Ross Taylor has been ruled out of the first match of the New Zealand vs Bangladesh ODI series due to “a small tear in his left hamstring“.

Ross Taylor ruled out of 1st ODI vs Bangladesh

The first match of New Zealand vs Bangladesh is scheduled to be held on Saturday in Dunedin. Taylor sustained the injury while fielding on the final day of the Central Stag’s Plunket Shield victory over the Wellington Firebirds on Sunday at McLean Park in Napier.

The three-match ODI series is also part of the World Cup Super League. Bangladesh’s task will be cut out as they are yet to win an away ODI against New Zealand.

Gary Stead on Ross Taylor’s injury

Blackcaps coach Gary Stead said the injury was precautionary and was hopeful Taylor would be available for the second two on Tuesday at Hagley Oval.

“It’s a shame for Ross to have this happen on the eve of a series. t’s a small tear, and we’re hopeful after some rest and rehabilitation, we can get him fit for the second game in Christchurch. It’s an exciting time for Mark, who’s come in and performed well recently for the T20 side, so we have full confidence he can do the job if called upon,” the coach said while providing an update on the 36-year-old’s situation.

His absence means New Zealand will be without two of their most senior batters for the opening match of their ICC World Cup Super League campaign, with captain Kane Williamson sitting out the Bangladesh series with an elbow injury.

He also said that Ross Taylor’s cover in the New Zealand team for the first ODI, Mark Chapman will be able to do a good job for the Black Caps, if he gets a chance to play.

Taylor is one of the most capped New Zealand played in ODI cricket with 232 games under his kitty. He has 8574 runs with 21 centuries and 51 half-centuries at an average of 48.44 and the best score of 181*.

He has hit 146 sixes and 711 fours in his career thus far and is the only player in international cricket to appear in more than 100 Tests, 100 ODIs, and 100 T20Is.

India vs England: Remaining Matches Scheduled to Play Behind Closed Doors

Indian Skipper Virat Kohli comforts England player post the match

The remaining two T20Is of India and England in Ahmedabad will be played behind closed doors “because of the increasing number of Corona cases”.

The BCCI and the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) settled on the choice on Monday after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation requested the conclusion of shops, shopping centers, eateries, and salons after 10 pm in eight wards of the city to control the spread of Covid-19.

India vs England T20I will play behind closed doors

The GCA will refund the spectators who had bought tickets for the games. Alongside the T20Is, the three ODIs planned for March 23, 26, and 28 in Pune will likewise be played behind closed doors according to the guidelines of the Maharashtra government.

“Due to rising in the number of Corona cases, we at GCA have decided in consultation with BCCI, the matches will be played (behind) closed doors and not allow the spectators in the ground during T20 internationals to be played between India and England at Ahmedabad,” GCA vice-president Dhanraj Nathwani said in a press release.

“We will form the policy for the refund of money to the spectators, who have already purchased the tickets for these three T20s. Those who have received complimentary tickets are requested not to visit the stadium.”

The BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media release: “The decision was arrived at following detailed discussions with the state and local health authorities. The BCCI will continue to comply with all the regulations put in place to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus and will always put the health and safety of its fans and stakeholders at the top.”

The ground has a capacity of close to 130,000 and the GCA allowed 50% crowd in the first two games. Where first two games saw crowds of 67,200 and 66,352 respectively.

“Aside from meaning there will be considerably less noise in the stadium it doesn’t materially affect us as we remain in our bubble and even when crowds were in attendance we never came into contact with any of them, and the ball was sanitized whenever it was hit into the stands,” an ECB spokesperson said.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will also be hosting eight league games of the IPL from April 26 to May 8 in addition to the four playoff matches from May 25 to 30.

The IPL will be played behind closed doors “to begin with”, the BCCI had said while announcing the schedule.

Sachin Tendulkar knocks 65 runs off 42 deliveries in the semifinals against West Indies team

India Legends skipper Sachin Tendulkar has been in sublime form in the ongoing Road Safety World Series matches. Tendulkar’s 65 off 42 balls not only lifted India Legends into the final but also ensured that cricket fans were treated to some sublime strokeplay from the Little Master.

