IPL 2021: Sreesanth Removed From the Final Players’ List for Auction

Kerala speedster S Sreesanth has been excluded from the finalised IPL 2021 Auction players list.

The BCCI on Thursday announced the IPL 2021 finalised list of 292 players by the eight franchises to bid for. However, the most prominent name missing from the list was the 38-year old pacer Sreesanth, who made his comeback to the game after serving a 7-year ban.

S Sreesanth returned to competitive cricket after a period of 7 years following a ban due to spot-fixing.

Sreesanth Rejected from IPL 2021 Auction

Sreesanth registered himself for the IPL auction and hoped that he might attract attention from franchises. He had set a base price of Rs. 75 lakhs for himself. However, it now seems like he did not attract much interest from the franchises as they have not decided to shortlist him for the auction.

Reason for Sreesanth’s rejection from IPL 2021 Auction

According to reports from Sportstar, a franchise official reportedly spoke about Sreesanth not getting shortlisted and said, “A total of 1114 players had registered for the auction, of which the franchises shortlisted the candidates and the list was pruned. Maybe, Sreesanth did not attract the franchises for some reason.”

Sreesanth last played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise where he was arrested and banned along with teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan for involvement in spot-fixing. He was banned for life before the same being reduced to a 7-year one.

Although Sreesanth did not find a place in the list of shortlisted players, his Kerala teammates, Mohammed Azharuddeen and Sachin Baby will go under the hammer.

    Sreesanth’s Reply for his rejection

“I want to say I am absolutely fine and grateful to this lovely life. I am thankful to all the support you have been showing. Honestly thought I would be there (in the auction list) but I have to work really hard. If I could wait for eight years, I will wait some more time,” he said in the video.

“‘Kohli will be captain, don’t look for masala story”, Rahane Answers in a Press Conference

    Ajinkya Rahane

India’s Test deputy Ajinkya Rahane addressed a virtual press conference where he spoke on various areas of concern for the team.

Without a doubt, Ajinkya Rahane is one of India’s most important players in the Test line-up. Virat Kohli pointed out the same when asked to comment on Rahane’s flop show in the first Test versus England.

Ajinkya Rahane Address virtual press conference

Regarding the pitch for the second test

Ajinkya Rahane: “The pitch for the second Test looks completely different. I’m sure it will turn from day one. We have to forget what happened in the first Test and focus ahead.”

Questiened on his Run scored in last tests

Ajinkya Rahane (on his personal form with the bat): “We are playing at home after two years. It’s all about the team, not about any individual. If you look at my last 10-15 Tests, you will find some runs there.”

On Asking About playing in front of fans the 2nd Test match at Chennai

Ajinkya Rahane: “We are all really excited to have fans back. It means a lot to us.”

Team India will be playing the match infornt of fans after a long time. Cricket matches were set to play behind the closed door owing to the COVID19 restrictions.

Rahane on the Spin department of the 1st test match

Ajinkya Rahane: “Every player is in the mix. Good to have Axar Patel fit. I’m not going to say who is going to play in the second Test. All our spinners are good and I’m sure they’re keen to do well.”

Ajinkya Rahane: “I thought our spinners bowled really well in the first Test. They didn’t get any help from the pitch in the first innings. We are not too concerned about the form of our spinners.”

When questioned on multiple catch drops

Ajinkya Rahane: “Catches do get dropped but we’ve been working hard. No one drops catches intentionally. Close catches are very important in India and we know that. The boys were disappointed by the number of no-balls in the first Test and they’re working to fix it.”

Rahane on Rishabh Pant as wicket keeper

Ajinkya Rahane: “Rishabh Pant will get better as a wicketkeeper the more he plays in India. We know what he can do with the bat and you need to back such players.”

Regarding Washim Jaffer steping down as Uttarkant Coach

Ajinkya Rahane: “I don’t have any idea about the Wasim Jaffer incident, so I can’t comment on it.”

Should Rohit Sharma ruled out of the remaining test matches

Ajinkya Rahane: “Rohit Sharma is an important member of our team. He made important contributions in Australia. You can’t judge a player over 4-6 innings. You need to have faith in the players. We’re really happy to have Rohit in the team.”

