England captain Joe Root says any of the players on the forthcoming test tour of Sri Lanka who feels they are not in the right place mentally are free to return home.

Team England leaves for Sri Lanka on Saturday and due to the coronavirus pandemic will be in a two-week bubble in Hambantota ahead of the two Tests in Galle.

Head coach Chris Silverwood has for the first time decided to bring on the tour a psychologist, James Bickley.

Joe Root permits England players to skip Sri Lanka Test Tour

“There’s going to be a little bit of extra support for the players in terms of a psychologist on the ground at all times making sure there’s someone to speak to,” said Root at his pre-tour press conference.

“Everyone is very aware that if at any stage it becomes too much they are entitled to get out and that’s an important thing to remember.

“It’s important they can say if they don’t feel they’re in the right space physically or mentally to go out and represent their country.”

    Joe Root on Bio-Secure Life

Root, who turned 30 on Wednesday and joked he is “waiting for his hair to fall out”, said his team-mates should not hide away if they are feeling blue.

“As players, you have a responsibility to speak up, not just use the staff but the other guys around you as well,” he said.

“As captain that’s a big part of my role to make sure people are comfortable in the environment, in a position to be at the top of their game and play Test cricket to the best of their ability.

“It’s a huge part of the role anyway but it’s certainly heightened more in times like these.”

Root said the players were learning all the time how to operate under the strict restrictions imposed during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Unfortunately the last two tours haven’t been able to be fulfilled as we would like but there is more information now and each time we go away we learn more,” he said.

“Throughout the summer we learned a huge amount on bubble life, how we need to do things to make sure everyone is as safe as possible.”

What if England Players test COVID-19 Positive

Root said that even if some of the players do test positive on tour they may be able to play even without them.

“Wherever we are going to be we are going to be in contact with it in some way shape or form,” he said.

“If you look around the rest of the world other teams, when they have travelled, have had to deal with cases on tour and that might be the case for us.

“We’ll have to manage as best we can. “South Africa was a unique situation and this will be different again. “We are fully aware of what we are going into.”

Did Indian Cricketers Breach Bio-Secure Bubble in Australia? BCCI Answers

    0
Did Indian cricketers breached Australia's bio secure bubble?
Did Indian cricketers breached Australia's bio secure bubble?

Have few Indian star Cricketers breached the bio secure bubble in Australia? This is the question that is doing the round after Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Navdeep Saini were recently spotted by a fan in a restaurant in Melbourne.

The Indian cricket team is currently presided over Australia to play 3 ODI, 3 T20I, and 4 Test match series. Both the teams are currently in bio-secure bubbles as Australian states have come up with new stricter border restrictions in the wake of a recent COVID-19 outbreak.

A Fan paid the bill for Indian Cricketers

At a time when nobody from outside is permitted inside the bio secure bubble even after a three-day quarantine period, the players visiting a restaurant will definitely raise a number of eyebrows.

A fan named Navaldeep Singh spotted them and paid their bill as well. He posted the picture of the players and also narrated the whole incident on his Twitter handle as it went viral on social media. The players also clicked a picture with him and moreover, Rishabh Pant hugged him.

Did Indian Cricketers breach Bio secure prototype?

But it seems that Indian cricketers have breached the bio secure bubble protocols established by Cricket Australia. The players and staff from both the teams have to follow strict measures to minimize the chances of the series getting affected. They are allowed to eat out but were told to be seated outdoors.

In a different tweet, he revealed how the entire episode unfolded. When the players got to know about the fan paying the bill for them, Rohit Sharma asked him to take the money. However, the fan declined and asked for a photo before hearing a hilarious comment from Pant.

The India wicketkeeper told him that he would get a photo only if takes the money back. The fan, however, declined again before Pant hugged him. Team India stars then obliged for the photo before walking away.

    BCCI Starts to investigate

However, the staff at Secret Kitchen at Chadstone Shopping Centre, where the players dined, confirmed to Sydney Morning Herald that the Indian cricketers were seated indoors.

