Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen trolls Virat Kohli led India for their unacceptable loss in the 1st Test vs England.

    Kevin Pietersen Trolls India

Pietersen used his Hindi to poke fun at Virat Kohli-led India after Joe Root’s England beat them by 228 runs in Chennai in the first Test.

His post read: “India, yaad hai maine pehele hi chetawani di thi ke itna jasn na manaye jab aapne Australia ko unke ghar pe haraya tha.”

Impressed with his Hindi, here is how fans reacted:

    Pietersen’s early warning

Pietersen has been following Indian cricket for a long time and has time and again expressed his fondness for Virat Kohli.

Earlier, Pietersen had warned India ahead of England’s tour, asking the hosts to not celebrate too much after the Australia win as “the real challenge” awaits.

It was a win England will savour as it gives them hope of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship later in the year.

England with its skipper Joe Root’s brilliant 218 that set up the match for the tourists who have now taken a crucial 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series. It would now be interesting to see what changes India makes for the second Test which takes place in a couple of days from now.

The second Test against England starts on February 13 and it will be played in Chennai.

Netizens slams team India’s selection committee for not roping the suitable spinner to assist Ashwin in home ground. Moreover, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Pujara, and Rahane still shows their inconsistency.

Particularly fans slams Rohit Sharma for not making impressive innings since his international return. Rohit joins the International squad after his recovery from a hamstring injury happened in the New Zealand tour.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been ruled out of the second and final Test against West Indies beginning Thursday after failing to recover from an injury he sustained during the first match in Chattogram.

“Shakib has been assessed and monitored continuously since suffering a strain on his left thigh on the second day of the match,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.

Despite the injuries, Shakib’s return to international cricket following the one-year ICC ban has been a successful one. He was the Player of the Series in the ODIs, where he returned 4 for 8 in the first game and hit 43* and 51 in the next two games as Bangladesh won 3-0.

No replacement has yet been announced by the Bangladesh selectors, who had earlier named an 18-man Test squad for the two matches.

Shakib al Hasan is on verge of Skipping the NZ Tour

Allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to not consider him for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, scheduled in March. Shakib sent a letter recently to the BCB, requesting the board to grant him paternity leave for the birth of his third child.

“We have received a letter from him to grant leave during the tour of New Zealand as he wants to be with his wife (in the USA). We are yet to take a decision in this regard,” Akram Khan, chairman of BCB cricket operations, told Cricbuzz.

Shakib is currently recovering from a thigh injury he sustained during the opening Test against the West Indies, which will keep him out of action for the second game in Dhaka.

Earlier, New Zealand Cricket had postponed the series against Bangladesh by a week due to Covid-19-related challenges, with the tour now commencing on March 20. Initially, the three ODIs were supposed to be held on March 13, 17, and 20. Instead, it will now take place on March 20, 23, and 26 in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Wellington.

Meanwhile, the three T20Is will now be held on March 28, 30, and April 1 in Hamilton, Napier, and Auckland. Bangladesh are scheduled to depart for New Zealand on February 22.

With a convincing 95-run win over South Africa, Pakistan climbed to the fifth spot in the latest ICC Test Team Ranking.

Pakistan moves top in ICC Test Ranking

The hosts beat the Proteas by 95 runs in the second Test to sweep the two-match series. Chasing a target of 370, South Africa were all out for 270 on the final day of the Test. Pakistan registered their first Test series win over the Proteas since 2003.

Riding on the series win, Pakistan have leapfrogged Sri Lanka and South Africa and now sit on the fifth spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings. Pakistan currently have 90 rating points while South Africa have dropped one spot to the sixth and have 89 rating points.

Kane Williamson-led New Zealand with 118.44 points are at the top of the table and are closely followed by India – who have 117.65 points. Australia who recently lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy to India is at the number three spot with 113 points, while 2019 World Cup champions England are on the fourth spot.

while Pakistan and South Africa are at the fifth and sixth spot respectively. The Men in Green and the Proteas are out of the race to secure a place in the final.

As far as the World Test Championship points table is concerned, India are still on top followed by New Zealand – who have already qualified for the final.

    World Test Championship Finals

New Zealand had become the first team to secure their place in the final while the likes of India, England and Australia are still vying for the other spot. The ongoing series between India and England will determine who will be the second finalist.

For India to qualify, they need to beat England by 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1, or 4-0 in the ongoing series.