Virat Kohli vs Rahane Captaincy Issue

Ajinkya Rahane: “Yes, it’s true, sometimes players don’t have energy on the field (on Virat Kohli’s comment at the end of the first Test). It’s not because the captain changed. If you’re looking for masala, you’re not going to get it here.”

    Team having issues with Pujara?

Ajinkya Rahane: “No one within the team has an issue with Pujara’s approach. It doesn’t matter to us what people say outside. We know how much he contributed in Australia.”

Did England dominate India in the Test series?

Ajinkya Rahane: “It’s important to not overthink after a defeat. We need to stay together as a team. Yes, England dominated the first Test and we respect that. Our focus is only on trying to improve moving forward.”

IND vs ENG: Manoj Tiwary Field Set up for Joe Root – Explained

Manoj Tiwary Field set up for Joe Root
Manoj Tiwary Field set up for Joe Root

Manoj Tiwary shared a ‘field set up plan’ for Joe Root ahead of the 2nd Test between India and England.

Manoj Tiwary shared Field set up for Joe Root

Tiwary also said that the plan was for spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar. In the photo, there were a total of seven fielders on the on side and just two on the off side. Surprisingly, there was no fielder in the spin cordon as Tiwary wrote:

“Since JoeRoot is in red hot form wit d bat. I have chalked out a field placement plan 4 Ashwin nd Washington if it might help. Dis plan is only 4 Spinning friendly pitches. 7/2 on the On side wit No slip catcher. Zoom in d picture guys 4 detailed reasoning ”

Manoj Tiwary Fielding set up explanation

Tiwary put a short third man for a top edge and a mid-off – his only two fielders in the off-side.

Keeping Root’s preferred sweep shot against the off-spinners in mind, Tiwary kept a leg slip, a forward short leg and a short mid-wicket has his close-in fielders in the catching fielders.

His other four fielders were a deep-square leg (20 yards up from the boundary rope) perhaps for a top edge, a short square leg in catching position, a deep mid-wicket, and widish mid-on.

Tiwary did not forget to mention that his field position will only come into play if the pitch is assisting the spinners.

Joe Root’s impressive knock in India vs England 1st Test

Root came up with a landmark double ton in Chennai to help England thrash India at home. Root played out a memorable 218-run knock and the England skipper also became the first batsman to score a double century on his 100th Test appearance. Riding on Root’s batting masterclass, England managed to erect a challenging 1st innings total of 578.

Asked to chase down a record total of 420, Virat Kohli-led Team India folded for a 192 in their 2nd innings to eventually lose the 1st Test by 227 runs.

“I’m very proud of the way we’ve played this week. We have set a benchmark now, we’ve got something to work for to compare ourselves. Still there are areas we can improve on. We can still get better,” Root had said after England’s historic win over India.

IND vs ENG: Jofra Archer Ruled Out of Second Test

England’s right-arm fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the second Test of the four-match series against India. Which will run from February 13 to February 17, 2021 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Jofra Archer Ruled out of the second Test vs India

Archer has sustained an elbow injury and for the same reason didn’t attend England’s training season on Thursday, February 11 as the team returned to practice after scripting a stunning victory in the first Test by a massive 227 runs.

“Jofra Archer will miss England Men’s second Test against India in Chennai starting on Saturday after having an injection in his right elbow. The injection follows discomfort the fast bowler experienced during the 227-run win in the first Test at the same venue,” ECB said in a release.

However, ECB clarified that Archer’s issue is not related to any previous injury and he is expected to recover in time for the third Test in Ahmedabad.

4 More Changes in England Squad

Other than Archer, England have made 4 changes in the team with the likes of James Anderson, Dom Bess, and Jos Buttler also being benched.

“England to make four changes in the final XII. Bess, Anderson, Archer, and Buttler miss out. We are giving Anderson the best opportunity to be fully fit for the last two Tests,” skipper Root said in a virtual press conference organised by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Friday.

England’s 12-man squad for 2nd Test against India in Chennai

Dom Sibley, Rory Burns, Dan Lawrence, Joe Root(C), Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes, Jack Leach, Olly Stone.