Sachin Shines in Road Safety World Series

During the first semi-final against West Indies Legends in Raipur, Tendulkar broke the shackles by hitting WI Legends pacer Tino Best for a six on the leg-side. It all happened on the fourth delivery of the eighth over when Tendulkar hooked a short delivery from Best over the deep square region for a glorious six.

With one of Tendulkar’s many career highlights being the hooked six off former England pacer Andrew Caddick during the 2003 ICC World Cup, his shot against Best reminded one and all of his prime.

Opening the batting with Virender Sehwag (35), Tendulkar ended a brief boundary-less period with the shot. While India Legends posted 55/0 in the first five overs, Sehwag’s dismissal put a halt to the run-scoring process at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.

Tendulkar’s 42-ball knock featured three sixes and six fours. The India Legends skipper, who followed his shot with another boundary in the next over, soon witnessed his non-striker in Mohammed Kaif also among the runs as the right-hand batsman Dwayne Smith for two sixes and a four in the 11th over.

It is worth mentioning that Kaif has been included in the Indian Playing XI for this match in place of the injured Subramaniam Badrinath.

Once Tendulkar was dismissed for his second successive fifty in the tournament, former India batsmen Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan joined the party. Yuvraj smashed four sixes in one over of Mahendra Nagamotoo en route to scoring 49 not out off 20 balls with six sixes while Yusuf Pathan smashed three sixes in his 37 off 20 balls.

India Legends managed to keep West Indies Legends at bay to win the first semifinal by 12 runs and book their place in the final.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani on Tuesday was confident that Pakistan will host the Asia Cup in 2023 and hoped that the Indian cricket team will also participate in it.

PCB Chairman on Asia Cup 2023

According to India Today, PCB chairperson Ehsan Mani conveyed to the PSL franchises that the governing body isn’t in favor of taking part in the Asia Cup this year.

The report further revealed Mani met with the PSL franchise owners in a virtual meeting recently. During the session, he briefed his intentions of conducting the remaining 20 PSL matches in June.

“Pakistan has to host the Asia Cup in 2023,” Mani told GeoSuper in an interview.

“India’s participation in the tournament will be a big breakthrough for Pakistan cricket. I hope that the political situation would improve by then.”

The PCB chief added that due to some recent developments, the relationship between the two countries has started to improve. However, Mani further said that the Asia Cup 2021 is unlikely to be held as Pakistan doesn’t have the time for it due to PSL 6 matches and India will be playing the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand with a tour of England immediately scheduled after that.

    New Zealand
    New Zealand

“There was a small window in June in which we are going to play the rest of the Pakistan Super League matches,” he said.

“The Indian team will play the final of the Test Championship against New Zealand. They have to go to England two weeks ago and stay in quarantine so the Indian team is also busy.”

Mani said he hasn’t officially received any information on the reports of India sending its ‘B’ team for the Asia Cup but added that there is “no question” of having an Asia Cup this year and that Sri Lanka will host the event in 2022 instead.

The PCB chairman said that it is crucial for all the teams to participate in the Asia Cup so that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) earns reasonably well during tough times while adding that proceeds from the tournament will also help the associate countries to promote cricket there.

Gautam Gambhir Slams Virat Kohli for Dropping Suryakumar Yadav

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir slams Virat Kohli for dropping Suryakumar Yadav in the 3rd T20I against England. India loses the 3rd T20I against England by 8 wickets where the visitors lead the series by 1-2 of the 5 matches T20I series.

Gambhir Slams Kohli for Dropping Suryakumar Yadav

After losing the game India faces much criticism as usual but dropping Suryakumar Yadav is the highlighted one. Particularly former cricketer Gautam Gambhir suggests Virat Kohli to give 3-4 chances to a player before dropping him from the squad.

“It amazes me, seven months before the World Cup he starts preparing for World Cup, and probably after the World Cup he will start preparing for the next World Cup. It really doesn`t matter, the kind of form you are in matters,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Gambhir was as saying.

