Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta shared a substantial insight ahead 3rd Test which takes place at at Motera stadium.

The excitement level has already gone a few notches higher as it’s going to be a day-night affair in front of 50,000 fans.

In a conversation with Sports Today, he said that newly-placed orange chairs in the Motera Stadium can make the fielders’ job quite troublesome as the pink ball seems a little orangish.

“There will be 50 odd thousand people sitting in the stands. The first thing that I noticed that the chairs were orange. This Pink ball is a little orangish so that would make the fielder’s life that much more troublesome because I found it pretty difficult because the England team was practicing. They were taking catches and I found it very difficult to sight the ball at times. We actually saw few catches being dropped in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today.

“It’s imperative for India to win. Well, the draw is a possibility. India can afford a draw. Looking at things how Test match cricket is off late, very rarely you see draws. I mean the win is imperative as simple as that,” Deep Dasgupta said when he was asked about the prediction on the match.

The 4-match series is already levelled 1-1. It’s going to be a cracker of a contest from here on as none of the sides can afford a loss as they eye the final berth at the ICC World Test Championship.

Spinners puts pressure over England batsmen

In the third test match England won the toss and elected to bat first in the iconic Motera stadium. Engalnd cricketers struggles to face the Virat Kohli led Indian bowlers and starts to losing wickets in a frequent interval of time.

England’s Zak Crawley scored the highest of 53 run which manages England to score 81 runs for 6 wickets loss as of 2nd session of the 1st day. Axar Patel bags 3 wickets while Ashwin bags a couple of wickets where Ishant sharma stands with one.

Mitchell Starc and Steven Smith have withdrawn from the New South Wales squad to face Victoria in the Sheffield Shield at Bankstown Oval starting on Thursday.

Starc will miss the game following the passing of his father Paul on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. Starc’s wife Alyssa Healy also withdrew from New South Wales’ next two WNCL fixtures.

“All our thoughts and prayers are going out to Mitch and his family,” said team-mate Nathn Lyon said. “It’s a tough time for Mitch but he knows he has all our love and support from, just not me, but from everyone here at New South Wales Cricket and the cricket community as well.”

Smith will miss the clash, which was relocated from Melbourne to Sydney, due to an elbow issue that has flared up.

“I have had some pain in my elbow that’s gradually worsened since the Test against India at the SCG and it requires some rest and rehab,” Smith said. “I am hoping I will be right to travel with the Blues to Adelaide for our games down there next week but we will have to see how it responds to treatment.”

Lyon said Smith had been struggling to hold the bat at training. “He tried to have a hit yesterday. He was just in discomfort, pain. All I know is it mustn’t be great if he’s missing a game of cricket, especially for New South Wales.”

David Warner is still unavailable due to his groin injury but he stated on Tuesday that he was aiming to return for the Blues Marsh Cup clash with South Australia on March 4 in Adelaide.

India vs England: Ashwin is on Verge of Reaching 400 Test wickets

Ravichandran Ashwin, currently on 394 Test wickets, is on the verge of becoming the second-fastest bowler to pick 400 wickets.

Ashwin is on Verge of Picking 400 Test Wickets

If Ashwin can take six or more wickets in the 3rd Test between India and England starting later this week, he will beat Sir Richard Hadlee of New Zealand and Dale Steyn of South Africa, who are tied at the second position.

Steyn and Hadlee had taken 80 Tests to reach the mark. If Ashwin joins club 400 in the Day/Night Test in Motera, he would reach the mark in his 77th Test. Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan is at the top of the list as he had taken 72 Tests to claim 400 wickets.

Additionally, Ashwin will become the sixth spinner to take 400 wickets, and will only be the third Indian spinner to get to the mark after Anil Kumble (619) and Harbhajan Singh (417).

In the course of his match-winning performance in the 2nd Test, Ashwin overtook Harbhajan to become the second most prolific spinner for India at home. He now has 266 victims at home in the longest format of the game in just 45 Tests at an outstanding average of 22.64. Former India captain Anil Kumble leads the list with 350 wickets from 62 matches in India.

    Gambhir Praises Ashwin

Speaking on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected chat show, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir said that it is unfortunate that the India off-spinner is not a part of the white-ball scheme of things.

“Someone who is coming close to taking 400 wickets and the same time getting five Test hundreds and still not being part of the white-ball scheme of things is very unfortunate. He is just a class act,” Gambhir said.