England have also had a few injury issues since the start of the series. Earlier last week, opener Zak Crawley was ruled out due to a wrist injury. He had injured himself during England’s practice Test in Chennai.

Much has been said about Jonny Bairstow’s continuous absence from the Test team. Root did confirm that it would be Foakes who will take the gloves in Jos Buttler’s absence for the next three Tests while Bairstow will feature in the third and fourth Test as a specialist batsman.

VVS Laxman Suggest THESE to Strengthen the Team Ahead of T20 WC

    VVS Laxman
    VVS Laxman

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has picked up two important areas that Team India needs to address before the T20 WC gets underway in October this year. The seventh edition of the T20 World Cup, which was supposed to be held last year in Australia, will be played during the October-November window in India later this year.

In a recent interaction, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman talked about some key aspects on which the team needs to focus in order to win the T20 WC 2021.

    VVS Laxman Praises Hardik Pandya

For the latter, Laxman has opined that there’s no one better than pace-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya who is known for his ability to score big runs while accelerating the innings for his team.

    Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah
    Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah

“As far as the T20 World Cup is concerned, the balance of the squad is very very important. There are two areas where India really requires firepower. Number one is the finisher. We depend overly on Hardik Pandya. Apart from Hardik Pandya, I don’t see anyone else who can play that finisher’s role,” said VVS Laxman during Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

The 46-year-old veteran batsman believes that Rishabh Pant in the middle-order could provide the ideal assistance to Hardik Pandya in finishing games for India, as far as the T20 World Cup is concerned.

“Yes, there is KL Rahul, he is getting an opportunity but in T20s it is more top of the order. So, will they draft in Rishabh Pant who is a left-hand batsman and can play the big shots and finish off the innings well with Hardik Pandya,” the 46-year-old added.

VVS Laxman’s Advice for Bowling Unit

Coming to the bowling department, Laxman has reflected on who could partner with Jasprit Bumrah in the death overs. Laxman has favoured the promising T Natarajan, who made his debut in Australia, for the position while suggesting that Virat Kohli should assign specified roles to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the Tamil Nadu pacer.

“And in the bowling department, who along with Bumrah can bowl those death overs. We have got options in Natarajan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But that is one area in the bowling department which Virat Kohli requires to address,” concluded the former Indian batsman.

Mark Butcher Highlights Difference Between India and England

    0
    Mark Butcher
    Mark Butcher

Former England opener Mark Butcher believes the difference between India and England were made by the No.1 all-rounders of both sides.

Mark Butcher differentiate India and England

Butcher said England’s No.1 all-rounder Ben Stokes’ return gave major to the Joe Root led side while India missing their best all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hurt them a lot.

“Two huge aspects, England have their No.1 all-rounder Ben Stokes back and for India, they are missing their No.1 all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja,” Butcher said on Star Sports during the first Test in Chennai which England won by 227 runs.

Stokes was rested from the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. The all-rounder played a quickfire 82 in England’s first innings and also got the important wicket of Virat Kohli on the final day of the Test to help England to a 1-0 lead.

India, on the other hand, were without Jadeja, who has been ruled out of the first two Tests of this after fracturing his left thumb. Jadeja had suffered the injury while batting during the third Test in Australia.

The all-rounder’s services were badly missed as India had to play Shahbaz Nadeem and Washington Sundar, both of them failed to impress with the ball, resulting in England posting a mammoth 578 in the first innings, which proved to be the deciding factor in the first Test.

“Talk about it in the field and also his abilities to bowl maidens as well. He has been a huge miss for India and Stokes a huge plus for England,” said Butcher.

India are likely to make at least one change for the second Test which begins on Saturday at the same venue. All-rounder Axar Patel who is a like-for-like replacement for Jadeja is set to make his Test debut, replacing Nadeem.

As every year the hype to bid for batsmen will not be less for this year. Teams highly believe a good batsman can win games from nowhere, that too in Indian Conditions. There are big names like Aaron Finch, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell who were released by the teams from their last year’s squad, so they get back into the auction.