“Imagine if there is an injury issue, what have you seen of Suryakumar Yadav, what have you seen of Suryakumar Yadav in international cricket. I hope nobody gets injured but if there is an injury case and somebody needs to bat at number 4 and number 5,” he further said.

    Virat Kohli

“For example, there has to be a replacement for Shreyas Iyer, who are you going to go for. So at least look at someone whom you have got into the setup. Probably give him that opportunity in three or four games and see where he stands,” Gambhir added.

The former opener further said that India create their own problems by juggling the playing XI a lot while adding that dropping players constantly will only increase their problems.

“We create a problem for our own self because we juggle a lot. In every game, there is some change or the other. Look at what England has done in this third T20I, they have not changed their batting order. So if you create problems for yourself, you would keep talking about problems of plenty,” said Gambhir.

    Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli

“India will never be short of talent, there will always be players coming through because we have got such a great structure, we have got such a great franchise cricket a tournament like IPL. But when you keep juggling players, keep dropping players you will create problems for yourself,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli played a blistering knock of unbeaten 77 to help India reach 156/6 in 20 overs. However, Jos Buttler’s masterclass helped England chase the target with eight wickets in hands with the England gloveman remaining unbeaten on 83 and Jonny Bairstow on 40.

Both India and England will meet in the fourth T20I on Thursday which will be played at the same venue.

IPL 2021: CSK Fielding Coach Rajiv Kumar Praises MS Dhoni

CSK fielding coach Rajiv Kumar shed light on the preparations, especially of the 40-year-old CSK captain MS Dhoni and shared how the captain is shaping up for the upcoming IPL 2021.

    Rajiv Kumar praises MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise to organize a camp for its players ahead of the IPL 2021 season, as players and some support staff gathered at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, on March 9 to kick start their preparations.

Kumar shared some insights on Dhoni’s first week at the nets in the First Episode of AnbuDen Diaries, which is CSK’s video series on social media.

“You know how smart MS Dhoni is. He understands his body, he understands his game. Not too many 40-year-old men assess the ball that clearly, and his determination is great to see. Every session he is coming with a certain plan, and he is working on it. We are just trying to figure out how to get the best out of him,” said the CSK fielding coach.

The video also featured another star batsman from the franchise over the years – Ambati Rayudu. The 35-year old highlighted the challenges of going back to training after a long break.

“It’s always hard to start after a break because, after Mushtaq Ali, I’ve not played much cricket. It’s been about a month and a half without cricket, so it takes about 6-7 sessions to get back into that rhythm. Also, to understand where I need to be. We all understand where we need to be, but where we are right now is the most important realisation. It is about knowing where my game is at the moment,” Rayudu said.

CSK start their 2021 campaign against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on the 10th of April. They lost 8 of their 14 matches in UAE in the previous edition and finished seventh on the points table. Dhoni himself had a nightmare of a tournament with the bat aggregating just 200 runs in 12 innings at a poor strike rate of 116.27.

The franchise is currently undergoing training at a camp at the MA Chidambaram Stadium where the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad and the captain himself are harnessing their skills and getting match-fit for the big tournament.

England Skipper Michael Vaughan Predicts the 2021 T20 WC Winner

Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckons the upcoming T20 WC in India will be won by the team which wins the toss after yet another match ended with the chasing side coming out on top in Ahmedabad.

    Michael Vaughan on T20 WC

“So it looks like the T20 World Cup in India could be won by the best Tosser,” Vaughan joked in a tweet.

In the third T20I on Tuesday, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow guided England to an eight-wicket victory. Buttler and Bairstow remained unbeaten on 83 and 40 respectively.

Earlier, Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 77 runs off just 46 balls had helped India post 156/6 in the allotted 20 overs. Down and out going into the last five overs of the innings, Kohli led from the front in all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s company as the duo added 69 runs from 30 balls to take the hosts’ total past the 150-run mark.

