Check: IPL 2021 Auction Live Streaming Online – Full Coverage

One of the most expected IPL Team is CSK – Chennai Super Kings released the Harbhajan Singh and he was left on Auction. As a good replacement, they picked Krishnappa Gowtham(Age – 32 years).

Age and Experience may be a factor again for CSK. But we couldn’t see any good performance of Krishanappa Gowtham and still MSD & the management will not do anything without a plan.

Last year it was a big drama for the CSK fans as they didn’t perform as expected.

In 2021, it was again a huge expectation on MS Dhoni & the CSK management.

    Players Released by CSK

Piyush Chawla, Murali Vijay, Kedar Jadhav, Murali Vijay, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Monu Singh, and Shane Watson(retired).

We can expect a replacement for each on CSK. Even though there may not be a complete replacement, we can expect some good purchases for the season.

Former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja praised Virat Kohli for his impressive performance in the 2nd Test vs England at Chennai. He said that watching him bat was like seeing Rolls Royce bat.

    Ramiz Raja praised Virat Kohli

After losing the 1st Test vs England India gets under pressure to make their comeback in their home ground. With England skipper Joe Root’s impressive double ton England claim the victory by a massive 227 runs.

In the second Test match, Rohit Sharma’s impressive 161 runs made a descent lead for team India in the 1st innings. Ashwin with his 5 wicket haul bags England while scoring 134 runs.

Unexpectedly in the 2nd innings, top-order players fail to add runs to the scoreboard. In the middle skipper Kohli by joining hands with Ashwin made a steady inning and bring back India in-game.

India beat England by 317 runs in the 2nd Test match of the 4 match series.

“The batting was outstanding. When your opener scores above 160, you can’t really question the pitch. And the way Ashwin batted in the second innings using his common sense was superb. But the man who batted the best in the match was Virat Kohli. His footwork exemplary, concentration was very good on a difficult track. It felt like a Rolls Royce was batting in the middle,” Raja said in his YouTube channel.

Ever since the return of cricket, Kohli has managed some crucial fifties for India, be it 74 in Adelaide Test against Australia, or a fifty against England in first Test, or the one in the second Test. Raja went on to say that India got their selection right.

“India went ahead of the perfect team. They did not shy away from making bold selections. Axar Patel picked up five wickets on debut, Ravichandran Ashwin scored a century, picked up wickets, the catching was brilliant from India. Overall, it was a complete performance from India. They had lost the first Test, needed to make a turnaround and they did it,” he added.

“My gut feeling says, England will be battered in the rest of the series. India are now in form,” he said.

The 3rd Test match is scheduled to play in Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad from February 24.

Sri Lanka vs West Indies: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Tuesday confirmed that the team will tour West Indies to play the all-format series, starting on March 3.

Sri Lanka tour of West Indies

The Sri Lanka team will depart for the Caribbean on 23 February, before playing matches across all formats from 3 March. The entirety of the tour will be played in a bio-secure environment in Antigua at Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) and Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS)

The campaign will begin with three T20s at CCG from 3 to 7 March, before three ODIs at SVRS from 10 to 14 March. Sri Lanka will then play a two-day warm-up match at CCG on 17-18 March, before the first Test at SVRS from 21 to 25 March.

The two Tests will each count towards the World Test Championship.

    Two-day warm-up match

    March 17-18 (Coolidge Cricket Ground)

    Test series

March 21-25, March 29-April 2 (Sir Vivian Richards Stadium)

Sri Lanka will be the first team to travel to the Caribbean for a men’s tour since Ireland in January 2020. The ODIs form part of the World Cup Super League, while the Tests are part of the World Test Championship (though neither side can qualify for the final).

“We are pleased to be able to finally confirm this tour,” said Ricky Skerritt, CWI’s president. “A number of Covid-19 related logistic hurdles have now been overcome and I want to thank Sri Lankan Cricket President, Shammi Silva and his team, for their co-operation in honouring their obligation to tour under the ICC FTP agreement.

“We are also extremely grateful for the support we received from the Governments of Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Lucia in planning this tour. But it is regrettable that we are unable to include St Lucia as part of this home series as we had originally hoped to due to the delay in Sri Lanka arriving and the need for the tour to end before the start of the Indian Premier League.”