“He is just a quality bowler and his subtle variations. The amount of cricket he has played and the longevity he has played with and still the kind of impact he has had, it is just unbelievable,” Gambhir added.

    Ashish Nehra praises Ashwin

Former India pacer Ashish further praised Ashwin and said that the 33-year-old is a good student of the game.

“This is not the first time that Ravichandran Ashwin has made such a big impact when you are playing at home. When you talk about how he is so different, first thing of course he has so much experience and so much confidence when you are playing at home, when he knows these wickets are going to be helpful to him,” Nehra said.

Ashwin is currently in the 11 man squad of the Virat Kohli led Indian team which faces  England in a 4 match test series. India equals the series by 1-1 where the third match is scheduled to play on February 24 at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad.

BCB Enter Into A New Contract With The Players, Says BCB Chief

After Shakib Al Hasan prefered to get part in the IPL league over national duty, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decides to enter into a new contract with the players.

    BCB Enters new Contract

Kolkata Knight Riders snapped Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for INR 3.2 crores in the IPL 2021 auction. For which Shakib Al Hasan decided to skip the home Test series against Sri Lanka.

As per schedule, Sri Lanka will tour Bangladesh to play a couple of Test matches in April – a series that will likely clash with IPL 2021.

“We will enter into a new contract with the players. It will be mentioned clearly who wants to play which format. They have to inform us. If they have any other engagements, they have to be clear about their availability. It is very open.

“Previously, it depended on individuals but now we are confirming it in writing so that nobody can say that they haven’t been allowed or we kept them forcefully.”

Nazmul was speaking after a meeting with his board members at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium here.

The BCB chief had said it didn’t make sense to stop Shakib from playing in the IPL after he had made his intention clear in a latter to the board recently.

“Couldn’t we have stopped Shakib from going (to the IPL)? He may have played but we don’t want that. We want only those to play, who really love the game. We have tried to keep him interested. When Shakib had declined to play tests three years ago, we made him the captain.

“I didn’t like the timing of it. He was among the players I expected would take charge of the difficult situation. It was disappointing,” he added.

Shakib will return to the IPL after his one-year ban from all forms of cricket after Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 3.2 crore during the recent players’ auction.

The 33-year-old has previously played for the Knight Riders between 2011 and 2017 and was a key member of their title-winning sides in 2012 and 2014.

Sarandeep Singh Claims that Dhoni May played T20 WC if THIS Doesn’t happened

Former India selector Sarandeep Singh has now revealed that the selection committee was of the opinion that MS Dhoni would have definitely been part of the team had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic. Singh also added that Dhoni was still fit, and there was no reason for him not to play.

Unfortunately, the former captain’s last action in international cricket remains the fateful run-out in the 2019 World Cup semifinal.

The former Indian skipper is a man who does not reveal much to the world, but when he makes his move, it has a lasting impact. In an announcement that stunned the cricketing world and his millions of fans as well, Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on 15th August 2020, sending shockwaves in the cricketing fraternity.

    Sarandeep Singh on Dhoni retirement

Sarandeep Singh was reportedly quoted as saying, “Definitely, he would have played (had COVID-19 not interrupted). We were also thinking that he should have definitely played the World T20. He was fit.

There was no reason for him to not play. We always see the fitness of the players first to see how long they can play. And Mahi was the fittest. He never took a break from practice. Even in optional practice, Mahi was there. And you see it never happened that he missed a game because of injury. That’s why he got so much respect from everyone.”

“We always felt that a player who played so much for India and won so many trophies – there’s not a single trophy he hasn’t won – deserved that chance. It was my personal opinion and opinion of everyone in the selection committee that MS Dhoni should have played the World T20,” the former selector added. Dhoni will be seen in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Michael Clarke Questions Aaron Finch Snub at IPL 2021 Auction

Michael Clarke slammed Australian limited over skipper Aaron Finch over his remarks on IPL 2021 snub.

    Michael Clarke slams Aaron Finch

But despite leading the Australian national team in the shortest format, Finch found no takers in the IPL Auction 2021. The right-handed batsman was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore in January, and earlier this week, when his name came up at the auction, no franchise made a bid for him.

On Sunday, Aaron Finch had told Cricket.com.au that his axing didn’t come as a surprise.

“It’s a wonderful competition to be a part of but it wasn’t unexpected that I wasn’t picked up, to be honest. “I’d prefer to be playing cricket, but a little bit of time at home won’t be the worst thing.”

Michael Clarke, who had earlier said that Finch was “definitely” one of the best top-order batsmen in the world, reiterated that he was shocked to see the gun batsman going unsold at the Chennai auction.

