Gambhir, Ashwin Throws View on the Creepy Tweet from Yuvraj Singh

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir backs Yuvraj Singh and has said that Ravichandran Ashwin doesn’t ask for spinning wickets and with tracks like those, the off-spinner has added pressure of delivering in the match.

    Yuvraj Singh’s Controversy tweet

Last week, Yuvraj Singh posted a tweet that generated a bit of controversy. The former India all-rounder expressed his disappointment with the pitch that was used for the third Test between India and England in Ahmedabad, a game that finished inside two days with the home team wrapping up a 10-wicket-win to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

    Gautam Gambhir Backs Yuvraj Singh

Gautam Gambhir added that wickets have been the same for everyone but it’s the DRS that can have helped former spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh get to 1,000 and 700 wickets respectively.

“From that point of view, I do agree with Yuvraj Singh, but from the point of view that had they played on these kinds of pitches, probably not. Because see, wickets have been the same for everyone.

Ashwin doesn’t ask for these kinds of wickets, it’s the team management that asks for it. And when you prepare such wickets, Ashwin is under more pressure to deliver,” Gambhir said on the ‘Runorder’ show on ESPNCricinfo.

when asked if he agrees with Yuvraj’s tweet which he posted post India vs England 3rd Test match.

“Yes, wickets are different today but DRS today plays a huge role. Had there been DRS when Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh was bowling, Kumble would have gone to 1000 wickets and Harbhajan would have got around 700 wickets because DRS plays a massive role especially in India where there are a lot of inside edges, or bat pads and stuff,” Gambhir added.

    Ashwin too backs Yuvraj Singh

While speaking to reporters ahead of the 4th Test, he said:

“The reason behind my tweets was not regarding anyone in particular. When I read Yuvi paa’s tweet, I did not get affected, I did not find that tweet trying to tell us something. It just felt like a plain tweet. For me, the state of mind I am in right now, I did not find it wrong.

“I know Yuvi paa for a long time, I have the utmost respect for him. Some people amongst us tend to buy what people sell, I do not know the reason why certain people try to sell certain things, but it is clear it’s just a perception of what happens,” he added.

As many as 30 wickets fell inside 2 days as India took a 2-1 lead in the 4-match Test series by defeating England by 10 wickets in the Ahmedabad Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

IPL 2021: RR Opens the Reason for Releasing Steve Smith

    Steve Smith

Rajasthan Royals(RR) revealed the reason behind releasing premier Australia batsman Steve Smith ahead of the IPL 2021 Auction.

Steve Smith leads the RR in the last two seasons where he scored 319 runs off playing 12 matches in the 2019 IPL and 311 runs off the 2020 IPL season. After he failed to fill the need of him as a super striker RR released Steve Amith ahead of IPL 2021 Auction.

At INR 2.2 crore, Delhi Capitals did a very smart business to acquire the services of Smith for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League which is expected to start from the second week of April.

Why RR release Steve Smith in IPL 2021 auction

Rajasthan Royals posted a video on their Twitter account, where they discuss the 2021 IPL Auction strategy which includes releasing smith, scouting youngsters, and auction simulations.

“The release of Steve Smith was purely based on the fact that we were looking at a new leader; an Indian leader who could take us well into the future,” Zubin Bharucha, the strategy, development and performance director of the Rajasthan Royals said in the video.

After releasing Smith, Rajasthan announced that young India wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson will lead the team in the upcoming season.

In the video, Rajasthan Royals COO claims that having Smith at 12.5 crores doesn’t quite make sense for the franchise.

“I think we’re going for a rebalancing of the side which you’ll see coming out of this auction, and so, having Steve there at 12.5 crores doesn’t quite make sense to the balance of our auction purse,” the Royals COO Jake Lush McCrum added.

Meanwhile, after doing some serious business in the IPL 2021 Auction, Rajasthan Royals parted ways with their head coach Andrew McDonald. Both parties mutually agreed “to move in different directions with regards to the leadership structure”.

Royals include former Zimbabwe cricketer Trevor Penney in the camp as the lead assistant coach for the upcoming season.

Rajasthan Royals(RR) final Squad for IPL 2021

Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya, KC Cariappa, Akash Singh, Kuldip Yadav, Liam Livingston, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Gopal, Robin Uthappa, Jaydev Unadkat, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Anuj Rawat, Kartik Tyagi, David Miller, Andrew Tye, Mahipal Lomror, Manan Vohra, Mayank Markande, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag.

