    Fans compares Pant with Dhoni

On Tuesday, Australia’s fortress — The Gabba — was finally breached. It took 32 years and two months, but the unthinkable was achieved as an injury-ravaged young Indian team beat Australia by three wickets against all odds to take the series 2-1.

Pant played an unbeaten inning of 89 runs in the fourth innings of the Test as India chased down the total of 328. This is the highest chase recorded at the Gabba in Brisbane.

As India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, BCCI also announced a cash bonus of Rs 5 crore. “I am so happy that we retained the trophy. The whole team is very happy,” Pant told reporters here after returning from the Australia tour.

“It feels good when you are compared to someone like MS Dhoni but I do not want people to make comparisons. I want to make my own name in the Indian cricket team. That is the only thing I am focused on. Also, it is not good that you compare a legend with a youngster,” he added.

The last time a visiting team came out triumphant from the Gabba was back in November 1988 when the mighty West Indian outfit under the leadership of Viv Richards thrashed Allan Border’s team by 9 wickets.

In the first Test against Australia, India was bundled out for 36 and there were many pundits who said the visiting team would face a 4-0 drubbing. But proving every critic wrong, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side registered famous victories in Melbourne and Brisbane.

The side also recorded an epic draw in Sydney and at every step, the line-up overcame adversity.

Pant is the first cricketer to join the talent management roster of the $13-billion JSW Group’s sports arm, which currently manages commercial interests of Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik and wrestling star Bajrang Punia, among others.

Pant, who was one of the architects of India’s historic three-wicket win over Australia in the fourth Test in Brisbane on Tuesday with an unbeaten 89, said he was looking forward to the association.

Pant will be the first cricketer managed by JSW Sports. The entity currently manages the commercial rights of top wrestling stars Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia.

As a sports management company, JSW Sports has been representing Olympic athletes for quite a few years now and managed to get a lot of brands for them, company director Parth Jindal said. “Over the years we’ve been able to build up the credibility of the established sports company in the marketplace and wanted to embark in cricket too,” he told ET.

“I have tremendous respect for the work they have been doing to promote sports in India and have seen their dedication towards helping create and sustain a sporting culture in India,” he said in a statement issued by JSW Sports.

Welcoming Pant to the organisation, Mustafa Ghouse, CEO of JSW Sports, said, “I think what the world has seen Rishabh do at 23 is just the tip of the iceberg.

“He truly is a special talent and we are confident that he has all the ingredients to become a global sporting icon.”

The multi-year association between the two parties will see JSW Sports manage the athlete’s image positioning and all his commercial engagements, including brand endorsements and appearances, social media monetisation, and business deals.

Vaughan Claims India as The Best All-Round Side in The World Right Now

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has called India the best all-round team in the world after their dramatic win over Australia in Brisbane on the fifth day of the fourth Test.

With the victory over Australia India reclaims the top position in the ICC Test Championship points table.

    Michael Vaughan Praises India

Vaughan was among a handful of experts who had predicted a thrashing for India in the four-match series but has since hailed them for the manner in which they defied the odds against what is arguably the world’s best pace-attack in Test cricket at the moment.

India beat Australia in Gabba and lifts the series trophy
India beat Australia in Gabba and lifts the series trophy

“I have said for a while that I believe India have the resources, talent and mentality to be the No 1 side in the world in all three formats, and the fact that they have pulled off this victory in one of the great fortresses of world cricket where Australia had not lost a test since 1988 should be ominous for everyone else,” Vaughan wrote in his column for stuff.co.nz.

“India are the best all-round side in the world right now and could remain so for some time,” he added.

Indians left Vaughan with ‘egg on face’

Vaughan said with the win, India have left him with ‘egg on my face’ and called Rishabh Pant an exceptional talent. It was Pant who hit an unbeaten 89 to power the tourist’s chase in the final hour of the play as they successfully chased down a daunting 328.

“They (India) are stuffed with talent, with none more gifted than the exceptional wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, and when you think of the players who are due to come back, the task for (Joe) Root’s team could not be bigger,” he said of the impending England tour of India starting the first week of February.

He was critical of Australia’s performance who were the firm favourites after they had skittled India for 36 in the second innings in Adelaide Test before securing an eight-wicket win.

“That said, this is a result that will pose serious questions of Australia and give England real hope for the Ashes. Joe Root needs to win a series Down Under and India have proved that there are vulnerabilities in this Australian side ones that we did not really know existed a month or so ago,” he said.

He continued, “There is something not quite right with Australia at the moment. The batting aside from Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne has a soft centre, the pace bowling attack, rightly hailed as being the world’s best a few weeks ago, lacked penetration at crucial moments in the last three tests against India, and Nathan Lyon had no impact at all.”

