Indian former cricketer Gautam Gambhir points out that Racial abuse is absolutely unacceptable after Indian cricketers have abused in Australia. Siraj made a complain on being racially absued during the 3rd day of the 3rd test match against Australia.

Gambhir reacts for Racial Abuse by Australia fan

“I think this incident has taken the shine off a good, hard-fought series. One or two bad elements have tarnished the image of Aussie crowds. With the background of Covid and its impact, one would like to believe that crowds the world over would be sympathetic towards each other and the players,” Gautam Gambhir said.

Bumrah, Siraj were targets of racial abuse in Australia by the SCG crowd.

“The fact that cricket is happening should because of celebration hence incidents such as these are unfortunate. Also, I think alcohol should be stopped at cricket venues. It brings out a very indifferent behaviour from the spectators. Besides, I would highly recommend a stricter punishment for the offenders. It should be exemplary so that others learn a lesson and it’s not repeated,” Gambhir added.

    Racial abuse by Australia fans

India pacer Mohammed Siraj was again subjected to racial slurs by fans in the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Siraj was fielding at the square leg boundary when a group of six people started passing racial comments to him.

The play was halted for about 10 minutes as captain Ajinkya Rahane and Siraj complained to the umpires about the incident. Six people were ejected from the crowd by the security.

Siraj, as reported by India Today, was called ‘brown dog’ when he was fielding at the boundary ropes on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, India captain Virat Kohli came up with a sharp reaction to the racist row, saying the incident needs to be looked at with “absolute urgency”.

“Racial abuse is absolutely unacceptable. Having gone through many incidents of really pathetic things said on the boundary Iines, this is the absolute peak of rowdy behaviour. It’s sad to see this happen on the field,” Virat Kohli said in a social media post.

Bumrah, Siraj were targets of racial abuse in Australia by the SCG crowd.

Two Indian players– Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah have faced racial abuse from the members of the crowd that was present at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the third day’s play in the third Test between Australia and India, a Cricbuzz reported.

Responding to the issue, the Indian team management led by the captain Ajinkya Rahane, and other senior players reported the case to the match officials including the match referee David Boon, umpires Paul Wilson, and Paul Rieffel, the report added.

Bumrah and Siraj Faced Racial Abuse in Australia

According to a report from Daily Telegraph, “angry Indian officials” have complained that the duo were target with racial abuse and that the members of the Indian team management, along with ICC officials and stadium security officers were locked in a long discussion after the end of day’s play.

A report in The Daily Telegraph stated,

“It’s understood Indian officials say the pair have been abused by members of the public for the past two days, and believe the abuse has been racist in nature… amid suggestions a crowd member at the Randwick end of the ground abused Siraj who was fielding at fine leg at the time.”

“In another instance, while the match was still continuing, Indian staff walked around behind where Bumrah was standing in the outfield and spoke to the star quick.”

Reports further added that Bumrah spoke to security officials before leaving, and as did Siraj. Umpires and match referee David Boon also walked past India’s rooms.

Did Indian Players face Racial Abuse earlier?

On India’s previous tour to Australia in 2018/19, a set of fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground were ejected after they were caught on camera racially taunting India fielders, with chants such as ‘show us your visa’ being heard.

Australia are way ahead in the third Test at the SCG, leading by 197 runs, with the unbeaten pair of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease, and six more wickets in their hands.

    Steve Smith Dismissal by Jadeja

Australia were all out for 338 on Day 2 of the SCG Test, with the last wicket of the innings falling through a spectacular fielding effort from Ravindra Jadeja to dismiss Steve Smith. Smith struck form with a 131, and he was the last man out in the hosts’ innings.

    Jadeja dismissed Steve Smith

The last wicket fell when Smith was trying to stretch out the innings as long as possible, batting with Number 11 Josh Hazlewood. He tried to take a second run after having pushed the ball to the leg side, but he had not accounted for Ravindra Jadeja running in from deep square leg.

The throw was a direct hit, giving Smith no chance to complete his second run.

    Sanjay Manjrekar praises Jadeja

The famous Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar makes a creepy comment on Steve’s dismissal. “Seemingly impossible that only Jadeja the fielder could have made possible. Not just the accuracy of the throw but the sheer speed of the throw was the key to that run-out. Absolutely brilliant!” tweeted Sanjay Manjrekar.

Jaddu’s view on direct hit dismissal

Asked what will he like to watch, the four wickets he got or the run-out, the senior all-rounder replied: “I will rewind and play this run-out as this is my best effort. A direct hit from outside the 30-yard circle and that’s like a moment that gives you that satisfaction.”

“Three or four-wicket hauls are fine but this run-out will stay with me,” said the Saurashtra all-rounder.

It was a nice little period for me. Good to spend some time out in the middle which I haven’t done much lately. It was about playing proper cricketing shots as we knew it was a good batting surface.

It (the season) has been a bit of a whirlwind and great to be part of this team. The class that we have with our bowlers, we know we can defend anything. Playing at home in front of our home crowd is massive, hopefully, this is the jump-start we needed to go deep in the tournament.

Rishabh Pant injured in 3rd Test vs Australia

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been taken for scans after he injured with a hit on the right elbow by Pat Cummins on day three of Australia vs India Test. Wriddhiman Saha has come in as the concussion substitute for Pant after India were bowled out for 244.