And for England to make it through, they need to beat India 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0 in the ongoing series.

And for Australia – who were looking to make it up until the Border-Gavaskar trophy – will need to rely on the results of the India-England series. For Australia to qualify, one of the three scenarios has to play out – India beat England 1-0, England beat India 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1, or India and England draw the ongoing series either 0-0, 1-1, or 2-2.

Josh Philippe set to make International Debut

Big Bash League sensation Josh Philippe is all set for his debut in the upcoming T20I series-opener against New Zealand.

Finch revealed that the youngster will be a part of the top-order trio setup inclusive of himself and Matthew Wade. Australia and New Zealand will lock horns in a full-fledged five-match T20I series which gets underway on February 22 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Finch revealed the probable top five for Australia on Monday to cricket.com.au. He confirmed that the team would be flexible with the top order and all-rounders Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell are expected to form the middle-order.

Finch further hailed the right-hander and said that the youngster’s game has gone to a new level this summer. He identified a newfound ability to traverse his way through an innings when not hitting well.

Finch puts it down to Philippe spending time in the Indian Premier League and soaking up information from Royal Challengers Bangalore’s star players Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

Philippe’s chance to don the Australian jersey for the first time has come after his spectacular display in the recently-concluded edition of the Big Bash League. The wicketkeeper-batsman took advantage of his opportunity and had a standout Big Bash campaign.

He starred with the bat as he helped Sydney Sixers successfully defend their title for the second season in a row. Philippe earned the player-of-the-tournament amassing 508 runs at a strike rate of just under 150 and at an average of 31.75.

South Africa Requests ICC to intervene in Australia’s Decision of Skipping Test

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) asking it to intervene in the postponement of the Australia Test series.

South Africa request ICC to intervene in Australia Decision

In the letter, South Africa has termed Australia’s decision to pull out of the series “against the spirit of sportsmanship”, with implications for the credibility of the World Test Championship (WTC), reported ESPNCricinfo.

The letter also raises concerns that this decision by Australia will have a serious impact on the financial well-being of less-wealthy ICC members.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, CSA has not lodged a formal complaint and it has sent its letter as a means of opening communication about finding the best possible outcome to maintain international cricket schedule during the Covid-19 pandemic.

    Australia postpones South Africa Tour

Earlier this month, Australia’s three-match Test tour of South Africa was postponed due to an ‘unacceptable’ coronavirus risk. The Australian board had said that travelling from Australia to South Africa at this current time would have had an unacceptable level of health and safety risk to the visiting players.

As the series between Australia and South Africa got postponed, the ICC on Tuesday confirmed that New Zealand has now become the first team to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC). India, Australia, and England are the other three teams that will be fighting it out to battle against the Kiwis in the summit clash.

Cricket Australia had also clarified that it would not be asking the ICC to delay the WTC final and as a result, the fate of Tim Paine’s side reaching the final depends on the upcoming four-match Test series between India and England.

“We have done everything we possibly can to make this tour happen and it’s a very difficult and challenging situation in South Africa just now and that’s what makes it even more heartbreaking that we’re not able to go.

We all knew the rules going in and I think that’s what’s made this decision really, really hard. We’ve done everything we possibly can to make the tour go ahead but in the end, we had to listen to the overwhelming medical advice, so we won’t be pursuing that with the ICC, but it’s just another reason why not being able to tour is so disappointing,” ESPNCricinfo had quoted CA’s Interim CEO, Nick Hockley as saying.

Ashwin Scripts a Unique Record in more than 100 Years

Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the first spinner in more than 100 years to get a wicket off the first ball of an innings.

    Ashwin First ball wicket

Before the 34-year-old, former South African cricketer Bert Vogler achieved the feat in 1907. The first spinner ever to pick up a wicket off the first ball of an innings was former England bowler Bobby Peel in 1888.

In the second innings of the England Ashwin achieved this feat by dismissing Rory Burns for duck.

Earlier in the first innings, Ashwin had claimed 3/146 including the wickets of Burns, Ollie Pope and James Anderson. He also bowled the longest in an innings of a Test match for India, bowling a total of 55.1 overs.

Most overs in an innings by Ashwin

    • 53.1 vs England, Chennai (2020/21*)
    • 53.0 vs Australia, Adelaide (2011/12)
    • 52.5 vs Australia, Adelaide (2018/19)
    • 52.3 vs England, Kolkata (2012/13)
    • 52.1 vs West Indies, Mumbai (2011/12)

During his earlier spell, Ashwin also bowled the first-ever no-ball of his Test career. The off-spinner had gone more than 20,600 balls before overstepping in Test cricket.