The 75-year old legendary leg-spinner complained of “tiredness and fatigue” on Friday evening and his speech became a “little bit cluttered”, according to her.

“There is some kind of blockage in the brain. It’s a very, very minutest stroke”, she said, adding, with medication he will probably be alright in a week or two. “There is no problem. It’s not a life-threatening thing. Please convey to fans that Chandra is very much stable. He has very strong willpower”, Sandhya said.

Washington Sundar’s Father Recalls The Moment When he Batted Despite Stitches

M Sundar father of Washington Sundar recalls the moment when Washington played the school match with stitches .

    Washington Sundar played with stitches

Till he turned 10, Washington Sundar’s daily ritual involved going to his father M Sundar’s cricket academy in Pudupet, Chennai, at dawn, where he would train for three hours before heading to school.

Wishes starts to pour for the young Sundar after his impressive match saving knock(62 runs) in the 4th test vs Australia. Apart from the poise, he showed at the crease, Washington also showcased the willingness to put up a fight.

Sundar narrates an incident from Washington’s childhood that exemplifies how the youngster hardly gets daunted.

“He was barely 9, and days before an Under-14 inter-school match in Chennai, he got hit on his head during practice. After getting five stitches on his temple, he went to play the match the next day and scored a match-winning 39 not out. That day, I realised that he was not someone who would get fazed by challenges,” Sundar notes.

In fact, facing bowlers much older and experienced than him has been a recurrent theme in Washington’s career. “He was barely 10 when he was already playing at the Under-14 level, and by 16 he was part of India’s Under-19 squad,” Shailaja had told this newspaper.

    Wishes Pours for Washington Sundar

While fans and cricket pundits watched Washington’s splendid rearguard in utter disbelief, back in Chennai, Sundar wasn’t particularly surprised.

“People who have watched Washington in the IPL and T20s have the perception that he is an off-spinner who can bat a bit. But that’s not true. I always believe that he has tremendous potential as a batsman. In fact, I would say that he is 70 percent batsman,” Sundar says.

He recalls a WhatsApp video call he had with Washington on Saturday (at the end of Day 2) ,after he bagged a three-wicket haul. “The gist of my conversation with Washi was this: ‘Your job for this match is not done. There’s batting to be done now. This is a rare opportunity, so make sure you grab it,’” he recalls.

There were several sparkling shots during Washington’s combative knock. For Sundar, though, it was the no-look six against Lyon over the long-on boundary that stood out. “That was the shot of the day, no doubt about it.

Generally, a batsman tends to follow the ball’s trajectory, but in this case, the moment the ball hit the bat, you got the sense that he had connected it perfectly. Which is why he was so confident that he just didn’t feel the need to look at it.”

South Africa tour of Pakistan: De Kock praises the security level of the Pakistan

South Africa skipper Quinton de Kock appreciates the top-level security given to the team in the Pakistan cricket tour.

    South Africa tour of Pakistan

The South African cricket squad landed in Pakistan on Saturday for their first tour — consisting of two Tests and three T20Is — to the country after a 14-year break.

It is the first tour by a South African side to Pakistan since 2007 when Proteas played five ODIs and Tests in the country.

The team, led by Quinton de Kock, reached Karachi via a chartered flight and will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival. The first Test starts in Karachi on 26 January.

“When we were coming here, obviously, security was a concern – if not the biggest concern,” the 28-year-old told a virtual news conference.

“When we landed here we saw the amount of security… we became a lot calmer. It became less of a worry and we were able to focus more on cricket.”

Sri Lankan players attacked in Pakistan

Pakistan went years without playing home games after militant Islamists attacked the team bus of the Sri Lankan side in 2009. They have hosted a few limited-overs matches since 2015, but Test cricket only resumed in December 2019.

“It looks like all corners are checked… all bases covered, touch wood,” said de Kock.

“At the moment we feel safe. There is a lot of security, so now we are just worrying about cricket.”

The squad are being kept effectively in a bubble at their Karachi hotel as a precaution against the coronavirus but can train at a nearby club ground.

All matches will be played behind closed doors, however, as Pakistan grapples with an epidemic that has officially infected over half a million people and killed more than 10,000.

De Kock admitted playing conditions in Pakistan were unknown for the squad, although head coach Mark Boucher toured in 1997, 2003, and 2007 as a player.

“We do understand that spin plays a big part in the subcontinent so we will have all our bases covered,” said de Kock, who will play his 50th Test in Karachi.

The second Test will be played in Rawalpindi from 4 February, while Lahore will host all three Twenty20 internationals on February 11, 13 14.

Tom Moody Pin Points the Pujara’s Mistake For his Failure in Aussies Test

    0
    Pujara
    Pujara

Former Australian legend Tom Moody analysis the batting style of Pujara and explains the reason for his failure in the ongoing Australia series.