Umpire Aleem Dar Celebrates as Karachi Kings lose Review for Challenging his Decision

Veteran Pakistan umpire Aleem Dar Celebrates after Karachi Kings lost their review by challenging his decision. Dar will miss few PSL matches due to international commitments.

Aleem Dar Celebrates in the ground

Umpire Aleem Dar, who was at the bowler’s end in the culminating over, didn’t agree for the LBW appeal by the Kings. However, they went ahead with a review upstairs but had to bite the dust as the replay clearly showed that there was a bat involved, hence the initial appeal didn’t stand ground.

As the third umpire’s decision showed ‘Not Out’, the veteran umpire couldn’t hide his excitement and marked it with a mini celebration on the field. A fan shared a clip of the umpire’s reaction on Twitter and it has been the talk of the town ever since.

Dar, a well-respected umpire in the international and domestic cricket circuits, has now left PSL to officiate international fixtures. He will return in the second round of the league.

Earlier in the match, the Karachi Kings were asked to bat first after they lost the toss. Sharjeel Khan’s blistering 105 off 59, skipper Babar Azam’s 62 from 59 balls and Dan Christian’s 12 from five deliveries propelled them to a record 196 run in total.

In the chase, the Imad Wasim-led Islamabad United rode on a good team effort as almost every batsman chipped in to secure a thrilling win. Their opener Alex Hales gave a good start by scoring 46 off 21 balls.

In the following overs, they lost two quick wickets but remained in the hunt as their rest of the batting line-up played their parts in the successful chase. In the end, they needed just one run in the final over and United completed the chase with a single.

The win gave Islamabad United their second consecutive win in the league, while Karachi Kings now have one win and a defeat from two matches. They will next lock horns with Multan Sultans, while Islamabad United will take on Peshawar Zalmi.

Suryakumar Yadav opened up on his selection to the Indian T20I squad, saying he’s looking forward to playing under Virat Kohli.

Suryakumar Yadav Opens on his T20I Debut

“I was very excited as I got to know (about the selection). I was sitting in the room, trying to watch a movie, and got a notification on the phone that I was picked in the Indian team for England T20Is. I started crying after seeing my name in the team. I called my parents, my wife and my sister. We had a video call and all of us started crying,” he told BCCI.tv.

“Along with me, they have also been trying to live this dream for a long time. It has been a very long journey and they are the ones who have stood by me throughout. It was really great to see them happy and have those tears of happiness.

“Everyone wants to play for India. But finally, my time has come.”

The Mumbai and Mumbai Indians batsman said he has always dreamt of playing under Kohli.

“Firstly, (I am) looking forward to spending some quality time with the team and soaking in the atmosphere when I reach Ahmedabad. I have always dreamt of playing under Virat Kohli for a long time and I am excited to go and learn a lot from Virat as quickly as I can so that I can be a better player,” he said.

“I have played against him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the way he reflects his energy on the field even after achieving so much for India is remarkable. I have seen him on the field keeping himself charged all the time. His want-to-win attitude is something to learn.

“Over the years, playing with the Mumbai Indians, I have got to learn and know so much about Virat from Hardik Pandya as well. Whenever we have been together, I have asked Hardik what Virat does differently during the practice sessions that he is the best on the ground.

“Hardik has also told me that Virat practices differently, the energy he has in the practice sessions be it batting or fielding is completely different and he is the same on the ground.

“So, these are some of the things that I want to learn from him which make him the best,” Yadav added.

Suryakumar also thanked his captain at Mumbai Rohit Sharma for being a big influence.

“I still remember the time when I was batting with Rohit Sharma during my Ranji Trophy debut. When I walked out to bat, there were a lot of butterflies in my stomach. He just came up to me and said, “Mate, just keep things very simple. You have worked very hard to reach here. You just have to go out and express yourself. Think about nothing. Just express yourself.”

Ban On Pakistan Cricketer Umar Akmal Reduced To 12 Month

    Umar Akmal

Pakistan’s attacking batsman, Umar Akmal will feel a sigh of relief as his ban from cricket has been reduced from 18 months – which was initially 3 years – to 12 months and he will soon return to cricket. But the court also hit Akmal with a hefty fine of 4.25 million rupees ($26,800) over his role in the incident.

    Umar Akmal Ban reduced

“The PCB once again urges and reminds all participants to abide by their duty and promptly report any approaches to the anti-corruption officers and help themselves as well as the anti-corruption unit’s effort to eliminate the anathema of fixing,” the PCB said in the statement.