On the other hand, fellow India spinner Sundar also marked a record during his impressive start to his Test career. The 21-year-old, during his unbeaten 85-run knock, joined an elite list of Team India batsmen with 50-plus scores in debut innings both home and away.

Winning the toss England choose to bat first. With Joe Root’s double century England scored 578 runs. India scored 337 runs for 10 wickets loss where India’s star players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma failed to score massive runs.

England in their second innings struggles to face the Indian bolwers and scored only 178 runs. On the other hand India need to score 400+ runs in order to win the 1st test match against England.

In the day 5 of the 1st Test India loses another wicket and scored 78 runs for 2 wickets loss. India may seeks to draw the match by carrying the wickets.

Sunil Gavaskar Backs Indian Skipper Virat Kohli

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar backed Virat Kohli would end his century drought and is confident that a big score is around the corner.

    Sunil Gavaskar backed Kohli

“Pressure is what brings the best out of Virat Kohli. And we’ve seen that time and again over the years then when he’s got his back to the wall is when he plays his best cricket. Sometimes when you’re batting at No. 4 and you’re 200/2 when you go in to bat, you tend to think that batting is easy. He knows now that batting is not easy and he’s got to put everything out there and focus,” Gavaskar said on the Star Sports during Day 3 of the India-England Test in Chennai.

Kohli’s last century for India was in November 2019 when the side played their first-ever Day-Night Test match against Bangladesh in Kolkata.

It was the first time in 12 years that the India captain did not have a century to show. But with India’s 2021 campaign already off the mark, Gavaskar predicts that the big score of Kohli is around the corner.

“I just think that he is due for a big score. Last year was the first when he didn’t have a hundred, in any form of the game, which is so rare,” Gavaskar added.

“For the last seven-eight years, every single year, he’s got at least five-six hundreds in all forms of the game. Last year, I knew we had the pandemic, but still very rare to see that Virat Kohli did not have a three-figure score. And 2021, he’d be hoping to change that.”

In the ongoing England Test series both the team lock their horns to play the 1st test at Chennai. Winning the Toss England choose to bat first and scored 578 runs with the help of Joe Root’s double century.

While India loses their all 10 wickets by scoring 337 runs where the much expected Virat Kohli scored only 11 runs. In the second innings, England scored 178 runs and set a massive target for India to win the 1st test match.

Team In their second innings scored 39 runs while losing their opener hitman Rohit Sharma. India expects a massive performance from their skipper Virat Kohli.

Former Indian Cricketer Wasim Jaffer comforts Kuldeep Yadav for not getting a chance to showcase his talent in the Test matches for India.

    Wasim Jaffer Comforts Kuldeep Yadav

“Can’t help but feel sad for @imkuldeep18. Since August he’s been travelling from one bio-bubble to another, but haven’t really got a chance to showcase his talent. But don’t lose hope Kuldeep. You have done it before and I’m sure given an opportunity you will do it again. #INDvsENG,” Wasim Jaffer tweeted.

Kuldeep Yadav Avoided in 1st Test vs England

Kuldeep Yadav was expected to feature in the Pink-ball Test match against Australia in Adelaide but the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja got the nod ahead of him.

Later, the 26-year-old was expected to feature in the 4th Test after Ravindra Jadeja was ruled out with a broken thumb. However, Washington Sundar, who travelled Down Under as a net bowler, got inducted in the playing XI for the Gabba Test.

A similar incident happened ahead of the 1st Test against England in Chennai. Shahbaz Nadeem, who was not named in the India squad for the first two Tests, was included in the playing XI on the morning of the Test after Axar Patel got ruled out with a knee injury.

Along with experienced Ravichandran Ashwin and Nadeem, Washington Sundar was selected as the third spinner for the match.

“A little unfortunate on Kuldeep to be honest. I thought they should have actually picked Kuldeep against England. A wrist spinner is a rare commodity. He has been with the team, he hasn’t played any cricket so Kuldeep would have been a great asset,” Gautam Gambhir had said after Kuldeep’s exclusion from the first Test.

Pacer Ishant Sharma, on Monday, became only the sixth Indian bowler to pick up 300 wickets in Test cricket. He trapped England batsman Daniel Lawrence plumb in front in the third innings of the first of four Tests at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to register the magical number.

