Shakib Al Hasan May not Play in IPL 2021, BCB’s Akram Khan Claims

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricket operations chairman, Akram Khan, has said that the board will reconsider the NOC given to former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan.

Akram Khan slams Shakib Al Hasan

Khan lashed out at star-all rounder after his comments on the board misinterpreting his letter surfaced on Sunday. The NOC given to Shakib allows him to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League.

Shakib Al Hasan will be missing out on Test Series against Sri Lanka to play in the cash-rich T20 league to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“What does it imply? If someone is saying that I don’t want to tour Sri Lanka, where we have two Tests, to prepare for the World Cup then what does it actually mean?” Akram Khan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“I heard that he said that I didn’t read his letter. Perhaps I misunderstood his letter. He wants to play Tests, from what he has said. In the next couple of days we will discuss about his NOC. If he has an interest, he will play Tests in Sri Lanka,” Akram noted.

    Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan has been roped by KKR for Rs. 3.20 Cr in IPL 2021 Auction

According to Shakib Al Hasan, his letter to the board was been misinterpreted by BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan.

“Continuously people are talking about this Test (skipping the series against Sri Lanka). The people who are saying that I will no longer play the Test or don’t want to play the Test haven’t read my letter properly and that is it,” Shakib was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“I did not mention anywhere in my letter that I do not want to play Tests. I mentioned in my letter that I want to play in the IPL to prepare myself properly for World Cup (T20 World Cup) but despite that Akram Bhai (BCB cricket operation chairman) has repeatedly said that I do not want to play Tests,” he said.

“Maybe he also said this in an interview yesterday. I guess he didn’t really read my letter properly. And whatever decisions they have taken, I believe that they have taken it after discussing among themselves,” he said.

Shakib will be seen playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in this year’s IPL after he was bought by the franchise for Rs 3.2 crore in the IPL 2021 auction held in February.

IND vs ENG: Gautam Gambhir Lauds Virat Kohli for his Captaincy Skills

Indian former cricketer Gautam Gambhir heap praises Indian skipper Virat Kohli for his captaincy in the 5th T20I of the India vs England series. The final and 5th T20I match serves as the decider for the T20I series as both teams win 2 matches each.

    Gambhir Lauds Virat Kohli

Gautam Gambhir has lauded skipper Virat Kohli for handling Bhuvneshwar Kumar to perfection while also heaping praise for giving the ball to the veteran seamer in the 13th over of the match – one which changed the course of the run-chase by England.

The veteran seamer, returning back to the team after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury, not only bowled some fantastic spells but also helped India win the final match to clinch the series 3-2.

    Bhuvneshwar Kumar
    Bhuvneshwar Kumar

“It was an unbelievable over. And good captaincy from Virat Kohli as well to bring him on in the 13th over. Because the run chase was absolutely on. He can just mix up his deliveries,” Gambhir told ESPNCricinfo.

“I remember one reverse sweep which Jos Buttler missed, it was just a quicker one, and a yorker, and one wide outside the off-stump. He used all the variations he had to the best of his abilities, and it was the turning point of the game,” Gambhir added.

Gambhir explains the reason for Bhuvneshwar’s Success

The former India batsman further explained why Bhuvneshwar is so successful with the new ball.

“I think it’s difficult to play swing bowlers as compared to seam bowlers in T20 cricket. Because with seam bowlers you can actually see the line and hit through the line. But if its swinging both ways, you would have to wait a little longer. And that is why Bhuvneshwar Kumar is so dangerous with the new ball. He can swing the ball both ways,” he said.

    Bhuvneshwar Kumar
    Bhuvneshwar Kumar

“Bhuvneshwar Kumar is very, very important to the team. There will always be times when we will discuss Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli, because of their flamboyance and stuff. But there are people like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who are very useful and always go under the radar. But these are just as important as these guys.

“Look at what he did today (in 5th T20I). It was unbelievable on a wicket where more than 400 runs were scored. When he started, everyone said he is just a new-ball bowler. But he has developed as a great death bowler as well. Imagine Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar bowling together in the death overs,” Gambhir pointed out.