Faf du Plessis Retired from Test Cricket on AB De Villiers Birthday

Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis announced his test retirement on Wednesday(17/02/2021), which is eventually on the birth date of his friend Ab De Villiers.

Faf du Plessis announced Test retirement

Du Plessis made his retirement post the Pakistan Test tour where the Proteas lost the Test series by 2-0.

South Africa under the captaincy of de Kock toured Pakistan to play 2 Test matches and 3 T20I match series. South Africa was brutally defeated by Pakistan in almost every game they played. South Africa won a single T20I match and lost the T20I series by 2-1.

With the victory, Pakistan becomes the first men’s team to reach a century of wins in the shortest format of the game.

    Australia postponed South Africa tour

The Proteas were due to face Australia in a three-match series starting later this month, but Cricket Australia opted to postpone the tour at the last minute due to Covid-19 concerns prompting Du Plessis to call time on his Test career.

“I really wanted to finish with the upcoming Test series against Australia. That would have felt like it has all come full circle. I had that clarity of mind and heart and even though the ending is not how I imagined, the clarity remains,” du Plessis told Independent Media.

The most notable wins in du Plessis’ leadership came against Australia when the Proteas beat them at home in 2018 and away from home in 2016.

Kings XI Punjab will be called Punjab Kings from the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL 2021), the franchise has opted for a change in name after giving it a long thought.

Kings XI Punjab Changed their Name ahead of IPL 2021

Of the eight sides, three teams are yet to win the title to date. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab, too, is one of the sides that awaits its maiden title win. However, come next season, it is all set to get a new identity, as it is set to undergo a name change.

“The team was planning to change the name for a long time and thought it should be done before this IPL. So it is not a sudden decision,” a BCCI source told PTI on Monday.

The franchise, jointly owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul, have failed to win an IPL title since the event’s inaugural edition in 2008.

KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the consortium that owns Kings XI, recently also purchased the Caribbean Premier League team St Lucia Zouks about a year ago.

Quarantine Rules for IPL 2021 Auction Attendees

Meanwhile, the BCCI has introduced a clause of brief quarantine for those attending the auction.

In an advisory, sent to the teams a couple of days ago, the BCCI said, “Before checking into their respective rooms, they (those arriving on February 17) will undergo a Rapid Antigen Test followed by an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 at the designated sampling kiosk set up in the hotel by the BCCI’s accredited testing agency. All individuals must quarantine in their respective rooms until results of the RT-PCR tests are available. Typically the reports will be available within 3-4 hours of sample collection.”

For those arriving on the day of the auction, the advisory says, “All personnel arriving on the 18th February 2021 must quarantine in their respective rooms until results of the RT-PCR test are available. Reports of samples collected before 9 am on 18th February 2021 will be available by 1 pm. Only those individuals who have tested negative for COVID-19 will be permitted to attend the IPL 2021 auctions.”

The auction will see 292 players, including 164 Indians, go under the hammer with close to Rs 200 crore available for the transaction.

England announces the 16 men squad for the 3rd Test match against India which is scheduled to play at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad.

    India vs England Test

England were currently on tour of India to play 4 match test series, 5 T20I along with 3 ODI matches.

In the first test match, England beat India by 227 runs where England skipper Joe Root scripts a record by hitting a double century in Chennai ground. In the followed Test match India won the toss and opt to bat first.

With Rohit Sharma‘s impressive 161 runs from 231 deliveries makes India to score 329 runs for 10 wickets loss. The strong batting order of England can’t able to withstand in front of Ashwin’s spin spell. Ashwin took his first 5 wicket haul of the year 2021 by dismissing D Sibley, Daniel Lawrence, Stokes, Olly Stone, and Broad.

In the second innings after the top order failed to score Ashwin with his impressive bat work scored 106 runs and drags India to score 286 runs. Again the Indian bowlers load pressure over the England batsman and bagged them while scoring 164 runs. Finally, India equals by 1-1 by beating England by 317 runs.