Rishabh Pant injured in 3rd Test of Australia vs India

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 85th over when Pant’s attempt to pull Cummins brought a substantial amount of discomfort for him. With the ball not bouncing as much as expected, Pant ended up playing over the ball and resultantly missing it.

In the process, the ball went on to hit his left elbow causing severe pain. With the southpaw immediately falling down, he received medical attention from the Indian physio which caused a significant delay.

After receiving the medical treatment and visibly getting taped on the elbow, Pant resumed batting. Still looking in pain, the 23-year old player was soon dismissed by Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood after the former edged a fuller delivery to David Warner at first slip.

    Rishabh Pant replaced by Saha

Pant has not been good with the gloves on as he faced backlash for dropping crucial catches. Looks like a good scenario for India with Saha donning the gloves. Saha is rated as a better gloveman compared to Pant and hence it could be a blessing in disguise for India.

Jadeja’s Curly Hair and Beard: Melinda Farrell Reaction

Australian fans love Jadeja's Curly Hair

Ravindra Jadeja‘s curly hair and beard have made some new fans for him from Australia. Jadeja certainly made an impact on Day 2 of the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at the Sydney Cricket Ground with his bowling and fielding prowess.

However, the guy seems to be making fans Down Under with his grooming as well.

Australian fans love Jadeja’s Curly Hair

Freelance presenter, journalist, and commentator Melinda Farrell went on Twitter to voice her astute observation about the ongoing Test match between the two cricketing giants in Sydney, more specifically, that about Jadeja.

“One more important thing about Jadeja that I’ve observed this series. He now has the best hair in men’s international cricket. I feel very strongly about this,” she tweeted.

Her followers and some other fans of the game happened to agree with her:

Ravindra Jadeja was clearly the best player in the Indian squad during Australia’s first batting innings. Having gone wicket-less on Day 1, the all-rounder scalped four of them on Friday followed by a staggering run-out to dismiss Steve Smith and wrap up their batting lineup for a total of 337.

Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle described Jadeja as a ‘three-dimensional player’ and could not have been more accurate. We have already seen his brilliance with the ball and on the field. Given his form with the bat in limited-overs cricket for the country during the Australia tour, he is expected to play a key role in India’s attempt to go 2-1 for the series.

Couple of UAE Cricketers Test Positive for Covid19

UAE cricketers Chirag Suri (vice-captain) and uncapped left-arm spinner Aryan Lakra have tested positive for Covid19, ahead of the team’s ODI series against Ireland.

    UAE Cricketers Tests COVID19 Positive

Emirates Cricket Board are hosting Ireland for a four-match ODI series commencing today at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Ireland have won the toss and elected to bat in the first ODI.

According to a statement from the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), “Both players are currently in isolation, are being monitored and are in good health.”

It is as yet unclear what impact – if any – the development will have on the series, which began today, in Abu Dhabi, where all four matches will be played. The ECB’s statement suggested things will go ahead as planned, with “all areas immediately and thoroughly sanitized as per existing protocols” and “no further positive tests returned”.

Suri was making a comeback following injury for this series, while Lakra was one of four new faces in the 17-man squad, alongside Alishan Sharafu, Kashif Daud, and Adithya Shetty.

Following the UAE series, Ireland will remain in the country to play ODIs against Afghanistan. Since the New Year, the daily number of fresh Covid-19 cases in the country has averaged around 2000.

The series will be played out entirely at one venue, something that has become a familiar sight for cricket fans as the sport comes to grips with the ‘new normal’ in a world still attempting to fully deal with the issues caused by Covid-19.

Ireland’s last international matches came in July-August 2020 when they toured England for a three-match ODI series played out entirely at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, with the hosts running out 2-1 winners.

By contrast, UAE have had to wait nearly a year to get back to the cricket field. Their last international outing came in a ACC Twenty20 Cup encounter against Kuwait on February 27, 2020 in which they emerged victorious by 102 runs.

Cricket Ireland has moved the fixtures of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which was slated to begin on January 18.

The three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and Ireland, which was scheduled to start on January 18, has been rescheduled due to the delayed arrival of the hosts in the UAE.

    Ireland-Afghanistan ODI Rescheduled

The three ODIs, which are part of ICC’s World Cup Super League, were scheduled to be played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 18, 21, and 23 but the start has been postponed by three days The ODIs will now be played on January 21, 24 and 26 at the same venue.

    Ireland
    Ireland

Richard Holdsworth, High-performance director for Cricket Ireland, said that they have agreed to the new fixtures. ”We were pleased to accommodate the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s request for a slight extension of the tour understanding that the delayed arrival time of the Afghan side, combined with their quarantine requirements meant that the previous schedule could not be achieved,” said Holdsworth on Wednesday.

He adds that “We are pleased that after discussions over recent days, an agreement was reached on keeping the series in Abu Dhabi after the Afghanistan squad’s visas came through,” he added.

We are thankful to the Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council in working with us to ensure the series will be played in a safe and healthy environment.”

Prior to that, Ireland will be up against UAE, before they move on to the matches against Afghanistan.

    Ireland vs UAE

Ireland will lock horns with UAE before they play Afghanistan in the World Cup Super League fixtures later this month. On Wednesday, Ireland pacer David Delany left the squad after complaining of knee pain following training in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, Josh Little will join the Irish side on Thursday. Little was originally named in the 16-man squad, but in mid-December, he was forced to self-isolate after a close contact tested positive.

The four-match Abu Dhabi ODI series between UAE and Ireland will begin on Friday.
