Jimmy Anderson Hopes to be Reunited with Formidable Partner Stuart Broad

Jimmy Anderson admits he wonders whether England will ever again employ his strike partnership with Stuart Broad that has brought more than 1,100 Test wickets.

Jimmy Anderson on playing with Stuart Broad

Anderson hopes to be reunited with Broad with the pink ball under lights in Ahmedabad in the third Test but fears their days together may be numbered.

‘It’s another tricky one to predict,’ said Anderson of the make-up of England’s pace attack on Wednesday.

‘We have so many good fast bowlers in our group now. Olly Stoke was brilliant in the second Test, Mark Wood is back out here and if Jofra Archer is fit too we have a lot to choose from.

‘I love bowling with Stuart but It has definitely crossed our minds (that they have played their last Test together). I just hope there will be times in a crucial match when they will need our experience. All we can do is try to stay in the best shape possible and if we do get the nod together next summer or in the back end of the year do our best for the team.’

Anderson, 38, says the pink SG ball that will be used on Wednesday has been ‘swinging a bit’ in the nets but he expects none of the reverse swing that saw him make such a spectacular impact in the first Test before he was rested for the second.

‘The pitch has got grass on it but I am pretty sure it won’t be there when we turn up on match day,’ said Anderson. ‘If it turns out to be really abrasive there might be a little bit of reverse but I’m not expecting it from how the ball has performed in nets.’

England’s record wicket-taker was ‘frustrated’ to be left out after doing so well in the first Test win in Chennai but says he can ‘see the bigger picture’ and does not feel he is being overly protected while in the best shape and form of his career.

‘I don’t think I’m being shielded,’ he added. ‘It’s a case of trying to stay fit as long as possible and England not bowling anyone into the dirt until they break. The best way to get your best players firing as long as possible is to give them a little rest every now and then.’

Meanwhile India’s Rohit Sharma has defended the controversial second Test pitch in Chennai and India’s right to use home advantage.

‘Pitches have been prepared like this in India for years,’ said Sharma, whose 161 set up India’s series’-levelling victory. ‘Every side takes advantage of home conditions. When we travel people make it difficult for us.’

Robin Uthappa, after being traded on an all-cash deal exactly a month ago has finally come out in front of the CSK fans in the yellow jersey.

    Robin Uthappa address CSK fans

“Vanakkam Chennai, epdi irukeenga? (Hello Chennai, how are you?),” he said.

“First of all, I’d like to say thanks to all the CSK fans for the wonderful welcome I’ve received over the last few weeks. This message is a bit long-pending, but I’m glad that ‘late aanaalum latest ah pannirken’ (I’m latest even if I’m late – referring to a dialogue from a Tamil movie).

Uthappa, who last played with CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2008, couldn’t wait to play alongside him again after such a long gap and also shed some light on his desire, which he wishes to fulfill in the upcoming season, and added that he was also excited to share the dressing room with the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina again, with whom he has played before.

“Thanks so much for all the love and support I’ve received so far. Honestly, it’s a bit of a desire come true for me. I had a desire to play with him (MS Dhoni) again and win a tournament once before he retires. So it’s a blessing to get an opportunity to play for CSK,” he added.

“Not just that, I’ll get to play with a lot of players I grew up with. Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina… I’ve been playing with them since Under-17. So I’m very very happy that I’m a part of CSK. I’ll work hard and play well if I get an opportunity. And I’m looking forward to coming there and entertaining all of you.”

This will be Uthappa’s sixth IPL franchise after representing Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders in the past, and the latest being Rajasthan Royals.

Chennai Super Kings added England all-rounder Moeen Ali, Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham and India’s Test No 3 Cheteshwar Pujara, amongst the notable picks in the recent auction, along with a few uncapped players.

Uthappa, who was bought by the Royals before the 2019 season for INR 3 crores, played 12 matches for the men in pink and could only muster 196 runs at an average of 16.

Virat Kohli Explains How Sachin Tendulkar helps him to Battle Depression

Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday said he is proud of Virat Kohli after the Indian skipper decided to open up on his battle against depression in 2014 during the tour of England.

