Pakistan Series

The injury to the left side of his back surfaced after the recent T20I series against the West Indies and subsequent scans and imaging later confirmed the partial fracture.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead said it was a blow to lose Ferguson, but he backed him to come back as soon as possible.

“We’re all really feeling for Lockie. Injuries are certainly part of our sport, but to get something like this when you’re at the very top of your game is especially disappointing.

“The pace and skill he’s been able to consistently produce has made him one of the very best white-ball bowlers in the world and a huge asset.

“Lockie has a great attitude and I know he’s up for the fight so he’ll get stuck into the rehab and we’re still hopeful he may get back on the park at the back end of summer,” New Zealand coach Gary Stead said in a statement.

The New Zealand cricket board added in a statement that he will however not need any surgery.

Ferguson has also been ruled out of the upcoming T20 and Test series against Pakistan, which starts in Auckland on Friday. His injury had come to light after the T20I series against West Indies.

    Huge setback for New Zealand

Just earlier this week, Pakistan head coach Misbah-ul-Haq had said that Lockie Ferguson would be a major threat for his batsmen in the upcoming series against New Zealand.

    New Zealand
    New Zealand

“If New Zealand have [Lockie] Ferguson as their main pacer who clocked around 150 kph, then we have three to four fast bowlers with a similar knack. If they think they can challenge us with pace then they also have to face the same challenge as well,” Misbah had said.

New Zealand will play three T20s and two Tests against Pakistan, after which they face Australia at home in a five-match T20 series starting in late February.

The ‘Black Caps’ then host Bangladesh in a limited-overs series comprising three one-day internationals and three T20s that ends on March 28.

Sachin Recalls 1st Meeting with Australian Legend Cricketer Don Bradman

Sachin explains on 1st meeting with Don Bradman

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar recalled his first meeting with Don Bradman and how nervous Shane Warne was on the way to the legend’s house in Adelaide in 1998.

“It was a big moment because I still remember from the hotel, Warnie was with me. Warnie was driving and he said ‘I am tensed, I am worried, what to talk to him about batting? You’re a batter, so you need to talk to him.’

    Sachin on meeting Don Bradman

Tendulkar and Warne met the former Australia captain after getting an invitation from Bradman himself on his 90th birthday on August 27. Tendulkar revealed how Warne was driving the car they were in and was really nervous about what to talk to Bradman about.

    Sachin Tendulkar
    Sachin Tendulkar

“I said, ‘no, Aussie first’. I told him to start the conversation and I would follow up. So Shane Warne went inside and started talking a little bit.

“Obviously, the natural question was ‘Sir Don, if you were batting in today’s era, what would you have averaged?’. He took about 10 seconds to think and said ‘maybe around 70’. The obvious reaction was ‘why only 70? Why not 99?’.

“He said ‘common kid, it’s not bad for a 90-year-old man’. That was his response. He enjoyed watching cricket. He was up with the game. Those were special moments,” Tendulkar told Boria Majumdar on India Today.

Bradman was special and nobody has ever been able to accumulate as many runs in such a consistent basis over his or her playing career. But, Tendulkar, often pitted against Bradman for the tag of ‘greatest-ever’, comes the closest to him, according to the great man himself.

“I saw him playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I felt that this player is playing with a style similar to mine, and she looked at the TV and said yes, there is a similarity between the two…his compactness, technique, stroke production – it all seemed to gel,” Bradman once famously said about Tendulkar.

    Don Bradman’s test carrier

Bradman called time on his international career in 1948 and earned knighthood the very next year in March. He finished with 52 Tests for Australia and amassed 6996 runs with the highest score of 334 runs at an average of 99.94 — which has remained out of reach of any batsman till date, who has retired.

    Player of the Match

    Peter Siddle

Disappointing with the way we started, we got the first game out of the way, a lot more improved tonight, still a bit to work on, but a good improvement. I probably enjoyed a bit more tonight with not having to worry about the captaincy. It helped my bowling as well. Nice night, great to contribute, hopefully, I continue.

“I will to have Hardik Pandya in the Test side. It’s bit of a surprise. I love him and I have said weeks ago that he is one of my top three players on the planet. I love him. He is awesome and he certainly did what he did in the T20Is and one-dayers. Now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and saying ‘how good is Hardik Pandya’.

“I would love to see him the Test team, he is in such great form. With the loss of Virat Kohli, he brings a lot of things on the table — batting and maybe few over of bowling. I think he helps the Indian team walk a bit taller. He is a bit of a rockstar. He has got that swagger, he is ‘Mr cool’, when he speaks you think he is from the West Indies.

“You think he has just come off a beach in Antigua. He is cool. I want him to bat at 6 or at 7 after Rishabh Pant at 6. Hopefully, he will be back in the Test squad when he is back bowling full time. India have got so much of depth that it’s going to be a good side,” Shane Warne said ahead of the first India versus Australia Test from December 17.