Tom Moody Analysis Pujara’s batting style

Tom Moody said his(Pujara) style doesn’t do anything to threaten the bowler or throw him off guard, which in turn, allows the bowler to settle due to which he is struggling in the on-going series.

“One observation I have with Pujara… there’s no question about his quality, he’s a very fine Test batsman. But one thing I will say is that his style of play allows the bowler to hone in on a dinner plate and remain in that competitive length and line, where another proactive batsman is reversing the pressure back on the bowler and they are finding it hard to find a dinner plate,” Moody said on ESPNCricinfo.

“There’s a small sort of window on a very good length and line. So Pujara is never quite forcing a bowler like Hazlewood to or a Pat Cummins off that length because he is resolute on his defence. And if they are allowed to stay in there, the ball is going to just bounce a little bit more, seam a little bit more and his bat is going to be sitting there for that.”

    Moody praises Thakur and Sundar

Moody went on to talk about how many Indian batsmen, including Pujara, threw away a good start and how Thakur and Sundar’s partnership saved the day for the visitors.

“They were saved by the partnership between Thakur and Sundar. If the partnership hadn’t evolved, we’d be talking about the fact that the top order all got starts, except for Shubman Gill, and failed to cash in on what was a pretty good batting surface,” Moody mentioned.

“I think we’ve seen today how a good a surface it was at the Gabba and to get a start as a top-order batsman in a Test match and get yourself in and not convert to something substantial, is something you do kick yourself for and a number of the top-order batsman did that through some indifference strokeplay and you have to give credit to the Australian bowlers.”

BCCI Likely to Host Ranji Trophy 2021 in Prior to IPL 2021

    0
    Ranji Trophy
    Ranji Trophy

BCCI is on the verge of hosting the Ranji Trophy 2021 before the IPL 2021. Ranji Trophy 2020 has been postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic which plays a massive lose for the Indian domestic circuit players.

BCCI pays Rs 40,000 per day to the players for the four-day Ranji Trophy matches. Which is the main source of income for more than 800 domestic cricketers.

BCCI might look to host the Ranji Trophy 2021 to back the domestic circuit players. The BCCI has also given the green signal to host women’s senior games but is yet to decide whether to go ahead with junior cricket this season.

BCCI Might Host Ranji Trophy 2021 before the IPL 2021

During Sunday’s Apex Council meeting of the BCCI, secretary Jay Shah sought feedback from the members whether they preferred the 50-overs tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy or Ranji after the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 ends on January 31.

Also, it is learnt that BCCI seeks to host the IPL 2021 in its regular window of March- April.

“The Apex Council had a discussion on the issue. And Jay bhai was of the view that players earn more in Ranji Trophy as compared to Syed Mushtaq Ali. The livelihoods of domestic cricketers depend on the four-day game. The operations team has been told to go ahead and make a concrete plan for the Ranji Trophy,” a BCCI official said.

With 38 teams playing in Indian domestic cricket, logistics and mobility could be a big task. The board had taken verbal feedback from state associations and many wanted to host the T20 and 50-over competitions. However, it is learnt that a few players requested Shah to host the Ranji Trophy instead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The dithering over junior cricket is due to the bio-bubble situation as the board feels dealing with it will be a tougher task for that age-group.

Sachin praises Siraj and Thakur for their impressive performance in 4th Test vs Australia

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praises Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur after the duo combined to pick nine wickets while bundling out Australia for 294. Shardul took four while Siraj picked his maiden five-for on day four of the fourth Test at The Gabba.

    Sachin praises Siraj and Thakur

The legendary batsman congratulated Siraj for his feat and showered praise on Shardul saying that his performance has kept the match and more importantly the Test series alive.

“Well done Mohd. Siraj on your 1st fifer and @imShard on your important all-round performance which has kept the Test rather interesting so far and more importantly, the Test series alive,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Last week, while analysing Siraj`s bowling, Tendulkar had said that it was the Indian pacer`s ability and not pitch that brought the ball in on the opening day of the final Test. The legendary Indian batsman praised Siraj and explained how the Indian speedster was able to bowl the inswing on day one of the fourth Test.

“When Mohammed Siraj was bowling, I had a couple of guys say that the ball hit the crack and it nipped back something which I observed was completely different. Mohammed Siraj, when he was bowling outswingers, (reflecting on the shiny surface of the ball) this is the shiny side and what he would do is he would get his fingers behind the ball and release it,” Tendulkar said in a video posted on his Twitter.

“So the seam is pointing towards first slip, or sometimes second slip, and when he wanted to bowl in cutter which moves off the seam, instead of going behind the ball he went off the pitch,” he added.
