Indian batsman KL Rahul has been ruled out of the ongoing Australia Test series with a wrist injury. The BCCI confirmed the development in the early morning hours of Tuesday, two days before the start of the third Test in Sydney.

KL Rahul ruled out of Australia Test Series

The BCCI statement reads as “KL Rahul sprained his left wrist while batting in the nets at the MCG during Team India’s practice session on Saturday. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not be available for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he will need about three weeks time to recover completely and regain full strength”.

“He will now return to India and head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further rehabilitation of his injury.”

    Multiple injuries strike Team India

Team India already miss the service of Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami now gets a strike in the batting lineup. Mohammed Shami ruled out of the Test series after suffering from a wrist fracture while batting in the second innings of the first Test.

While Umesh Yadav was also ruled out of the series after the completion of the second match. Though team India has multiple bowling back up the blow in the batting line up really worries team India fans.

Rohit Sharma returns to Test series

Though Hitman Rohit Sharma joins the squad for the 3rd Test against Australia his peak performance on the ground still remains doubtful. Rohit who played his last international match in the New Zealand tour shows a decent form in the IPL 2020.

After a lot of controversies, Rohit got his spot back in the Test squad after clearing his fitness test. Hitman who missed the ODI and T20I series is expected to make an impact in the 3rd Test match against Australia.

The Border-Gavaskar trophy is currently level at 1-1, with India making a remarkable comeback after the infamous ’36-all-out’ in the first Test in Adelaide. The Ajinkya Rahane-led side produced a dominating performance in the Boxing Day Test to beat the hosts by 8 wickets.

England cricketer Moeen Ali has tested Covid-19 positive on arrival in Sri Lanka. He has tested positive at Hambantota Airport on arrival and will undergo a self-isolation for ten days.

England cricket team have got exemptions as they are the only one to travel outside the United Kingdom when the outside world has isolated them for the emergence of a new variant of Covid-19.

    Moeen Ali Tested COVID-19 Positive

“Following PCR tests administered on arrival at the airport in Hambantota on Sunday 3rd January, The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that Moeen Ali has tested positive for COVID-19,” the ECB said in a release.

The ECB, in its media release, said Moeen Ali will now isolate himself for 10 days as per Covid protocols laid out by the Sri Lankan government.

    Chris Woakes too Isolated

Apart from Ali, one more England player Chris Woakes has been deemed to be a possible close contact and will also observe self-isolation till further testing.

“Ali will now observe a period of 10-days self-isolation, in accordance with the Sri Lanka Government’s protocol on quarantine,” the ECB said in its release.

“Chris Woakes has been deemed as a possible close contact, and he will observe a period of self-isolation and further testing,” it added.

“The touring party will be PCR tested for a second time on Tuesday morning. At this stage, the team will train for the first time on Wednesday,” the ECB stated in its release.

Moeen’s management company released a series of tweets shortly after the ECB’s announcement which said “Moeen is well and has taken all the relevant precautions but it just goes to show that this virus can strike at any time”.

    Ali’s Replacement

Moeen’s likely absence for the first Test leaves England with just two spinners, Dom Bess and Jack Leach, in their squad. They may consider calling up Mason Crane, Matt Parkinson or Amar Virdi from the reserve list to compensate. Woakes may also miss out on the first Test although England have sufficient fast-bowling cover in the squad.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has opted against picking former skipper Mashrafe Mortaza in the 24-man preliminary squad for the three-match ODI series against West Indies.

Mashrafe Mortaza not named in Bangladesh Squad

The board announced the squad on Monday, effectively putting his future as an international cricket in disarray.

”We have full respect for him (Mortaza) as he had given lot for us. It was a difficult decision but we have to accept reality,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

”We have taken this decision talking with the team management and everyone concerned. It’s a big opportunity for the player who will replace him in the team,” he said.

    Mashrafe Mortaza

”I have spoken with him(Mortaza) and there is no sort of misunderstanding between us. He said he wants to continue playing domestic cricket,” he said.

”The team management had given the plan to us and we have shared our plan and we want to take the cricket ahead and so we have taken this decision. We have to give chance to the youngster,” he said.

”We are beginning this series without Mortaza but we are keeping an eye on the 2023 World Cup. Our team management had given us a plan where the vision is 2023 World Cup and keeping that in mind we decided not to include him,” he added.

Did Kohli and Hardik Pandya Break the Bio-secure Bubble in Australia?

Did Virat and Hardik breaks the bio-secure bubble protocols
Did Virat and Hardik breaks the bio-secure bubble protocols

The Indian cricket team have come under the scanner in recent days for allegedly taking a lax approach towards the bio-secure bubble guidelines that have been put in place for them during their ongoing tour to Australia.

Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini, and Prithvi Shaw were out in a restaurant where they were supposed to be wearing masks since they were with members of the general public but were pictured without them on.

Not only these players Indan ace players Virat Kohli and Hardik seem to break the bio-secure bubble earlier this December.

Did Kohli and Hardik break the bio-secure bubble in Australia?

Now, a news report in the Australian newspaper The Age suggests this wasn’t the only time during this tour that the Indians breached the bio-secure bubble violations.

While in the part of the Indian team which plays T20I and ODI Hardik and Kohli visited the local shop

Kohli, whose wife Anushka Sharma is expecting the couple’s first child, posed for pictures alongside Pandya and other members of the store, and the images were uploaded to Instagram.