“I always believe these guys who go under the radar should always be given appreciation for their contribution. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the great assets to Indian cricket. He can’t bowl at 145kph, but he has other abilities and he uses it to the best of his abilities,” he signed off.

After winning the Test and T20I series, India would be looking to sweep the tour by winning the three-match ODI series starting from March 23 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

IND vs ENG: Virat Kohli Address Press in Prior to ODI Series

India captain Virat Kohli addressed the press ahead of the three-match ODI series against England in Pune. Kohli spoke about the opening combination for the ODI format, his ambitions as an opener in T20Is, the concept of umpire’s call and soft signal, and so on.

Excerpts of Press Conference of Virat Kohli

    On opening combination

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will definitely start. When it comes to ODI, there are no doubts about that. They’ve been amazing over the past few years.”

On whether he’s sending out a message to selectors that he wants to open in T20Is

“The combination that plays on the field, the selectors don’t have any role just like management doesn’t have a say in the selection.

“As Rohit mentioned, it was a strategic move but we enjoyed batting together and we saw the effects of batting together. It’s not a guarantee that this is going to continue in the future. I am going to open in the IPL to keep all options. Now I want to understand my role as an opener as well so that I can open up a slot for someone like Surya. I should be able to play any kind of role that the team requires me to. We’ll take a call closer to the World Cup.”

On the tight schedule amid living in bio bubbles

“Scheduling is not in our control. Every international game is important and an opportunity to represent your team. Along the way, the scheduling and workload is something everyone has to be aware of. In this day and age, you just don’t know where restrictions will come in. Not just the physical side, but also the mental side as well – players have to be spoken to and consulted. Otherwise, it will be difficult.

“Then it will be a situation where whoever is stronger and able to go through plays a lot more matches, that’s not a good culture.”

On umpire’s call and soft signal

“According to me, umpire’s call is creating a lot of confusion. If the ball is clipping the stumps, the bails are going to fall. From a basic cricket sense, there should be no doubts about that. It doesn’t matter how much of the ball hits the stumps.

“One more factor to be considered is how the fielding side responds to a dismissal defines the soft signal as well. You’ve then got to question spirit of cricket. If things like that happened to the Indian team especially overseas, then you talk about the spirit of cricket. There should be no grey areas.”

IND vs ENG: Zaheer Khan Names Shardul Thakur as the Match Winner of T20I Series

Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan names Shardul Thakur as the player who has been responsible for India winning the series against England.

    Zaheer Khan praises Shardul Thakur

Zaheer Khan reckons the confidence of the Brisbane Test in Australia has completely changed the fast bowler’s outlook towards his game, saying Thakur currently is in a good headspace, due to which the results are pretty visible.

“Shardul Thakur, if you’ve noticed… there are so many big names in this Indian cricket team, so much of flamboyance. In all of that, this player is doing his job silently. He’s the silent hero of this series. His numbers are as good as any top player,” Zaheer said in a video on Cricbuzz.

Thakur picked up six wickets in the match, including three-wicket-hauls in the fourth and fifth T20I. In the fourth game, with Ben Stokes looking set to take the match away from India, Thakur dismissed him and England captain Eoin Morgan off successive deliveries to tilt the match in India’s favour.

Later, in the series decider on Saturday, Thakur dismissed the dangerous Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow in the same over to give India the advantage. Zaheer believes Thakur’s confidence is on a high and has backed India quickly to do well in any circumstances.

“Ever since the Australia series, I have seen a big change in his thinking and body language. Even if you look at him carefully in the field, his confidence is sparkling. When you are playing international cricket for long, it usually takes people time to understand their game and prolong his career, but Thakur is already at a stage where he knows what’s best for him and what he needs to avoid. Put him in any situation and he will thrive,” Zaheer explained.

During the series-deciding 5th T20I between India and England, a heated exchange between Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler happened. The two shared a spat after Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Jos Buttler in the 13th over of the 225-run chase.

Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler gets in banter

Words were exchanged between the India captain and the England wicketkeeper-batsman after the latter said something after his dismissal.

The 30-year-old was on his long way back to the pavilion when Kohli followed him. Buttler kept on walking towards the dugout before taking few steps back to confront the India star, who scored 80 not-out runs in the match.

Eoin Morgan’s view on the banter

But England skipper Eoin Morgan has downplayed the incident saying, that he was unaware of what happened between the two players.

“I don’t know actually (what exactly happened). Obviously, Virat is very animated when he plays, a big character in the game, that’s just who he is; he rides the emotions of the game. Sometimes in tight games, people can have conflicts, that’s not uncommon. I think that was the instance,” said Eoin Morgan.

Morgan further talked about Ben Stokes, who did not have the best of series with the bat and the ball.

“The role Ben has played for us in the middle order, when he has had opportunities to play, he has done a really exceptional job. It is actually a really difficult role to fulfil. It’s something he has taken on board and embraced. In the last game, he played really really well. We would have liked him to kick on, but it didn’t necessarily happen, but his contributions when given the opportunity have been really well,” said Eoin Morgan.

Buttler was (52 off 34) and Dawid Malan stitched a 130-run partnership off just 82 balls as the visitors for once looked like running away with the match. However, the fall of Buttler’s wicket opened a floodgate and England stuttered to a 36-run defeat against India and the hosts won the 5-match series 3-2 against the number one ranked team in the format.

India won the Road Safety World Series 2021

After two weeks of the most gripping and enthralling action, the Road Safety World Series came down to a battle between the two most dominant sides of the tournament: India and Sri Lanka, where the India Legends won by 14 runs to claim the inaugural title to their name.

All-rounder Yusuf Pathan smashed an unbeaten 62 and picked 2/26 with the ball. Yuvraj Singh too slammed his half-century to see India Legends put up a challenging total of 181/4 in 20 overs.

India legends vs Sri Lanka Legends

India Legends, who were invited to bat first by the Sri Lanka Legends in the Road Safety World Series final, found themselves in a precarious position as they were languishing at 78/3 after 10.3 overs.

That’s when Yuvraj Singh showed his class and bludgeoned the Sri Lankan bowlers all over the park to bail India out of trouble. The former cricketer was dismissed in the 19th over but he had ensured that the hosts were in a commanding position at the time of his dismissal.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Legends who were set a massive target of 182, got off to a blistering start as they raced away to 58/0 after six overs. India Legends needed to break the dangerous-looking partnership and it was Yusuf Pathan who got India the crucial breakthrough by getting rid of Sri Lanka Legends skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan for 21(18).

The visitors could not recover after Dilshan’s wicket as they lost three more wickets in the next five overs and were left reeling at 92/4 after 13 overs.

Kaushalya Weeraratne and Chinthaka Jayasinghe formed a decent partnership of 64 runs and kept hopes alive in the Sri Lanka dugout, however, once their partnership was broken, the win for India was a mere formality.

Sri Lanka Legends could manage to score 167/7, thus falling short by 14 runs as India went on to win the maiden edition of the Road Safety World Series.

England’s Jofra Archer will miss the ODI series and the start of IPL 2021, due to an elbow injury.

Jofra Archer misses ODI series and IPL 2021

The pacer will return to the United Kingdom for the rehabilitation of his injury, which worsened during the T20I series. Virat Kohli led India won the T20I series, 3-2 in Ahmedabad.

According to an ECB press release, the England medical team will “assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.”

“Jofra’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the T20I series and made it increasingly difficult for him to maintain performance levels,” an ECB statement said. “He has been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March.

“The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.”

England have named a 14-man squad for the ODI series, featuring nine of the squad that won the World Cup in 2019. Joe Root and Chris Woakes both flew home after the Test series and have not returned to India.

    Joe Root

Chris Silverwood, England’s head coach, said: “Joe’s not with us – he’s obviously a fine one-day player as we all know but it was a good opportunity to give him a break having been in the bubble for so long through the Test series.