Hardik had joined Kohli with the score on 86/5 in 14.3 overs and what followed was nothing short of a master-class on power-hitting. Interestingly, it was Hardik who played second-fiddle in their 70-run partnership off just 33 balls as Kohli went on a hitting spree. This was India’s highest sixth-wicket partnership in T20Is.

Mark Wood rattled the Indian batters as he dismissed the top-order in no time and the hosts were left reeling inside the first six overs.

With the win in the third T20I, England gained a 2-1 lead in the series. Both teams will now meet in the fourth T20I on Thursday.

India captain Virat Kohli however, refused to blame the toss for the defeat and instead pointed out how his team lacked intensity in the match.

“If you lose the toss, embrace what’s been asked of you as a team. The England bowlers were absolutely brilliant with the new ball. In the first six overs, they hardly gave us anything and made our lives very difficult.

“We tried to come back as well as we could but I don’t think our body language in the second half was acceptable in the field. Defending 160, you need intensity and energy and that was lacking tonight,” Kohli said after the match.

Ahmedabad hosts all five matches with the fourth Twenty20 International scheduled on Thursday. The last three matches are being played behind closed doors following a rise in COVID-19 cases in the state of Gujarat.

Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis was not included in Cricket South Africa’s(CSA) national contract for cricketers for the 2021-22 season.

Faf du Plessis misses CSA Contract

As per the release, CSA have increased the women team members from 14 to 15 players, while it remains 16 among men and one spot open to ensure players have the opportunity to qualify through their respective performance.

“It is a matter of great pride that CSA has increased the number of women’s contracts from 14 to 15 for the very first time,” CSA Acting Chief Executive, Mr. Pholetsi Moseki, commented.

“We are confident that the number of selected players for both the men’s and women’s teams is sufficient to maintain them across the formats in which they participate. We are about to enter into a very import cricket season with ICC World Cup events for both the men’s and the women’s teams and we are confident that we have the correct personnel and necessary depth within the system to produce teams that will challenge the best in the world in the coming 12 months.”

“On behalf of CSA, I would like to congratulate Lara Goodall and Heinrich Klaasen on their newly awarded contracts. Their performances on the field of play as well as the way they have carried themselves off the field has done the talking for them and we are pleased to reward the hard work that they have put in,” Mr. Moseki concluded.

Faf du Plessis will feature in the upcoming IPL 2021 next month, preparations for which are underway at a training camp in Chennai’s Cheapauk Stadium. MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings will play their opening match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10.

UAE Cricketers Mohammad Naveed & Shaiman Anwar Banned By ICC

Mohammad Naveed, Shaiman Anwar get eight-year ban for fixing
Mohammad Naveed & Shaiman Anwar - UAE Cricket players

Mohammad Naveed and Shaiman Anwar were banned from all cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for eight years for breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. ICC had found guilty of offences relating to attempted match-fixing during the 2019 T20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

Mohammad Naveed & Shaiman Anwar banned

The bans have been backdated to October 16, 2019, when they were provisionally suspended.

Following a hearing and presentation of written and oral arguments, the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal found the two senior UAE players guilty of:

    • Article 2.1.1 – for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match or matches at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.
    • Article 2.4.4 – for failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019.

Additionally, Naveed, the former UAE captain, was also found guilty of breaching two counts of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code for Participants of the T10 League 2019:

    • Article 2.1.1 – for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match or matches at the T10 League 2019.
    • Article 2.4.4 – for failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code at the T10 League 2019.

“Mohammad Naveed and Shaiman Anwar represented their adopted country, the UAE at the highest level in cricket. Naveed was the captain and leading wicket-taker. Anwar was the opening bat. Both had long international careers and were well versed in the threat from match-fixers,” Alex Marshall, the general manager of the ICC’s integrity unit, said in a statement. “That they both chose to engage with this corrupt activity was a cynical betrayal of their positions, their teammates, and all supporters of UAE cricket.

“I am pleased that the independent Tribunal has imposed significant bans from all forms of cricket and this should serve as a warning to any cricketer who considers taking the wrong path.”