The breach went unreported due to it being on the lower end of the scale as far as bio-bubble breaches are concerned but it does show that the restaurant visit was not the only time the Indians were on the wrong end of the rules.

    Australia vs India 3rd Test

Meanwhile, the final Test of the ongoing Test series between India and Australia will take place in Brisbane as originally planned, a BCCI official confirmed.

However, Indian cricketers are currently not keen on travelling to Queensland as they will be subjected to harsher restrictions on their movement that includes a hard quarantine when not in training.

While the players have all been in bio-secure bubbles during the ongoing series, they have been allowed to move around in certain parts of their hotels. This won’t be the case at Brisbane as they will have to be confined to their hotel rooms when not at practice.

The Indian cricket team and support start also underwent an RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 on January 3 and the tests have returned negative results, the BCCI said on Monday, amid media scrutiny stemmed from the apparent quarantine breach by five Indian cricketers in Melbourne last week.

The team along with the Australian contingent will fly to Sydney today for the third Test starting January 7. “Playing members of the Indian Cricket Team and support staff underwent an RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 on January 3, 2021. All tests have returned negative results,” the BCCI said.

The four-test series between Australia and India is being played amid a backdrop of biosecurity rules, which will get stricter when the squads travel to Sydney on Monday.

Akhtar Claims AB de Villiers Cries While Facing Asif in Asian Test Championship

    0
    Shoaib Akhtar
    Shoaib Akhtar

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has said that former South Africa batsman AB de Villiers “literally started crying” during the Asian Test Championship when he faced Mohammad Asif.

Akhtar added, “VVS Laxman once said, ‘How will I face [Asif]?'” He further said, “After Asif, Bumrah is the smartest fast bowler presently.”

Akhtar Claims AB de Villiers cries when Mohammad Asif bowls him

“Even bigger than Wasim Akram, the guy that I’ve seen bowling is Mohammad Asif. I have actually seen batsmen crying while facing Asif. Laxman once said ‘how will I face this guy’, AB de Villiers literally started crying during the Asian Test Championship.” Akhtar said while speaking on Sports Today.

One of the finest seamers of his time, Asif’s career in competitive cricket came to an end after he was banned by the ICC for five years for indulging in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal in England.

The 38-year-old Asif had formed a potent pairing with Akhtar during their time in top-flight cricket.

Did ABD really cry on facing Asif?

While Akhtar’s claim is gone viral one of the Twitter users claims what Akhtar said was wrong with some strong evidence.

AB De Villiers in the Asian test championship?…which was held in 1999 & 02 – Asif didn’t make his debut till 2005…Akhtar is on another planet.

    Akhtar Praises Jasprit Bumrah

Akhtar added that Jasprit Bumrah is the smartest fast bowler in present times.

“But I think after Asif, Bumrah is the smartest fast bowler presently. People were doubtful about his fitness in Test cricket, even I was watching him closely. He has a quick bouncer, is deceptive and sharp and a good character this guy is,” Akhtar said.

Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun Tendulkar has been named in the Mumbai squad for the first time, for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The news was confirmed by the Mumbai team’s chief selector Salil Ankola on Saturday.

Arjun Tendulkar has always been under the spotlight as he is the son of the great Sachin Tendulkar. But unlike his father who is still regarded as the best batsman the cricket has ever seen, Arjun is a left-arm pace-bowling all-rounder, one of the rare combinations found in India.

Left-arm pace-bowler and him being an effective batsman is a rare species in the world cricket, leave alone India. And Arjun has been impressive so far in his plight in the cricket he’s played in his age groups.

Arjun Tendulkar named in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021

“Earlier the BCCI had asked to select 20 players. But later they said that 22 players can be selected in the squad, accordingly the two players were added to the squad,” an MCA official stated according to PTI.

Initially, Mumbai had named a 20-member squad, of which Arjun wasn’t a part of. Later, MCA decided to add him and another bowler Krutik. This is the first time that Arjun has made it to Mumbai senior team.

Mumbai is placed in Group E which includes Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Andhra, and Puducherry. They play their matches on January 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19. The knockouts will be held in Ahmedabad.

    Arjun Tendulkar’s last match

As far as his cricketing action is concerned, Arjun Tendulkar last played in a known cricketing match in August 2019. He featured for Marylebone Cricket Club Young Cricketers (MCC YC) team. He plays across all the formats for them and has performed decently during his limited appearances for the team.

    Mumbai squad

Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Aditya Tare (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aakarshit Gomel, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Shubham Ranjane, Sujit Nayak, Sairaj Patil, Tushar Deshpande, Dhawal Kulkarni, Minad Manjrekar, Prathamesh Dake, Atharva Ankolekar, Shashank Attarde, Shams Mulani, Hardik Tamore, Akash Parkar, Sufiyan Shaikh, Kruthik Hanagavadi, Arjun Tendulkar

    Man of the match

    Jhye Richardson

Definitely (happy with the win), more importantly for us to get on the board, hopefully we can get a little bit of momentum going on. We owe it to our fans. To come back and put a performance on the board like we did tonight is definitely a positive moving forward. (On Aaron Hardie) Absolutely brilliant.

He’s the one to watch out for, he’s had a fantastic pre-season, he started well in Shield season as well, he’s improving every game and we love to see that. Roy at the top, showing intent, but then we speak about partnerships through the middle, Mitch and Inglis did a fantastic job for us to get over the line