A puzzled Clarke added that as the Australian captain in the T20I captain, Finch should feel that he is wanted by all the franchises in the IPL.

“Well, like I said the other day, no IPL franchise; I can’t believe he come out and said, ‘oh yeah, I expected this to be the case,” Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast.

“You’re the Australian captain in that format, you should be expecting that every team wants you.

“And you’re allowed to have a bad series, like, even his BBL, if he’s got that attitude where he believes he’s as good as a player as he is, then he says, ‘you know what, I’ve had a bad BBL but all that means is with every less score I’m due for a big one, I’m due for a big one, I’m due for a big one.’ Not, ‘I expected no-one to pick me up.’

    “I don’t get that.”

Finch, who averaged just 13.76 in 13 Big Bash 2021-21 innings, was dismissed for 1 in the first T20I versus New Zealand on Monday.

Meanwhile, apart from Finch, other Australian stars who remained unsold includ Alex Carey, Shaun Marsh, Marnus Labuschagne, Jason Behrendorff, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Hilton Cartwright, James Faulkner, Ben McDermott, Sean Abott, Joel Paris, Jack Wildermuth, Brendan Doggett, Mark Steketee, Ben Dwarshuis, Chris Green, Wes Agar, Josh Inglis, Nathan Ellis, Tanveer Sangha, Max Bryant, Jake Weatherald, Matt Kelly, Tim David, Aaron Hardie, and Nathan McAndrew.

Sarandeep Singh Breaks Silence on How Virat Kohli Behave during Team Meeting

Former India selector Sarandeep Singh heaped praise on captain Virat Kohli for being a good listener and lauded his down-to-earth nature in a recent interview.

    Sarandeep Singh praises Virat Kohli

“Whenever Virat comes, team meetings used to go on for 1, 1.5 hours. Virat is a good listener. I don’t know what people think about him,” Sarandeep Singh told Sportskeeda.

“If you see him in the matches, he’s always charged up while batting and fielding. So it seems like he’s always hot and arrogant, and doesn’t listen to anyone. But no, he’s as down-to-earth as he seems aggressive on the field. In selection meetings, he was so polite. He always used to listen to everyone and then finally come to a decision,” he added.

“No Servants in Virat Kohli’s House”

There is another interesting detail that has been revealed by former selector Sarandeep Singh. The former right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler, who played 3 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, has said that Virat likes to serve food to guests himself as there are no servants at his house.

    Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma

“At his home, there are no servants. He and his wife will serve food to everyone. What else do you want? Virat always sits with you, chats with you, and goes out for dinner with you. All the other players have so much respect for him. He’s very down-to-earth and strong-willed,” he further said.

“On the field, he needs to be that way because he’s the captain. He’s the one who’ll handle the pressure on the ground and make decisions in the heat of the moment,” he signed off.

Kohli is currently leading India in the four-match Test series against England. The third Test will be played under lights with pink balls from February 23 at the Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad.

As for the Test series between India and England, the Kohli-led side is on 1-1 level with the visitors and the two teams will square off in a Day/Night Test starting from Wednesday.

Ben Stokes Feels He will Never Reach his Peak as a Cricketer

    Ben Stokes
    Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes doubts he will never peak as a cricketer but the talismanic England all-rounder believes ridding himself of the ‘that’s the way I play’ mantra has made him a more consistent batsman.

Stokes underlined his belligerence early into his career by setting new benchmarks for the fastest Test century at Lord’s and the quickest double ton by an English batsman, both landmarks coming before his 25th birthday.

There were low moments, too, as he occasionally flattered to deceive but he has averaged 47.79 in his most recent 20 Tests dating back to the start of 2019, which contrasts with an overall record of 37.54 after 69 matches.

During that period he memorably took just three runs from his first 73 deliveries against Australia before sparking into life with an unbeaten 135 that propelled England to an against-all-odds Ashes win at Headingley 18 months ago.

    Ben Stokes praises Joe Root

Stokes believes his modified mindset owes much to Test captain Joe Root, who is rated by his deputy as England’s best-ever batsman, while the 29-year-old insists he will continue looking for ways to improve.

    Ben Stokes and Joe Root
    Ben Stokes and Joe Root

‘I don’t think of hitting a peak,’ he said in a wide-ranging interview with talkSPORT. ‘No one is ever the finished article. There’s always room for improvement.