The BCCI is now reviewing the video which has gone viral even as the board’s spokesman declined to comment on the matter as of now. Even CA is yet to come out and open up on the same yet.

Indian Cricketers followed the protocol – BCCI Finalized

A BCCI source told “Rohit, Gill, Pant, Saini, and Shaw followed all the necessary protocols and their temperature was checked. There’s nothing to make an issue out of it, the fan has confessed that he said Pant hugged him out of excitement.”

    Five Indian players Isolated

Though BCCI didn’t give any official statement on this incident CA took it as a serious concern and come forward by taking steps.

The players – Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, and Navdeep Saini – have been separated from the Indian and Australian squads but will still train “in accordance with the strict protocols that have been put in place to ensure the ongoing safety of all members of the Indian and Australian squads,” said a Cricket Australia statement on Saturday night.

“The BCCI and CA are investigating the matter and seeking to determine whether the outing constitutes a breach of biosecurity protocols.

“In the interim, on the advice of the Australian and Indian medical teams, the aforementioned players have been placed in isolation as a precaution. This will include separating the group of players from the broader Indian and Australian squads when traveling and at the training venue.”

On hearing this news fans start to get panic regarding their superstars participation in the 3rd test match vs Australia. With still 5 days for the 3rd test match the isolation of the key Indian players loads tension over the fans.

Team India loses the ODI trophy and lifts the T20I trophy while equals the four test matches as 1-1 yet 2 matches to play in the series.

While the third test match scheduled to play on January 7, 2021, some of the Indian cricketers paid a visit to the local hotel nearby.

Players including Rishabh Pant, Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Prithvi Shaw are the players who made it to the hotel. An Indian cricket fan paid their hotel bill of AUD 118 to show his gratitude towards them.

He took a video of the players sitting near his table and posted it on his Twitter account. Soon the video went viral.

The uploader soon made a thread of content regarding this wonderful incident. In the first post of his video uploading, he mentioned as “Bc mere saamne waale table par gill pant sharma saini fu*****”

He also mentioned that his favorite players had no idea regarding who cleared their bill amount. He writes as “They are not aware but I have paid their table bill 🙂 . Least i can do for my superstars”.

Indian Cricketers thanked in their style

“When they got know that i have paid the bill.. Rohit Sharma said bhaji pese lelo yaar acha nai lagta.. i said no sir its on me. Pant hugged me and said photo tabhi hogi jab pese loge wapis. I said no bro not happening. Finally sabane photo khichwai 🙂 mja aa gya yaar” #blessed

T Natarajan has been named as the replacement player for the injured Umesh Yadav for the remaining two test matches against Australia. Ahead of the 3rd test against Australia Umesh has been ruled out owing to a strain in his left calf muscle happened on the third day of the 2nd Test in Melbourne.

T Natarajan Names as Replacement for Umesh Yadav

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on Friday through a statement in which it stated that Umesh Yadav had sustained a strain in his left calf muscle during the second test match against Australia.

Owing to the seriousness of the injury Indian roped in T Natarajan to replace Umesh Yadav in the 3rd and 4th test match against Australia.

“The fast bowler will not recover completely ahead of the remaining two Test matches and has been ruled out of the series. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named T Natarajan as Yadav’s replacement,” the statement said.

Mohammed Shami Ruled Out of Australia Test series

It added that Mohammed Shami has also been ruled out for the rest of the series due to a hairline fracture in his right forearm and Shardul Thakur has been announced as the replacement for Shami.

Shami and Yadav will be returning to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for the rehabilitation of their injuries.

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will join the Test team as its vice-captain. The Indian opener was not part of the team in its first two matches.

Natarajan made his T20 international debut in the current tour of India in Australia and played all three matches.

Natarajan stayed on in Australia with the squad after a successful limited-overs initiation into the Indian team.

He was the highest wicket-taker across the two sides in India’s T20I series win – six wickets in three games at an average of 13.83 and an economy rate of 6.91. Prior to that, he made his ODI debut in Canberra, finishing with 2 for 70 in India’s 13-run win as India lost the series 2-1.