    Virat Kohli praises Sachin Tendulkar

“I did have a chat with him about the mental side of things as well and the thing that he told me was, in cricket what he experienced was if you are going through a strong negative feeling and if that is coming into your system regularly, it is best to let it pass.

If you start fighting that feeling, it grows stronger. So, that is the advice I took on board and my mindset really opened up from then on,” Kohli told renowned broadcaster Mark Nicholas on the latter’s podcast ‘Not Just Cricket’ according to ANI.

Kohli has played in 31 ODIS (including the 2011 ODI World Cup) and 17 Tests with Tendulkar between 2009 and 2013.

The India captain also said he didn’t know how to get over the negative feelings during that England tour in which he averaged 13.50 in the Test series.

“I did (feel depressed). It’s not a great feeling when wake up knowing that you won’t be able to score any runs and I think all batsmen have felt that at some stage or the other that you are not in control of anything at all. And you just don’t understand how to get over it.

I think when you look back at a very difficult phase, you realise that you had to go through that phase fully to be able to understand what is wrong and rectify and move forward and open yourself up for change. That was a phase where I literally couldn’t do anything to overturn what I was going through. I felt like I was the loneliest guy in the world,” said Kohli, recalling the England tour back in 2014.

He also said: “For me, personally, that was a revelation that you could feel that lonely even though you a part of a big group. I won’t say I didn’t have people that I could speak to but not having a professional to speak to who could understand what I am going through completely, I think is a huge factor. I think I would like to see it change.

Someone that you can go to at any stage, have a conversation around, and say ‘Listen this is what I am feeling, I am finding it hard to even go to sleep, I feel like I don’t want to wake up in the morning. I have no confidence in myself, what do I do?'”

    Sachin Tendulkar’s Reply

Tendulkar, on Saturday, retweeted a story done by HT on Kohli’s podcast interview and expressed how he felt about the India skipper’s words.

“@imVkohli, proud of your success & decision to share such personal experiences,” he wrote

“These days youngsters are constantly judged on social media. Thousands speak about them but not to them. We need to be able to listen to them and help them flourish,” Tendulkar added.

Kohli will lead India in the third Test against England, which will be a day-night pink-ball affair in Ahmedabad starting from February 24.

Ishan Kishan set social media in fire with his breathtaking batting display that gave the perfect start to the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021 on Saturday.

Ishan Kishan slams 173 runs in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Kishan slammed 11 sixes and 19 fours on his way to a scintillating 173 off just 94 balls in the Elite Group B match between Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.

After being sent in to bat first, Jharkhand skipper Ishan Kishan started off watchfully. Kishan’s opening partner Utkarsh Singh was dismissed in the third over for 6 but that was the only joy Madhya Pradesh had with the new ball.

Kishan then took matters into his own hands and started to play his shots. He got to his fifty off 40 balls and started accelerating even more.

Thanks to Kishan’s attacking batting, Jharkhand brought up their hundred in 16.2 overs.

The stylish left-hander who represents the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, continued to toy with the MP bowlers. Kishan reached his fourth List A century off just 74 balls.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Ishan Kishan’s century in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021

He took 12 more deliveries to bring up his 150. Just when he was looking set for a double hundred and more, Kishan was out stumped for 173.

Kishan was not at his best in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20s. He managed only one half-century in five matches as Jharkhand failed to make it to the knockout stages.

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell says that he is keen to play under India skipper Virat Kohli in IPL 2021. Glenn Maxwell was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a hefty ₹14.25 crore at the IPL 2021 auction.

Maxwell Excited to play under Virat Kohli in IPL 2021

Now, Maxwell has expressed his excitement saying that he is keen to play under India skipper Virat Kohli. The maverick Australian all-rounder added that he is hoping that the franchise clinches their maiden title in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

The Big Show can add firepower to the side’s batting unit and is looking forward to playing under Kohli, and along with AB de Villiers.

In a video message posted on the social media accounts of the Bangalore-based outfit, Maxwell also mentioned that he is equally excited about joining some of his other friends in the side including Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson and an old friend Yuzvendra Chahal.