‘I look at Rooty, he’s one of the best players in the world. I’m going to say it now, he is England’s greatest batsman to play the game. But he’s still looking at ways to improve as a player and a captain.

‘It’s amazing to watch someone with his skill doing that. Even as a senior player, I look up to how he’s always trying to improve. That’s what I do, I always try and evolve and try to work things out to become a better player.

‘I got rid of the ‘this is how I play’ excuse massively. In terms of always looking to be aggressive or attacking. When I realised that was just an excuse for when failures happen, I was never going to learn from it.

‘Once I got rid of that, I had more understanding of the game situation and when I need to change the way I play in terms of sometimes being a little bit more defensive because, in the long term, that could be better for the team.’

Stokes is in India after he and Jofra Archer sat out the 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka last month, with England prioritising rest and rotation for their all-formats stars in what is scheduled to be a hectic year.

Former England captains Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen are among those to have questioned the policy but Stokes believes it is a sound one, as he said: ‘It’s very, very tough doing what we do at the moment.

    Ben Stokes
    Ben Stokes

‘When you haven’t lived it, you don’t realise what it can do to people. People find it easier to open up on the mental side. It’s not seen as a weakness as it was a few years ago. We’ll see the benefits.’

Despite winning the Ashes and the 50-over World Cup in an eventful career, Stokes thinks he still has plenty to achieve and would cherish Test series wins in India and Australia.

England and Virat Kohli‘s side are currently deadlocked at 1-1 ahead of the third Test, a pink-ball affair which gets underway on Wednesday, and Stokes believes the current group are more than capable of winning the series.

‘If you can retire having won the Ashes at home, the Ashes away, an ICC event – and this tour, for me, is one of those. Beating India in India, it would be amazing to say I’ve been able to accomplish all those things,’ he added.

‘I still need to tick off another two. We have a great chance to do that over the next couple of weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the group we take to Australia (for the Ashes later this year).’

S Sreesanth Bags his First Five Wicket Haul in List A cricket After 15 years

S Sreesanth, turning out for Kerala in the on-going Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-overs tournament, picked up his first five-wicket match haul in List A format after a long gap of 15 years.

S Sreesanth shines in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Sreesanth first removes UP opener Abhishek Goswami for 54 (63 balls, 2×6, 4×4) and added then got rid of Akshdeep Nath for 68 (60 balls, 9×4).

His fifer also included the wicket of India pacer and UP skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar. As far as this championship is concerned, Sreesanth has seven wickets from only two matches.

He bagged 2/41 against Odisha, as Kerala went on to win that match by 34 runs. Before this match, Sreesanth had 113 wickets in 87 List A games.

The pacer had also registered for the IPL auction 2021 but did not make the cut for any team. “It was honestly disappointing not to make the cut but I am really alright. If I can wait 8 years to make a comeback into cricket, I can wait for some more time. No more sympathies are needed because guys I am absolutely happy,” Sreesanth had said.

    Sreesanth’s reminder to IPL franchises

Sreesanth’s heroics have come just a couple of weeks after he was snubbed by the IPL franchises. The former India pacer was among 1114 cricketers who had registered for the IPL 2021 auction but he wasn’t shortlisted as any of the franchises asked for his name to be included for the auction.

Hence, his name wasn’t announced during the one-day event. Despite that, Sreesanth can make his IPL come back if any of the franchises calls him to replace an injured player.

Sreesanth, who made his comeback to Indian cricket in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, will hope to continue his form to draw the attention of the franchises.

    The senior pacer has 211 first-class, 118 List A, and 52 T20 scalps. Sreesanth has played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20Is.

India vs England: BCCI asks Shikhar Dhawan to Report on March 1

    Shikhar Dhawan

A senior DDCA official revealed that opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has to report to Ahmedabad alongside the other selected players by the 1st of March.

They demand that all the limited-overs players play a couple of matches to stay in touch before entering another bio-secure bubble with all the COVID-19 protocols in place.

Shikhar Dhawan needs to Report on March 1

“Shikhar is supposed to report in Ahmedabad along with others on March 1. As far as we know, all the white ball specialists have been asked to play 2 to 3 games to be in touch as they will again enter a new bubble with all the COVID-19 protocols in place,” a senior DDCA official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

All the players arriving in Ahmedabad will be tested for COVID-19 and will be placed in a new bio-bubble ahead of the T20I series. There are quite a few new faces in the Indian side for the T20Is with as many as three debutants in the form of Suryakumar, Kishan, and Tewatia.