Will T Natarajan named in the playing XI?

The fast bowler could make his Test debut too, depending on the playing XI chosen by skipper Rahane for the third test.

If Natarajan does make a debut in either Sydney or Brisbane, he will be the first left-arm seamer to play Test cricket for India since Zaheer Khan played his 92nd and last Test in February 2014 in Wellington.

Smith Feels ‘Humbled to be Named as ICC’s Test Player of the Decade’

Australia batsman Steve Smith on Thursday posted a heartfelt message for his fans and followers on social media after being named ICC’s Test player of the decade earlier this week.

The 31-year-old batting genius produced some staggering numbers in this decade which is why he was chosen ahead of India captain Virat Kohli, who bagged the ODI and cricketer of the decade awards.

Smith on being named as ICC’s Test Player of the Decade

Steve Smith, during the period, scored 7040 runs from 69 Tests at an average of 65.79 which included 26 hundred, 28 fifties, and 3 Ashes double centuries.

These numbers are nothing sort of astonishing, considering that he was also banned from international cricket for a year in 2018.

“Humbled to be named Test player of the decade. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career so far.

“I’ve had a lot of fun, faced many challenges, learned so much and now I can’t wait to see what the next decade has in store for me,” Smith tweeted.

Smith has been a part of many breathtaking series’ but the 2019 Ashes can be called his best. He piled up 774 in 7 Test innings, singlehandedly scoring 35.5% of Australia’s runs in the 5-match series despite having missed 1 Test due to a concussion. The series ended 2-2 with Australia retaining the Ashes urn thanks to Smith’s exploits.

But Smith has been struggling off late in red-ball cricket in the ongoing series against India in which he has managed just 10 runs – 1, 1*, 0, 8 – in two Tests so far.

Melbourne Stars leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been suspended for one match in the BBL 2020. Adam Zampa accepts the charge of using an audible obscenity during the Stars’ loss to Sydney Thunder on December 29.

Adam Zampa Suspended for 1 match in BBL 2020

Zampa was charged by Cricket Australia with a Level 1 Code of Conduct breach for using an audible obscenity during the game. The charge carries an AUD 2500 fine and a one-game suspension.

Zampa accepted the charge and will be unavailable for the Stars’ clash with the Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on January 2.

    Zampa’s Previous Audible Obscenity

Zampa was reprimanded by the ICC during the 2019 World Cup for using an audible obscenity in Australia’s win over the West Indies but was not suspended under the ICC’s demerit points system as it was his first offense.

At the end of the 16th over of Thunder’s innings, Callum Ferguson cut a short and wide delivery from Zampa to deep cover for a single.

As the Thunder batsmen ran between the wickets, Zampa appeared to utter ‘f*** me‘ which was caught by the stump mic. The 28-year-old spin bowler has taken seven wickets in this season’s BBL so far.

He took a wicket in each of the three T20 Internationals against India prior to the Test series and also took a total of seven wickets in the three-match ODI series against India, including a four-wicket haul, at the start of Australian international summer.

The Stars are also without Nathan Coulter-Nile for three to four weeks after scans revealed he suffered a calf strain in the Stars’ loss to the Sydney Sixers on the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.

Aakash Chopra Questions ICC on Picking Dhoni in T20I Team of the Decade

Former India cricketer, Aakash Chopra has questioned the criteria with which MS Dhoni has been selected in ICC’s T20I team of the Decade and also being made the captain of the same.

Aakash Chopra Questions ICC on Selecting Dhoni as T20I Captain

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday (December 27) announced the T20I team for the decade. Former India captain, MS Dhoni was elected as the captain and wicket-keeper of the team by ICC.

Dhoni captains the ICC Men's T20I team of the decade

Chopra is a bit surprised by MS Dhoni being selected in the dual role of keeper and captain for the T20I team for the last 10 years.