Bairstow was given a rest after the two-Test series against Sri Lanka, where he had scores of 47, 35 not out, 28, and 29.

Wood was also given a break after the series in Sri Lanka where he went wicket-less in the first Test and took three wickets in the second.

“Moeen Ali will return to England for a break while Jonny Bairstow and Mark Wood join the squad having been rested for the first two Tests,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.

Bengaluru Set to Host India vs South Africa Women’s Series

The Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has emerged as the front-runner to host next month’s limited overs series between India and South Africa women’s sides after Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) expressed its inability to stage the matches at the Greenfield Sports Hub Stadium in Thiruvanthapuram.

India vs South Africa Women’s Series

KCA secretary Sreejith V Nair told PTI that they were supposed to host eight games (three ODIs and five T20Is) from the first week of March and a 14-day training camp before that but the owners of the stadium “IL & FS” have booked the facility for an army recruitment drive for two weeks.

“IL & FS did not even inform us while booking the stadium on dates clashing with the women’s series. It is a violation of our MoU with them. We have written to the BCCI expressing our inability to host the games,” said Nair.

KCA has an agreement with the owners to manage the ground. In the wake of KCA’s withdrawal, the BCCI is looking at Bengaluru as an alternate option.

“Bengaluru is a good option but again with the COVID-19 still very much around, we are dependent on government permission and the logistics too need to be worked out. We are still targeting the first week of March to start the series,” a BCCI source told PTI.

However, both BCCI and Cricket South Africa are yet to announce the series though the Indian players have been intimated about it. The team has not played international cricket since the T20 World Cup final in March last year. Their only outing since that final was during the exhibition Women’s T20 Challenge in Sharjah in November last year.

Since the series will have to be played in a bio-bubble, the team needs to assemble at least two weeks before the first game with six days reserved for quarantine.

“The players have been training at their respective centers but of course they will need at least 10 days to train together before the series. They have been away from the game for a long time now,” the source added.

SA Captain Quinton de Kock to Take Mental-Health Break From Cricket

    0
    Quinton de Kock

South Africa captain Quinton de Kock will be taking a Mental-Health break from cricket for few weeks on medical advice, the South African Cricketers Association CEO Andrew Breetzke said on Monday.

Quinton de Kock Permitted Mental-Health Break

“On medical advice, Quinton will be on a break for a few weeks. The South African Cricketers Association and Cricket South Africa (CSA) will continue to support him through this process,” Andrew Breetzke, SACA CEO told ESPNcricinfo.

De Kock had last month spoken about the challenges of living in bio-secure bubble saying he was trying to deal with it in the best way possible despite the whole experience being “very unsettling”.

He has been in various bio-bubbles since August last year when he flew to UAE for IPL 2020 before the home series against England and Sri Lanka followed by the tour of Pakistan that ended earlier this month.

“There is a lot of nerves that goes around when it comes to the bubble – lots of small things get into your mind; things that you’re not used to in life,” he had said in January. “One day we could be living kind of normally and the next you’re in lockdown. Where do we go from there?”

“We’re stuck in a bubble, and we could be stuck in a lockdown in someplace for a certain period of time, which is the worst-case scenario. But, as a normal person, that’s the way you think about things.

Bubbles just make tours longer because of the quarantine period. You stay in your room for a certain amount of time. You get out when we are declared safe. It’s very unsettling. I don’t know how long it can last for. But, for now, you try and deal with it in the best way possible.”

Apart from leading the South Africa limited-overs sides, the wicketkeeper-batsman has also been handed over the responsibility to captain the Test side as well even though it’s a stop-gap arrangement. The added burden seems to have affected his batting form negatively.

Cricket South Africa’s director of cricket Graeme Smith on Monday had said that all nationally contracted cricketers will have to play in the domestic competition.

India vs England: Shami, Navdeep Saini Likely to Return to the Test Squad

Mohammed Shami, and Navdeep Saini likely to return to England Test series

Team India will be boosted by the return of Mohammed Shami, and Navdeep Saini for the ongoing England Test series.

Shami, Navdeep Saini Likely to join England Test series

The duo has said to be recovered from their injuries and have been asked by the team management to not play the Vijay Hazare Trophy which is scheduled to begin from February 20.