Rishabh Pant also returned to the side after shining in the red-ball cricket for India, while the selectors also decided to include Varun Chakravarthy. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be the captains and vice-captains.

Bhuvneshwar will also be making his comeback from injury after a long spell on the sidelines. Pant and Kishan have been selected as the two designated wicket-keeper batsmen in the side with Sanju Samson making way for the latter.

Manish Pandey, Samson, and Mayank Agarwal were some notable exclusions from the T20I squad while Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the five-match rubber, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja will continue to remain unavailable as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

The T20 series will be played in Ahmedabad between March 12 and 20 and will be followed by a three-match ODI series that will be played in Pune between March 23 and 28.

Sunil Gavaskar Claims Ashwin Will Not be Able to Make Comeback in India’s Limited-Overs Team

    sunil gavaskar
    sunil gavaskar

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar reckons it’s nearly impossible for India offspinner Ravichandran Ashwin to find a place in the limited-overs team considering the options they have at their disposal as of now. Ashwin continues to be a Test mainstay but hasn’t played an ODI or a T20I since 2017.

Not that Ashwin has a poor record in white-ball cricket – he has 150 wickets in 111 ODIs at an average of 32.91 while in T20Is, he has taken 52 wickets at 22.94. However, in limited-overs, India have preferred the likes of left-arm spinner Jadeja, legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal with Kuldeep Yadav to in the mix of things.

    Sunil Gavaskar on Ashwin

The role of the allrounder falls onto the shoulders of Hardik Pandya and Jadeja making it even more difficult for Ashwin to break into the setup.

“I somehow don’t think he will now make a comeback in the Indian limited-overs team because India have found in Hardik Pandya the all-rounder at No.7, there is Ravindra Jadeja and then they will have three seamers or maybe one spinner and two-seamers,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

    Ashwin
    Ashwin

“I don’t think he will fit into the squad at the moment and therefore, he will be a Test match player for the next half a dozen years at least,” he added.

Ashwin though continues to break records in Test cricket. With 17 wickets, he’s currently the leading wicket-taker of the ongoing India-England four-match Test series and is the fourth-highest run-getter with 159 runs that includes a match-winning century in the second match that helped his side draw level at one-all.

The third Test of the series will be played at the Motera Stadium of Ahmedabad which after the renovation has become the largest such venue in the world boasting a capacity of over 1,00,000. It will be a day-night contest, the first between India and England and the third for Virat Kohli’s men.

India defeated Bangladesh in 2018 as they embraced the pink-ball Test. Their second such match was against Australia last December in Adelaide when they lost by eight wickets.

Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who earned his maiden India call-up for the T20I series against England praises Rohit Sharma.

    Suryakumar Yadav praises Rohit Sharma

Suryakumar Yadav has been a key player for the Mumbai Indians since joining the Rohit Sharma-led franchise in 2018. Yadav passed the 400-run mark in both 2018 and 2019, he struck at a strike-rate of just over 130 in those years earning the reputation of an anchor.

Yadav’s role was to build the innings steadily, allowing Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya to up the scoring rate. But it changed in IPL 2020 as Yadav not only averaged 40.22 but also scored at an impressive strike rate of 155.36. He counterattacked in the powerplay and also shown an ability to accelerate in the death overs.

Speaking to ITS, Suryakumar Yadav revealed how Mumbai Indians management gave him the opportunity to bat higher up the order and express himself.

“I think their (Mumbai Indians) support has been immense. I still remember when I came back to MI from KKR in 2018… my role at KKR was completely different, I used to bat lower down the order and play the finisher’s role,” Suryakumar Yadav said.

    Suryakumar Yadav

“But at MI, the plan was crystal clear, they wanted me to bat higher up the order, they gave me that responsibility, they gave me that challenge to go out and express fearlessly. I started batting at No. 4, I also got an opportunity to open.

“I really enjoyed that role as well and later on, they just kept supporting me. The way they have pushed me and shown confidence in my ability has been great and very positive from their side. I have really enjoyed it in the last 3 years,” Suryakumar added.

“Talking about all the players, starting from the captain, he (Rohit) has shown a lot of faith in me. A lot of positive energy from his side and then there has been Hardik, Krunal and Kieron Pollard, they have been playing around me.

“I have really enjoyed spending time with them on and off the field. I have learned so many things. Hardik and Krunal, have already played for India. So I just followed them and saw what they do on off days and match days. There are a lot of small, small points that I grabbed from these players,” Suryakumar further said.