PCB had banned Akmal from all forms of cricket last month after its disciplinary panel found him guilty of not reporting corrupt approaches ahead of the Pakistan Super League in 2020.

Pakistan cricket authorities hoping for a further reduction filed an additional appeal over the case to the CAS.

“It’s a big relief for Umar,” the cricketer’s brother Kamran told AFP. “He wants to play cricket and return to the field.”

The PCB said Umar would be eligible to compete again after completing a rehabilitation program.

Akmal, 29, is the younger brother of former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, who played 53 Tests, 58 T20s, 157 ODIs, and cousin of current captain Babar Azam.

Akmal, who promised a lot after making a hundred in New Zealand on his Test debut, failed to live up to the high expectations that came with some fine performances early in his career. Constant run-ins with the authorities also marred his stop-start career.

The batsman was also sent home after he failed a fitness test ahead of the 2017 Champions Trophy in England and has been hit with various fines over the years.

Akmal, who last played for Pakistan in October, has featured in 16 Tests, 121 ODIs, and 84 T20s, scoring 1,003, 3,194, and 1,690 runs respectively.

IPL 2021: Ish Sodhi Gets in as Team Liaison Officer for RR

    Ish Sodhi

Ish Sodhi, the New Zealand legspinner, will feature in IPL 2021 for Rajasthan Royals(RR) in a managerial role. After going unsold at the IPL 2021 auction, he has now been signed as the team liaison officer by the Rajasthan Royals, a franchise he played for in 2018 and 2019.

    Ish Sodhi gets in RR

In this new role, Sodhi will work closely with Kumar Sangakkara, the team’s new Director of Cricket, and Jake Lush McCrum, the chief operating officer, thereby contributing “both towards cricket and operations vertical”.

“The Royals are an innovative, dynamic franchise that plays an entertaining brand of cricket, and I am delighted to rejoin my IPL family to work across the board,” he said in a statement.

The role is slightly different from the one he was supposed to play in IPL 2020 – that of a spin consultant and operations executive. However, he couldn’t take up the role because the IPL’s change of schedule from the regular April-May window to mid-September clashed with New Zealand’s domestic season and the birth of his first child.

“Last year I expressed my interest in exploring the management side of the franchise, and the Royals management team was very supportive, offering me a role to enable me to begin my off-field journey,” he said. “I’m looking forward to supporting the coaches and the business operations of the team through which I’ll really develop my cricketing and management skills.”

In eight games across two seasons for the Royals, Sodhi picked up nine at an economy of 6.69. While he isn’t part of New Zealand’s Test plans now, he’s still on their radar for limited-overs cricket and is currently part of the squad for the five-match T20I series at home against Australia.

He’s also active in a few other T20 leagues, particularly in the CPL, where he currently represents St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Overall, Sodhi has 180 wickets in 166 T20 matches, with a best of 6 for 11 for the Adelaide Strikers against the Sydney Thunder in BBL 2017-18.

Pakistan Fans Blame India & Australia As PSL Umpire Refused To Cap

    Shahid Afridi

Pakistan fans blame BCCI and the Australia cricket committee for umpires’ refusal of holding Shahid Afridi’s cap in the PSL.

Pakistan Fans blames BCCI & Australia

“Dear @ICC wondering why the umpires are not allowed to hold bowlers cap even though they are in the same bubble as the players/management and even shake hands at the end of the game?” the all-rounder wrote while expressing dissent and surprise over the protocol.

In the pre-Covid-19 era, the umpires were completely fine with the players asking them to hold on to their caps while they would deliver an over. However, with the pandemic outbreak still very much a global threat, the ICC guidelines have prohibited them from doing so.

And while Afridi’s tweet to the governing body of international cricket is understandable, the comments made by his fans, blaming the BCCI and the Indian cricket team for something like this seems completely outrageous.

Ever since the Covid-19 guidelines were set in place, international players have been seen wearing more than one cap at a time while fielding, simply because the others belong to their teammates or the bowlers who were in the middle of their spell.

The most recent and arguably the most famous incident of this sort took place during the first T20I match between New Zealand and Australia at the Hagley Oval when Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson was spotted wearing three caps, one on top of another.

Ever since the 2021 season of the Pakistan Super League kicked off on February 20, all six franchises have played two matches each.

Afridi’s Multan Sultans played their first match against Shadab Khan’s Islamabad United and second against Wahab Riaz’s Peshawar Zalmi.

However, the Sultans have lost both the matches, albeit both were tough fights, and are currently sitting at the number five spot of the PSL points table ahead of Sarfaraz Ahmed’s Quetta Gladiators, thanks to the difference in their Net Run Rate.