“Saini is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He has bowling at full tilt. The Delhi selectors wanted to have his services for the Vijay Hazare Trophy but Saini was asked to stay back at NCA as he is likely to join the team in Ahmedabad,” a BCCI source told Times of India.

Shami has resumed bowling 10 days ago and is close to attaining match fitness. It was also reported by the daily that BCCI will be forming a bank of T20 and Test players in absence of ‘A’ Tours. These players will stand ready to fill in the gaps if someone from the national team gets injured.

Selectors making ‘A’ pool of T20 reserves in World Cup year

It is also learnt that the selection committee is looking at forming a pool of T20 specialists from domestic cricket. This pool will be training with the Indian team and the NCA at different times.

“One must realise there has been no India ‘A’ tours in the last year and it is difficult to hold one in the near future. This is essentially the ‘A’ team,” the source said. Players like Ishan Kishan, Nitish Rana and Sidharth Kaul will be part of the pool.

    Ishan Kishan
    Ishan Kishan

“This is the reason they were asked to report to NCA for fitness tests. These players have been informed that they will be in standbys for the India T20I team. This is the reason why Rana wasn’t made the captain of the Delhi team for the Vijay Hazare tournament. These players could be called into the Indian team anytime. They will be essentially appearing for trials,” the source added.

The same policy has been adopted for the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran and Priyank Panchal, who have been regulars on ‘A’ tours in the last tour. They are still with the Indian Test team.

Pant likely to come back in limited-overs cricket

With Rishabh Pant striking form in Test cricket, the selectors are likely to bring him back into the white-ball scheme of things after he was dropped from the white-ball leg during the Australia tour, with Sanju Samson slipping down the ladder of preference.

Naman Ojha Announced Retirement From All Forms of Cricket

    Naman Ojha

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Naman Ojha, at the age of 37, has announced his retirement on Monday(15-02-2021) from all forms of cricket.

The Madhya Pradesh born cricketer holds the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in the Ranji Trophy, has featured in one Test, one ODI, and two T20 Internationals.

    Naman Ojha Announced Retirement

    Ojha Maiden Test

Ojha had to wait for nearly 14 years for his maiden Test call-up. An injury to Wriddhiman Saha during the England tour, in 2014, saw Ojha being called-up for the 4th Test at Old Trafford. Since MS Dhoni was still leading the team, Ojha sat out.

A year later, Ojha was recalled to the Test side after Saha missed the 3rd Test against Sri Lanka. He scored 56 runs on his Test debut. In 2016, the selectors decided against recalling Ojha after Saha was ruled out for the final three Tests against England.

His 3 white-ball appearances came on the Zimbabwe tour, under Suresh Raina, in 2010. Ojha scored one run in 50-over cricket and 12 runs in 2 T20Is.

“After 20 years in first-class cricket and many more during the junior competitions, I feel it’s time for me to move on. It was a long journey and a wonderful phase of my life,” Ojha said.

“I am grateful to all who supported me in achieving the dream of playing for my country and state – my coaches, trainers, physios and selectors, my captains and teammates, my family and well-wishers, and MPCA & BCCI.”

While he has retired from international and domestic cricket, Ojha hopes to play foreign leagues and said:

“While I leave the competitive format of the game for my State and Country with best of memories, I shall be keen to wear the gloves and face the ball in global competitions. Cricket has given me best of almost everything in my life till date. In future, I shall strive hard to return back to this beautiful game to the best of my abilities.”

After announcing his retirement in Indore on Tuesday, an emotional Ojha said that he took the tough call in order to prolong his shortest-format career in overseas leagues.

    Naman Ojha’s cricket carrier

Ojha finished his career with 9,753 runs in First-Class cricket at 41.67 and also has 471 dismissals, including 54 stumpings, to his name.

With 7,861 runs in the Ranji Trophy, Ojha finished as the eighth highest run-getter in the tournament. Add to that the fact that his 351 dismissals in Ranji Trophy are the most by a wicketkeeper in the tournament’s history.

Ojha was a member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s title-winning squad in the IPL. Besides representing Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils earlier in the T20 league.