“Woakesy isn’t here because he’s having a break. He’s spending some time with his family. He’s an outstanding contributor in ODI cricket and we know that. It’s just with the schedule as it is, we have to find holes for people somewhere.”

Matt Parkinson, the 24-year-old legspinner who won two caps in South Africa in February 2020, may be given an opportunity as the only player to have been with the England camp throughout their winter schedule in Sri Lanka and India, while his Lancashire team-mate Liam Livingstone is in line to make his ODI debut.

“I’ve got nothing but praise for Matt, the way that he’s conducted himself, the way that’s he’s trained, and the way that he’s got stuck in helping the lads as well,” Silverwood said. “He’s been an absolute delight to have on tour. He’s been fantastic while he’s been here.”

Losing the second T20 International from a strong position was a bitter pillow to swallow, said India women captain Smriti Mandhana, who blamed poor fielding for her side’s six-wicket defeat against South Africa on Sunday.

Smriti Mandhana on losing Against South Africa

After losing the opening T20I by eight wickets, India was in for a chance to level the three-match T20I series as SA Women needed 19 runs from last 12 balls while chasing 159 to win.

But Harleen Deol‘s conceded two fours in the penultimate over and Arundhati Reddy bowled a no ball when South Africa needed six from final two balls as the visitor romped home in the last ball.

“It’s a bitter pillow to swallow. I thought 80 percent of it was our game but lost it in the end,” a disappointed Mandhana said at the post-match presentation.

“We have a lot to learn and the way we fielded, we didn’t deserve to win the game. We have to work on our fielding standards.”

She, however, praised her batters for putting up a 150-plus score.

“The way our batters batted was amazing to watch and to get us to a 150-plus total. A lot of positives but lot to learn as well. We have to pull our socks and we are practising hard,” said Mandhana, who scored 7 in India’s innings.

SA women captain Sune Luus said her side played fearless cricket.

“We backed ourselves, playing fearless cricket which is what you want. It’s so good for our future. We know these players coming in, we back them, they back themselves and get the results.

“Lot of work being done back home to get to where we are. It’s a chance for us to make it 3-0. Need a level of professionalism to give it our all.”

Player of the match for her 53 not out from 39 balls, Laura Wolvaardt said, “I didn’t start my innings as quickly as I would’ve liked.

“But knew with this fast outfield we had a chance. It’s not about the individual shots, but it’s knowing when to play them.”

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s ODI squad for three-match series against England starting from March 23.

India squad for England ODI series

India and England are scheduled to play 3 match ODI series. The series begins on 23rd March with BCCI deciding to hold all the ODIs in Pune.

Team India, led by Virat Kohli, will have Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, and Krunal Pandya in the side. All the three ODIs will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

In a bid to improve their show in the ODIs, the selection committee headed by former India pacer Chetan Sharma has included Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna and Krunal Pandya as surprising inclusions. In the last two ODI series, India lost both. In Pune, India have played four ODIs out of which they won two.

Krishna and Krunal have been rewarded for their good performances in the recently held Vijay Hazare Trophy while Suryakumar’s selection was not a surprise given his stupendous T20 debut in the fourth T20 against England.

Earlier India beats England in a 4 match Test series and qualified to play the World Test Championship against New Zealand. These two teams lock their horns in a 5 match T20I series where the decider is scheduled to play on March 20, 2021, at Narendra Modi Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav enjoys his own performance

A day after his breathtaking 57 off 31 balls, a video surfaced on social space where the cricketer can be seen rejoicing his own shots as he watches the video on a mobile phone. It is his smile that catches our attention.

He was picked in the side for the second game, but he did not get to bat as India skipper Virat Kohli took the hosts over the line. But when he got his turn in the fourth game, he seemed to be ready for the challenge as he opened his account with a six of the first ball to announce his arrival at the big stage.

He looked in complete control of proceedings as he played his trademark shots and put the opposition under pressure. His whirlwind knock comprised six fours and three sixes.