Prithvi Shaw might not be part of the Indian cricket team but he is knocking on the doors of the selectors with his double century in the domestic circuit. On Thursday he took his performance a notch higher in his first outing as Mumbai captain.

Prithvi Shaw slams Double Century in Vijay Hazare Trophy

This was the first maiden List-A double hundred for Shaw, which he got in 142 balls. Shaw hammered 32 fours and five sixes during his onslaught. He also became the eighth Indian to score a List A double hundred. This was the fourth double hundred in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The youngster remained unbeaten on 227 off just 152 deliveries to slam the seventh highest List A score ever. He and Suryakumar Yadav (133 off 58 deliveries) took Mumbai to an imposing total of 457/4 in 50 overs against the hapless Puducherry bowlers.

This is the highest List A total scored by any team in India’s domestic circuit, eclipsing the record set by Jharkhand earlier in this season, when they slammed 422/9 against Madhya Pradesh. It is the fourth highest List A total overall.

Shaw has joined an elite list of Indian batsmen to have scored a List A double century or more, which include Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, KV Kaushal, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

    Mumbai vs Puducherry

In the round 3 of elite group D Mumabi faces Pondicherry. Where Mumbai were asked to bat first by Puducherry after winning the toss. Mumabi makes a massive target of 457 runs for 4 wickets loss at the end of the 50 overs.

With a mamoth target to chase Puducherry gets into the crease and failed to chase down the target. Puducherry were bagged while scoring 224 runs.

India vs England: Sanjay Manjrekar Opens on Controversial Umpiring Decisions

Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar throws view on controversial umpiring decisions on the 3rd Test of India vs England. The visiting England side has complained to the match referee about a couple of decisions that did not go their way.

First, it was when Stuart Broad found the outside edge of Shubman Gill’s bat, and Ben Stokes took the catch at slips. The umpire gave the soft signal as out, but the third umpire overturned the decision.

While the other one was when, England players appealed against Rohit Sharma, for a stumping chance, but third umpire, managed to give another controversial decision, without using different angles available.

Sanjay Manjrekar on Umpiring Decisions in India vs England Test

Former India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar commented on the issue and said in his tweet, “TV umpire was a bit too quick for my liking with that not out call considering that soft signal was out. But it was the right call. Enough evidence to overrule the on-field soft signal.”

“TV umpire may note that like the players for DRS, he does not have a timer on his decision, he could take his time.”

Meanwhile, R Ashwin is on the threshold of 400 wickets, and achieved another milestone, on day one of the third Test between India and England. The 34-year-old went past Zaheer Khan’s tally of 597 international wickets, to climb to the fourth spot in the list of most wickets for India.

Ashwin bagged three wickets in the first innings, and took his tally to 599 wickets, across formats. He is only behind former skipper Anil Kumble (953), spinner Harbhajan Singh (707), and Kapil Dev (687). The off-spinner is also on the brink of becoming the fourth Indian bowler to take 400 Test wickets.

Shahid Afridi Expressed Displeasure Over ICC for Umpires not Holding Bowlers’ cap

    Shahid Afridi
    Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi tweeted tagging the International Cricket Council (ICC) to express his displeasures about its new rule which tells the on-field umpires not to hold the bowler’s cap, sweater or sunglasses while bowling due to Covid-19 restrictions.

    Shahid Afridi slams ICC

“Dear @ICC wondering why the umpires are not allowed to hold the bowler’s cap even though they are  in the same bubble as the players/management and even shake hands at the end of the game?” Afridi posted on his Twitter account.

Afridi is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 for the Multan Sultans. As the T20 tournament is under ICC’s rules and regulations, he might have faced the same issue in any of the matches.

As for his team, the Multan Sultans’ have had a poor start to the PSL season as they lost both their first two matches. Afridi bowled a superb spell in the first match, picking up two wickets for just 24 runs in his four overs.

Some other players in the PSL have also expressed surprise over the ICC rule which is being enforced because of the pandemic.

The bowler handing over his cap, sweater, or sunglasses to the on-field umpire was a norm cricket but ICC came up with the new guidelines after cricket resumed after a long gap due to the global pandemic, leaving bowlers with no choice but to hand over their caps to the fielders.

“Players and umpires should maintain social distancing on the cricket field and that includes no handing over of player items (cap, towels, sunglasses, jumpers) to the umpire or teammates,” reads the ICC playing guidelines.