In a statement released shortly after the ICC verdict became public, the ECB acknowledged the work done by the authorities, and reiterated that it remained “firm in its stance denouncing any activities of corruption and those undertaken by the players in this anti-corruption case”.

IND vs ENG: Ishan Kishan Recalls his Maiden Half-Century Moment

Ishan Kishan had a short post match interview with chahal

Indian young cricketer Ishan Kishan claims that he was not aware of his maiden half-century while he was batting. He also revealed that it was skipper Virat Kohli who remains him of this notable record.

Ishan Kishan on his maiden half-century

Speaking to Yuzvendra Chahal on his popular Chahal TV segment, Kishan was quizzed as to why there was a slight delay in raising his bat to the crowds seated at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

“Jab fifty ho gayi aap dekhne mein aaya tha apne do-teen second bat nahi uthaya. Aapko pata nahi tha aapki fifty ho gayi hai? Thoda nervous ho gaye the? (When you reached fifty, we saw a slight delay when you raised the bat. Did you not know you had scored a half-century? Were you nervous?),” Chahal asked Kishan post-victory that levelled India 1-1 in the ongoing T20I series against England.

Kishan, in his response, said that he wasn’t nervous but he wasn’t aware that he had reached the 50-run mark. He added that he wasn’t the one who went big on celebrations after he reached the milestones. It was only after his skipper Virat Kohli called out to him that he knew he had indeed smacked a fifty on his debut for India.

“Virat bhai ki peeche se awaaz aati hai ‘Oye, chaaro taraf ghoom ke bat dikha. Sab ko bat dikha, pehla match hai tera’ (Virat said show your bat to the crowds all around the park. Show your bat, it’s your first match),” Kishan revealed.

Meanwhile, half-centuries from debutant Ishan Kishan and captain Virat Kohli that followed a tremendous bowling performance helped India level the series 1-1 with a seven-wicket win over England in the second T20I at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Chasing 165, Kishan made an attacking 56 off 32 with five fours and four sixes to set up the chase. Rishabh Pant then took over with a 13-ball 26 cameo to continue the momentum. Through it all, captain Kohli did what he does best – anchoring the innings before finishing with a flourish to end unbeaten on 73 off 49 as India finished in 17.5 overs.

In the 2nd T20I against England skipper, Virat Kohli proves his worth by scoring an impressive 73* from 49 deliveries. With the support of Ishan Kishan‘s maiden fifty India clitch victory in the 2nd T20I by beating England by 7 wickets.

“I had to shift the focus back to the basics of the game. Probably thinking of too many variables from the outside. I always take pride in the fact that I do the job for the team, so happy I did that than that I got 70 odd,” he said at the post-match presentation.

“The management spoke to me about things. Anushka is here so she also keeps speaking to me about things.

“I had a special chat with AB de Villiers before the game. He told me just watch the ball. That’s exactly what I did.”

Kohli was full of praise for the likes of Washington Sundar, Ishan Kishan, and Hardik Pandya.

“Quite a good game for us, we ticked all boxes we wanted to. To give only 34 in the last 5, it was very smart from our bowlers. Special mention to Washi, he bowled to only one left-hander and used the big boundary well to the right-handers. Hardik and Shardul bowled well,” he said.

“We knew that there was a little bit of dew on the wicket and the ball would come on a little better.

    Virat Kohli thanks Ishan Kishan

“Special mention to Ishan. I tried to do what I can but he changed the game completely. He took the game away from the opposition totally. Quality innings on debut.

“When you play in the IPL with such dominance as he has against quality bowlers, we’ve seen him hit international fast bowlers for big sixes. He’s a fearless character, should continue to back his instinct. We had a conversation before the game. He took his chances but it was calculated, wasn’t reckless. That’s what you want to see from youngsters. Today that counter-attacking innings of his and our partnership was something the team needed.

“He (Hardik) has worked really hard on his fitness and in the next few months, he is gonna be a vital part of this team moving forward in all three formats. He plays for the team all the time and those kinds of players are priceless. They were always in the game and you gotta be really precise in this format which is what we did today.”