Despite having the prowess of Kohli and the experience and power-hitting of ABD, the franchise has failed in bagging a single title in the tournament.

Maxwell said it was pretty exciting for him and stayed up all night to watch the incredible auction. He expressed his gratitude for all the messages and support he had been receiving since his pricey purchase.

“So looking forward to hitting this IPL full steam ahead and getting RCB their first title this year,” he signed off.

Maxwell earned big bucks when Punjab Kings spent ₹10.75 crore on him last year. However, the right-handed batsman scored just 108 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2020 at a strike rate of 101.88 and at an average of 15.42.

Meanwhile, South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris purchased for ₹16.25 crore and New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson at ₹15 crores beat Maxwell in the most expensive players at the auction.

Saba Karim Breaks Reason for Umesh Yadav’s Rejection in IPL

Former India wicket-keeper Saba Karim opens the reason for Umesh Yadav’s rejection in IPL format.

    Delhi Capitals roped Umesh Yadav

Umesh Yadav is one of the premier pacers for India in the longest format of the game. The speedster is a regular feature in Test cricket for India and has been in the team for a long time. But that hasn’t propelled him to have a successful career in the shorter formats.

In ODI and T20 cricket, Umesh has had the tendency to stray his line and go for runs. He has been out of the limited-overs squad as he last played a 50-over match for India in 2018.

In the IPL 2021 auction also, Umesh was sold to Delhi Capitals for his base price of ₹1 crore while several foreign players went for big sums.

Saba Karim on Umesh Yadav’s rejection in IPL

Former India wicket-keeper Saba Karim talked about the reason behind this and why the IPL franchises opt to go for overseas recruits.

“Umesh Yadav may be experienced but only in terms of Test matches, not in the shorter formats. Look at the Indian side’s composition in the shorter formats, you don’t see Umesh Yadav figuring regularly in the playing XI or even in the squad.

It obviously means that Umesh Yadav’s track record in the shorter formats hasn’t been very good. All the IPL franchises have done their homework and that is why they have shown more faith in overseas speedsters than any exciting domestic prospect or even an experienced Indian pacer like Umesh Yadav,” Karim told Sportskeeda.

“Out and out speedsters, most of the franchises have opted for overseas professionals [sic]. All these IPL franchises, their talent scouts have looked around, they have watched some of these T20s all over the world, including the Big Bash. From there, a lot of these overseas professionals have been bought by the IPL franchises.”

Franchises have shown faith in these young speedsters because they feel that they have the skill set to do well even in Indian conditions.

If you notice, in the past several years, most of the wickets in India, except for maybe east and one or two tracks in the south, now offer good pace and bounce. Most of these franchises wanted experienced speedsters at the top, who can pick some early wickets, and make early inroads in the opposition camp.”

England limited-overs batsman Sam Billings was trolled by his girlfriend after he went unsold in the first round of IPL auction 2021.

Sam Billings Trolled by his Girlfriend

The first round of the IPL 2021 auction saw plenty of eye-catching moments as Morris, Jhye Richardson (14 cr to Punjab Kings) and Nathan Coulter Nile (5 cr to Mumbai Indians) were some of the bowlers who created a buzz.

Soon after Billing went unsold in the first round, he took to Twitter to write, “My girlfriend Sarah just turns to me and goes… ‘why aren’t you a bowler?’”

Billings, who has so far featured in 22 IPL matches, eventually found a bidder as Delhi Capitals (DC) bought him for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

Welcoming Billings to the squad, DC tweeted, “They’re Billing(s) Sam to DC, and we couldn’t be happier to pay those ₹ 2 Cr.”

Expressing his excitement after reuniting with his old franchise, Billings tweeted, “Back to where my @IPL journey began! Can’t wait to join up with the @DelhiCapitals #YehHaiNayiDilli,” he wrote.