India would be hoping he continues his good run in the fifth and final T20I – which is a must-win for both sides with the series locked at 2-2.

The hosts would start outright favorites having won both ways. It is likely that India could make a change to the side and get in-form Ishan Kishan in place of the more experienced KL Rahul – who has been woefully out-of-form.

Both the team lock their horns to play the decider of the T20I series on March 20, 2021. Post the T20I series England is scheduled to play 3 match ODI series against India. Earlier Team India registered their name in the finals of the World Test Championship by winning the test series against England.

India beat England by 3-1 and qualified to play the finals of WTC against New Zealand.

Delhi Capitals(DC) have declared that Shreyas Iyer will remain the skipper of the side, even after the arrival of Steve Smith to the team.

DC Names Shreyas Iyer as their Skipper

Shreyas Iyer captains DC in IPL 2020 and drags the team to the finals for the first time in IPL history. Steve Smith after releasing from RR has been brought by DC for Rs. 2.20 crores in IPL 2021 auction.

“We backed Shreyas when we promoted him to be the captain. Under him, the team came third in 2019 and reached the final in 2020. He is growing as a leader. I am sure the team will continue to do well under his leadership,” Capitals CEO Col. Vinod Bisht told TOI on Friday.

    Steve Smith

“Any of the seniors who come in, be it Rahane, Ashwin or Steve Smith, they have a lot of knowledge to impart to the young camp. We expect all the seniors will continue to do so including Steve Smith,” Bisht said as Capitals launched their new jersey.

“We had a young team which has been groomed for the last 3-4 years. Now they have flowered. If the youngsters continue to do well, we will look to have them with the two new teams coming in next year,” Bisht added.

Delhi Capitals launches New Jersey Ahead of IPL 2021

Meanwhile, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals have launched their new jersey for the upcoming edition of the IPL which begins on April 9.

The franchise made sure their top fans were in attendance as the CEO launched the jersey. Some of them also had the opportunity to to speak one-on-one with two of the iconic players: Shikhar Dhawan & Shreyas Iyer.

“Delhi’s fans have stood by the team through ups and downs, so it is imperative for us to make them feel special,” said Chairman and co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi, on the occasion.

“To take the fan experience to a different level, we also organised a photo shoot for the select fans in the new jersey, just like we do for the players. We are glad to have given them a memorable experience. It’s also a very proud moment for all of us at GMR to see the group’s logo on the arm. We cannot wait for the league to kick-off, I wish the team all the very best.”

The new jersey looks trendy, which is in sync with our team – a vibrant, young side ready to take on a challenge, and the tiger claws make a strong statement.” said Delhi Capitals Director & Interim CEO Vinod Bisht.

IND vs ENG: VVS Laxman Lauds Suryakumar Yadav as “Match-Winner”

    VVS Laxman
    VVS Laxman

Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman lauds Suryakumar Yadav for his impressive performance in the 4th T20I vs England.

Suryakumar Yadav made an impact in the 4th T20I match by scoring an impressive half-century. Moreover, his first ball six becomes a highlighted topic of the game which he strikes against Jofra Archer’s delivery.

Yadav went on to become the Player of the Match after a 31-ball 57 run knock that included 6 fours and 3 sixes.

    VVS Laxman praises Suryakumar Yadav

Former India batsman VVS Laxman said that he was astonished by the Suryakumar Yadav six off Jofra Archer and said that that batsman’s mindset is praiseworthy.

“Spectacular, he astonished both me and Jofra Archer. His mindset is praiseworthy. He even told Murali Kartik that he wanted to keep it simple. If you complicate things too much, you forget at times what your strengths are and what is your template of scoring runs,” Laxman told Star Sports Network.

Suryakumar Yadav played some creative shots, says Laxman

Laxman went on to say that Yadav has the strokes required to be a match-winner for India.

“The timing we saw today, the way he placed the ball and the manner in which he was coming behind the line of the ball while playing the pacers and playing creative shots according to the field.