Ishant Sharma Joins 300 Test Wickets Club

Lawrence has himself stuck in the crease as Ishant weaves magic with a shade of reverse swing. Hits low on the pad of Lawrence and walks to the pavilion while scoring 18 runs from 47 deliveries.

Besides Kumble and Kapil, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, and Zaheer Khan are the other bowlers from the country who have reached the landmark.

Sharma, however, is the slowest Indian bowler to make the mark in 98 matches, with Ashwin being the fastest to the spot in 54 matches, followed by Kumble (66), Harbhajan (72), Kapil (83), and Zaheer (89). Ashwin, in fact, is the fastest international bowler to have crossed the milestone.

The 32-year-old has now also picked up 100 Test wickets in India. He is only the fourth Indian pacer to do so after Kapil Dev (219), Javagal Srinath (108), and Zaheer Khan (104).

Virat Kohli Reveals the Text Message He Sent to Ashwin Post the Melbourne Test

Virat Kohli revealed the message he sent to Ashwin after the second Test against Australia in Melbourne, which India won.

    Virat Kohli message Ashwin

India emerged victorious by 8 wickets, with Ashwin setting it up with a spell on Day 1 that accounted for Steve Smith for a duck.

“Well, he is one of the most vital parts of this team. After Melbourne, I sent him a text that this is the best I have seen you bowl overseas ever. I remember we had a conversation in Adelaide as well, I said not people remember these small moments, in the first innings where Saha and Ash came out not out, Ash’s intent was something that stood out for me,” Kohli told Star Sports.

Ashwin made a crucial contribution with the bat too in the series. His marathon partnership with Hanuma Vihari helped India draw the Sydney Test. Ashwin had been in poor form with the bat over the last two years, but prior to that he was a key batsman who has four Test centuries.

“He had a conversation with us in the nets about his batting. We both said ‘you have so much more to provide for this team with the bat. That was one of your strengths. When we looked at you, we always felt like 30-35 guaranteed every innings’,” Kohli said.

“If he gets going, he will score a crucial 70-80′. So, suddenly you saw his body language. It was like ‘Hold on, this is my time, my tour now with the bat and with the ball’.”

Kohli himself had missed the last three Tests for paternity leave.

“Firstly I don’t think the two can be compared. Becoming a father has been and will remain the greatest moment in my life, in both our lives. That is something to be experienced to understand what I am saying,” Kohli had said in the pre-match press conference.

“Secondly, the connection to the team does not go away in any situation. Especially when you have given everything to the team. Especially when you have worked for the last six years on a daily basis to take Indian cricket on top.

“The last Test, I remember when Shardul and Sundar were having a partnership, I was watching it on my phone just before we had to go when the doctor called us so. That is how connected you are to the team and how much you are looking forward to the guys doing well.

“What happened was purely out of determination, grit and belief to achieve what they ended up achieving.

“That is going to remain in hearts and minds of Indian cricket fans forever. Whether I was part of it or not, to me it doesn’t matter as much as it matters to the Indian cricket team and the whole country.

“That moment will be the most special in our lives forever,” said Kohli.

England cricket team captain Joe Root suffered a cramp during the third session of the match and that is when Kohli displayed his sportsman spirit and helped the opponent skipper.

Before the England team’s physiotherapist could reach the field to help out Root, Kohli helped him out by stretching his leg.

Broad was not included in the playing XI for the first Test against India. Meanwhile, England captain Joe Root notched up his third straight 150-plus score and added 92 runs with Ben Stokes to help England dominate proceedings in the first session on the second day of the first Test against India on Saturday.

Skipper Root was batting on 156 (277 balls, 16 fours, 1 six) while Stokes had reached a strokeful 63 (98 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes) as the visiting team reached 385 for 3 at the lunch break.

For India, the experienced trio of Ishant Sharma (0/37), Jasprit Bumrah (2/57) and Ravichandran Ashwin (1/92) tried their best but could not break the Root-Stokes partnership, which is looking ominous from the host’s point of view.

Shahbaz Nadeem (0/100) and Washington Sundar (0/65) could not make any impact and were taken for easy runs as India’s woes multiplied.

Rohit, Virat, Rahane fell cheap as India will be on the back foot for the remaining two days. Pant and Pujara tried to revive the innings, however, Cheteshwar’s unlucky dismissal put the pressure back on the hosts.