“It’s great to be back with Delhi Capitals – that’s where my IPL journey started, spent two amazing years there. This is a squad which speaks for itself, young Indian talents – Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, to be back in the same team with those guys is incredibly exciting. Two of my good mates in Chris Woakes and Tom Curran, fellow countrymen, to join with those guys should be great. Not to mention, Ricky Ponting, heard a lot of very good things about working with him. Really looking forward to stepping up my game with a coach like that. It’s great to be back in Delhi, it’s great to be back in the IPL and I am really looking forward to it,” Billings said in a video shared by Delhi Capitals.

ICC Replied to Sam Billing’s Tweet

After Billings tweeted, the official account of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Twitter replied to the tweet. In that tweet, ICC shared the bowling stats of Sam Billings. In that image, it was seen that Billings who generally keeps wickets has almost never bowled in an official match. It was seen that he bowled only once in a first-class match, where he bowled one ball and was hit for a boundary.

Rashid Khan made a quick reply

Afghan spinner Rashid Khan agreed to teach him the spin in turn he demands Sam Billings to teach him some batting techniques.

England’s Players will Benefit from IPL 2021, Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow believes England will ultimately gain from their players’ involvement in the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2021 even if it means they miss some international matches.

    Jonny Bairstow on IPL 2021

The wicketkeeper-batsman, already retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2021. Chris Morris became the most expensive player bought in the IPL 2021 Auction when Rajasthan Royals splashed out $2.25 million (£1.6 million) on the South Africa all-rounder.

    Chris Morris
    Chris Morris

The Chennai Super Kings snapped up Moeen Ali for around $950,000 just days after the off-spinning all-rounder was released by England for a pre-arranged rest break. It is a far cry from the days when the England management fell out with Kevin Pietersen over the star batsman’s involvement in the lucrative Twenty20 tournament.

England have already rested players from overseas duty this year while accepting they will play in the IPL.

It is also possible that those involved in the IPL play-offs could miss the first Test of their home 2021 season, against New Zealand in June.

Players that could be missing include Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran and Moeen.

But with several members of England’s 2019 50-over World Cup-winning side benefiting from IPL experience, Bairstow is in no doubt about the benefits provided by the competition.

“I think it’s part and parcel of the game at the moment,” he told a conference call with British-based reporters.

“If the guys are going to IPL and improving their skills, that doesn’t mean it’s just T20 skills. It’s improving their skills for ODI (one-day international) cricket and for Test cricket as well.

“It covers all three formats, playing alongside some of the best players in the world, not to mention in conditions similar to ones we are playing in currently and especially with a T20 World Cup coming up here in India (later in 2021).”

The 31-year-old Yorkshireman added: “If you look at our away record I think we’ve won six out of our last seven Tests and the (strong) performances we’ve had in ODI and T20 cricket over the last 12-24 months.

“Those results don’t come by prioritising one format over another.”

Bairstow was rested from the opening two matches of England’s ongoing Test series in India, which is tied at 1-1 but he could replace the struggling Dan Lawrence in next week’s clash in Ahmedabad.

VVS Laxman Opens Talk on the Venue Details for the IPL 2021

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet decided on the venue for the upcoming 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) even as the eight franchises finalised their squads for the 14th edition of the tournament at Thursday’s auction.

VVS Laxman on IPL 2021 Venue details

IPL 2021 mini-auction has concluded on Thursday(18/02/2021) at Chennai. All 8 teams participate and roped the needed player for them. Post the IPL 2021 auction the next major talk raises regarding the schedule and venues for the IPL 2021 matches.

“There’s no clarity as of now. The BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] will weigh various options, and do whatever is best for the tournament. We know it’s a high-profile tournament and there are various stakeholders who play a very important part in the tournament,” said VVS Laxman, mentor of the SunRisers Hyderabad on Thursday.

“Even if the tournament happens in India you get different conditions in different parts of the country. If you go to Chennai then you get a turner. In Mumbai or Bengaluru, you get belters for the batsmen. So there’s a reason why we have a squad of 25,” said Laxman while explaining that all the squads fullfil all the requirements for various conditions.

Where did IPL 2021 schedule to play?

Although the BCCI has made it clear that the 14the edition of the cash-rich T20 tournament will be played in India this time around, after the last year’s tournament was played in UAE due to COVID-19, there is still no confirmation on the venue.