He points out that neither Dhoni has led India to any T20 World Cup title in the gone by decade nor Dhoni as a batsman has done anything extraordinary. Chopra claims that somebody like Jos Buttler could have made a better option instead of Dhoni.

In his Facebook video, Aakash Chopra said, “I am slightly intrigued because if you talk about T20Is in this decade, neither has India won anything nor has Dhoni done that well in T20Is. We are making a T20I team and it does not have players like Jos Buttler etc.”

Chopra slams ICC for not including Babar Azam

    Babar Azam
    Babar Azam

The former India opener also reckoned that the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Decade does not make enough sense as it does not feature premier Pakistan batsman Babar Azam – who has dominated the ICC rankings.

“My major bone of contention is that it seems they have not made the T20I team at all. They are making the team of the decade and it is not only about the Pakistani thing why none of their players are there but it just doesn’t make sense,” Chopra added.

Not just Chopra, former Pakistan cricketers like Rashid Latif and Shoaib Akhtar also questioned ICC for not picking any cricketer. Social media users have also reacted after ICC did not have any Pakistani cricketer in any of the lists.

Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah dominated the list.

Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar hails team India on their victory against Australia in the 2nd Test match at MCG. In the absence of the Virat Kohli team, India is expected to face the worst loss in the 2nd Test against Australia.

But Rahane led India to beat Australia by 8 wickets and showers in praise from all cricket lovers.

Shoaib Akhtar praises Indian cricket team

One of the cricket analyst Shoaib Akhtar praises India for their victory against Australia in the 2nd Test at MCG.

“Team India has beaten Australia like how you beat up a person in a sack. Characters are not made in crisis, they are exhibited. Team India has exhibited their talent when they were in deep crisis. This is team India’s character,” Shoaib Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

“The best part was that they showed heart and courage today. They didn’t have 3 of their star players but it didn’t matter to them. Ajinkya Rahane quietly led the team but his success is making all the noise for him today. They say work hard in silence and let your success make the noise,” he added.

Watch Shoaib Akhtar’s view on AUS vs IND 2nd Test

Kohli-less India had to make four changes after a disappointing collapse in the first Test against Australia. Team India brought in Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj (debutant), and Shubman Gill (debutant).

“India picked Siraj, he took 5 wickets. He is still young, couldn’t be by his father’s side when he passed away. He paid tribute to his father with his performance. Then came Gill, he’s certainly a big star in the making. So, Team India showed their character, that they have guts, heart and courage,” Akhtar further said.

“What impressed me the most was they should have fallen flat on their face in this match after the kind of defeat they suffered in the 1st Test. But they didn’t. They rose up to the challenge. When teams show their character like this, it doesn’t matter which religion or country the players belong to, I feel very happy,” he concluded.

Cricket Australia Postponed the India Women’s Tour of Australia

Cricket Australia postpones the three-match ODI series between Australia women and India women scheduled to play in January 2021.

India Women tour of Australia Postponed

India Women cricket team has been scheduled to play 3 ODI matches against Australia on January 22 in Canberra, January 25 in Melbourne, and January 28 in Hobart.

The World Cup’s postponement to 2022 is understood to be a factor in this decision. Which effectively means that India women will continue to be without cricket since the women’s T20 World Cup final on March 8 this year.

However, the governing body added the tour will now be a part of the build-up to the 2022 World Cup, which has been pushed to March-April due to the pandemic and will include three T20Is.

“We are very hopeful of delivering an expanded schedule between the Australian and Indian women’s teams for next season, which would be an outstanding result for fans in both countries,” Hockley said.

“We had initially hoped to play India this summer, however, the impact of the global pandemic made it necessary to postpone until next season.

“It will be wonderful to once again host the Indian women’s team, who were centre stage for that unforgettable ICC T20 World Cup final at the MCG in March, and to do so with an expanded schedule from what was originally planned.”

Dates and venues of the postponed tour will be confirmed in due course, CA said.

As things stand, India will at best take the field next in February, if a limited-overs assignment against Sri Lanka, presently being discussed between the two boards, does take place – either at home or away.