A final decision on whether the IPL will be held in India — or, in extreme will be staged overseas, like last year when it was held in the United Arab Emirates from September-November — will be taken by the Union government due to Covid-19 pandemic.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal had recently said that they would look to create a hub(s) for the tournament as they plan to bring the IPL back to the country.

Krishnappa Gowtham was picked up for a mammoth price of ₹9.25 crore by Chennai Super Kings(CSK) despite having a base price of just ₹20 lakh in the IPL 2021 Auction.

Many players have can get bogged down by the pressure of the price tag but the spinner has said that he won’t let the big price tag affect his performance when he dons the yellow jersey for CSK.

Previously, Gowtham played for Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 before he was picked by Punjab Kings ahead of the 2020 season.

    Krishnappa Gowtham Thanked CSK

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opened the bidding for Gowtham at his base price of ₹20 lakh but CSK eventually picked him up for ₹9.25 crore.

“I am literally like shivering and have no words to explain. That’s not got into my system yet. It is a dream come true. Always idolise Mahi (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) bhai. The way he is as a human and the way he plays the game and finishes the games off. So yeah, this was something I always envied about him,” said Gowtham in a video on IPL’s website.

Gowtham now looks forward to learn from the rich experience of former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He is also not worried about his price tag and wants to concentrate on delivering for his side in the upcoming IPL.

“Now that I would be able to share the dressing room and I would learn a lot of things. Was just trying to relax but it never happen, my nerves were really high. I was texting my wife,” said Gowtham.

“Playing alongside the legends of the game like Raina and Dhoni. So would love to learn the way they handle the game. Not too worried because of the price tag because at a given we have to go out and perform. Having that badge on your head will put unwanted pressure. It’s just you need to go out there and express yourself is what I look up to and do that,” he added.

    K Gowtham Carrier so far

The 32-year-old has played 62 T20s in his career and has scored 594 runs at a strike rate of 159.24. He also has 41 wickets in the shortest format of the game at 35.41 and an economy rate of 7.60 runs per over.

Gowtham comes in as another all-rounder in a CSK line-up full of established all-rounders like Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sam Curran.

While Jadeja is still out injured, Bravo and Curran are likely to make the starting XI and Gowtham could come into the picture if Jadeja doesn’t attain match fitness by the start of the season.

CSK bought six players, headlined by England all-rounder Moeen Ali and Gowtham and batsman Cheteshwar Pujara.

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar thanked the Mumbai Indians(MI) team management and franchise officials for picking him up in the IPL Auction 2021 in Chennai on Thursday.

Even before the IPL 2021 auction started, all eyes were on Arjun Tendulkar, as to which team would bid for him and for what price. Eventually, Mumbai Indians did pick him up for a base price of Rs 20 lakh. The junior Tendulkar — a fast bowler in the making, thanked the team management and officials for picking him up.

    Arjun Tendulkar thanked MI

The 21-year-old left armer released a video for the same.

In the video, he said, “Since childhood, I have been a die-hard fan of Mumbai Indians. I would like to thank the coaches, owners, and the support staff for showing faith in me. I can’t wait to put on the blue and gold (jersey),” Arjun Tendulkar said in a video message after the IPL 2021 auction.

Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, also posted a tweet welcoming the left-arm fast-bowling all-round to their set up.

“Cricket in his blood. Refined in the nets. Now ready to take the 22-yards by storm. Welcome home, Arjun Tendulkar!” Mumbai Indians posted on twitter after buying him at the auction.

Arjun, 21, has been earlier seen in the net sessions of the team. He was in UAE with the squad during the 13th edition of the IPL as well.

Arjun Tendulkar made his senior debut for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 during the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He leaked 34 runs for 1 wicket and did not get to face any ball after coming in to bat at the 11th position.

Arjun had been playing for Mumbai at the U-19 level and other age-group competitions. He was part of the Mumbai T20 league which was played in 2019.

Arjun Tendulkar has earlier represented Mumbai Under-19 and India Under-19. He was first picked for India U-19 in June 2018 for two four-day matches in Sri Lanka. He has been seen bowling in the Mumbai Indians and India nets on several occasions.
